Came here the other day with my aunts and Desiree was so awesome!. We arrived before it had opened but Desiree let us in and helped us so fast. Amazing customer service she was so nice!

Five stars for the customer service and product quality! My husband and I purchased a 100%-natural mattress from this store for only a fraction of a price which we would pay for a regular mattress (packed with chemicals and artificial substances) from other stores, as they had a great sale going on.
The mattress was scheduled to arrive this past Thursday, and so we arranged transportation to pick it up. With the heavy traffic and other appointment running late, we ended up being super late to pick up the mattress (unfortunately, the store closes very early — 7:00 pm). The gentleman who was working that night was extremely nice and agreed to stay past his scheduled work time, so that my husband could come and pick up the mattress. It ended up being almost 8 pm when he got there, and the gentleman was very friendly and accommodating all the time throughout, helping us to lift and put the mattress into the van.
Thank you, The Futon Shop, for being there! It’s so great to have a local manufacturer that produces quality, natural products and has such great customer service!

I stopped by at 3:30 Tuesday to look at futons. The person working there didn’t greet me with a hello, rather she asked if I was taking a picture of her little sister (who was climbing down from the top bunk of the showroom display) How creepy was her question right… what she saw was me looking at my iPhone for the time. I walked… no power walked through the store and left creeped out by this employee. I am not sure what her issue was that day, she was oddly paranoid and confrontational. I bought a Sealy futon from a nearby furniture store later that day.

After being very persistent with the futon shop, we finally did get our futon repaired. The second set of guys who came out said our futon was improperly put together the first time. I am glad to finally get this resolved.
The product is nice, once it is set up correctly. The number of ignored phone calls by the store management just cannot be called customer service.

We went to the store last week Desiree did a great job showing us around and letting us try all the futons. It is not easy to follow the different styles and features but thanks to Desiree we got what we were looking for. Price was good as they had promotions going on.

We have been thinking about getting a futon couch for accommodating guest from out of town. I was not sure what the cost would be as I have never gotten one. When we went to the store Sheng was with another customer but greeted us and asked us what we were looking for. When I saw the price tag I was surprised to see the prices as I they were more expensive than I thought they would be. However, it was Memorial Day weekend and they had very good sales. The organic mattresses looked attractive but they were quite expensive so we went with the standard one.
There are less expensive futon beds out there but the frames are flimsy and the mattresses are not as comfortable. The whole idea of us getting a futon bed is that when guests come over they don’t have to sleep on a blow up bed and be comfortable. You get what you pay for.
The wooden frame looks very sturdy and easy to pull out. We had three different choices on color for the frame and we got the black walnut. All of their mattresses and covers are made to order (in SF) so keep in mind there could be 2 to 3 week lead time. It is quite impressive the different fabrics and color you get to choose from for the cover.
We got the standard mattress type and the medium level collection. Sheng helped us pick the right mattress based on the usage. Since they make their own mattresses if your mattress goes bad you can replace it. They do have a 7-​year limited warranty though. Or if you want to change the color of the cover you can always purchase a new one.
We had picked a very light cream color but Sheng was kind enough to suggest a darker tint and we got the khaki.
He also mentioned that we should get the rubber pad as you will need it to stop the mattress from slipping. He was very honest with us and said that we can get it for cheaper at Walmart next door as all you have to do is cut it to size. We appreciated the fact that he was straightforward with us but for the price difference, time and effort, it just made sense to get it from them.
The delivery is $ 70 and only $ 40 for assembly. We got a queen size futon bed for $ 1158 including delivery and assembly. Since they have the bed frame in stock, we are getting the futon bed in less than a week. I highly recommend shopping at the Futon Shop if you are looking for quality futon beds.

I purchased a mattress only from this store. The customer service was very good for the shopping experience. There was a glitch made in ordering the mattress and it was not delivered when it was expected — HOWEVER — I am writing the review to say that I was pleased in how the error was handled. Mistakes happen, how they are resolved is what impresses me. I appreciated the customer service and my daughter is really happy with her new bed.

I think our review ratings of this company depend mostly upon the level of service we receive from the sales representatives. The product quality and pricing were good for me (so far). If you are going for something completely (artificial) chemical free nowadays, it will not be cheap even for online purchases elsewhere, but they have quite a number of models to choose from. And their prices are comparable with online stores. And their advantage is having a number of showrooms for you to try them out…
So all the more important are the sales rep’s knowledge and service that would lead you to making the right decision in this fairly expensive purchase.
Anyways, our purchase was on a complete artificially chemical free futon, and we had Desiree as our sales rep. I must admit, she must be one of the most patient sales rep we ever encountered. (That says a lot if the compliment comes from my wife). We literally spent hours walking around in their showroom, comparing colors, fabrics and materials, sizes and softness of each futon, and even the mechanics of the different frames. Actually, I had already done much research online, so I know the differences between each model, but she was still able to give us good inputs for our decision. She was honest in giving us answers she know, and diligent on researching the ones she is not sure of, instead of brushing our questions off with some vague responses.
So thank you, Desiree, for making our purchase an enjoyable one!

