DON’T GET RIPPED OFF BY GDI. They overcharged me by about $ 1,000. I could go on and on. Do your research. This is an UNLICENSED company in California headquartered in Dallas Texas. They’re operating illegally, paying the State of California a fine and keep ripping people off left and right. Hire a real garage door company like Garage Door Medics (A+ for those guys; integrity is everything). Also, BEWARE of GDI operating under other names: GDC, Seacoast… someone should shut these guys down. Down get ripped off like I did.

Charged me $ 39 for an Angie’s List «tune-​up special» performed no work other than to provide an estimate — $ 2600 for repair, $ 3000 for replacement with a cheaper door. Nothing faintly representing a «tune-​up» was performed, no refund was offered.
GDI made an appointment with me on a Tuesday for the morning between 8 and 11. I explained that I had to travel to an appointment Tuesday afternoon and suggested they make it for another day if there was any possibility they couldn’t be done by 11 Tuesday morning. I was assured there was no possibility of that happening. Naturally, on Tuesday I was called a few minutes before 11 and told the mechanic was running late.
More importantly, when the mechanic came the next day, while I was running an errand, he never touched the door. He took a look at it, pointed out to my wife all of the things that he said were wrong with the door, sat in his car for 10 minutes writing an estimate which he gave to my wife and left.
I had the door repaired by a local service the next day for well under $ 400. When I suggested replacing the springs, one of the items that GDI said needed to be done immediately, the mechanic who accomplished the repair (and who had no knowledge of GDI’s visit), said, «that’s not necessary yet, they’re in good shape». Like too many «specials» on Angie’s list, this was a way of being paid to attempt a bait and switch for much costlier service.
To add insult to injury, GDI called yesterday to follow up on the estimate and see if we were ready to move forward. When my wife told them that the repair was accomplished for slightly more than 10% of what she had been quoted, the caller hung up on her abruptly.
