Business Owner

Dr. Tan received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1992 from San Francisco State University. After taking some time off to work, Dr. Tan returned to further his educational goal and attended Boston University School of Dentistry where he obtained his D.M.D. (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) in 1999. After graduating, he practiced in Boston community center caring for the underserved and underprivileged community.

His strong family background and the love for the Bay Area eventually led to his return to California in late 2000 where he practiced as an Associate gaining knowledge and experience. He ventured onto his own practice in September 2002 at current location.

His emphasis on patient comfort as well as keeping up-​to-​date with the latest advancements in dentistry enable him to provide his patients with the best quality of care in the field

Dr Tan!!! The best!!! The girls in the office are super friendly and welcoming, they make you forget about the pain and fear of dentist. I am deadly afraid of dentist but Dr. Tan and team make this pleasurable experience. My entire family goes to Dr Tan. We drive all the way from ANtioch to San Leandro casu he is totally worth the trip. Definitely highly recommended dentist all around.
PS Waiting area is not to exciting but there is hardly any wait ever :-)

The best dentist! I’ve been going to see Dr. Tan for 7 – 8 years now and he’s never failed to help me with making my teeth better. He’s very caring to his patients and even sees them on Saturdays for dental emergency. My whole family has been going here and we will probably keep going here til he retires, heh. Definitely best service!

Dr. Tan, including his staff, are very friendly and accommodating. I had purchased a Groupon for an x-​ray, exam, and cleaning, and Dr. Tan did an amazingly thorough job. I recommend him to my friends. He has a wonderful bedside manner besides being very sharp. Look no further! Give him a chance and you will not regret it… Since my first visit, I’ve gotten another cleaning. Dr. Tan is the best. He takes his time as he does his own cleaning. He’s smart plus he knows how to build rapport w/​his patients. My friend says the same and will be obtaining services fr him as well. Very happy with this business

It’s hard to judge a person, especially doctor/​dentist one I just met. I do not like to go to doctor or dentist at all if I could. However, I have been going to Dr. Tan over a year now. I would say Dr. Tan is one of my best dentist. He’s very knowledgeable, patient, he know exactly what to do with his patient. It was funny, when I walked inside his office he knew that I already felt nervous. He started making a joke so that I did not pay attention or feeling like going to dentist. I really appreciated for that. His staff is friendly too.
The good thing that he opens on Saturday for appointment, so it’s perfect for me since I live in Fremont and work in San Jose. It’s hard for me to get there around the weekday. I would highly recommend to people.

Dr. Tan is a fantastic dentist.
He won’t talk your ear off or ask you tons of questions about your life, as many dentists tend to do. He does communicate well with you, though. He explains in layman’s terms the status of your dental health and doesn’t pressure you into getting a particular procedure done.
I’ve had a handful of dentists throughout my life and I definitely feel the most comfortable with Dr. Tan.

A very helpful family dentist. Friendly and caring atmosphere for patients who may be skittish of medical procedures. Cosmetic tooth repair work blends in and is virtually undetectable. Also provides temporary repairs that exceed the need for retail off the shelf remedies during financial downturns.

I’ve been a patient of this office since 1967 when Susan’s father was the owner. When he sold to Dr. Tan, my husband and I are both very happy. Dr. Tan is a «foodie» and a wonderful family man & a funny sense of humor. I adore the staff. I recommend them highly.

I recently changed dentists to start seeing Dr. Tan. I had been with our previous dentist office for more than 8 years, so I’m not someone who changes dentists easily or often. However, I am so glad I made this change.
I’ve been searching for a dentist that is professional, detailed, knowledgeable and thorough and I’ve found him!
Boy, if dentists were like this when I was kid I would have loved to go. Great atmosphere, friendly staff/​dentist and very modern. Both my 7 & 10 year olds love going here, and brushing their teeth because of that as well. Can’t imagine a better pediatric dentist.
I don’t usually give out 5-​stars. It is usually reserved for outstanding places, which is Dr. Sam Tan gets a 5-​stars rating from me. The staff made me feel right at home.

I’ve been visiting Dr. Tan dental office for 5 years, and I’m very happy with the service here. Dr. Tan and his staffs are very friendly and accommodating. Susan is sweet and gentle. She talks through my treatment to help me forget the pain. Thao is very good at reminding. She calls me one day ahead and 2 hours before my schedule. That way I won’t miss my appointment. Vanessa is very supportive. She helps out everything and make every step smoothly through out the treatment. Over all, they are great. They work as a team and make everything perfect. I guess I’ll stuck with them for life. Thank you guys!

I was in the Bay Area for a few months for work and needed to find an office that took my insurance. Scheduling an appointment was easy and I didn’t have any issues with my insurance. I’m really glad I went to Dr. Tan because he caught things that my usual dentist completely missed. Needless to say, I no longer see my dentist in LA.

Dr. Tan is a very knowledgeable, honest, gentle and caring dentist. His staffs are very frienly and helpful as well. Everytime I showed up to my appointment, they greeted and took me to the inner rooms right away. No Wait! He takes the time to explain what he’s examining, and he reviews the results with you in detail. He is always checking to see if you’re «ok» during procedures. He is not like other dentist try to «sell» me on things I don’t need, he just discusses my treatment options which i can affort. He makes you feel very comfortable and gives you time to ask questions.
Office is very nice and clean with modern equipments. It may not be as fancy as other offices around Bay Area, but who cares about the fancy look. I prefer the friendly and helpful staff and five star service of Dr. Tan’s office.
I am very happy with his services. If you are new to the area or are looking for a change, I highly recommend Dr. Tan!!!

I recently went to Dr. Tan’s office for a regular cleaning. I switched from Dr. Hai Pham to Dr. Tan because I felt I wasn’t getting much of a cleaning from Dr. Pham. Dr. Pham review will be another day since I have lots to say about them.
Dr. Tan’s office is located on a busy street but its easy to find street parking. I recently got my braces off and Dr. Tan was well aware of all my sensitive spots on my teeth, since I have very sensitive gums. He was very thorough with his cleaning. He takes his time on each teeth, as well as providing dental hygiene suggestion. Dr. Tan is very approachable and easy to talk to. He might look old but he has a very young personality… Or maybe he’s not old??? =P
But all in all, he’s very friendly and has great customer service. Btw, he only takes PPO insurance and CASH of course. So if you have one or the other then he’s the guy for you!
The décor of the office building is somewhat old. Felt like I was walking into an old hospital. But Dr. Tan’s office is kept up to date and very clean. He has digital xray, so that’s pretty new and awesome, so you could instantly see your xray.
If you want a good cleaning and a good dentist. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tan. Tell him I sent ya :)
