Skyline San Jose

I have lived at Skyline for over 4 years, and unfortunately the management team (Sares Regis) that has taken over is not very accommodating. I am preparing to move out, and I spoke with Daniel who informed me that i would most likely not get my full deposit back, even though he has no clue how spotless my apartment is. Not to mention my car has been broken into TWICE since living there. They are located directly across from a CRACK HOUSE and its in the hood. Sorry Skyline, i don’t recommend anyone move here. It’s a money drainer :/

I’m one of the first home owners in Skyline — 2 bedroom unit. Please be careful if you consider to purchase this condo. I’m living here now, but I strongly do NOT recommend this condo at all. The very first day, I had a plumbing issue in the master bathroom. There was a major water leak and I can’t take a shower there anymore. I was very surprised/​upset that HOA or Sales Office DO NOT want to take care of the issue. The sales office told me that it was sold «AS IS» and HOA told me to contact the warranty company. Ouch! They are doing NOTHING about it. I also discovered the refrigerator shelf was broken and I’m stuck with it too (but minor issue). Should I hire an attorney for this big mass? I’ve been living here for four days, but I want to get out of this place ASAP. I think you can find much better condo within the same price range in San Jose and this location is not so great. Please DO NOT make the same mistake as I did. I’m leaving my email address so that I’m telling the truth, not making up the story. Good luck!

⁷⁄₂₂ update — Sales office informed me that the developer will fix this plumbing issue. Wish they took care of the issue from the beginning…
5÷6÷2015 update — major police activities right outside condo entrance last night. I never seen so many cops and police cars (at least 10+) in residential area. I saw that in Rambo movie. My wife does not let me go outside at night at all. This incident reminded me a break-​in we had in parking garage last year.
6÷4÷2015 update — the garage gate was broken two days ago and it hasn’t repaired yet. I did NOT see a security last night either. I feel very UNSECURE because anyone can come inside the building.

I will try to give my honest opinion about this place, straight and to the point:
1. I lived at Skyline for about 10 months, I had just relocated from a different state and so I didn’t really know what I was getting into. Having said that, I still think the overall experience was OK, although not great, specially trying to get out of the lease (more about this below)
2. The area isn’t really that great as you may think. The housing subdivision across from the building is not so great, so walking around the «neighborhood» isn’t just safe after dark. The parking garage is «gated» but it’s really easy for people to sneak in, all you do is wait for the next resident to open the gate and you just follow them. During my time there there was a break-​in, people broke the window of the car and stole items out of the car. The police came in and everything, and then management put security for several weeks after the event. Parking is limited for visitors as well. I had the two bedroom and because of this I got 2 parking spaces. Some residents let their visitors parked at one of spaces, without asking, and so when I got there I had no way to communicate to this guy that I was blocking them. Management then called me back after 3 hours to move my car! The guy didn’t even say thanks! and of course he was driving a Corvette just fyi.
3. Groceries and just talking a walk you will have to drive. If you’re fine with that then be it. Willow Glen is a great neighboorhood which is about less than a mile to the west, still you will be better driving than walking. It just isn’t a nice area for talking a walk. Just check it out and drive a bit around the area, you will see what I mean.
4. The Tamien Train Station is within walking distance, but it’s not so friendly either. The building has an awesome insulation that closing the windows keep the noise away. I really enjoyed that fact. The same is true about about noise from the neighboors either above or next to you. You don’t really hear a thing!, which is great.
5. While I was there I had no problem leaving packages being delivered on my front door. Nothing was stolen ever, and I order all of my stuff from Amazon.
6. The staff is friendly and they do a good job. If you follow the rules and pay your rent on time then they won’t bug you. They are just doing their job. It’s a business after all.
7. Rent is competitive for the amenities, however my rent went up for about $ 60 bucks I think. I was surprised to see that because the city of San Jose is adding about 4000 new apartment buildings. Just drive near North First Street and Tasman and you will see all these new complexes already finished or about to be finished.
8. I had a very bad experience when I tried to get out of the lease. I guess the staff is following the process and making sure that management doesn’t loose any money. Still, I think they should’ve done it better. I mean, I would think that people are constantly moving in and moving out all the time. Basically, don’t bother cleaning up the apartment and or re-​touching the walls yourself. I did this, to the best of my intentions and the Skyline cleaning crew thought that it wasn’t done to «their standards». Even worst, I had paid a company to do the carpet, and somehow they didn’t notice! Still they went ahead and re-​did the carpet. I also asked them for some paint for the walls, I lived by myself with no pets and I thought the walls were in good shape, well, they weren’t in the eyes of the cleaning crew. It was such a pain because I had spent a full weekend cleaning and re-​touching the walls, and then on the following Monday I had the carpet guy coming in and do the floors. When they called me telling me that I had lost the security deposit + I had to pay for the floor and paint and I was in shock!!! We were talking about $ 600 dollars, if you add security + walls + carpet! I had to sent the receipt for the carpet and get some money back. About the walls, I couldn’t do anything since their cleaning crew had already repainted the walls over the re-​touch that I had already done. Anyways, after 3 months I got a letter in the mail from a collection agency asking me to pay Skyline for about $ 86 dollars. During the lease termination I personally talked to them and asked them if there was some money I owed them and everything seemed in order, I guess it wasn’t. Ugh, I will have to call back and deal with them once again. Because of this, my rating is just 2 stars. The apartment itself is nice but considering the less than desirable surroundings and my experience when the lease expired I would just give them 2 stars.

