LOVE this place! My fiancé and I both got a cut for our engagement photos this weekend and we couldn’t be more happier! Had such a fun time in there. Also, the Devacurl cut will change your life if you have curly hair! My hair has NEVER looked better. I finally love my curls :) Kim is a miracle worker, she put me at easy because you can tell she truly cares about you and she had curly hair herself. I’ve already told all my curly-​haired friends they HAVE to go to her haha! Thank you Ahshe Salon!!!

I didn’t see Rudianne, who seems to be the superstar here and I am now recovering from a traumatic experience. I went in because I was unable to book an appointment with my usual hairstylist and had read raving reviews on Unilocal.The salon is clean, the people were extremely nice and the ambiance was good.
Unfortunately for me, my cut is a nightmare. I went in with long hair and came out with shoulder length hair that is completely uneven. I asked to keep the length and she told me she would take an inch off at most. When I was showed the backside of my hair, at the end of the cut, I went into shock and asked how much she had taken. She picked up a piece of hair off the ground and said about 3 inches. Nightmare! Who cuts inches off without your permission?! I felt like a child, and that my mother had decided to cut all my hair off without my permission. My hair has not been this short in over a decade and I do not like it short or uneven. I grabbed my stuff and tried to get out as quickly as possible because the tears were forming and the sadness setting in. At the receptionist desk, I said, «I am in shock, she was only going to cut an inch and it is very short.» Her reply was, «it looks good and healthy.» I couldn’t believe the lack of understanding or concern for my current state. I believe she was trying to be nice and make the situation better, but it did not address the fact that I should not pay for a service that I did not ask for. Nor did she address the violation I was feeling of having trusted the salon with my hair and was completely disregarded as the owner of my hair.
I am attaching photos because I think they explain a lot. I can go on and on about what was said, but I think the photos say it all. The photo of me at the lake on the bench shows how long my hair was before the cut and the other photos are directly after the cut. I am pulling on the sides of the hair in one photo to show how uneven the hair is. In another photo, my arm is marking the location of my old hair so you can see how much was taken off. I am completely horrified that this happened. We discussed what she would do and how much would be taken off. That discussion was not honored or executed.

I’ve been going to Rudianne for years — she’s hands down the most amazing hair guru in all of San Luis Obispo. I recently branched out by getting facial with Sunshine, and loved it! The Aveda products were super soothing on my sensitive skin, and she was careful to tailor the facial to my skin type and needs. The little massage studio tucked into Linnea’s Café and outdoor garden is so calming and peaceful — perfect for treating yourself to a quiet relaxing afternoon.

Rudianne Roberts is one of the shining stars at Ahshe. She listens carefully to what you want, and then gives you a precision haircut to your order. I have gone to her for years now, so I trust her opinion, which she will give you when asked. Recently, she showed me how to put my hair in a messy bun. I do it so much better now. She is friendly and funny but doesn’t talk your ear off. The hot towel in between the shampoo and the cream rinse is heavenly. They use Aveda product, and sell them as well but there is 0 pressure. When I like what she puts on my hair, I’ll ask about it.
I really can’t recommend this salon enough. It’s on my favorite street in SLO– Garden, right next to Linnea’s. I can usually find parking in the Marsh Street lot (walk through the alley to Garden) or on Marsh St. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. Their name is changing over to Salon 62 South with the same wonderful staff. Other friends are loyal to other hair dressers so I know everyone is stellar!

If you have curly hair, you know it can be a pain in the butt to find someone who knows what to do with your hair. I’ve had countless bad haircuts over the years by people who weren’t properly trained and didn’t understand the curl. Kim was amazing! Not only does she have curly hair, but she celebrates yours! I didn’t feel like I had to apologize for having hair that can be difficult to get right. Instead she took the time to dry cut my hair, curl by curl, and then teach me how to properly care for it. My hair looks amazing now! Kim put the bounce back in my step and was super nice and personable. Pay the money for a good deva curl cut. It’s worth it!

I just visited this salon for the first time, and am so happy with the haircut that Kim gave my curly hair! I’ve been dealing with frizz and half-​formed curls for most of my adult life, and I am so relieved to have found a stylist who not only has curly hair herself, but is specifically trained to cut and style curly hair. Kim spent a good deal of time giving me a dry haircut specific to my curl pattern, and trained me to use the DevaCurl products (which are great).
In addition to a great end result, I felt listened-​to and never was I pressured to change my naturally curly hair into something it’s not (which has been the case in many salons I’ve visited over the years). In fact, the opposite was true: my curls were celebrated! Thanks, Ashe, for a great haircut and experience. I’ll be back!

I came in for blonde highlights and a simple cut. Jen z added lowlights to give the blonde a great contrast and it looks amazing! She has great technique and I’m so glad I found a new hairdresser. I highly recommend Jen z.

I am writing this review on behalf of my wife.
She loved her dry haircut experience with Jen Z. She listened to what my wife wanted and cut her hair to the exact length she was expecting. My wife’s previous stylist moved out of SLO so she is greatly relieved to have met Jen.

