I can’t gush enough about the fantastic work I’ve gotten from Rachel Mae. Me and my son (16) have had both had great experiences with her. He loves her, she listens to him. I just reluctantly got bangs and she did a spectacular job! Her prices are very reasonable, and she is very easy to talk to. And they have lollipops at the counter! :D

Love this place. My daughter is going to prom and i’m going to make an appt. soon. I love liz she’s the best. love to try out the others girls as well.

Rachel Mae is fantastic. She really cares about making you look good. It’s been a few months since my haircut and I still love it. The cut works really well with the shape of my face and the color is perfect. It’s easy to get ready on the daily and I’m happy with how I look. Thanks Rachel!

Let me start by saying Rachel Mae is awesome! So I desperately wanted my hair done for New Year’s Eve/​a photo shoot I had planned for New Year’s Day. And thankfully I got super lucky with a last minute spot with Rachel. First I contacted Liz the shops owner– I was super bummed to find that she lives in San Diego but she reassured me that the girls at Studio glam would be able to give me what I was looking for. I contacted RachelMae and thankfully she had a last minute cancellation so I booked with her. She was so helpful and professional from the very start. The studio itself is really cute and fun. Rachel is laid back, witty and focused. From the minute I sat in her chair I felt comfortable with her and most of the time we spent talking about everything and laughing. She remained focused and did an amazing job of giving me true old Hollywood vintage curls. She gave me tips on how to help the style last. I left super happy and can’t even count how many compliments I got ! Rachel is for sure my go to gal for all my future event needs. I highly recommend her and this salon.

Just wanted to drop a review for Studio Glam and more specifically, Rachel Mae as a stylist. Ladies and Gents, if you’re ready to look good like you know you should, then put yourself in the very capable hands of Miss Rachel Mae Havens.

Rachel is bad ass! She is like Picasso with scissors. I recommend her to all of my buddies and they are always more than pleased with the cut and experience. She is one of the few stylist who is amazing with clippers and scissor cuts as well; best of both worlds for dudes who want a clean look. If there was 10 stars id rate 11.

I love this salon for my hair styling needs. The ambiance is «fabulous». Liz is a sweetheart and you feel very appreciated as a customer. Rachel takes attentive care of her clients and stands behind her delightfully artistic work. I have never had so many compliments. Thank you ladies.

Fellas, book a men’s cut with Rachel Mae. I mean, yeah, she’s awesome at women’s cuts, colors, styles, etc., but she OWNS the gentlemen’s cut.

Rachel is freaking awesome! She cuts my husband’s hair as well as mine. She does incredibly amazing retro updos and make-​up. She makes wonderful recommendations and is adorable. She’s given me fun cuts and helped me grow them out with grace. Haha.

Rachel Mae is wonderful. I give her an half idea of what I want to do with my hair and she envisions it and runs with it, making suggestions. I went from elbow lenght hair to an adorable A-​Line bob and I am in love.
She is officially the only person I trust with my hair.

Liz is the best at what she does. She is a true artist who works so incredibly hard, yet her skills seem to come so naturally to her. Once we cover how I would like my hair to be done, she gets it, and my ‘do always turns out better than I could have imagined. This time around I asked her to touch up my highlights, but in a subtle way, as to not reach alI the way to the top of my head. The way she was able to blend the colors looks SO natural, its seriously amazing. I love my long hair and she always gives me a great trim to keep my length, but at the same time gives me a fresh look. Also, for me, the location is GREAT! I always enjoy our conversations too, not only is Liz a great artist, but she is a great person as well. Love Studio Glam!

Studio Glam is just the best. Liz is both one of the raddest and nicest people I know and also an extremely talented hair dresser. I found Liz and Studio Glam over a year ago when I was looking for a queer-​friendly hairdresser in the South Bay, and I have never been disappointed.
I have hairlust and often like to change up my short hairstyle. That means that I often go in with an idea or picture and Liz is really good at understanding what I am looking for and delivering a beautiful haircut and color. Over the last year, I have had a collection of superb haircuts from Liz: everything from a super elegant cut with red color to an edgy asymmetrical cut and a tasteful sideshave. It’s really refreshing to go to a hairdresser who doesn’t just deliver one type of really femme woman’s haircut; I appreciate the versatility of hairstyles Liz is able to do.
So at risk of sounding over-​gushy, Liz is great. She is a super creative and dedicated business owner that also does photography and teaches hair and makeup classes. I highly recommend trying out Studio Glam. (Oh, and get ready for a lot of hair compliments! I get so many these days.)