I just moved in three weeks ago — and happy with my selection. I was hesitant at first because of some of the reviews I read, but I’m glad I did my own due diligence and checked it out for myself.
Celine and Jasmine helped me through the entire process, from multiple showings to answering all my annoying questions, accommodating my every need during the lease signing and moving-​in processes. They were professional, attentive, and courteous.
The apartment itself is great. I have an awesome view and don’t feel boxed in or claustrophobic the way apts sometimes do. I am not a tv watching type and spend lots of time reading, meaning quiet time — and this place does it for me. With the windows closed, I don’t hear the train or the light rail or the freeway. My neighbors are professionals and quiet too.
I’ve not encountered any issues with security. I’ve always felt safe and twice now saw security on foot patrol in the garage coming home late at night.
My suggestion is … read the reviews to know tenant concerns; however, come check it out for yourself and make your own informed decision. I’m very happy with my choice and glad I didn’t judge based on reviews only.

Apartments are nice… but your car will be broken into, even in the garage. Its just a bad neighborhood and living in a high-​rise in this neighborhood brings unwanted attention to you and your belongings… it’s simply not safe.

I’ve been living here for a little over a year, and this place is getting worse. The garage door is CONSTANTLY broken, so the wonderful people in the ghetto have free access into the car garage and the inside of our apartment building. There was a MAJOR round of car burglaries (emphasize more than a few cars) that happened over a month ago in the garage. The staff is fake and condescending. The hallways smell of decaying trash. Management tries to cover the smell with aerosol fresheners, but they’re always running out and don’t replace the empty bottles. The lower floors are now low income/​section 8 and constantly smell of marijuana and cigarette smoke. People are constantly kicking the elevator buttons and scratching graffiti on the inside.
If you use the fire pits, the lighter chained to ignite the fire is constantly out of fluid (so bring your own). Gas grills are constantly out of gas and dirty.
In all honesty, Skyline is only worth $ 1600-​$ 1700 per a month. The area is not that great or safe.

I just moved into this wonderful location. The staff is very friendly and professional. My best experiences have been with Celine and Jolle, they are absolutely wonderful!
What I really love about my apartment is that it’s cozy and comfy with modern twist.

Skyline is perhaps one of the most beautiful property in all of San Jose. It is in the south downtown Tamien neighborhood, very close to public transit, and freeway access. There is much to do in the downtown core, just 5 mins aways from your front door and the property is well taken care of by the outgoing, personable and friendly staff. I highly recommend Skyline.

Meh, I’m sad to write this review. I’ve lived at Skyline for about 2−½ years. When I moved in, the management company was top notch and the facility was well maintained. More recently, Sares Regis has taken over management and things have gone way downhill. They seem to be making some improvements to the property, but not (in my opinion) the right investments. They have made cosmetic upgrades to the lobby and patio spaces, and these are nice. But, they seem to be neglecting things like security and janitorial services.
As others have stated, the security gate is frequently broken, thus no security in the parking area and elevators.
I used to see security patrols sometimes, particularly at night, but I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone, except maybe when the security gate was broken for weeks on end.
There is usually trash and/​or spilled beverages in the garage area near the elevators. You can tell that people «kick» the elevator call button by the shoe prints left on the buttons. Classy tenants, no? And I can’t describe the decaying stench that comes out of the garbage chutes.
The management office used to accept packages, but lately I have been seeing that most of the carriers are either leaving packages at the door (which I’m hearing from other reviewers that they’ve had their packages stolen), or leaving notices that the packages couldn’t be delivered since no one was home. I’m not sure if the management office is just refusing to accept packages, but this is becoming annoying/​bothersome.
I have had some recent issues with security/​safety concerns at and around my particular apartment unit, but I prefer not to get into those in a public review. Needless to say, I’m disappointed and frustrated, and fearful for my personal safety.
I am disappointed to see how this complex continues to decline as time goes on, both in the quality of the tenants and the quality of the property including the management team. Not to mention my rent has gone up a few hundred dollars in the 2−½ years I have been here.
As I said, meh… I am hoping to relocate somewhere where I feel safer. I believe they are going to continue this slide downwards unless they wake up and start making some serious changes around here.

