Sunbeam Motel

Positiv bleibt zu sagen, das Personal in diesem Motel ist sehr nett und begrüßt seine Gäste sehr freundlich. Dafür einen Extra-​Stern. Die Zimmer sind aber leider in einem ziemlich desolaten Zustand und auch der muffige Geruch im Raum ist nicht sonderlich schön. Wir mussten zuerst einmal lüften, damit es ging. Für eine Nacht, etwa im Zuge einer Rundreise ist es zwar OK, allerdings nur, wenn es sehr günstig ist. Denn San Luis Obispo Ansicht ist wirklich ein schöner Ort für einen Zwischenstopp.

This motel was a great find! Nothing fancy, but cute, quaint and cozy :) The price is right. Customer service was spot on, and everything was very clean! We will for sure stay here again.

Okay, so you can’t expect too much from a motel that charges half what surrounding, chain motels charge. I’ve stayed three times and it’s a decent stay-​over with parking, small air conditioners (you need them here), decent bed and pillows and great access to the quaint downtown.
What’s wrong here is the upkeep. It’s clean but the in-​room «amenities» are questionable. My room has a completely plugged bathroom sink (nice!), a $ 10 coffee maker missing it’s top with a metal pot that clearly doesn’t belong to this machine and a microwave that has a broken handle (which doesn’t matter since the microwave door won’t close, rendering the machine useless).
I recommend this place for the budget conscious with low expectations. I think this is a case of not re-​investing into your business. Come on, isn’t a coffee maker pretty basic, and why would you advertise your microwave and then provide a broken one?
All that said, I would stay here again just for the location and discounted price.

I rented a room here Sept 10 — 13, 2015, for CALPOLY out-​of-​state move in weekend. I had looked at several places online and this one was reasonable and very close to the campus and many things. We were flying in from NH so we were already spending a bit on airfare and I was buying his bedding and dorm supplies in CA. I didn’t need a fancy place to stay since I knew I wouldn’t be there that much anyway. Just wanted it to be neat and safe. I’m the mom, my son was with me Thursday night and they provided a twin bed for him. Friday we moved him into his dorm and I was by myself at night until check out on Sunday. I felt safe and the wall air conditioner unit was loud enough that I didn’t hear any of the noise outside or through the walls. I was in room 10 and the bathroom was narrow but fine for me. Shower was hot and great. Bed was firm with two types of pillows — a regular and feather. Neat and clean. My room came with a coffee pot, microwave and a mini fridge too. They do change out your towels everyday but I noticed they didn’t always take the trash. The owner was helpful and nice and had good suggestions. He suggested the Firestone grill which we went to Thurs night. Parking is a little harder in SLO on Thurs night because of the Farmer’s Market. I had rented a car with a GPS so I was in and out of the motel everyday running errands and exploring SLO. I walked to a few places close by — Splash Café was great for breakfast. Frank’s Hot Dogs are right across the street and also had breakfast. Splash was much cleaner and more my type of food. We did eat at Franks for lunch Sunday. Pepe Delgados was a great Mexican place and just across the street and down a little from the Sunbeam. It is what it is. A small hotel with about 12 rooms.

Highly recommended for those just passing through. Spent some time in Avila Beach on our Hwy 1 road trip and decided to postpone the ride home after finding this motel on Trip Advisor. When I made the reservation I was surprised to hear it was under $ 100 for downtown SLO where the surrounding spots are much more expensive. Dismissing the good ol «If it sounds too good to be true» motto and trusting the Unilocal reviews we found it to be just what we needed. From Avila its about 15 minutes up the 101 fwy and to check out downtown shops, restaurants and breweries it’s a 20 minute walk. The manager was super nice and hospitable! If you’re just looking for a decent room in a prime location then this is it. We would stay again for sure!

Call to ask for a room in the afternoon. They said have a room don’t need to book. When the time I am here. They said no more because I supposed to give them a credit card number to hold a room. Why do not u tell me a first time.

This is a nice affordable little place to stay when visiting slo. The manager is really friendly and accomodating. The room was big and quiet aside from the road noise due to the location. Breakfast isn’t offered the the manager keeps coffee and buns in his office if guests want them. This was a very pleasant stay, I would come again.

Friendly staff, great prices, clean rooms with all the amenities! I love this place!

— The street noise was loud (to be fair, my room was the closest to the street)
— It feels a little worn down
Overall, you definitely are getting a score for the price. If I was looking for a budget friendly option, I can see myself staying at the Sunbeam again!

How is this place so affordable? I have no idea but loved the $ 53 after tax price. two people in large room on a Tue night in March. parking is tight but free. late check in possible if you call and arrange, otherwise the ofc closes at 10:30pm. we will def return!

I travel by myself, so I don’t need anything fancy. All I require is it be clean, in reasonably good repair, a convenient location, and good customer service. The Sunbeam meets all my expectations. The owners are very friendly and gracious and really try hard to ensure you’re satisfied. There is AC (Which is not always a guarantee at other motels in the area) and free WiFi! The Wifi was even good enough to watch some Netflix. There is a convenient refrigerator and microwave too! Nice modern little bathroom sink and cabinet. Bathroom is small, but what more do you need? There is a round table and an extra sitting area for your computer or other stuff. Bring an extension cord for your chargers because I couldn’t find many outlets. Within easy walking distance to downtown. Splash Café and a mirco-​brewery are just a few yards away. If you’re too tired to walk back from downtown, it’s just a $ 4 Über ride back.

