Specialties

Our training Academy specializes in beginner to advance technical strikes in the science of eight limbs.

Our trainers and instructors specialize in Japanese Kempo, Boxing, and Muay Thai.

History

Established in 2009.

Instructors at MAESH Striking Arts (pronounced MAY-​SHH) are former fighters of Cheetah Muay Thai. Each instructor has trained and prepared for many competitions by coordinating training times, sparring sessions, strength and conditioning drills, plyometric exercises, pre-​fight preparation and post-​fight support.

It was through training and preparation of competitions, a strong bond was formed. Each fighter brought specific skills. The core fighters were sufficient to train under the training regimen with minimal supervision.

Now the fighters bring the same team effort and guidance to the next generation of competitors and enthusiasts.

Instructors at MAESH Striking Arts teach the fundamentals of striking whether the student be a competitor or enthusiast. Students learn how to counter-​punch, 10 points of sparring, conditioning, mental strength, angled offensive strikes, and so on.

Students that are WILLING to learn the PROPER way of striking are welcome.

I’ve been in it for so long I realized I can’t explain half about how much not only the trainers, but the experienced students even when they were in Hesperian helped me out. This is by far the best gym out (in my opinion) in the east bay hands down and there is a whole list of positive things to say from the dedication the coaches bring to everyone that joins, to the tidiness of the equipment. This gym is a true hidden gem for those looking for the discipline to work out plus be around enjoyable company.

I’ve been a member at Maesh for almost two years now and I love everything that I learn here. Since I’ve been a member there I have dropped over 35lbs. The staff here is very knowledgeable in their various martial arts. They are very professional and friendly and are determined to help you reach your fitness goals and as well as helping you become better martial artist. The cross fit program is excellent here. I have never dropped so much weight while gaining strength in my lifts so that is a very plus. The atmosphere of the gym is very friendly and everyone here is willing to help each other. I have 3 other siblings who also attend classes here. The youngest two are 8 and 11 so this place an awesome place for the entire family to get in shape!

Best gym I’ve trained at. They have a system in place for teaching their craft, and it uniquely caters to each individual for the persons benefit. The trainers go the extra mile to help guide the students just to understand from different angles. Cause honestly I’ve trained with people who do not know why they are doing half the exercises they teach.
If you’re interested, just come talk to the owner and from there you will see exactly what I mean. You won’t regret it.

I had been looking to get back into martial arts for a long time after spending a few years away. I never really quite found the right fit until i came here. From the moment I first walked into this place it felt like home. The family comradery and amazingly hard-​working owners Ivan and Yoko make for a very special gym to train at.
I regularly attended the brazilian program put on by crispim bjj. The instructor daniel elias is second to none. His knowledge of the jiu jitsu game is amazing and he is very patient and thorough in his teaching in every technique and lesson… Which is great for everyone.
Overall this place is great and i would never go to anywhere else.

The owners are amazingly accommodating thus making your experience at this gym very pleasurable. I do not practice the Muay-​Thai, I am there for the Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu, but after being there for over 2 months I am very comfortable and ready to try it, now as far as the Bjj goes, it is extremely technical, and extremely well laid out, Daniel is a Crispim Blackbelt with well over 10 years of experience both as an MMA fighter and a Jiu-​Jitsu practitioner, he caters to everybody, from beginner to advanced, and of course children. Most recently the bjj program has sought out the competition field, Daniel has a well structured and a great approach to competition training. The female aspect of it has also been growing, it is not uncommon to see 4 – 6 females on the mats, for a bjj program with only 2 months in place this is amazing, females in bjj are like diamonds, they obviously feel comfortable training under the watchful supervision of Daniel. I have close to 4 years training in bjj, all I can say is I feel extremely privileged and honored to be a part of this family and community, I welcome you to stop by and try out a class, just the energy alone will keep you coming back…

I am not a fan of martial art, but i have to let people know Maesh is such a GREAT place to go whether you are there for working out or being trained as a fighter. I wasn’t planning to join this club at the first beginning because i already brought a 2yrs membership with 24hr fitness. However, after experiencing the first female-​only class, which was free, i decided to join this club. The atmosphere there is very friendly and instructors are very nice and welcoming. Instructors extremely care about their students. One instructor leads the class and 4 or 5 assistant instructors make sure students doing the right thing at the same time. It is pretty much like you are paying an inexpensive group class fee for a personal trainer! Isn’t that awesome?! I LOVE this gym and couldn’t ask a better place than Maesh!

