I have known Larry Pisano 10 years. Larry owns Accent Piano. I am a local piano teacher in the area and will only choose Larry. Larry is an artist when it comes to tuning. Larry last month refurbished a 60 year old piano, adding weights to the keys, adjusting the action — a complicated job. The young student now has a very serviceable piano… when before it was a complete piece of junk… true story.. Larry sometimes a touch more expensive in what he charges. Speaking for myself, I’d rather pay a little more to have the job right… As a piano teacher — .I appreciate that –when I refer a client for a piano tuning/regulation/refurbishing — that the job be done right the first time .I very highly recommend Larry. there are not many out there with his knowledge, experience and concern.

Larry Pisano is the primary technician for Accent Piano Service. He’s been out to tune my piano and he was great. Larry is very professional and an extremely friendly guy. I would recommend him for piano tunings, but I would caution you against having him perform any major work to your instrument. I have a very old piano and I’m slowly getting it back to like-new standards. When Larry first came out to do a tuning he recommended some other things I should have done. I was very trusting of his opinion, but I’m afraid my trust was misplaced. He recommended I have my piano voiced, meaning re-shape all of the felts so that a more rounded hammer hits the strings. Unfortunately, the felts were already very worn down and I learned from a second technician that a piano as old as mine would benefit very little from voicing – that it would be a very short fix. And it was. The felts went back to their previous condition in no time and it was a waste of $ 400. I should have just put that money toward replacing the felts altogether. Larry belongs to the guild of piano technicians and is a reliable technician for tuning, but he’s also business-minded. He will likely suggest your instrument needs a lot more work, but that’s the practice of every technician. So I would suggest always getting a second opinion and estimates from other technicians in order to avoid unnecessary work on your instrument. In general, you should get your piano tuned once a year if you are an average player, maybe two or three times per year if you’re a heavy player or if you have new strings. If your instrument goes too long without a tuning, it may be too far gone to bring it back. It’s like getting your car oil changed – it’s a maintenance that may help ward off future serious problems. There are plenty of technicians in town. Ask any piano teacher or experienced pianist for their recommendations. The bottom line is: I recommend Larry for piano tunings, but not for other services.
