Med-​Stop Urgent Care Center is a walk-​in urgent care that does everything from acute trauma, to acute illness, to sports physicals. Our dedicated and friendly staff can help with Sprains, Falls, Cuts, Bites, Fractures, Fevers, Sore Throats, Flu, Bronchitis, Bladder Infections, Abscesses, Rashes, Headaches, Allergies, Backaches and much more. We also have x-​ray and lab services on site.

We accept most health insurance plans and all local HMOs. We offer a 20% discount for cash pay at the time of service for those without health insurance.

History

Established in 2000.

This was the first Urgent Care opened between Monterey and Ventura in 1986. After 30 years of working in local Emergency Departments, we proudly took over ownership in 2004.

Dr. Roberts was on the Board Certified in Emergency Medicine from 1987 to 2007. He has had ten years of urgent care experience and will make sure that each of his patients are taken care of.

My son went into med stop with a high fever, headache, and a cough that he had for 3 days. The physicicians assistant, Jackie Dancy, sent him home without a chest x-​Ray, or blood test and without an antibiotic. She gave him a prescription for cough medicine and told him to take Tylenol and Advil. Several days later he ended up in the hospital with pre sepsis pneumonia. When I called to complain about the diagnosis? The head Dr. Told me that my son was treated like every other patient. I have been a teacher for as long as the head doctor told me has been a doctor, which is a 3rd of a century. If I treated every child the same they would not learn! My son has good insurance, and they still neglected to do any tests! I would never go to this urgent care!!! Thankfully, My son is still alive due to the excellent doctors and nurses at Sierra vista hospital.

Was unable to get in to see primary care as a new patient in town. Med stop saw me and helped me find a doctor. They are awesome. A person answers the phone when you call. All the staff are super friendly and nice. You may have to wait but they are very up front abut the wait time and try to get you in as soon as they can. Awesome place!

I’ve been to Med+Stop three times in the last year and a half since I moved to SLO, and all three experiences have been very positive. In general, I’m in and out in about an hour — which I’m fine with since it would take that long if I had an appointment at a doctor’s office, plus it typically takes a week or more to get an appointment at the doctor anyway. I also like that they’re open later into the evening and on weekends. For minor things (eye infections and sore throats have brought me in), Med+Stop is perfect. I’ve seen MDs and PAs here and they’ve all been thorough, helpful, and compassionate.

Great experience with this urgent care. Reception staff was courteous and discreet, waiting room was bright and clean, if a little small, and the whole experience was positive and so, so efficient. Will definitely be coming here again (hopefully not too soon!).

I was forced to go here by my employer because they use Med Stop for all work injuries and Worker’s Compensation. I was seen by the main doctor (I can’t remember his name), who owns the place. I was being seen for a neck injury and he initially treated me like I was faking it. He began interrogating me and my wife (who went with me) about our happiness in our marriage, implying that my injury was psychosomatic due to a stressful marriage. This is despite my wife and I being very happily married and telling him so. I was forced by Worker’s Compensation to see this quack a few more times for my neck injury. He finally admitted that my neck was injured, but did not diagnose my injury correctly. Luckily, Worker’s Compensation finally sent me to another doctor, who immediately diagnosed my injury correctly and began an appropriate treatment plan. Do NOT go to this Med Stop! They have NO clue what they are doing. And don’t even get me started on the ridiculously long wait times.

I went to Med Stop years ago after being hit by a car on my bike. The work they did to stitch my face back up was amazing. To say they’re a million times better than the ER would be an understatement. They’re a billion times better! Avoid French hospital at all costs! Your life and life savings depend on it!

All was excellent except for the front desk person. She wasn’t horrible however not exactly the friendliest person. Also, im a bit turned off by seeing «professionals» with exposed arm tattoos, but thats just me. The wait was only 10 – 15 minutes, everything appeared to be clean and well maintained. The medical assistant who checked us in was very pleasant. We had seen a Physician’s Assistant vs. a Physician, however you could not tell the difference… He was extremely thorough, very pleasant and showed genuine concern. I would definitely use this facility again.

