Carolyn and her team did all the hair and makeup for a friend of mine’s wedding 2 years ago. My friend was an extremely difficult bride to please, if you understand what I’m saying, but Carolyn was able to make her extremely happy and pretty much performed miracles. She made all of us look spectacular, I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my hair and makeup in my life. I looked like a porcelain doll. If I ever won the lottery I would hire these people to work for me full time, no joke.
I have been trying to go blonde for the first time in my life and the hairstylists at another salon were really messing up my hair so I was looking for a new salon. I happened to find one close to my work in Sunnyvale with really great deals and figured I’d give it a try. Lo and behold, when I walked in I learned that my appointment was with Carolyn. I was so excited that I had found her because she had done such a great updo for the wedding but I didn’t know she worked in a salon as well. She totally fixed my hair and made it look great. I also really appreciate that she gave me realistic expectations and didn’t just bleach the crap out of my hair like some people will do. She was very concerned with keeping my hair healthy and was willing to help educate me on the aspects of blonde hair that I have never really needed to know before. I believe that she has 15+ years of experience in thr industry, and I can confidently say she is not just a master of the updo, but also color and cutting as well. Her blonde hair looks so goegeous and healthy, so I’m willing to take any advice she has for me with the maintinence. She is my new hair guru, I am so pleased and I will definitely be back.

Carolyn did an AMAZING job with my hair for my wedding, so did Stephanie with the makeup. I don’t know much about makeup but my maid of honor says that the way my eyes were done was really tricky and Stephanie pulled it off perfectly. It’s so important to look great at you wedding and I truly felt like a princess. I had a vague idea of what I wanted going in and Carolyn effortlessly created exactly what I needed. My hairdo looked sophisticated, was comfortable, and looked perfect for over 12 hours and would’ve lasted longer! Same thing goes for the makeup.
The only thing is I had hard time getting for a couple of days coordinating with Carolyn when I changed my mind at the last minute and asked her to do hair and makeup for a few other people from my wedding party. However, we got in touch after all and on the day of the wedding Carolyn and Stephanie arrived even a few minutes early and made everyone look perfect in the time frame that we had.
I could not be happier with the way I looked at my wedding. Wish I could add a picture here to brag!

I first met Carolyn when she did our hair for my best friend’s wedding. I loved her work so much that I hired her for my wedding 2 months later! She did a fabulous job on both up and down dos on my whole wedding party. We got compliments all day :) I would definately hire her again!

I met Carolyn as a fellow vendor at a wedding a while back — our client hired her for Hair-​only, and hired me for Makeup-​only. Immediately I felt her positive energy and her confidence at styling hair.
From the get-​go, I knew that Carolyn is a superb professional from her consultation. Both she and I were meeting the bridal party members for the first time, and if you are in our industry, you know that sometimes there may be a few wrinkles because the wedding day is such a stressful day. Carolyn handled that tense situation with grace, and I knew that I can always count on her — which is why we’ve worked together on numerous weddings together since our initial fortuitous encounter!
Most recently with our client in Monterey, Carolyn had a vision to change the bride’s hair color during our trial session, and also suggested the bride to come see me for a waxing service before her big day, and when I opened the door, I gaped at how beautiful her hair color was and how it made her skin tone SO BEAUTIFUL. I always knew Carolyn was a great hair dresser, and up-​do specialist, but I was blown away by her hair coloring skills that time.
If you look at her portfolio, her up-​styling is specific: a look that will last you your entire wedding day. Of course she can also give you loose and romantic — you just need to talk to her, and she is very open and easy to talk to. I am fairly picky myself when it comes to hair color and hair cuts because I work with so many talented hair dressers — and I put my hair color in her hands! Definitely highly recommend Carolyn!

Carolyn and Stephanie were really great to work with. The trial make up didn’t go as good as I hoped but on the day of, they were awesome. They arrived a little late but they still were able to get me, my 4 bridesmaids and 1 flower girl done on time. They both really know their stuff. If they suggest something, listen to them because they are the experts!
My only bad comment is that Carolyn quoted me 2 different amounts for my hair/​makeup trial. I think this should remain consistent with all clients. And based on the other reviews, she didn’t even charge some people for their trials. Oh well, my hair and make up was great the day of the wedding. I highly recommend Swirls and Curls.

Carolyn and Stephanie made my wedding day so smooth and calm.
The trial was easy (and free) and in 40 minutes, Carolyn and Stephanie showed me my daytime wedding makeup, evening wedding makeup, and wedding hair. They were quick and efficient and showed me they knew what they were doing. I was sold.
On the day of my wedding, they were on time, quickly set up all their equipment and went to work. They were easy to talk to, easy to work with, and their recommendations were outstanding.
Our makeup by Stephanie was incredible, and she gave us dramatic looks that really made us stand out. Changing from daytime to nighttime, and doing everything we wanted. Her range of makeup covered everything we could have wanted, and included false eyelashes and touchup kits for everyone at no extra cost.
Our hair by Carolyn was unbelievable. Our hair didn’t move all night, and held up through many hours of dancing.
They took care of the little details that we weren’t thinking about, calling housekeeping to clean our hotel rooms while we were gone, and too busy too remember to do so. Answered the phones for us, and were willing to do anything to keep the room (and us) calm and peaceful.
I would recommend Carolyn and Stephanie in a heart beat!

Carolyn comes through!!! Her professionalism and timeliness for completing a fabulous look for me was awesome. She blow dried and curled my very long curly hair to perfection. I wasn’t sure about getting my makeup done professionally because this girl has been doing her own for years but a bridesmaid and myself both did and the complements never stopped coming. My makeup endured hours of dancing, smiling and crying. Thank you Carolyn for making my hair and makeup fabulous.

