Burton has had many successes since joining TriNet 3 years ago. He is known for driving product innovation, has more than doubled revenue, nearing $ 200M in 2010, and has invested heavily in the company’s technology platform. In 2009, despite difficult economic times, Burton raised $ 80M to acquire a larger, public competitor. Burton has 25+ years experience directing corporate strategy and operations for leading software companies Hyperion, IBM, Rational and Ketera. He was with Rational for 14 years, growing the company from $ 19M to $ 700M before being acquired by IBM. TriNet is so consistently SO BAD, that I’ve learned if I want to complete any HR related task correctly, I need to call TriNet to ask what they advise, and then be sure to do the exact opposite. It’s actually wide-​eyed, gaping-​mouthed, amazing how bad they are.

As a new employee for a company that is using Trinet and my company was new Trinet as well. I had questions on my benefit and the enrollment process. I was absolutely impressed on the level of service I received when I called customer support. I did not have to wait to get a live representative and the live rep was able to find my information immediately and answered my questions completely in just a few moments. This level of service was beyond my expectations

Spare yourself the anxiety. If you have a claim to make on their benefits, it will take them weeks even months to pick up their phone, let alone pay what they owe you. They will ask you to fill a gazillion different forms. Your employees won’t be happy as evident by the overall rating of this company.

A week later and they still havent paid out what is owed completely.
I received the funds on Monday, which was great… BUT they double charged for benefits and supplemental!!! So my check was late and shorted. But wait… the plot thickens! The stubs (3) are a disaster and they didnt add my recently accumulated PTO to my previous balance. AND of course, there is even more!
We notified them of the double charge of benefits so they sent another deposit… on Wednesday to the WRONG account and FOR THE WRONG amount!!! So i contact them AGAIN informing them that their calculations were wrong and the case should be reopened. They responded fairly quickly BUT (yeah there is always a BUT with them) the rep said it was taken care of and an adjustment was made for the credited amount on Wednesday, goodbye. Uh… yeah i get that part, but the wrong amount was sent! Why would i contact them if everything was right??? So needless to say, i contacted them again and responded with a breakdown of figures and calculations and requsted that they provide ME documentation for their calculations since ALL 3 checkstubs for the ONE check date that they provided are all incorrect. AND the original stub that was provided CLEARLY shows that they owed more to me than that magical incorrect figure they decided to pull out a magical magician’s hat and deposit into the wrong account. So of course, they responded pretty fast, BUT only now has a new case been opened and escalated so they can look into this further and let me know in 3 business days the result. LOL, and my NEXT payday is in 3 business days? Am i even going to get that on time with the correct amount? Probably not, since I’m still waiting on pay from my last check. Ill post an update when or if they find the error of their ways.
Moral of the story, if you are looking for a set it and forget it payroll company, use someone else. Unless you are sick and twisted or into your hardworking employees not getting paid correctly or on time, this is not the company to use.

TriNet was handling my wife’s employer’s account, and there was an email chain going back and forth about how they were logging her PTO during her hospitalization. The last email in the chain, which my wife was cc’ed on, was sent from TriNet to her HR department, and informed my wife that she was to be terminated. Yes, my wife lost her job, and was accidentally cc’ed on an email from TriNet to her employer regarding the termination, a week before her company officially let her go. This disclosure was completely inappropriate and negligent. Only an employer has the right to notify an employee of a termination, and TriNet disclosing this information in in violation on confidentiality laws, at the very least.

I would give a negative review if this was an option. The sales team is eager to over-​promise and under-​deliver. While working with TriNet for about a year, our scaling company of 90+ at the time of engagement, incurred fees upward of $ 80k in administration fees. If you have employees on various Visa’s or employee Expat’s– if your payroll account is not set-​up appropriately, your employees will face a slew of issues with tax compliance and filings with the IRS.
Transparency is not a value they uphold. There are many hidden fees and a lack of support for us as a client. We experienced a high turnover of our TriNet account reps, 4 new reps within 9 months. With the exchange of administration, some of the complexities of our business operations were not effectively communicated and it was timely and inconvenient for us. We thought we were offloading HR administration, but all we did was fall under the TriNet umbrella and personally I feel they are incapable of managing HR/​Payroll for any company over 20 employees.
When migrating from TriNet it was extremely difficult to obtain information necessary to engage with a new provider. It was a very painful process. COBRA administration is also very challenging and this also was another administrative burden we had to face while still paying TriNet for a service they were not supporting appropriately.
Steer clear! It was the worst decision we made as an organization. Buyer beware.