I love this salon and have finally found a place I trust to color my long hair and keep it healthy and not fry it. They have been honest with me about gradual color change as to not damage my hair and it has paid off. Taken time, but been worth it. I love the products and that I am never pressured to ‘try something new’, or a cut my long hair, or layer it or all the other things I have experienced over the years! I can’t recommend this salon enough!

I love Aveda products. Today tried this salon as my hair was driving me crazy (been pulled into a ponytail the last two months!) and was very happy. Called and asked if they could squeeze me in on a whim and they told me to they had an opening. I met with Jen who just moved back to SLO two weeks ago, Told her I wanted a change but something super easy to manage and to keep the length somewhat, and she gave me a new haircut/​style that I’ve never had before that I am super stoked on! Really stoked on the salon, vibe, Jen and reasonable pricing at Ahshe. I will be back for sure!

I came with my girlfriend multiple times to Ahshe. She gets her hair done by Julie and previously by Danielle. Every time her hair comes out great, and she’s always beyond satisfied. Mens cuts are also awesome, and the girls here know how to do them. The best Aveda salon I have ever been too.

Julie cut my very very thick hair and it feels so wonderful!!! the layers lay just right. She listened to what i wanted and made it happen!

I started frequenting Ahshe for their esthetics services. Megan, the resident esthetician, is absolutely amazing. Nestled behind the Ahshe hair salon is a back patio jointly used by Linnaea’s Coffee, there you’ll find Megan’s studio which is welcoming and relaxing. Her personality is what really drew me in; she is charismatic, friendly, and knowledgeable and takes time to really explain what she feels would be best for you based on what you’re looking for and what your concerns are. She has an attention to detail I have had a hard time finding in most estheticians and genuinely cares that you look and feel beautiful. I have used her for brow, bikini, and underarm — painless, fast, and reasonably priced… You can not go wrong with her! My next service will definitely be a facial — can’t wait!

I got my hair done here by Julie. Wow is all i have to say. I was dark brown wanting to go to light and I’ve heard from many hair stylist how hard that is to do. «You can fry your hair» or «Your going to loose the length» ect. So not only did it turn out amazing but it I got to keep the length of my hair and it wasn’t damaged. She did such an amazing job and the salon is so cute not to mention. I would recommend this salon to all of my closest friends and family. If I could give more then 5 starts I would!

Rarely can you find that perfect stylist match; however, I did in Danielle. She has so much noteworthy greatness that I am beaming with truly the most gorgeous blonde highlights my hair has ever had… And believe me, it’s run the gamut through the years! My highlights are so perfect that strangers and friends alike stop to ask me where I could have possibly achieved these mere perfect highlights; this shimmery golden blonde color that is spaced and aligned like a quantum physicist applied them (but not sure I’d be so happy with those results!!) Danielle is nothing short of a hair genius. I cannot fathom as to the reason that she is not flooded with reviews on Unilocal but can only guess that her customers want her all to themselves. She is beyond talented, perceptive, and ingenious; her off the charts ability is in her blood. She will know exactly what you want with a short order request; bam– she is on it and let her just work her magic. She is — or now was– my best kept beauty secret. Now that I’ve let the cat out of the bag, I want to sing her high praises off the rooftops and think I’ll start with, «DANIELLE IS EPIC!!!» Go see her and you’ll have treated yourself more than you have in a very long time; maybe ever, like I have — Enjoy!

Julie has been doing my hair for years and I absolutely love her! Not only is she a pro, she’s super warm and friendly. She is the color guru… I’m always totally happy when I leave, she exceeds my expectations every time. Emily is the esthetician I’ve seen, she is also great! Super friendly and professional, great for facials or waxing!

I cannot say enough good things about Ahshe and the ladies who work there. I went in with some crazy emergency hair tangles (like the kind where you have to chop all your hair off). I’ve got really long hair so I was very nervous that they weren’t going to be able to get the tangles out. However, the main girl working with me, Amy, was a complete saint. She and ALL of the stylists in the salon at the time spent over three hours on my hair and ended up completely saving it. Most hair salons would have given up and just cut my hair off, but the stylists at Ahshe were completely sympathetic and patient and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted. Hands down the best salon experience I’ve ever had and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Ahshe Salon is the best in SLO. The vibe at the salon is comforting and I know I am walking out looking better than I walked in.
Maggie Hoffman is an amazing stylist and I highly recommend her services!

I have tried so many hair salons in my 5 years in SLO (if we’re going to laundry list it would be Bladerunner, Salon LUX, Faces a la Mode, and Shift). Something about each one of them turned me off at one point or another, and I ended up at Ahshe because I love Aveda coloring. I get blonde highlights done every 6 – 8 weeks. I used to color with Jenn, who is wonderful, but she sometimes books up before I have time to make an appointment. So, one weekend I needed to get my hair done on a weekend Jenn was out of town and she recommended Maggie. I was so hesitant to switch after all of my previous experiences, but I trusted Jenn’s recommendation. Maggie is fantastic! She is newer, but she has a lot of talent and skill. She is the ONLY one who actually gets my blonde just right and now I always book with her since Jenn is so busy (still love Jenn though). Great staff, great atmosphere!