I went to this place to pick out a new futon. They had an awesome selection and many varieties with fabrics and mattresses. They also had some wonderful sales!
The service there was very helpful and tentative. Nonetheless, we got what we came for and finished the transaction smoothly!

Amazed at the great customer service provided by Sheng! I needed a new bed since mine just went in the dumpster due to mold from my drafty room. I had no idea what I was doing or what I was looking for. I just knew I had to get one that I could sleep in and also use to sit and play hours upon hours of video games. Sheng was very patient with me– showing me all the different options, giving suggestions, etc. I asked a lot of questions and he knew all the answers. He was very professional and very personable. He gave me an estimate for 3 weeks in order to get my new futon and it arrived in less than a week! Definitely would recommend going to see Sheng!

Why not 5 stars? Our order for replacement covers covers was delayed and we didn’t receive any notification.
Other than that … Robert was extremely helpful even though there were 3 – 4 people in the store besides us … he was alone.
If you haven’t considered a futon for a guest bed/​furnature you should! Many choices! You will spend more than other places, but it will last! We have had ours for more then 15 years!
Parking in this busy shopping center/​intersection is a pain in the ass! Not their fault!

I wouldn’t return if they paid me.
I went in and the sales guy was nice enough; I wouldn’t say «professional,» by any means, but nice. He got a personal call (and took it) while I and another customer were in the store, when he helped me, I had to choose futon color and he joked about how long it would take me to make a decision since I was a girl, and his mouth was full of gold. But it wasn’t bad. I wanted to finance the bed since I was in the middle of moving. He took my info and that was fine except that it was a Sunday and apparently, he could get my credit approved, but not confirm the total price because no one was in the office. I found it odd and refused. Magically, he finalized the price.
The real problem started when everything got delivered. The two men dropped everything off and asked who was going to assemble it. I laughed and said they are (I had my bed delivered just days before and the guys delivered and assembled). He said, not unless I want to pay another $ 40. For what I already paid, I told him to forget it. He said if I changed my mind, I could go to the ATM and they’d come back after they finished their deliveries. I told him no. I felt like I was being extorted.
I called the manager immediately and told him what had happened and he said there was nothing he could do about it and I did have the option to go to the ATM and pay them. I asked if it was common practice for them to extort money from customers or if the business was okay with their delivery guys asking for side business; he said it was fine. I told him I had never talked about the assembly when I bought the futon and it was never brought up to me. He said it was on the application I filled out — I didn’t fill out an application, he took my info verbally for the credit app. He ended up telling me that he was a manager and that he didn’t need to hear my complaint if I wasn’t smart enough to pay attention to the invoice. Now, I’ll take some responsibility as a customer and admit that I hadn’t noticed that the assembly wasn’t included, but I had also had a delivery made a few days earlier where they assembled upon delivery. Besides, my main issue here isn’t even the assembly — I’m capable and figured it out. My issue is the poor customer service that followed. I told him, as a manager, he should aim to please the customer and it really isn’t a huge burden or fee for your guys to come back and take care of it. He told me I could bring it to
. I told him I intended to — and I did. No word back from their customer service either. Maybe it’s not just that location, but the chain that has a problem focusing on the one thing that’s going to get them money — the customer. I’d return the stupid thing if I could, but the sales guy was quick to tell me I automatically lose 20% for restocking fee and I can only get store credit. If I knew then what I know now… :(

The store and the staff were friendly and helpful though I did not really like the quality. It is not as comfortable as it should be for the amount of prices they set.

I hate writing bad reviews, but my experience with The Futon Shop was bad enough that I want to strongly discourage anyone from shopping there. I ordered java drawers for my futon frame in the middle of May. The salesperson said that the store didn’t have any in stock, but that they would be delivered from the warehouse by May 31, or June 7 at the latest. He also promised that he would call me *either way* on ⁵⁄₃₁ to let me know whether they were in.
Since I hadn’t heard from him by 6/​7, I called the store back the following Monday, and the salesperson told me that the warehouse was closed and that he would call me back the following day. Of course, I never got that promised call. It ended up taking 6 weeks for me to finally get my drawers. In that time, I called the shop 4 times, and was promised courtesy status update calls every time. The shop *NEVER* called me.
When I finally received my drawers, I noticed that the box said «dark chocolate» even though I ordered «java» drawers. I asked the salesperson about it, and he assured me that the drawers were actually java drawers. Whatever the case, they do *NOT* match the java frame that I ordered from the same shop less than a year prior. I would take them back and ask that they be exchanged for actual java drawers, but I am too frustrated. I’d rather deal with mismatched drawers than conduct another transaction with this shop.