othe property management company is great. Daniel and Selen. Wonderful. the company that owns it is terrible.
The gate is broken again. so anyone can come and go. This means security is a zero.
There is no on site 24 hour maintenance. they will have to drive there to fix it.
The rental rates change with the owners mind, from one day to the next.
not a desirable neighborhood. especially not with the gates broken! i want my car and my home secure. I have been here for three years. it has gone downhill fast.
sorry. that is the way it is. I am willing to spend more for better.
oh, no pool.. no hot tub.

My wife and I have lived here for two years. We moved there in May of 2009, and moved out June 30, 2011.
The Good
— Very nice units, with modern appliances
— Great view, especially if you’re on the 6^th floor and above and facing east (free fireworks show at SJ Giants stadium during baseball season!
— The staff (maintenance included) — Very responsive and friendly
— VTA station very close. But, I wouldn’t advise walking from there alone late at night. Not exactly a friendly neighborhood.
The Bad
— My vehicle got broken into weeks after we moved in. No security cameras were in place. They did eventually install some cameras
— Hard water — no water softener available for the first 1.5 years. Like, really hard water. They finally installed a water softener a few months ago. But, I figure they have effectively shortened the life of the dishwasher (which is now working at probably half of its efficiency due to being clogged up by hard water deposits).
— Rough surrounding neighborhood — forget about any ideas of a night time stroll, etc. The neighborhoods towards the east side of the building are pretty rough looking working class neighborhoods. The police seem to get routine calls (I say «routine» because I see them there quite often) to the homes right in front of the building where you can usually see a bunch of shady looking dudes hanging out day and night. Opinions may vary, but those are mine.
— Visitor parking? Good luck. The residents like to take all of the available visitor spots in front of the building. Try parking down the street in the VTA lot. Walking from there to the building late at night alone is probably not so wise, though.

+2 stars for letting us break the lease.
The below review was written prior to 4÷6÷2012. On April 6^th, I was confronted by a stranger in our parking lot trying to steal bicycle parts. I won’t go into details, but basically, I paid too much attention to this character by the bike rack than I should have. He threatened to get physical with me, and although I barely escaped any chance of assault-​I did escape.
Management has been very understanding of the life endangering situation and allowed us to move immediately. This is partly why I give it four stars, the other reason is that with some common sense and street smarts– this is a good place to live.
Read below for the review I wrote prior to the incident.
PROS:
–No cockroach or flea infestation as of yet.
–Units are practically sound proof
–Appliances are fairly new since building was built in 2008
–Management stopped their «bi-​weekly inspections» 6 months ago– hope this stays!
[UPDATE 1/​22/​12] — Management had another «inspection where they were supposed to check our HVAC system, windows sills for moisture, etc. When they entered our unit, my lady was with them the whole time and all they checked were if the faucets had running water in two bathrooms. Can you say SKETCHY? I get the feeling that these «inspections» are completely bogus and just an excuse to snoop around.
–They hired a guard to cover the night-​shift while the garage gate has been broken for the past 2 months — and they are going through some 6 month warranty phase — that they never discuss with the tenants until you directly ask… OK, maybe this is a NEUTRAL
–Management did not raise the rent too much after renewal!
–Near the highway
CONS:
–Packages get stolen off your doorstep (so you’ll see a few units with signs that say «Leave packages with office»
–Garage gates should never be broken for more than a week, let alone 3 months!
–Management sends out reminders that we are a NON SMOKING community, yet I saw our night guard smoking a cigarette last night.
–Management aren’t particularly friendly, and will make you WAIT to pick up a package if they are assisting new customers.
–I want to say 50% of the bicycles in the garage area either get stolen or have tires/​seats stolen. I was one of the victims.
–Shady neighborhood, this is the main reason why we have not yet gotten a dog– because we wouldn’t be able to take it out at night.
–Hardly any guest parking, so street parking gets pretty shady.
CONCLUSION:
At this point in time, I am satisfied with living here, but Unilocal’s 2 star rating says «Meh. I’ve experienced better.», which I have– under the old management of this building– but you can read the other reviews on here to learn about that!
UPDATED CONCLUSION (after incident) — This neighborhood is not for me. It’s like living in a gold mine located in the middle of the worst part of Oakland. We’re prime targets.

