Personal Injury Attorney, representing people who are injured as a result of others’ misconduct. I handle auto, motorcycle, bicycle, and truck/​big rig accidents; falls from slipping/​tripping; dog bite; sexual assault; and battery.

The emphasis of my practice is on death and serious injuries (such as broken/​fractured bones, spinal cord or disc, nerve, scars; head/​brain injuries; and injuries requiring surgery to repair).

Even if it appears the responsible party has no insurance, or not enough insurance, you should contact me to discuss the situation, before you try to resolve it yourself. Call me for more details and to discuss your case at no charge.

If you are in the hospital or a rehab facility, or your injuries make it impossible for you to come in to my office, I will come to see you.

Most cases are handled on a contingency fee basis, which means you don’t pay me hourly fees. I receive a percentage of what I get for you.

History

Established in 1978.

I graduated from Santa Clara Univ School of Law, Cum Laude, passed the bar the first time, and opened my office in downtown San Jose. I started with a general practice, including personal injury, criminal, family law, contracts, business, collection, landlord tenant, real estate, wills, and bankruptcy. I narrowed my practice over the next 10 years, and have almost exclusively handled personal injury cases for the last 25 years.

I have never had a malpractice claim against me, and have no disciplinary record with the State Bar.

Much of my business comes from referrals from former clients, other attorneys, and other professionals.

My clientele is/​has been racially, culturally, and economically diverse.

I am originally from the Chicago area, and came to the San Jose area in 1975 after graduating college with a BA in Political Science. I went to Univ. of Santa Clara for law school and graduated with honors in 1978.

I clerked for a judge in the San Francisco Superior Court while in law school, and worked for 2 different law firms while at Santa Clara. I also was on the moot court team.

I’m currently looking for an attorney in regards to a criminal defense case, and Unilocal suggested a few other attorneys besides the one I was initially trying to get a hold of (side note: don’t take Unilocal suggestions, they don’t recommend you to the right attorneys, hence why Robert received a message from me… but I appreciate the effort Unilocal lol). Although he covers personal injury and not criminal defense, he wrote me back quickly and suggested three other attorneys for me to reach out to. So I really appreciate him taking the time to do that. Good luck to those looking for an attorney, he seemed genuine considering he wasn’t even taking my case.

Mr. Kopelson answered a legal question I posted on Avvo law site, and it was the one I felt best of many. I called his office just to thank him, and said I didn’t need to speak with him but just please express that to him. I was asked to hold, and then Mr. Kopelson came on the phone, and for some time continued to discuss the question I had asked, being very succinct, informative and helpful. I called looking for advice about a possible malpractice issue. The receptionist forward my call directly to Mr. Kopelson who patiently answered each one of my questions with a very thorough and detailed answer. I appreciate the fact that he was honest and gave me a realistic idea of what could happen depending on what I decide to do or what my opposing party decides to do. You Want Him On Your Side…
My wife was injured on a cruise ship and we needed to find an appropriate attorney to handle the matter. I did some research on Unilocal and came across the almost unanimously great reviews for Mr. Kopelson… so I called.
Since he wasn’t available at the time, the receptionist asked several questions so Mr. Kopelson would have a reasonable idea of our situation. I didn’t expect him to call back for a while, but he was on the phone with me about an hour later.
Although he quickly recognized we needed an attorney with a somewhat different specialty, Mr Kopelson offered his perspective on our circumstances which I found quite valuable.
If my contact with Mr Kopelson ended at this point, I probably wouldn’t have written a review. However, he sent a letter which arrived a few days after the call outlining some additional suggestions. He didn’t have to do it, especially since the particular expertise we needed was missing, but the follow-​up was so impressive I was moved to take note
If our experience was a small sample of Mr Kopelson’s work for his clients, I’d definitely reach out to him when in need of a personal injury attorney.

I contacted Mr. Kopelson to discuss a motorcycle accident. He gave me useful tips and information that calmed me down. Robert patiently listened to me on the phone, asked me questions whenever I couldn’t explain the situation clearly. He was polite and understanding during the whole conversation. Gave Robert a call regarding a traffic accident issue. He doesn’t handle those kinds of cases but he took the time to talk to my husband about the case and gave me two referrals to another attorney and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Sorry but this guy is a total jerk! Calling in and needing some advice that I was actually at fault for (so on opposite ends here) he continuously gave me smart remarks and a ridiculous attitude. He giggled and laughed as I tried to explain myself. I’m glad I didn’t have to do business with him. Stay away from him!!! Just because I couldn’t give you business/​MONEY doesn’t mean you treat people in a way that they’re illiterate.

I am very impressed by Mr. Robert B Kopelson. After talking to him, and discussing my accident injury over the phone for 40 minutes, I understand more about what will/​should happen rather than just worrying and blindly relying on my insurance company to be fair with me. I called Mr. Kopelson to discuss a minor incident in which I had been involved. He gave me several tips and information that helped me out. When I told him I would probably contact him if the other party in the incident decided to take any legal action, he said, «why would you do that? your insurance company has lots of high paid lawyers to help you out.» Talk about honesty! The next week I received a follow up letter from him summarizing our discussion and adding a few more details.
Mr Kopelson seems like a very knowledgeable and straight-​forward individual and I would definitely call on him again should the need arise.

So I first found Robert Kopelson from all the positive reviews on Unilocal.I happen to call during my 12pm lunch break and he was more than happy to assist me with a possible case that I wanted his feedback on. Sure enough, he spent roughly 40 minutes over the phone explaining all the details, what to do, and how I should go about handling it. I’ve spoke to several lawyers over the phone in the past, but not one had a calm and positive demeanor that Robert possessed nor did they want to spend anymore than 10 minutes over the phone.
Here is where the 5 stars comes in. About a week later I got a full letter from Kopelson explaining everything we went over during our conversation. This is something I wasn’t expecting AT ALL! Not only did he spend nearly 40 minutes over the phone, but a professional typed letter immediately after? Wow, talk about awesome customer service. I definitely advise Robert Kopelson to anyone seeking legal advice.
