Brewmaster

Recently stopped in and noticed everything was updated and expanded. Bryan was very helpful. Huge range of wine and beer supplies. We were impressed. Wholesale and Retail.
Great to have them so close.

I don’t especially get down to San Leandro a whole bunch. But on a recent occasion, while visiting Drake’s shortly before a brew day, I needed a couple ingredients that my more local home brew store didn’t have.
I did a Unilocal search & found Brewmaster, which has become another More Beer location. I called & they had what I needed. Since I was going to be nearby over at Drake’s anyway, it all pretty much worked out perfectly.
The staff was friendly & helpful. The store is very well-​stocked (for example: the 4oz. of whole cone Mosaic I picked up, also they carry both White Labs & Wyeast now). & bonus, the day I went, there was free pizza & homebrew under a pop-​up in the parking lot!
Yeah, it was pretty freakin’ awesome. While San Leandro isn’t in my usual loop of travels, it’s also not too far out of my way either. It’s great to have 1 more resource for home brew supplies available that I can get to when necessary.

We’ve been shopping here for about four years, but just recently they were bought out by MoreBeer. My experience is that this has been a change for the better. I am usually quite sad when a small local operation gets bought out by one of the bigger, more commercial guys, but so far, this has meant more offerings, a trillion beer «kits» which are super helpful for new brewers like myself, a much more organized store, and super helpful staff. They offer great advice and suggestions, and don’t treat you like you are an idiot wasting their time if you don’t already know exactly what you’re doing.

This is now a More Beer location, and I never was able to go there when it was Brewmaster.
The people that work there are top notch. Went in with a pretty open mind, I just wanted to make an IPA using some hops that I already had. Bryan took me through a recipe creation on the spot, and we had a great time putting everything together. Very knowledgable.
Same great selection as More Beer’s Concord location, but a little more «store» feel (as opposed to warehouse). Love the specialty grains in the bulk bins (like Whole Foods) and getting liquid malt in bags sure is an upgrade from the little containers of the past.

I’ve been coming here since I was a weeeeeeee brewer. My man and I slide through at least 3 – 4 times per month. They always have our back with rare ingredients. I’ve never been here when they didn’t have several types of whatever random ingredients that I needed. SHHHH they’re selling as much Amarillo and Cascade as you need even though there is a shortage. These dudes are cool and not too on your head unless you really need their help. They shoot the breeze and they’re usually brewing during business hours, although I did see one of the rooks using extract (hahaha I forgive him). Boxes of bottles at cool prices, I’ve tried other spots in the eastbay but nope :)

This is my homebrew hookup! I’ve been coming here for over a year for my beer and wine making supplies. The selection has always been great, but they recently renovated and are now carrying even more. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, approachable, and knowledgeable. I can’t say enough about that. It makes a huge difference for all but the most experienced homebrewers to have an experienced brewer to ask questions to before you buy. And they do wholesale so I’m always confident that I’m getting a great price. Keep it up!

Helpful staff, a solid selection of supplies, and incredibly convenient. I just upgraded my gear, and will definitely be coming back.

First time visiting store. Friendly staff. Had everything I was looking for. Defiantly my go to location for brewing supplies.

Have you ever made beer? It’s an intimidating process.
Sure, you may have a recipe to follow, but there is tons of stuff to consider (AAUs, type of barley, etc). It’s crazy stuff!
But the people at Brewmaster are great. They’ll walk you through everything between their homebrew jaunts out front. Super friendly folk, ones that are both knowledgeable and passionate.
It’ll be about five weeks before my oatmeal stout is done, but I’m sure it’ll be great, thanks to these guys.

The store is well stocked and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I homebrew extensively and the staff is able to field fairly complex questions and help with recipe design. Every now and again they don’t have some things I’m looking for (e.g., belgian-​bottle corks), but otherwise it’s a one-​stop shop. The prices are also competitive. I recommend this place.