Really hate having to downgrade my review since I’ve had such a great experience at skyline up until now. Still a huge fan of the building but security seems to be a huge issue.
I completely understand that it’s impossible for a parking structure to be «100% secure». Last week my car was broken in to inside the garage and about $ 5,000 worth of aftermarket stereo equipment was stolen. This wasn’t a quick smash and grab as they took the time to pop off speaker grills and unscrew components, even took the time to take off an amplifier that was bolted to a metal plate hidden in the trunk.
They also took the gate opener (and according to management other residents have had these stolen from their cars as well) which means that the people who broke in to my car now have complete access to the garage to go back for seconds, and even more importantly this allows them to take the elevator to any floor in the building.
Even though the team has been great and I love the unit I won’t be renewing my lease next year.

I’m picky and 5 stars don’t come easy from me. Don’t know what the people giving 1 star are on about.
I moved in from out of state a month ago and Skyline is above my expectations so far. I’ve primarily been dealing with Selene and she has been professional, accommodating, and proactive regarding maintenance issues/​requests.
The building is built solid and no loud neighbors (thank god). It’s right next to the freeway and CalTrain but the triple-​pane windows mute it well. The neighborhood is decent — not upper class but not scary, and no noticeable homeless roaming around, bless them. The residents I’ve encountered so far seem normal and friendly.

Skyline is a really nice place. I ended up not leasing here because my job took me too far away — and couldn’t get there via CalTrain or Skyline would have been PERFECT since it’s right next door to the Tamien CalTrain/​Light Rail station. But I wanted to write something nonetheless because of how great an impression I got.
The office people are super nice and I was drooling over the 2 bedroom I wanted. It had arched windows, almost the entire length of the wall, with a living room that would have been great for my sofa and flat screen. Lots of storage space too so I could actually fit all of my stuff!”

I’ve had a really great experience with the team at Skyline. Unlike some of the other reviews, I haven’t experienced any of the issues people seem to be having.
My biggest concern is cleanliness and especially in the areas of the building that I don’t control. I have to say, the hallways, the gym and BBQ outside area are always looking great. I’ve been to other communities where the hallways were stained, parking garage messy with trash and litter all over. Luckily, with the management folks here none of this has been an issue.
Rent is expensive but I looked all over in San Jose and everything is expensive! I picked Skyline out of the others though because of the killer views and fantastic kitchens. The kitchen is GREAT for entertaining!

I move here from my condo in downtown San Francisco because I needed a second home closer to my San Jose office. I couldn’t be happier with Skyline at Tamien Station. I have rented at many places and never had problems anywhere, but I have never seen people go more out of their way to get me what I needed more than at Tamien. Hieu and the rest of the staff are exceptional at what they do.
I’ve looked at many other places before I got to Skyline but once I got the tour of the place I signed the papers the same day. For the money Skyline is the best value. Other places would charge for every upgrade like the counter tops, appliances, and flooring. At Skyline they did everything right.
If you’re looking quality and a good living experience, I would definitely recommend Skyline.

When I first moved to San Jose, I was looking for a place to buy. At the time, I looked at Skyline, which had been built as luxury condos. I was impressed by it. However, I decided not to buy (wise choice, go me!), and instead I rented for a year somewhere else.
Then I saw that Skyline had transitioned to apartments. The real estate market’s loss is my major gain. Skyline is absolutely gorgeous: a mix of carpet, bamboo flooring, and stone tile; big windows with a view of the city and the mountains; granite countertops and brushed steel appliances in the kitchen. The master bathroom is so big I keep threatening to put a guest bed in there when friends want to visit.
Best of all, price per square foot, it’s cheaper than where I was living before.
It’s true that it’s right next to the freeway and the train tracks. However, the architect apparently somehow magically knew that he was building a residential building right next to a freeway and train tracks, and remembered that it was going to be a _​luxury_​residential building, so he soundproofed it. The windows are triple-​pane glass, and you can barely hear it when a freight train goes by – you’ll feel the rumble, which is pretty cool if you like trains (which I do).
The management is just great, too. Everybody down in the management office is really helpful and cheerful, and the building’s maintenance guy, Joseph, is fantastic. What’s more, most of the management (and Joseph) live in the building, so they have a vested interest in keeping the place nice.
This place is fantastic, and I’ll stay here as long as I live in San Jose.