I just moved to the San Leandro area and wanted to enroll my son in a Martial Art. I turned to Unilocal for some leads… My son being only 5 at the time, every school was quick to turn us down, including my current gym. When I got to Maesh, Ivan and Yoko were very welcoming, so I made it clear that my son was only 5 going on 6, they didn’t automatically turn me away. They said bring him in and if he could keep up then he could join. I brought him into a sat class. He did very well keeping up that he even impressed me. That Monday after talking to him I signed him up. On Tuesday I ate a $ 100.00 ETF at my current gym and signed up myself.

By this time we have been going to Maesh for about 6 months now and have been satisfied since the day we walked in. The staff is encouraging and very supportive, everyone I’ve met there is very welcoming, The class itself is very intense as they’re always updating their training methods. They also train the Juniors with the same intensity. It’s very technical and each technique is broken down step by step then applied. I couldn’t ask for a better environment for me and my son to grow physically and mentally.

Great school! This school is affiliated with a great coach and trainers. What I love about this place is the relationship between the students (young and old) and the coach/​trainers. They are like family. They put a lot of effort and time into training them as individuals and as a group. Helping one another and looking out for their best interest is one of their key factors that they have. This is definitely a place that will teach and motivate you, physically and mentally. And I am truly satisfied and thankful that my son is part of the MAESH team.

The gym is always clean, the instructors are encouraging, the members are enthusiastic, there’s plenty of parking, and a convenient location. Kinda awesome right? When I was shopping around to find the right place for me these are some of the things that I noticed:

The biggest difference, and perhaps the factor that weighs the most, are the classes. Whether you’re there for a workout or getting ready to fight, everyone trains together. The warm up, the bag work, the conditioning, all of it. You get to try everything, even sparring (if you want). Ultimately, this means that everyday is unlike the one before. It’s really challenging but it’s also really fun at the same time.

I’m not one to normally write reviews but I do have to let the world know how special of a place this is. Ivan and Yoko own the gym and the really dedicate themselves and make huge sacrifices to make sure that you get the full experience/​value/​growth.
I’ve known Ivan for about 5 years and I can vouch for his character. He truly cares about all his students.
The gym atmosphere is very «cheers» like. Everyone knows everyone. No ego’s No cliques. Lots of momentum as far synergy and team atmosphere goes.
I train here currently and i spend more waking hours here than I do at home.

This is my cousin’s gym, you might be thinkin .“oh it’s his cousin’s gym, he’ll give him a good rate”…geez! relax people hahaaa
I do give a lot of credit when credit is due whether your a family/​friend or stranger, especially when it comes to good business ethics.
My cousin and his wife travel live in hercules, his wife works in SF and he works in Concord i believe and to travel from their home to work to their gym in San Leandro shows a lot of heart, passion and dedication. They’re both humble people who give their all and their best to the students.
They recently moved in this location last year and already have a wonderful list of students (beginners, intermediate and experienced) who come here daily to train Muay Thai Kickboxing and boxing just for fun and/​or train to fight and improve themselves and their fighting techniques.
My cousin Ivan and his wife Yoko along with 3 other instructors all came from Cheetah Muay Thai in Oakland. They push their students to the max and treat everyone with the same respect whether you’re 10yrs old or 40yrs old. Their memberships prices are very resonable and they’re always willing and able to work something out if it doesn’t fit a students budget.
I wish i could train here but with so many students here, theres barely any room, maybe i should jus tear down the wall and extend it to the end of the so called Metro PCS building next door that has been vacant for months now. But i will train here as soon as work slows down, need
