Zhang Douglas, MD

My mom went to see Dr. Zhang after her awful experience with Dr. Christi Cheng nearby (don’t go see her) and was pleasantly surprised at how knowledgeable Dr. Zhang is. He was thorough and seems to have extensive knowledge on the concerns she had. It’s nice to be able to find a doctor who is friendly, on time and able to address our concerns. We will be back!

I like Dr. Zhang, he is very attentive and listens to my concerns. However, my last string of visits was made frustrating by the laboratory in the building next to them who lost my samples for nearly a week. After several phone calls and a lot of frustration on my part, they were able to locate them, with no help from the doctor’s office. I realized I had to be my own advocate in getting the lab to find my samples.
I want to add that there is a reason people get lab results done, they are not well and looking for answers. This is why I was eager to receive my results. One of the test results was sent to the doctor’s office and sat there for over a week. When the others came in, I decided I would rather just have copies and not wait another week or more before they decide to share the results with me. Each time I would call, I was told I would get a call back. This was a Friday, and like I mentioned, I did not want to wait through the weekend and perhaps another week for a return call. It’s clear to me now that my requests to receive my results did not make the staff happy because when I went to get my copies, I was not greeted, and instead the young receptionist behind the desk ignored me. I stood two feet in front of her while she typed on her computer, slowly grabbed a paper clip and carefully clipped some papers, filed those papers, sat down again. At this point I laughed and turned to the patient behind me who said to me «are you wondering if you are invisible?» I am glad she noticed how awkward this was becoming. Finally the young receptionist turned to the other lady at the desk and said «I haven’t helped her yet», in fact she hadn’t even acknowledged me. My fault was assuming that when a patient is trying to get answers, their concerns would be met with more consideration.
It’s unfortunate, because I did like my doctor and this office is close to me. But I think I will be searching for another practitioner whose staff has some sense of how to treat patients.

Dr. Zhang is an extraordinary doctor in Family Medicine. Very rarely do you get to meet a doctor with experience also in Internal Medicine, meaning that Dr. Zhang has extensive knowledge throughout the institution of medicine.
As someone who works in the biotechnology field, I would give the highest possible recommendation for Dr. Zhang and his excellent staff. His staff like Krystal and Cory are so detail oriented and are huge assets for patients. I enjoy my appointments with Dr. Zhang, and as long as I live in the Northern California region, I will continue to trust my health with Dr. Zhang.
Like any doctor’s office, wait times are expected. Be patient. Your health is worth waiting 10 minutes on occasion. Do not rush Dr. Zhang and his staff as you can trust that they are working diligently to ensure your utmost quality care. Many patients don’t know the huge amount of effort it takes behind the scenes to deliver quality healthcare. You’re in good hands at Family Medical under Dr. Zhang and his staff.

I have been going to Dr. Zhang for 3 years, he is a really good doctor that takes his time to listen to what your concerns are. He also is really good with getting you in last mint.

I recently moved to the bay area and was looking to switch to a new PCP up here. I found Dr. Zhang on Zoc Doc and was able to set up an appointment on my phone. On appointment day, I was greeted by friendly staff at the office. There was actually a problem with my insurance, but Dr. Zhang and his staff were able to fix it and I was able to see him that day.
Once I saw Dr. Zhang, he was very attentive to what I was there for and took the time to understand my medical needs and help me. I felt he was very comfortable and was intimidated by him, like other doctors. I needed some blood tests, and the lab is right door so that was another plus.
Overall, if you’re looking to go to a doctor thats understanding and caring with a friendly staff, I would definitely recommend Dr. Zhang! I saw some negative reviews, but if you notice the more recent reviews, they’re a lot more positive hence I wasn’t hesitant about choosing Dr. Zhang as my PCP.

I was surprised by some negative reviews of Dr. Zhang. He was recommended to me by a friend. I had my first visit with Dr. Zhang this morning and I was very happy with the time he spent with me as well as the detail he went in to help me diagonise my condition.
I would very much recommend Dr. Zhang. It was so convient to have a lab right in his office as well. I would have no hesitations recommending Dr. Zhang I believe hes shows to be an excellent Doctor.