Watch out for plan year expiration — or Trinet gets to keep your contributions as profit.
Trinet operates on plan year (not calendar). This is in their documents but not something you are made aware of the impact of until it’s too late. When trying to get reimbursed for dependent care and FSA expenses — they deny them from 2014 — because it was in the prior plan year. And when you try to escalate or get a waiver the answer is «too bad, you should have read the fine print.»
I’m recommending to my employer that we stop using Trinet as our administrator.
I’m also submitting complaints with the state insurance board, my representatives and the IRS. Maybe that will help them improve their notifications.

My small business has been with Trinet for years. They just fired us and now we have to go get another PEO. Reason: We have an employee with a LT very sick kido and we were just to expensive to keep us on their insurance. Buyer beware. They will dump you when you need them the most.

My wife’s company uses Tri Net as their payroll/​benefits/​etc administrator.
They accidentally deposited 1500 $ into her paycheck last week; it was labeled as some type of bonus, but she was never supposed to receive that money. That is a scary payroll error to be making.
She has constantly complained that she can never log on to the website and constantly has to change her password. I chalked this up to user error. I tried to log in this morning with the credentials she provided and was successful. Thirty minutes later, using the same credentials, I was unable to log back in. I tested 2 different operating systems and 6 different browsers. My wife tried and also could not get in using the exact same credentials. This is complete amateur hour. Test your code.
Based on previous reviews and brief user experience, it’s scary that these people are handling your benefits, retirement and payroll.

In the 2 months since my company joined TriNet, they have failed to compensate me correctly 3 times, and they almost caused me to lose my benefits due to internal errors.
At the end of January, I did not receive Direct Deposit like I was supposed to. I was told that «no hours were approved» and my supervisor had to contact them. He was assured that the problem was fixed and I would be payed automatically. When I received my check (5 days later), it was only for 34 out of 66 hours that I was owed for the second half of January. My supervisor had to call them again, and several days later I finally received the rest of my wages.
A month later, I believed the problem was solved until I failed to receive Direct Deposit this morning. I received my correct wages via Direct Deposit two weeks prior, so I called TriNet. They claimed «no hours were approved» even though we were reassured that I would be paid automatically twice a month for 40 hours per week.
During the last two months, I have received some of the worst customer service in my life from TriNet Passport. No one has been able to fix this problem or give me any reason as to why this keeps happening. It is obvious that TriNet cuts corners and does not care about employees whatsoever. Overall, for TriNet to call itself an «HR» company is false advertising. They know absolutely nothing about Human Resources and their cloud-​based platform has some of the poorest UX design I have ever seen.

I had some, but relatively minimal, issues with TriNet as an employee of a company that used them for their services. My issue is post-​layoff. TriNet makes it incredibly difficult to navigate COBRA through their portal.
The sheer lack of resources, including being able to pay by credit card to ensure prompt service delivery, the lack of account information and information transmission to the insurer, and EVEN THE LACK OF AN ADDRESS TO SEND YOUR COBRA PAYMENT TO on their website (go ahead, try to find one! you will never get that 20 minutes back! Just pointed to a blog that says sorry you’ve lost your COBRA!) — no mention or splash page with information!!! — is horrible. Either their team is completely incompetent — it’s a total and utter lack of resources — or this is incredibly negligent by design.

TriNet is screwing us over at a rate of $ 440 a month. Yup. I left my job back in September and my husband’s employer uses TriNet. His medical insurance premium was $ 0 per month and when he added me to his plan, he got NO indication whatsover from TriNet that his premium would change. Given that TriNet also doesn’t issue any paper paystubs, he didn’t find out about the increase from $ 0 to $ 440 until recently when he happened to look at his paystub online. TriNet now refuses to make changes to his insurance plan due to IRS policies about changing plans during non open enrollment period. Now, we are stuck with paying an extra $ 440/​month premium or $ 5300/​year out-​of-​pocket expenses. The worst part? I rarely ever use medical facilities or go see a doctor.

I have been working with TriNet for over 2 years. My company is a startup with over 30 employees in various states. I am the primary liaison for my company with TriNet. I notice most of the negative reviews here on Unilocal are from employees and not the company HR liaison. My guess is that the reviewers on here who have had poor onboarding or benefits experiences were not set up properly by their own company /​were not provided with accurate information from their employer, not TriNet.
We signed up with TriNet so our employees would have a variety of healthcare options, at much lower premiums, than our company could get without using a PEO. They also take care of a bunch of paperwork that I used to do myself, so of course that makes me happy — it saves me time. They also remind me of due dates and compliance for new laws.
Our employees have all had smooth onboarding experiences, and for the most part, TriNet’s customer service team has been extremely helpful. I recommend working with TriNet. If you as an employer are not happy with the service you’re receiving, it’s likely you can change TriNet reps assigned to your company — something worth looking into. Overall, TriNet is a huge company and has lots of resources, and supports thousands of small businesses.
I recommend taking advantage of their free HR training that they offer a few times per year. Check with your TriNet reps for details.

