First time here and thought i t was decent food… i ordered the bbq beef mini meal which comes with a scoop of rice, macaroni salad, with sliced beef on top of broccoli and cabbage. I guess when i hear BBQ beef i think of it with a smoke/grill flavor but it was more marinated meat cooked on a grill. I must say generous portion, filling and looks great, but to me wasn’t fan of the flavor. Staff was nice but i have to mention the girl at the register wearing disposable gloves. not trying to nit-pick but since I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for 15+ years i tend to be hypersensitive and notice things… not sure her purpose of wearing gloves… you’re handling the register, money, sweeping your bangs with the same hands and then packing the food passed from the kitchen into the bags… the whole point of gloves is to minimize cross contamination so a big«Hmmmmm» on my part… just saying. Or possibly, you just have a cut on your hand and being mindful…

Its like an Ono Hawaiian grill. That being said, it’s good, just a bit expensive. This should have two $$ symbols

A different take from Ono Hawaiian BBQ. A different vibe with many more options. From fried rice, to salmon, even noodles, and soups. They also offer up low calorie menu with brown rice options. would definitely go back.

Ordered the bbq chicken soup! It was really awesome and deff fresh! Husband ordered chicken katsu and he loved it! Will come Deff come back! Only thing I didn’t like is how they wouldn’t substitute veggies for extra rice, makes them seem cheap on the food. Other than that great food! Good prices!

I ordered the grilled salmon. No frills, as expected, but my oh my, the portion of fish was huge. Enough to share for a modest meal, but if you’re famished, it’s a hearty size. You won’t be disappointed. Staff keeps the service zipping along. Sometimes some groups just stay way past their sell by date, but I suppose they’re stuffed from the big portions. Tried the lumpia, too. Not bad, moist, not overcooked.

Okay, I haven’t been here in at least 5 years so when I walked in, I was surprised not to see the old Korean woman working anymore &the different interior. Lol, my fault. The girl at the registered had a boring look on her face like she was over it, which I understand &never really take to heart. She was pleasant throughout the transaction &made sure my order was correct. Short ribs plate &spam musubi. She was correct. I got it to go because I had a long day at work &all I wanted to do this past Friday night was lay in bed, eat &watch a movie. The food was prepared in a timely matter &I headed home. I opened up my plastic bag &got settled in front of the tv. My order was still correct when I first opened it, which I forgot to do in the restaurant but no big deal since everything was right. The Mac salad was way better than other places &you can taste the chicken bits like how my grandma used to make it. Thumbs up for that. Short ribs were a bit fatty but that’s where all the flavor is anyways, haha. I had steamed rice with it but realized I should’ve just gotten all veggies since I get tired of rice easily. Spam musubi was average, I feel like it either needs to be marinated longer or add more sauce onto it when frying. Still good flavor though. Food was still at a good temperature when I got home, service was fast &food was good. Pretty satisfying. I like it better than L&L.

Super good food and very nice staff. Try ordering the BBQ Mix. It’s their best dish. One order is for two persons already. It’s a good price for so many food.

The only thing I’m wondering about now is, ‘do they also make Poi?’(somewhere hidden in the back, maybe?) My family has roots in Hawaii and their family meals were quite authentic and ultimately delicious! Their mac salad was the best I’ve had in many years. I’ll be going back soon to try the lau lau’s!!! $ 62 take out, two family meals, fed 7 with plenty left over for brunch the next morning! Very satisfied! DB

We came here for a quick bite to eat while waiting for dinner with friends. It is located off 880 in San Leandro with easy access from the freeway. It is not a huge chain like Onos or L&L which gives a more authentic Hawaiian feel. We had the mini fish plate which had a scoop of mac and rice. I asked for a side of katsu and tartar sauce. There is nothing quite like Hawaiian comfort food. We also got an order of the malasada which are Hawaiian donuts. They were delicious! Pro tip: order malasada

Great food. Service is great. If it weren’t for this location being kind of out of my way, I’d go here more often.

Stopped by to grab a quick bite to eat with friends and the place wasn’t super busy, so Hawaiian Grill Express’s staff was able to assist my group pretty fast, which is always nice especially if you’re in a rush! I ordered the BBQ Beef Mini Meal and it was pretty good! If you’re not too hungry or have a smaller appetite than most, I would highly suggest that you avoid ordering the standard sized meals and opt for their mini meals! This is my go-to when I don’t want to get a bunch of food and I want to fulfill my cravings for Hawaiian food! Their portions for either the mini/standard sized meals is very generous! Honestly, if you’re going to opt for the standard meal you can probably share this or save the rest for another meal. Since it’s located in a section of the Greenhouse Marketplace where Chase, Safeway, Unleashed by Petco, Bobo Drinks, etc. is parking can be pretty chaotic in this section of the shopping center, but is definitely doable. It all depends on timing and luck, but if you’ve got a hankering for some Hawaiian food this isn’t a bad spot to grab some as it is affordable, convenient, and gets the job done! All in all, I can see myself coming back here as its one of the closer Hawaiian restaurants to me and they’re just so generous with their portions — it’s worth every penny!

The chicken katsu plate here is delicious! I’ve tried many other Hawaiian BBQ spots, but theirs taste more fresh, and they give a lot of veggies on the side. Their macaroni salad is also on point, because sometimes I feel like other places tastes very… plastic-ish? But not the case with this spot! Their smoothies are also really yummy; I’ve tried the avocado shake and I think the strawberry banana. Customer service has not disappointed me, and they are pretty quick with preparing the food.

Came by for some take out ramen. Service was great, food was good, and didn’t have to wait too long. Crowded shopping center parking. Not only is this Hawaiian Grill Express a lot like other Hawaiian BBQ places that have sprung up like weeds over the past few years, but the menu board posted above the cashier and the printed menu looks awful like other Hawaiian BBQ restaurants around. They have different names, but maybe there’s some kind of management company that helps these different restaurants get started?

Absolutely in love with the curry chicken, yuummm. The girls behind the counter are always nice and quick to clean up any messes they see and help you if you need. They are also quick at preparing your food; I usually call it in and have it ready when I arrive. The place isn’t much different than Ono or L&L but they do well.

Yesterday I picked up a low-carb meal — I picked the chicken and beef combo served with brown rice! It’s filling and healthy that doesn’t taste like cardboard boxes when eating the rice. I liked the rice because of its softness. I really never do enjoy eating brown rice but they cooked their brown pretty good here! It does come with a salad and oranges as well. Pretty simple and fresh with generous portions! I don’t mind coming back here for quick fulfilling Hawaiian meals. It’s may not be super«authentic» but it gets the job done to make your tummy smile.

This is a pretty standard Hawaiian place. I ordered the BBQ beef mini meal that comes with macaroni salad, rice, and some veggies. The food tasted average. The pieces of meat were cut too big though. It took me a long time to chew. For a mini meal, it was surprisingly pretty filling! I will come back because of convenience since I live pretty close to it. I will continue my quest to find better Hawaiian food though!