My experience was the same as many of the other reviews. The Sunbeam’s prices are the lowest in town. Mention TripAdvisor and get a $ 49.99 room for $ 45. We stayed here twice this month. The first time we were in room 7 which was pretty small. The second time, I requested room 6 since it was on the end and it looked bigger. It was! So request room 6 if it’s available. This isn’t some fancy schmancy place, it’s a little funky and has character. Not everything is perfect, but that fits my style just fine. The guy at the front desk is super nice and friendly. Get a free danish in the morning in the office. I really appreciated having a fridge and a microwave. Kept leftovers and beverages cold without wasting ice. Coffee maker was nice too. Bed was kinda uncomfortable, and you could hear the traffic on busy Monterey Street but not a big deal. Wifi was free which was nice after staying at the Motel 6 in Grover/​Atascadero/​Pismo where the wifi charge was $ 2.99 PER DEVICE! I stayed at the Sunbeam because I was looking for a place to live. Now that we found an apartment, I’ll recommend the Sunbeam to friends and family who visit. Thank you!

Frankly, for sure the best deal in town at $ 49 dollars. The internet streams well enough to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race (Go Milk!!). Loved the accent wall! Bedspread had a nice pattern.

I was looking for a budget option very close to Cal Poly before a business meeting. Was so delighted to have come across this little motel situation! The manager was happily courteous and generously helpful. The room was perfectly sufficient for me, with queen size and twin size bed, small table and 2 chairs, desk and chair, tv, small fridge and micro, coffee maker, free wifi and smart compact bathroom space. Restaurant options in easy walking distance. I would stay here again and have recommended it already.

Nice cute place! Great for the money! Warm showers, TV, fridge and microwave to use. Bed is lumpy and pillows hard, but didnt affect my sleep over all.

Stayed here for a couple of nights when the temps climbed into triple digits (no AC in our house). Read other Unilocal reviews, liked what we saw, and drove 5 minutes down the road.
If you are looking for a VERY affordable, CLEAN, QUIET place to stay in SLO, with all the basic amenities, this is your spot. Seriously!
Pros:
Outstanding service. The owner and his wife were courteous, kind, and professional. On the phone and in person.
CLEAN! The room was immaculate. The sheets smelled like clean laundry. Not all Febreezed out, but they smelled faintly of bleach (FAINTLY) and they left me feeling like sleeping in the bed would be fine.
In-​room amenities: Fridge, with freezer that kept ice cream from turning to soup; Microwave, Coffee Maker, AC (which kept the room blissfully cold), phone with free local calls, table with two chairs (two laptops can fit on the table at the same time if you need to get some work done), Flatscreen tv (wall mounted, swivels) with remote and HBO, stall shower, plenty of lighting. Also, we had one of those sonic bug repellent things plugged in. I *really* appreciated that little extra.
Free Wifi! And its fast enough to watch a movie on Netflix!
Super convenient to get to CalPoly, downtown, and a number of bars/​restaurants along Monterey.
Cons:
These are super small ones, and might not be a big deal for you.
Only two smallish pillows. I could have asked for more, but I didn’t want to be a pain.
No self-​service ice machine. You have to get it at the front desk. They are happy to get it for you, no matter how many times per day you ask.
No Do-​Not-​Disturb signage for the door. This was a problem for us when the housekeeper knocked and didn’t hear us say «Just a minute.» A quick scramble to the door and some super loud yelling was all that kept three people from a really embarrassing situation. Tip: If you won’t want service the next afternoon, tell them the day before. Apparently, the housekeeper can’t be bothered with announcing «Housekeeping» before she uses her master key to unlock the door to your room…
Overall, this is a great place to stay. We’ll be back and we will definitely recommend it to friends and family who need a place to stay in town. I think it must have been remodeled since some of the older reviews. It didn’t feel dated or rundown at all.

I honestly do think this is as good as it gets in SLO — great walk-​in deals, super-​clean rooms, cable TV + AC + microwave + fridge + coffee pot w/​coffee + FREE WiFi, and walking distance to downtown SLO. Amazing! We love staying here so we can go out at night and not need to designate a driver. We’ve never heard any noise from side rooms, although you can occasionally hear traffic from the Villa Motel’s parking lot if someone is revving their motorcycle at 3 am (unfortunately the case for us one night).
The front-​desk service is very friendly, and they keep coffee and area maps there if you’re looking for something to do. For a motel, we definitely enjoy Sunbeam more than Motel 6. Wake up early, take a walk and grab breakfast at Splash Café, or an afternoon beer at Central Coast Brewing (both are 1 block away). Make the most of this great location!
If I’m not in a moving truck the next time I visit SLO, trust that I’ll be staying at the Sunbeam Motel. :-)

It was very clean and they were very nice. The only thing that was bad was that the bed was a bit uncomfortable. The shower and bathroom were very clean.

Had to go up to cal poly for an interview so I looked up hotels/​motels in the area. I decided to try for a small place, just for the experience. When I called to reserve a room the lady that picked up was nice and helpful. However she had poor english skills and had to turn the phone over to her (I can only assume) husband. He was very helpful and super nice over the phone. I told him I’d be there by 7 but the drive had takeb longer than expected. I called and the man picked up and told me to take my time and to drive safely and that he’d wait for me however long it took. I was very touched and that is whg I give them 4 stars rather than 3. He was also very sweet and accommodating in person. The room itself was actually quite nice. It was pretty modern but had a vintage feel. I got the non franchise non corporate small business experience I wanted. If I am ever in the area again I’d probably stay here again.

So this place really gets 3.5 stars. The older couple who own it are very nice and are trying to keep the place up & nice. It was a great cheap place to stay just very much older then surrounding hotels. We didn’t mind since it was very clean and well kept. It’s also very close to downtown and we walked to Splash Café for breakfast every morning.
They have microwaves, coffee makers & a fridge in each room. Nice hot (clean) showers, although the bathroom does not fit one person at a time, and the bed was slightly firmer then I would have liked.
Bottom line, decent hotel for cheap price.
