Ortega Animal Care Center – OACC

We absolutely love it here and so does our puppy! We’ve been bringing our puppy here for the last 3 months for personal puppy playtime and vet services… and we just love everything about Ortega Animal Care Center! Our puppy is happy when she walks through their doors and sees the staff that we all like and appreciate so much… and she trots out happy too when we pick her up! We would be lost without them and feel so grateful they are around the corner from us and take such great care of our little furry daughter :)

DO NOT GO HERE. BOTH CATS SEVERELY DEHYDRATED AND LOST WEIGHT AFTER BOARDING.
We used to board our cats here when we went on vacation. Not any more. Will never come back.
On our last 12 days of boarding both cats lost weght, had hair falling out, and were weak and dehydrated.
One went from 9 pounds down to only 6.5 lbs! Scary. The other cat lost 1.5 pounds. BOTH WERE PATHETIC AND NOT NORMAL, and would not eat much after boarding. We left plenty of both wet and dry food, and treats for the stay so it shouldn’t have been a change of diet.
When we picked them up it was just before closing, and Ortega staff told us both cats were fine during the stay. It wasn’t until we got them home and out of the carriers that we realized how sick both cats were. Called the next morning but the people there claimed nothing was unusual during the stay in food intake or behavior. THIS MUST MEAN NO ONE NOTICED OR CARED. HOW IS IT OK FOR A 9 LB CAT TO LOSE ONE-​THIRD OF HIS WEIGHT?
We had to go through the expense of visiting other veterinarians the next few months to get blood tests, and medication to get the appetites back to normal. Apparently sick cats can be nauseous and eat less, and lose even more weight.
By the way, as a «second opinion» I highly rec the QUAIL HILL VET (on Sand Canyon) WHO WAS GREAT AND TOLD US HOW TO NURSE THE REALLY SKINNY ONE BACK TO EATING AGAIN AND PAYING CAREFUL ATTENTION TO REHYDRATION.
The other 14 lb cat recovered weight more quickly, but his personality is more wary now.
This was a horrible experience.

Our cat Rango enjoyed his day care stay. Every staff member lavished him with love and good care. His only problem was deciding which suite to choose. We are definitely happy with our new animal care and veterinary choice.

Been going here for close to 8 years for grooming and boarding. This morning I tried to make a grooming appointment and I was told that my dog needed her Rabies shot, which I totally acknowledged and was happy to do. I was then told that I would have to submit her to a complete medical exam in addition to the shot. I explained that my dog is 14 years old, has her own vet, and that I have made the decision to no longer submit her to needless medical care because she is a senior and on her last months. The receptionist told me that she would not make a grooming appointment for me because I refused to see the on site vet. I than told her to please have her manager or the vet call me so I could discuss this further with them, and I was assured someone would call me back and never heard from them. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I will say the groomers are incredible and are wonderful with my dog, this has nothing to do with the service I received from them but this low rating is in response to this new method of bringing in income. If I have been a loyal customer for years and this is how they treat me, I can only imagine how they treat new customers!

From grooming to boarding these guys got it wired… They treat your pet like people, maybe better… You know when you arrive at a hotel that greats you by name or welcome back… well that’s what your dog or cat will get here… Friendly staff and excellent grooming facility… Thanks!!!

We have been taking our dogs Capone and Banks to OACC for a little over 3 years for veterinary care, boarding, baths, pick up service and play group and I am so grateful for this place. Not only do I love the staff, but my dogs absolutely love going there. We are very attached to our dogs and when we have taken our dogs to other places in the past, they have been very hesitant and I basically have had to drag them in. With OACC they get overwhelmed with excitement and run right in. There has been a group of staff members that has been there since we first started going there and they truly treat our dogs as their own. When we leave town, when I had my baby and as we re remodeling our house they give me detailed updates and give our dogs extra love. I would recommend this business to all friends and family. Miranda, Sergio, Miche, Veronica, Colin and Dr. Brehmer… Thanks for all you have done for Capone and Banks all these years, our Family really appreciates it!

Great experience and staff. Quality care, constant communication and confidence. We loved our team especially Misha when we boarded our puppy for the first time!

Dr. Fluent and Dr. B are very knowledgeable in treatment of cats and dogs. The office has appointments same day, 7 days a week and has a bus to transport animals. Their boarding is incredible with rooms that are each unique and can be seen by the front waiting area personnel. The animals receive preventative care as well including Lycyne powder and more holistic remedies. Both doctors are very responsive to both emergency and non-​urgent phone calls. The front office staff is polite and professional. Vet tech Karen is the best and so helpful.

I recommend this place to anyone who wants quality service with an ease of mind knowing their pet is in good hands.

