In 2012 I received a lightrail citation from the VTA while I was OFF the lightrail and had just left the lightrail car. I explained to the VTA patroller that I was at the very end of a 2 hour pass and that I had left the almost expired ticket on the seat of the lightrail. at that time he refused to allow me to go grab the lightrail pass and also refused to even look at the seat which I told him, had my almost expired pass. He cited me and I immediately called the VTA and explained to them what happened. I also told them that I didn’t think legally they had president because I also wasn’t even on the lightrail at the time of the citation. The person from the VTA told me not to worry about it and it would be taken care of.

I never heard anything back about it, at all. Never received anything in the mail. Never was given the chance to appear in court to fight it, which I would have. Fast forward almost 3 years and now a collection agency has come after me, telling me that I owe 600 bucks to the VTA and if I don’t pay them, they will possibly suspend my license, prevent me from registering a car or at minimum, ding my credit.
I wrote the superior court of California and they said since I didn’t contact them before the expiration date on the ticket, that it was my fault and liability. I explained to them that the ticket had been lost and when I received no further communication about it, I had though the vta rescinded their ticket as they said they would.
Now im pissed. I want to sue to get them off my back for the 600 plus any legal fees that have incurred. Does this sound possible? Are you willing to take this case?

This is the new location of the VTA’s Downtown customer service center, as the old Market Street location is now closed. Most of the services they provide here can also be acheived through the website, or by calling the phone number. Ambiance– The layout is more open and comfortable than the previous location and all the service windows are clearly marked. There’s also some nice display cases showing various VTA memorabilia and Tchotchkes.
Service– I’ve come in here twice: once to retrieve my son’s backpack we had forgotten on the Light Rail and the second time to get my work issued Eco Pass. The employees I dealt with both times were really nice, informative and very helpful.
