At the intersection of Paseo de San Antonio and the First Street trolley line, the historic Twohy Lofts building is a fantastic residential address in the heart of Downtown San Jose. This former office building, built in 1917 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been meticulously restored to offer 36 Live /Work loft style apartments. With open floor plans, tremendous windows, and generous ceiling heights, Twohy Lofts provides extraordinary flexibility to allow residents to create their own unique living environments.
History
Established in 2002.
CIM converted this landmark building into a mixed-use property including 36 live/work residential loft spaces and restaurant/retail space on the street level. Twohy Lofts is centrally located along the Paseo de San Antonio and the First Street trolley line, adjacent to the historic Fairmont Hotel. Since the site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, CIM worked in collaboration with the City of San Jose to ensure the preservation of the building’s historic features.
Built in 1917, the concrete-framed building was rehabilitated into a retail/office/housing complex. The upper floors were made into 36 live/work loft apartments from 450 — 670 sq. ft. Finishes include granite counters, designer cabinets and hardwood flooring.
It took a number of careful steps by general contractor Swinerton Builders complete the renovation in 13 months (2002). The project architect was Monighan + Associates Architects; the preservation architecture advisor was Robert Chattel Architecture.