Knowledgeable, caring veterinarian. Dr. Fluent took time to answer all our questions and our puppy is healing quickly. Clean facilities and helpful, friendly staff.

We have had our dog groomed here many times. She comes out beautiful and happy. The grooming is also well-​priced and drop off and pick up is at the owner’s convenience. We also had to put an older dog down using this facility. While it will always be a horrible experience the tech and the dr. did it with care and great respect. I truly appreciated their consideration.

This establishment IS NOT FIT TO CARE FOR ANIMALS.
We have been taking our dog here for years to have him cared for while we would go out of town and we didn’t mind paying the extra money for the hotel because we knew he was in good hands but after the management changed, this establishment has quickly moved in a downward spiral.
After coming back from our last trip, we stopped by to pick up our dog to realize (for the first time in 8 years) he had picked up FLEAS. Not to mention our dog was also severely dehydrated. I had not seen him drink that many bowls of water right after another. He had been traumatized. And to think we paid premium for a suite so he would be more comfortable!
We approached management with our concerns and they stated there was nothing they would do since we had signed the liability release. It seems they do not care for the animals they are supposedly tending to.
They have lost a long-​time customer and it won’t be long until they will be out of business. If you care for your animal, think twice before dropping him/​her off here. I hope nobody has to experience what this lackluster of an establishment has put me and my family through.

Took my brand new puppy here for first visit… found out from fecal lab that she had coccidiosis which was told is common… but tech told me wrong… he said humans can catch it which I found out is not true.
Found out the FDA has linked deaths to the flea drug they gave her, Trifexis. Was very surprised to read it about it online.
Took her back for puppy vaccination and was told I couldn’t go back in the exam room with her per policy and they didn’t even weigh her. At puppy shot clinics they even weight them and cost a lot less. When I went to pay bill they weren’t giving me credit for puppy package I had already paid for which I had to catch or I would have been paying twice.
Not impressed at all… for these reasons I will be taking my puppy elsewhere.

I was boarding my dog for 2 weeks during Christmas 2014 and also 2 weeks ago. When I called in December, there was no space available. I was pretty stressed and disappointed at first, was told that they will give me a call back. Later in the day, I received a call back from the hotel representative. She was very helpful and were able to make arrangements and fit my dog in. When I picked my dog up, he was clean and very healthy. I’ll for sure be using Ortega Animal Care Center again.

Came here with a Groupon and was pleasantly surprised. Usually when I go in to a veterinarian’s office, I always feel under pressure to run this test or buy this or that. Not here, I felt no pressure at all, and everyone seemed to actually enjoy working with peoples pets. Dr, Bremmer was knowledgeable and caring towards our dog. Prescribed what we needed and it actually worked!
So glad we have found a permanent vet, thank you very much!

We started coming here in December once we found out that our Vet moved his practice here. The staff is knowledgeable, kind and helpful. Our female delivered her liter in December and I knew immediately that this was where we would bring the dogs for all of their needs. The last Vet that we experienced at a different location had no bed side manner and Dr. Brehmer is helpful, takes the time to answer your questions, and cares. With a new puppy we have been going to the office more frequently and have not had any bad experiences. Both Dr. Brehmer and Dr. Fluent are good people. Thank you

This place is amazing!!! My cat had a strange abscess explosion and they took such great care of her at a very reasonable price! The vet tech, office people and dr have got to be the best combo in OC. An experience you shouldn’t pass on.

Brought one of my fur kids in a few months ago. I am very impressed with the groomers at Fairy Tails Salon. They are always busy, got to make appointment a day before and plan ahead. Although my boy cat, Papar, wasn’t too excitied about his new lion look, he is now free of mats and fleas. And I think he looks adorable! Grooming pricing was reasonable, considered the fact that he had to be shaved down due to the mats and flea eggs. Just thought I would mention that he has never had fleas before until my roommate brought in the new kitten.
Groomer Olga bathed Papar, and Gualberto gave him a lion cut. I requested the gel nail caps to be put on to save my furnitures. It doesn’t seem to bother him at all! Not many places offer cat grooming, so I am glad that I came back here. The receptionist, Danielle, offered me a courtesy discounted exam along with a grooming appointment. It was a life saver because I can get the Comfortis flea pill for my cat on the same day, without having to drive Papar to another vet.
Dr. Fluent loves kitties. Or maybe my cat is just the cutest! She was easy to talk to, very gentle with Papar. She listened to my concerns about fleas, medications, and was aware of my spending budget. She even took pictures of my handsome boy and posted it on Facebook after the appointment. Making my Paper and I feel so special :) I feel like a valued client at Ortega. I look forward to bring my dog in for a bath next week.