My company has been using trinet for a little over 6 months now. The thought of having to interact with customer service, or even the website makes me nauseous. I wasn’t able to select benefits the first time, and customer service reps had no idea what was going on. Nothing takes less than 30 minutes, none of the «automated» systems like password recovery ever works. Nothing on the slow and outdated site is easy to find. the menus are not at all intuitive, it’s just a mess.

Pricing updated for all those following. I just received my Affordable Health Care Quote for my small business for 2015 vs. Trinets rate for 2015. I compared virtually the identical kaiser plans benefits… and the result is…
TRINET MORE EXPENSIVE BY NEARLY 30% ANNUALLY FOR NEARLY IDENTICAL COVERAGE.
To be fair to cost for those employees in their 50s is competitive but a complete and total RIPOFF for all my younger employees.
Also what is also a ripoff is that if your employees have children TRinet charges the same price for the child as the parent. So one of my employee was paying $ 700 per month for their child and now that’s dropping to $ 100+ or so per month. The employee is very happy. Also ask about coverage for your spouse as they are not competitive there either.
SUMMARY FOR MY SMALL COMPANY… WITH THE SAVINGS ON HEALTH COVERAGE + eliminating my monthly service fee My company will save around $ 25,000 for 2015 alone that $ 250,000 for the next ten years in my pocket not the TriNet shareholders.
QUESTIONS I WISHED I ASKED BEFORE JOINING TRINET:
1. How are rate premiums calculated for my company exactly?
2. Is my company individually underwritten or is my rate based upon the whole group TRinet?
3. Can my rate be increase just for my company and not the TRinet group?
4. What are the costs for children and spouses?

This company has caused me nothing but a constant headache and an incredible amount of stress. Since being hired at my current place of work, I have had issue, after issue, after issue. If TriNet is involved, it’s a guaranteed problem.
In the short two weeks I’ve worked here, the following has happened.
I tried to select my benefits, but was unable to do so. After calling support, I was told I had to wait a week before I would be able to select among subpar benefits.
I was told by TriNet support that today I’d be able to access my Commuter Benefits, but no. After calling TriNet’s support line I was informed it would be ANOTHER week to access that feature.
And the icing on the cake was that an employee (Griffin, G.) sent an email to the office manager at our office that said the following: «This is in the pipeline now. He will be paid Friday 8÷29÷2014 via direct deposit… all good.», referring to my first paycheck. I checked today, and the company mailed a check. I now have to wait at LEAST a week, to receive the check in the mail, and how ever long it takes for the check to clear as well. I also don’t have enough cash to make through the end of the week.
TriNet is the mother of all middlemen. They work with god knows how many other companies to provide what little benefits and services they offer. Their system is obviously subpar, and somehow is also (I was told this by their support) 24 hours behind what their current information.
If you want to suffer, your employees to suffer, and cause an enormous amount of stress on everyone involved, this company is for you.
Personally, I recommend having your own HR department. There’s a reason companies have had their own HR departments for years and years. Quality. You won’t find any quality with TriNet.

Our company has worked with TriNet for over two years now and I’m thrilled with the excellent customer service we’ve received. Our reps have been super helpful, especially in cases where we’ve needed HR legal advice or last-​minute help processing a paycheck. Our company has over 60 employees in multiple states and TriNet has taken the stress and hassle out of the registration process in every case. I highly recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking for a comprehensive PEO!

I can’t relay how disappointed I am at TriNet’s apparent lack of flexibility and understanding. They declined our appeal to cover my wife for health insurance. Further compunding the problem, we have now missed the deadline to consider COBRA as a viable option because TriNet’s review took so long.
So, my wife missed out on her employer’s plan because ObamaCare jacked up the premiums during open enrollment, so we decide to add her on to my plan (with TriNet), but their deadline is only 30 days (very short) and they declined to add her to my plan since we were only a couple weeks past. Now, we’ve missed our 3rd option, COBRA (60 days), because TriNet didn’t respond in time for us to meet the COBRA deadline of yesterday.
Now she has no health insurance.
If your company is considering joining TriNet, urge them to reconsider or do extensive vetting or just consider a competitor.