My hair is very important to me. I like to do wild colors and change it frequently. Sometimes I feel bad because I have such full long curly hair that it takes hours to get through.
After a long search, I was referred through a friend and turned to Studio Glam last year.

Liz is a genuine talent with hair, makeup, and even photography. I’ve had my hair cut, colored, and styled all to my exact taste each time and she really takes her time to make sure it’s through and what I wanted. She is also very caring and gentle. These qualities are great for a hair care professional!
The Studio’s look in the awesome downtown corner building and décor itself is very retro and stylish! The «pinup» theme and «oldies» music playing make the ambiance a very cool place to flash back to the 50s.
I ask for a stack of her cards each time I’m there just to hand to people that LOVE MY HAIR! Thanks to Liz and Studio Glam for the confidence to walk around with my HAIR DOWN!

My daughter has been getting her hair and make up done by Liz for the last couple of years now. One Winter Formal, Two Proms and most recently her 16^th Birthday in which I also had Liz do my hair and makeup. Liz is amazing with hair and make up. She takes time to listen to what my daughter wants and offers suggestions as well. My daughter has walked out satisfied every single time with both her hair and makeup. The prices are competitive and I am always charged what I am quoted. I can’t the count the number of compliments she receives at every dance she goes too. Studio Glam is amazing and I would highly recommend Liz for all services! Thank you Liz! I’m so happy we found Studio Glam and you two years ago!

Studio Glam is the best place for a haircut downtown. I’ve been a client of Holland’s for years, and followed her to this salon a while back. She’s great at taking my ideas from photos and turning them into something that works for my hair.
I love watching Liz and Miranda create awesome styles while Holland does my hair. They are always trying out the latest colors and trends. Plus the salon has a great vibe with cool music, cute pink chairs and their pin up theme.

We had to reschedule several times because they could not take me in with my 7yr old daughter, so I had to find a sitter and I needed my hair done before my anniversary.
I showed a picture of how I wanted and my hair just looked like regular highlights. I wanted peek-​a-​boos with my dark hair as a base with a few light chunks of highlights here and there but that wasn’t the case.
The person doing my hair, at the end, was in a bit of a hurry because her next client was arriving. What do you know, the client had a 3yr old boy. Thought they did not allow kids at the salon?
Came home and to see once I blow dryed my hair, the highlights were not the same color. one side looked coppery as the other side looked more golden. I’m sorry but my experience here was not a good one. :(

Liz has been doing my hair and make-​up now for several years. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. I have been to multiple different stylists and have been disappointed on many occasions but NEVER with Liz. Not only does she cut and color my hair she also does my two cousins and boyfriend’s hair. I first went to her when my hair was absolutely fried and she completely fixed the damage another stylist had done. She’s great with up-​dos as well and i have her do my hair for formal occasions. Overall Liz is a amazing artist with a unique style that is passionate about what she does.