I had such high hopes for this facility after reading all of the reviews online. I had a trip coming up and decided to board my german shepherd puppy Ezra here for 5 nights. He was only four months old but I decided to get him the largest room available. We brought all of his toys, his dogbed, his own bowls, everything. We also brought his own food– half wet half dry. I gave exact — and simple– instructions on how much to feed him per meal. I also made sure to buy exactly the amount of food to last him his stay so that when I picked him up there would be very little to none left. One other thing– I brought him in with a slightly swollen toe and gave the facility antibiotic ointment that I had to pay them to put on him twice a day.
We dropped him off in confidence, and I ignored the fact that there was a bow and chunks of hair in his room that I had to ask someone to remove considering my Ezra eats everything. I even facetimed him EVERY DAY from our hotel asking how he was and checking on the progress of his infected toe, only receiving back great feedback! In fact, we were told that the vet inspected his toe and that it was all better and that she didn’t even see anything anymore! Every staff member we talked to daily on facetime said his toe was pretty much healed!
So… My boyfriend and I come back to pick him up, he looked skinny and smelled horrible. Okay no big deal. Then they hand back MORE THAN HALF of his food!!! What? Are you kidding me? I asked if they fed him some of their food and they said no. They had no explanation. Whatever, we just wanted to get out of there and bathe our puppy. His dog bed was also covered in feces which was strange considering our Ezra was completely potty trained and he received extra walks. We were almost home when we noticed his ‘healed’ toe. Extremely swollen 2 – 3 times its regular size infected red, with a huge bubble of pus– the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life. He licked at it and it popped. Thats when I called them right away and asked why nobody told me about this. I had talked to their vet THAT morning about his toe and she told me it was practically gone! It just made no sense. I feel that I was lied to.
We drove 30 minutes back to have them look at it to which they kept apologizing and of course provided no explanation– only that it must have happened in the last few hours since I talked to the vet that morning. The vet even acknowledged that she had spoken with me that morning and that it wasn’t like that. Sorry it doesn’t work like that, its impossible. So they offer us free antibiotics and a free follow up exam– no thanks– and no discount on what we paid for our stay– 50 a night, paid for every application of his ointment twice a day, paid 5 $ for every facetime… I feel that I went above and beyond to check on my puppy’s toe and somehow its worsening condition was never once communicated to me.
I honestly would have spent twice what I did if they were honest about the status of his toe and if they fed my dog properly and kept the facility cleaner.
This place looks beautiful and has spacious rooms and seems to have a higher standard of care, but they don’t. They only had four dogs in their entire boarding facility and somehow still couldn’t catch that my dogs toe was getting worse and worse every day. There is absolutely NO REASON why my puppy was not fed even half of his food. The feces, the horrible smell, I can deal with all that– it comes with the territory. But my puppy’s health should NEVER be compromised.
Oh and to top it all off I received a letter in the mail a week ago thinking it was a handwritten apology. Hah, a generic ‘hope you liked your stay here and here are some free magnets’ was all I got. While they did apologize with a follow up phone call, the last thing I wanted was some advertisements in the mail.

I finally had the opportunity to bring in my girls to see Dr. Brehmer at his new location. OACC is a great looking, clean and open facility. I was actually really amazed at the pet lodging units and how much space there was. The staff were friendly and easy to talk to and checking in to the girls appointment was a breeze.
My girls remembered Dr. Brehmer and had a completely great disposition with him unlike their last experience with a new vet at Dr. Brehmer’s previous location. I’d like to say that from past and recent experiences Dr. Brehmer has excellent bedside manners, not a single problem or issue when he was handling the girls. Not a Unilocal,squeak or squeal. He takes the time to talk to you about all concerns, worries and thoughts. He’s never in a hurry to get you out the door.
JackJack at 5.5 yrs old even with her small slab fracture on her pre-​molar isn’t in need of a dental cleaning and we can hold off on putting her under. Sally however will be needing that cleaning and possibly 2 extractions. Dr. Brehmer himself went over the estimate with me and didn’t pass it off for someone else to do, I really respect and appreciate that fact.
I’m not the type of person to go with something because it’s cheap and I’m looking for a good deal. I shop around for something that feels right. Is the cost a little more than the other quote I got from the new vet, yes. But I would’ve had ZERO peace of mind going there. I love my girls and I want the best possible care for them with someone I trust. OCAA facilities are updated and modern, I trust Dr. Brehmer’s judgement and I feel confident in his choices. I don’t know the best options and I won’t be in the surgery room. So I’m leaving it at his discretion to make the final decision that will be best for Sally in the long run. It’s EXTREMELY hard for me to let go and not make the final decision but I have no doubts in Dr. Brehmer. In a few weeks Sally will have her dental and possible extractions!