My first time here as I am still new enough to the area to not have a primary etc doc resources set up yet. I gave it a try to come in about 6pm when the center would close at 7pm. Reception area clean, lots of light. Gal checking me in was friendly, and efficient in her thoroughness. Yes, there’s some paperwork to complete if it’s your first time there, but it’s not onerous in my view. I only waited perhaps 10 minutes more before I was called in. A PA started the appt with a first layer of health overview questions; Dr Mroz then came in to complete and diagnose. I felt heard in my concerns and felt optimistic about anticipating better health. I did not at all feel rushed, or any inattentiveness on the part of any of the staff. It can be a little tricky to find the storefront. It’s next to Men’s Wearhouse.

Very happy with the care that we have received here twice. I am a health care professional and appreciate good customer service at the doctor’s office. My daughter had a bladder infection and we were able to get in quickly at 6:30 and the doctor and staff provided great care.

Update: 2 days later, I had gotten worse. I called Pre-​R, an amazing home Doctor program here in SLO. After an exam it was determined that it in fact have Strep That became a bacterial infection requiring antibiotics. Never ever ever again.

Super nice staff! Went here since I don’t have a regular gp. Wait time was pretty much on point, Dr was super nice and discussed multi options and narrowed down what would work best treatment wise for me. Would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone. Staff was efficient and really nice.

Excellent first-​time experience here! I’m only here for a few weeks and I’m not from the US, but staff were very helpful in getting my documents ready so that I can claim from my travel insurance back home.
Service was prompt, and the entire process only took at most 30 minutes. Keep it up!

I had a very pleasant visited at Med Stop. I would definitely allow a decent amount of time for your visits because it is first come first serve; you can not make an appointment. I visited Med Stop because I needed to take a TB test for a new job. The test cost me just 25 dollars and probably a little under one hour for the first visit (the injection) and 30 minutes for the second visit (the reading of the results). My first impression was being greeted and checked in with a woman named Nicole and she was very welcoming. Then the nurse that did the injection and a different nurse that did the reading was also very pleasant. I got all my paper work signed off by a very nice lady and left with a smile of my face. I would definitely recommend Med Stop to others in similar situations.

My son had an earache while down in SLO on vacation. We came here after reading the reviews on Unilocal and had fantastic service. Caring doctors and a short wait to be seen. I highly recommend this urgent care if you need to be seen and are not close to your regular doctor.

Because my doctor was full and couldn’t see me, they recommended I go to Med Stop or Urgent Care on Santa Rosa Street. Because of the positive Unilocal ratings, I went to Med Stop on a Tuesday after a holiday weekend and expected to wait a long time. I arrived 30 minutes after they opened and after filling out the 3 pages of paperwork, I was seen within 5 minutes. I had an earache, so the Physician’s Asst looked at my ears, confirmed it was red, and prescribed some antibiotics. The whole visit from enter to exit was about 25 minutes. The place was clean, professional, everyone had good bedside manner and most important of all, the prescribed meds worked. After the 2nd day, my ears stopped throbbing and I am getting better.
I am so glad to find a place that is open 7 days a week with extended hours since my doctor is only open from 8:00 — 3:00 with no weekend hours. I will definitely come back when my doctor is not available.

Seems good. Had to unfortunately visit. They were able to get me in pretty quick. The doc came pretty quick as well. They also take a bunch of insurance, even my Kaiser.
I was fine but the follow up visit with my doc at Kaiser didn’t really equate to what Med Stop told me. But I’m not quite sure I’m fully confident in my doctor. I guess that’s another review for a later date.
We also came here once before a couple years back when my daughter was sick & they helped her well.
It’s clean & friendly. The reception is nice as well.

Have been a big fan of this place and their staff for over 5 years and have referred friends and family here. NEVER AGAIN.
Just got an interrogation like I was a common criminal or dead beat by the new front desk manager. Left and went to to the other urgent care on Santa Rosa.
They just lost multiple repeat patients with premium medical insurance coverage.

I came in with a routine bladder infection and waited 2 hours to see a doctor on a Monday afternoon!
It was anything but urgent care.
My husband and son had to wait in the waiting room for me and people came in after me and left before me. It was ridiculous. I didn’t have some strange disease! Just a bladder infection! Just give me antibiotics and I’m out of there.
If you’re in pain and want fast care, run away from here.
