California Conservatory Theatre

wonderfully intimate venue. saw SYLVIA today… it was FABULOUS! it’s a romantic comedy about a couple and their new dog. hilarious! it’ll be there until june 24^th. if you’ve ever had a pet you loved, you’ll adore this production.

I came here on Saturday to watch «Unvarnished Truths». The area is nice. I’ll have to explore the park next door to the police station. Parking is free and easy, which is nice, but we arrived later than I expected so had to rush.
The seats are ok. Auditorium accomodates about 60 ppl. Most of the audience is retired – 70+. We were the only 30s-​40s audience. I’m not sure was it the acting or the story, but it kept dragging. Two of the actors did exceptionally well. I may return for another show. I’d like to find a place where I can buy good season tickets.

I have been attending plays here for some time and have enjoyed all of them. The venue is small and cozy but it is old and smells musty inside. Sometimes it is hot and sometimes it is cold inside so be prepared for either. But the plays are always good. Last year I had season tickets and my two favorites were Evolution of a Relationship and Murder at the Howard Johnson. Last night I saw New Winkles and it was a hoot. Ladies you gotta see this one only if for one song in the second act. I won’t give it away but it has to do with flashes. This play is about aging and it is appropriate for men and women the house was packed and everyone was laughing. I was not sure if I was getting depressed or jazzed about aging while I was watching this performance but I know that I could surely relate! It is great to have this live theater venue in town. Support local thearter.

This is a cozy little theatre located just outside of downtown San Leandro. I saw Evolution of A Relationship. The play itself was actually composed of several mini plays. Overall, it was very good. The staff was very friendly, you have the option to buy a warm drink & take it with you into the theatre. They also offer little candy bags, to put your cough drops in! How nice is that? It was very cold inside the theatre, so make sure you bring a good jacket or sweater to keep you warm. I will probably go back to see another play sometime!

This is a rather romantic review (all the more appropriate since it is Valentine’s day tomorrow) about a little conservatory where I had caught one show years ago that featured my present sweetie. Apparently, I had flit-​floated away at the time. Interesting, how some things come full circle.
We caught «Come Back to the 5 and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean» on a clear and warm Sunday afternoon, the youngest pair sitting among a lot of retirees.
This drama/​comedy was quite moving in that (not going to give away anything other than the plot) a reunion takes place and during the exchange between the friends, a lot of repressed memories, suspicions, and confessions are let loose on the bed of an idyllic provincial town in country America.
I was much impressed with one of the actors: Eleanor Mason Reinholdt. The minute she stepped onto the stage, the energy level of the cast as well as the ambiance of the play emanated out onto the audience. She was playing the rather extroverted blonde who basically was in tune to reality (street smart and a little lipstick rough, as a comparison to West Side Story) but her attitude and charisma just jumped out and into the audience. Laughter, tears, anger were successfully delivered as well as her energetic momentum in moving the play toward that climax and finally, an affirming dénouement.
The theater is clean, efficient, and seats about 60 – 80 people comfortably. The lighting and special effects were dramatic and did not detract from the performance on stage.
I’d definitely be back for another play.