Sold me a brand new Co2 tank a month or so ago on the notion that they do refills. Went this weekend and they don’t do refills anymore. I’m pissed. Staff isn’t terribly helpful either.

Guys are very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. This is definitely a five star joint. Go there for any of your brewing supplies, needs, and help.

Very good experience here. The cashier guy is knowledgable and very helpful. Great customer service. Now I’m going to experiment my first Apple Ciders. And maybe in the future, I’ll be making my own beer. Great place to have here.

I really like this place. Made my second visit here the other day. Was already impressed by their grain and yeast supply – but the customer service I received was outstanding!
Any question I had was, answered informatively and friendly. Was able to get everything I needed and prices are quite reasonable. Will return!

Nice, knowledgeable folks (Marcus is great) with good prices on most stuff (now readily displayed, which helps). A few things I’ve found:
1) Great for grain purchases (quite a bit cheaper than competitors for good quality)
2) Yeast is a little pricey ($ 7.50), and limited to Wyeast strains
3) Great hop selection (lots of diversity /​interesting varieties), though also a bit pricey…
I live in Alameda — which makes this place incredibly more convenient than hiking to MoreBeer or Oak Barrel… and I typically come away with a lower overall tab. I would recommend to anyone living nearby.

Came here to get some basic supplies and plastic doo-​dads. I’ve never been here and I got to shoot the breeze with one of the employees who was ultra helpful and answered all my questions. I’m making cider for the second time and he gave me all kinds of tips. I’d definitely come back here.

I have been coming here for the past year or so and I really like this store for its proximity to my home and the fact that the store is always well-​stocked and wonderfully organized. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgable. Prices are now listed on most everything so some of the previous complaints are moot. I find myself coming here more and more often rather than driving to the competition in Berkeley or Dublin.
My only complaint is that this place does not carry White Labs liquid yeast (but their selection of the Wyeast brand is amazing!).

Bought a case of bottles for my wine class. As I was leaving my, classmate called to inform me that someone else had already bought them. I wasn’t even out the door and the employee wouldn’t give me a refund. Instead I was given a $ 15.73 gift certificate. Very stupid return policy.
I WILL NOT RETURN.

Interesting place and a very helpful guy in glasses at the front desk who was the ultimate decision in helping me purchase my first and last item from this place. The front desk guy was seriously 5 star helpful and passionate about brewing from ingredients, to literature and history.
I’m not going to lie, I am now a dedicated Oak Barrel fan. Oak Barrel kits are nearly $ 10 cheaper and they have samples on tap. However, I do appreciate the additional caps that come with the kits and the recipes on hand from Brewmaster. Despite the easy numbering on the recipes, they are a bit out of order.
I can’t get over the poor business model of this place where they do not have price tags on ANYTHING. Their excuse is that they are mostly wholesale, but you ultimately find out the prices anyway when you make your purchase. It is also a huge waste of employee time as I have to ask him to run behind the counter to check the price on every little thing I want to purchase. They are neither saving money on price tags when an employee has to check every price nor are they protecting their business as the prices are eventually known. Making things less purchaser friendly is never a good idea.

I’ve been visiting this place for at least 10 times for the past two months. Yes I have to admit homebrewing is not a cheap hobby, but the friendly staffs at brewmaster make all my purchases worth every penny.
Staff Marcus, Daniel and Chris are all very approachable. They are there to help and answer all your ridiculous questions. I remember they were even willing to give me a long lesson on basic homebrewing at the day I bought my first brewing kit. They were honest enough to tell me what I really need to make the first few batches instead of selling me the most expensive kit. They also provided me numerous useful tips to make my homebrewing experience more pleasant.
Since I live near brewmaster, I visit the store at least once a week and I usually bring the staff a bottle of my freshly made homebrew. I guess the staff always enjoy tasting homebrew from customers and the staff always give honest reviews.
As conclusion, I believe this is a good example of how people should operate a small business. Honest and friendly staff that are super super patient and willing to explain things. They are so nice I feel the urge to write my first review– ever on them.