Unilocal let me down! With all the rave reviews, and that they used Joico, I made a appointment here. :(
I work in a creative field so I can have creative hair. That said, I do work in an office and I have to look put together. I’ve been doing interesting cuts and colorful things to my hair for about 10 years. I get my hair dyed about ever 8 weeks and cut every 3 months. I’m a loyal client and I don’t jump around once I’ve found a good stylist! I’ve recently moved to the area and was looking for a new stylist. I know my hair and I know good/​bad work on my hair.
Issues:
1. The consultation/​service. Very very poor. This is a huge deal! She was just poor at discussing hair and having a consultation. She didn’t seem to care whether or not she got on the same page with me. Then she seemed to forget what I’d asked for, and didn’t really check with me if she understood what I wanted or my concerns. Strange and upsetting.
2. The cut. Not great.
3. The dye job — streaky. She put in a new streak of pink/​purple and freshened up my existing streak. She noticed that some places didn’t take well (Great!) and painted dye on to have me just leave in (Not so great). It did not fix the problem but covered it. Then, I initially asked for my grays to be covered. I was mocked for this. Yes, I only have a few but I’m willing to pay to have them covered and I’ve asked for it. They weren’t touched at all.
4. When I made my appointment I specifically asked for hot pink Joico brand, which I was promised wouldn’t be a problem. That’s why I chose this place, right? I was told it was the brand they used and that it was in stock. When I arrived, they had run out. This was annoying because I expect if you know what the client is wanting done ahead of time, you prepare the materials, right? That’s the whole point of telling them when you book what you want! If I hadn’t specifically asked for Joico, and they didn’t have it, OK. However, I DID ask for Joico ahead of time and was assured they had it!
5. Stylist drenched my back all the way down to my jeans. It happens. Her fix was that she didn’t want to use the sink with me again. Excuse me? That’s appropriate? I had to negotiate to get my hair washed again, she just wanted to ‘wipe off’ the dye instead. I’m paying a lot, please don’t treat me like this.
6. An unhappy client… she didn’t seem to care.
I asked her how long she’d been doing hair because I felt like I was in a student’s chair. I feel like I got student hair. I feel like I got student service. This is a pricey place. I tipped her 15% but I’m not going back.

This is a one of a kind salon with an amazing staff. Liz is one of the most talented styalists/​makeup artists I have ever encountered. Aside from that, I truly enjoy the time I get to chat with her when visiting for a service! I would recommend this salon to anyone!

This was literally one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had!
I had Liz The owner of the store color my hair and she literally only dyed my roots! The rest of my hair was my natural color! I was going for a lighter brown color but since she failed to set the timer and left me sitting with the paint drying in my hair for an entire hour! She burned my scalp! no on else was in the store so she had no excuses to forget about me. Anyway she left the paint in so long my «natural brown» color turned into bright RED! I left with a Clifford red spot on the top of my head with the rest of my hair, which is naturally «dark brown» showing underneath. Not to mention her technique of putting dye in left the color really in-​consistent towards the ends of my hair. So my roots were bright red and my tips were brown. Also other hair stylists know to dye the roots last because your skin cooks the paint, which could end up burning your skin, Which is exactly what she did.
Also I received just a trim and ended up leaving with one side of my hair 2 inches longer then the other side.
There is no excuses for letting anyone walk out with a shitty dye job and Crooked hair (just a trim) and still charge them $ 145 (a discounted price for only dying my roots) I don’t know how much she charges normally but that was ridiculous even if it had come out perfect. Save your money and go somewhere else! I don’t know how this place has such good reviews. It’s definitely not for Liz.
**UPDATE**
Also since Liz (the owner) has commented below hoping to «assess the situation» I’d like to add that I called Studio Glam repeatedly hoping to get my hair completely re-​done and fixed ASAP, but the workers at this store never answer their work line. I left a voice message hoping to be called back and never was! It took me 3 days of calling to even have my call answered. I talked to Liz (below) the owner and told her how horrible my hair had come out and she insisted saying that she «never dyed my hair RED,» when it clearly was red because of her failure to set a timer. I asked her if she could fit me in as soon as possible to fix the damage but couldn’t fit me in for another few days. It was clear that fixing her mistake and «assessing the situation» were NOT her first priority until this bad Unilocal review. Needless to say this salon was a bad experience and a waste of money.
I’ve since had to re-​cut and dye my hair at another salon who did a fabulous job for only $ 80 (original price). I wish I had skipped this experience all together and gone there first. It was a $ 65 dollar difference in price, great phone service (actually answer their work line), and I would have saved my scalp from being PAINFULLY burned had I gone with them in the first place. Also upon seeing what horrible shape my hair was AFTER Studio Glam they generously knocked off an additional $ 15 from my hair dye and hair cut, without me asking! (BECAUSE THAT’S HOW BAD STUDIO GLAM DID MY HAIR!)
