RC Energy did my new solar installation last year in the summer. They were an excellent team, and from the contracting process to scoping out the panels, to the actual installation and then post clean up, RC team did an excellent job. I have been very happy with my energy returns, and my neighbor just recently used RC also for their entire solar installation. Great company and team!

This is a great business. I sent an email requesting someone come and take a look at our leaky roof. I was contacted that same day and Dan came out to my house the next. He was extremely helpful and patient as we talked trough the possible problem and solutions. The repair was more involved than I was hoping (but suspected!), so Dan went out of his way to give me a solid plan my husband and I could do ourselves until we were ready to permanently address the problem. This involved several emails back and forth and in the end, I really feel like Dan went out of his way to help me with my problem. I would absolutely recommend this company. If you are considering solar for your home… you must have Justin come out to give you a quote. I have referred them to 5 other friends and family… ALL have had the same outstanding service!

In the summer of 2015 we wanted to do a re-​roof on our two-​story, 2400 ft. home, and then purchase solar. I had been talking to many companies and even attended the free seminar put out by SDGE (you should go to it.) I initially signed with Pacific Home Remodeling as they are approved by one of the PACE lenders, YGrene. However, I read reviews of Pacific and was not impressed. I used the 72 cancellation clause and cancelled my contract. They did try to win me back with a substantially lower bid, but I had already spoken to RC Energy Solutions and was impressed with the reviews I had read online. They were also approved by Ygrene although we eventually decided to use our Equity Line of Credit (I’ll write more about solar credit later.) Justin and I renegotiated some items before the 72 hours ran out (Originally I was supposed to pay for any plywood replacement on the roof, but I negotiated that into the bid.) Where Pacific had bid out a whole new roof, RC suggested saving my original tile (which was still in good shape) and doing a re-​roof using it with some new tiles being used where there wasn’t enough original tiles to complete the roof. It was substantially less, so we decided to do that. Included in my bid were 18 solar panels, re-​roof using my tiles, new insulation in my attic, and a new solar
came to the mid-​thirties. They did come back and ask for additional money for some wood replacement which they claim was not part of the contract. I was told I could keep most of the original, but it was in iffy shape and it would be best to change it out. I spent the extra $ 1,200 to do it. Throughout the process I was amazed at the workers. They showed up in the hottest weather of the year – consistently 98 degrees and probably much more on top of the roof. They worked non-​stop, cleaned up afterwards, and were very amiable. Doug, the person who will set up the solar account and show you how to monitor your solar output, was kind and professional. He was also the one who came down and fished things out of our pool that had been accidentally knocked off the roof and into it. The longest part of the process was waiting six weeks for them to begin because they had numerous projects before me and when they were ready it was when we were going on vacation. Otherwise, the re-​roof, insulation installation, and solar installation took about ten days altogether. I liked working with RC. So far, the system is working fine, the roof looks great.
PACE LENDING–
1. Make sure you know how much they charge in interest and how much the roof/​system will cost after fees, interest, and the contract price. I know YGrene charges somewhere around 8% interest, which makes the solar system substantially more expensive in the end.
2. Find out if you can pay the loan off early without penalty. YGrene allows you to pay off early, but you have to pay the WHOLE amount off early. That means you can’t just put a few hundred extra on each month to pay it off quicker.
3. Read up on the problems of trying to sell your home with a PACE loan. Because the loan is charged as a Mello Roos, the loan stays attached to the house when you sell it (that means the buyer has to continue to pay off the loan.) Because the PACE lender is charging it as a tax, they get first dibs on any money if someone forecloses or there is a short sale. LENDERS do not like to be second in line to receiving their money so many will not lend on a house that has a PACE loan. So re-​financing or selling can be more difficult for a homeowner.
Make sure you weigh the above against owning a solar system. In many cases, especially those with pools, electric cars, etc. it makes financial sense to install solar. But do the math before you jump in… we were able to take advantage of the Tax rebate which was recently extended several eyars. In addition, San Diego Gas and Electric is pushing to stop giving solar homes a $ 1/​$ 1 credit (in other words, for every Kilowatt hour you produce, they will deduct one Kilowatt hour from your bill.) However, our governor has helped block their first attempt to reduce the amount solar owners get for each KWH. I am sure we haven’t heard the last of this. So check with SDGE on how much you will receive for each KWH you produce.
I doubt you’ll get 100% return on your solar when you sell your house. not only because the panels will have less life, but because most people don’t know their worth, and, although they want solar, don’t want to pay what it’s worth when they buy it second-​hand.
I’ve had the system for two months and so far I’m very happy with RC’s work. Plus working with Justin, Doug, and their crew was great. They show up when they say they will and they treat their customers well.

It was a pleasure working with everyone at RC Energy Solutions. They exceeded my timeline expectations and answered all of my questions/​email/​call which seems like I’m the only customer they have. RC Energy Solutions installed our solar system about six months ago and we couldn’t be happier with the experience… from the initial contact and installation process through current system production! We contacted four different solar companies, two of the big ‘solar lease’ companies and two smaller local companies (including RC Energy). Very glad we chose to go with these guys, it proved to be a great decision.
Justin and the RC Energy guys were extremely friendly and easy to work with and we really have nothing but positive things to say about the entire process. They completely answered all of our questions during the initial discussions and they’ve been readily available for any questions that popped up after the install was complete. Very responsive and my calls or e-​mails are responded to within minutes or hours, definitely the same day.
I would highly recommend RC Energy Solutions if you’re thinking about going solar. The process and technical information can be a little overwhelming at times but Justin and his team really made it a lot easier and definitely worth the time and money spent.

We met with 5 or 6 other solar providers who came to our home, several overstayed their welcome and many of them, for some reason, were very intent on getting us to lease their solar systems. Justin came highly recommended, but we still wanted to evaluate as many other providers as possible. At the first meeting with Justin from RC, he respected our time and didn’t pressure us to buy versus sell, instead, he objectively provided the facts, gave us the pros and cons and let us make our own decision.
After thoroughly comparing all the costs and options, we decided that the smartest decision would be to proceed with RC and we’re so glad we did!
Throughout the installation, Justin and Dan were extremely easy to work with and really went the extra mile to make sure we were happy and continue to be responsive regarding follow up and questions we’ve had after the install.

RC Energy designed and installed our solar system and we could not be more happy, both with the process and the outcome. Prior to meeting with them, we had received multiple estimates from several larger companies for a leased system and also a owned system. We were feeling a bit overwhelmed before meeting with «one more company», which happened to be RC Energy. What a difference!