Carolyn did an awesome job cutting my hair and then styling it for an event. I have very thick hair which can be difficult to manage. Carolyn was able to style it with no problem at all!
I have had many BAD experiences with stylists in the past and finally found someone who knows what she is doing and makes the experience enjoyable! She not only makes you look good, you walk outside feeling good as well. I will definitely be going back!

Carolyn recently did my hair and makeup for my wedding and I was not pleased with the results. We had two prior trials and on my wedding day, she could not duplicate what we agreed on during the second trial. my curls did not look natural and was too hairsprayed. i kept telling carolyn to not make my eyebrows too thick and she did. if you decide to have carolyn do your hair and makeup for your wedding, make sure to take pictures and show them to her… although that didn’t help in my case. she tends to forget what we had agreed on. Carolyn should really consider taking polaroid pics to help her remember. the only positive thing i have to say is that carolyn did not charge for any of the trials.

Carolyn was fabulous. She really knows hair! She did a wonderful job on me and my 3 bridesmaids and made my little flower girl look like she had so much hair! We all received so many compliments. Stephanie was great with our makeup as well. I can’t wait for another reason to contact them again! I highly recommend them to anyone!

I’ve known Carolyn for over 4yrs and she recently did my hair and make-​up for a birthday celebration, my birthday celebration. She not only coordinated the make-​up perfectly with my dress, she also gave my hair style a complete make over. She highlighted and cut my hair all within a responsible amount of time and for an incredible affordable price!
Needless to say, I recieved lots of complements from both guy and girl friends.

I have seen Carolyn for my hair for 6 years. She is very reasonably priced for someone with her skills. I will not go to anyone else. Carolyn has done bridesmaid hair for me for several weddings. For those of you looking for wedding hair, I highly recommend that you have her do you and all of your bridesmaids. One of the last weddings I was in, everyone went to different hairdressers and frankly, my hair looked better than the bride’s (that was awkward).

It’s amazing how one can find little diamonds in the rust sometimes, and I must say, Carolyn and Liz are true gems!
You can call me a lot of things, just ask my mom, husband, and friends. I am extremely picky, at times a bit elitist, a perfectionist. I always want the best, and for my wedding, I wanted the absolute out-​of-​this-​world best. Thanks to these girls, I got it! Absolutely spectacular, glamorous, unique, and flawless hair and makeup for the bride and her friends on her special day, what more could a girl ask for?

I was referred by a friend to SwirlsnCurls, and I would recommend any bride who is looking for a professional hair stylist. Carolyn is amazing! I had short hair just below my chin and she managed to make my hair look amazingly long in a very beautiful updo. My hair stayed in place all night and came out great in the pictures. Not only does she do amazing hair, but she also traveled to my Mexico wedding to do my hair and all my bridal party and some family members updos. Great results, great work, and most of all very happy with her fees!

Carolyn and Liz did an excellent job for my wedding. I didn’t get to looking for hair and make up until less than a week to my wedding, and they worked with my schedule and fit me in for both a trial and the actual wedding day. Carolyn was really good at communication and answered all my emails and phone calls promptly. They were also a lot of fun to work with. Thanks a lot! Everyone complimented me on the hair and makeup. I would definitely use them again if i ever need to dress up for a party.

After my first trial I was so put off with the whole hair and makeup experience. However when I got my hair done by Carloyn and makeup by Liz I felt so relieved. I knew right away I wanted to book them for my wedding. Swirls n curls rates looked good and they were very flexible. They drove all the way to the easty bay for a flat travel fee of $ 50. Unlike many stylist Carolyn didn’t charge extra when I needed her to arrive at 6am. She also brought over two extra assistants at no extra cost. Just know that when you book for a party of 10 you will be charged for that number of people regardless if they all show up or not.
For the trial they worked out of Carloyn’s place and they worked quickly and efficiently. I could tell they have a lot of experience and I let out a big sigh of relief after the trial was over. If you go with them, the trial cost will be deducted from your total (a big plus!)

Just a few details to look out for if working with Carolyn:
–Although Carolyn is trustworthy, she should start writing up a contract for everyone.
–Communitcation through email was a bit slow at times
–Too much hairspray for people with black hair. It looked a bit grey in pictures.
Overall, Carolyn knows hair. She’s quick and she did an amazing job with my wedding party. Everyone looked gorgeous!

Carolyn did my hair for my engagement photo-​shoot and it looked absolutely fabulous! She worked quickly, efficiently, and she was a joy to talk to (which was great because there was no awkward silence while she did my hair).
Carolyn was also fully knowledgeable about what I was feeling, going to feel, or what I needed to get done (i.e. facials, massages, acupuncture, etc.) before the wedding. Therefore, she was able to recommend the appropriate people.
ADDITIONALLY, we have 9 women getting their hair done for my wedding. She was so kind as to offer to bring an assistant. For me, this was practically unheard of because EVERY hair stylist I had talked to wanted to be the SOLO person working on everyone’s hair. This definitely added brownie points to her name (as if she doesn’t already have enough!).
Anyway, as for makeup, unfortunately, it wasn’t Liz who had done my makeup (for the engagement photoshoot) because she had hurt her back. I say «unfortunately» because I didn’t get a chance to meet her and see what she could do. Regardless, the makeup was stunning! (And since Liz’s replacement was awesome, I have no doubt that Liz can do the same amazing job, if not better!)
All in all, I left her place more than satisfied with the job that they did. In fact, the photographer complimented my hair and makeup!
Since the engagement photo-​shoot was this good, I firmly believe that my wedding will be even more spectacular!