Was looking to purchase a futon so decided to check out The Futon Shop. On our visit, there was one guy working. You could see he was busy on his computer. He said hello & went back to his computer.
We looked around a bit, I was asking my friend what size she thought the mattress I was looking at was, she stated she didn’t know… the guy could clearly hear me but didn’t jump in with an answer so I finally looked over to ask him & THEN he told me. He didn’t jump in to help at all & seemed pretty lazy.
I started to mix/​match frames & mattresses. I asked him for a quote on one frame & one type of mattress. He told me & I then explained that it was a little out of my price range. He just looked at me & then went back to his computer. HELLO??? How about if you actually get up outta that chair & HELP your customers?! Did he offer other choices to help me meet my budget? NO. He did NOTHING. Hmm, he might of had a sale if he actually did his job.
So much for this location, I won’t ever return with service like that!

I did my research online first, then went into the store and made the purchase. I bought a fold-​out vinyl sofa bed that is VERY easy to convert; even my disabled son can do it (and does, frequently). It is comfortable to sit on, which surprised me, since I thought vinyl would be sticky, and it’s comfortable to sleep on.
Robert even held onto a toy my son left in their store several months before, and remembered us when we came in and brought the toy out, much to my son’s delight.

Bought a new futon from The Futon Shop on Almaden Exprwy in San Jose. The new futon was to be delivered to the store on Thursday, and was told I would be called when it had arrived. Got the call Thursday at 1:45pm and made plans to pick up said futon while my daughter was at a playdate. Arrived at the shop at 3:10pm with a note on the door: «At lunch, return at 3:15pm». Since that was only 5 minutes from the time we arrived we waited… and waited… At 3:30pm, my husband started checking the nearby lunch shops and found the store lackey, which turned out to be the store manager, having a leisurely time with some female at Britannia Arms. BA manager said he would send the guy back over to the Futon Shop. You’d think he’d be hustling, since he had a customer and was 20 minutes late returning from lunch. No, a casual stroll, like he couldn’t be bothered with work to interrupt his lunch with his girlfriend. He greeted us «How you doing today?» and I replied «Well, I’m irritated that I’ve be standing here 20 minutes waiting for you to get back from lunch» and his reply «Wellllll, all I can say is SORRY!» with attitude. Really? Hey let me return this futon and you can explain to your boss why you lost the sale.
Kept the futon, will be calling The Futon Shop corporate number and letting them know how rotten their service is at their Almaden store. And wanted to let everyone know to look elsewhere if customer service is a priority.

So my boss wanted me to look into futons for our company apartment. I’ve always seen the futon shop, so decided what better place to get a futon than a futon shop.
I browsed their online site, which had every option possible regarding futons, from the base to covers.
I went into the store to see if I can get a better deal than the internet deals. Robert was there to help right when I walked in. He knew exactly what I was looking for and showed me anything possible that was the exact or almost exact futons I was looking for from the internet. I also tried to get me the best deal possible and it came out to be a little cheaper than the website.
I didn’t place the order right then and there since I needed to clear the price with the big boss. I made a call in the next day and Tony was more than happy to help with the order. He also knew exactly what I wanted and made the phone order a breeze. He even made the price a little cheaper! Since I spend a certain price, I got free delivery and setup!
Two futons, bases and covers later, everything was delivered 3 days later, setup with no trouble at all. What great serve at the store and at the delivery center, Caesar. They were all helpful and quick.

I don’t usually care for futons. Don’t think they’re comfortable. However, occasion recently arose for us to need a spare bed that could easily be folded up and put away. My online search yielded only thin, narrow, mostly child-​size mats that didn’t look like they’d be comfortable to use on wood floors, or non-​foldable mats that would be a bitch to store when not in use.

Thanks to a great online coupon and friendly customer service on the phone, we made the trek out to the bowels of San Jose to buy our futon mattress. We wouldn’t go that far unless it was really important.
So glad we did!
We bought our mattress quickly, with no hassle. The service couldn’t have been better. We were able to try the mattress first for comfort, and compare it to a thinner model to see which would best suit our needs.
The store itself is tastefully comfortable, with lots of colors and comfy places to sit. Spending time in a place like that might improve my feelings about futons! It really was nice.
I’d recommend calling ahead first to the particular store — they have lots of locations — to confirm that the color, size, thickness, etc. you want is in stock. It could take a week to come in if they have to order it. It’s a fairly small space so it wouldn’t be practical for them to stock every color/​size in the store all the time.
We can’t put a price on the ability to snuggle with a purring kitty wherever he wants, when said kitty has decided he doesn’t want to be in the bedroom for whatever reason. We put a waterproof cover on it and there it is. And, if we ever have a surplus of sleepover guests and run out of beds, here’s another bed. Might even make kind of a cool room divider when stood on its side, zig-​zagged.
Even if we didn’t need another mattress, it’s a great place to browse and to experience niceness, a dying art in customer service.

Great products, and good service. But the thing that really set this place apart was the no-​hassle approach, and the fact that the manager went above and beyond to help me and my wife by driving the frame to our apartment for free! We live fairly close, but it was still really nice. She even helped us unload it. I don’t think that is S.O.P., but it was sure cool of her anyways!
