I purchased a used outboard from Boatworks in large part because they offered a 30 day warranty on the motor. Installation took a week longer than originally expected. It was summer season, so I was understanding. Upon first use, the motor did not work properly. I brought the boat back in for repair. I was reassured that the repairs were made and the motor ran correctly. Second trip out, and the motor still did not work. At this time, I was told by Rich (owner) that he would not stand behind the warranty, and I should take my motor elsewhere for repair. $ 1,000 later in additional repairs from another shop (water pump had to be serviced, and oil pump had to be replaced) and I now have a properly working motor. They told me that the water pump was serviced as a part of their preparation of the motor for sale, which turned out to be a lie. Do not risk your money or your boat here. Read the filtered reviews down below and google these guys. Take your money and boat somewhere else.

They sold me an 87 150hp outboard for $ 2300 installed in exchange for my 83 140 hp Merc. I told them I’ve never had a boat and didn’t know anything about boats, came from Las Vegas to have it installed. Long story short they didn’t install a lock key to keep the motor from coming down and damaging the lower end. They were nice enough to squeeze me in before heading out of town late Friday and install a new used lower end for $ 500 and this time with a lock. What they didn’t do however is suggest a transom saver. I have a flat bottom bass boat. Outboard hits the ground when you put it down. That’s what caused the $ 500 of damage. On way back to Vegas, came down again. Asked for my $ 500 back and would fix myself, send 2^nd damaged lower end back, they refused. Told me to sue them which is what I’ll have to do. However, I want my old motor back and my $ 2800 back because I don’t feel they’re worthy to make any money off of me given their lack of service. I’ve talked to a lot of people since and all say that a transom saver on a flat bottom boat traveling long distances on the highway is a must. Maybe they just don’t care about their customers, maybe they didn’t know what a transom saver is (doubt it) maybe they were too busy and assumed I’d put one on myself even though I told them I didn’t know anything about boats. Other problem is that the new motor was too big to tilt all the way up. Old motor had a lock key that prevented it from coming down, but no tilt and trim. This one had tilt and trim, so maybe they figured that was enough to keep it from coming down. Either way, I am disgusted at the amount of money and time I wasted ending up empty handed and being told by the business to kick rocks, you’re burnt. That’s not really the worst of it. After I told them I was going to take legal action to get made whole, get what that SOB Rich did? He sent me an e-​mail stating that he told me he suggested I buy a transom saver! Gee, that would have been nice, Rich! I would have saved myself two lower ends! I can understand the CYA email lie as a knee jerk reaction towards the lawsuit threat, and maybe he’s having some financial hard times and can’t afford to refund $ 500 of the $ 2800 and motor he received from me in order to make me a satisfied customer and prevent me from bad mouthing his business on the Internet, but if you add it all up it doesn’t bode well for doing business with this company in my opinion. They seem like nice folks and I liked their workers, and their prices are fair. Some free advise to these folks: «A person who makes a mistake and doesn’t correct it is making another mistake». Amen.

This company really showed me terrible customer service, ended up taking months to try and fix my boat. then in the end just took my money and said get out take your boat and deal with it. Rich seems like a nice guy at first but totally screwed me in the end. So disorganized, shop is a mess from hell. I would never use his shop again. Don’t be a fool and take your boat to him. After the fact I had to bring my boat to a real shop and they wouldn’t even work on it until they remounted the engine and tested it because his bush league employees and himself mounted the engine 3 inches to low. The list goes on and on. I have been towed in 3 times in the last 4 months since I got this engine from Rich. If you read this Rich, SCREW YOU!