I’m surprised this doctor/​clinic has any patients, if my experience is typical (and reading other reviews, it is). I recently moved to the area and needed to find a new primary care doctor. I called this office (which is convenient to my location), and made an initial appointment.
I went in, filled out the paperwork, went into one of the exam rooms and had my blood pressure taken by a very brusque nurse/​assistant. After waiting a while, the doctor came in and couldn’t seem to figure out why I was there if I didn’t have any health complaints, even after telling him I just moved and needed to find a new doctor. I recited my medical history and family history… and the doctor still couldn’t seem to put two and two together. Nor was he interested in getting a copy of my medical records from my doctor of 16 years. The entire time he was in the room with me, other than when he was entering the door, he stood with his back to me, so that I was talking to the back of his head.
After stumbling through that, I was sent through a short maze to find their «lab» area to have some blood drawn for routine tests. This added another half-​hour wait. Apparently, the people who check your blood pressure and temperature aren’t allowed to draw blood, you have to go elsewhere in the building and wait. I have never been to a doctor’s office where the nurses aren’t allowed to draw blood for routine testing before, but maybe it’s just a layer that was added to try to get people in and out quicker.
At least the lady drawing the blood was pleasant. I asked how long for results and was told it would only take a couple of days, so by the end of the week… and if I didn’t get a call that there would be no issues.
A week and a half later, I get a call from a woman from this office insisting I come in immediately to talk about my «xxx disease». [I do not have, nor have I ever had «xxx disease,» nor do I exhibit any of the physical symptoms associated with «xxx disease.”] I asked her what she was talking about and she referenced blood tests. This was odd, since the only tests that were to be done were cholesterol/​triglyceride tests and a complete blood count, but I let that slide. I asked if I could see a copy of the tests before I made an appointment, and she insisted I make an appointment, first. I refused, saying that I’m not going to go into the office without knowing what I’m supposed to be talking about. She got VERY snippy and said she’d mail the tests and would have the doctor call me when he got back from vacation.
Exactly how I was supposed to come in and see him and talk about test results if he was on vacation remains a mystery.
A few days later, a copy of the results were mailed, and included tests that I did not authorize or ask for. (This reeks of possible insurance fraud issues for unauthorized tests, but that’s an issue beyond what I’m writing about.) And, oddly, nothing in the test results raised my eyebrows or were not explained by the medical history that I previously given the doctor. Apparently he either didn’t listen or didn’t put down in notes what I was telling him.
Another few weeks passed, and I got another call from a different woman at this office. She, at least, was not rude, though she, also, refused to listen. She said they needed me to go somewhere or other for testing for «yyy disease» — a very different diagnosis (with different symptoms) from what the first person had called me about — and I said «no.» (Again, I do not now have, nor have I ever had «yyy disease,» nor do I have any of the physical symptoms associated with «yyy disease.»)
She paused and then continued in her spiel, until I said that I didn’t think she heard me, but I had said ‘no.’ She, seemed confused, but at least did not resort to being rude (like the previous woman who called me from this office). I re-​explained, saying that nothing in the tests was not explained by the information I had already given. If the doctor wanted to tell me his concerns, I was available to take his call or letter or come in to see him sometime, but the results were easily explained by my medical history. She became somewhat incredulous,
Apparently, this doctor delegates diagnosis of diseases to other members on his staff (presumably not doctors, since neither of them identified themselves as such). The office staff are heavy-​handed and even a bit bullying in their dealings with patients. The doctor does not appear to listen to you while you’re in an exam room with him and doesn’t seem interested in interacting with his patients in any meaningful way. I would strongly recommend to anyone I meet to NOT go to this office or use this man as their doctor, based on my experience.
Heaven knows I’m not going to be going in to see him again. I’ll find someone else to be my doctor.

Just got the HMO experience. you get to wait a bit and the MD rushes through the exam. Like the first reviewer said, I asked him to give me a referral and he said he would but forgot. The man is overworked or has too much on his mind

I spent 5 minutes explaining my allergies and why this sinus infection felt different to which he responded «and do you have allergies?»
