Physicians Medical Group of San Jose

I have selected my Primary Care Physician, Obstetrician and during a high risk pregnancy, my Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist all from Physicians Medical Group of San Jose. I was really disappointed when my husband and I both got new jobs and were unable to continue with Kaiser but PMG introduced me to a larger selection of doctors, some who are much closer and more conveniently located to our house. I also like that my doctors all really know me and my family and take great care of us. I’m super serious when it comes to my family and healthcare, I’m happy to say that PMG has been an excellent choice for us.

I have found the physicians and staff at PMG of San Jose to be extremely professional, friendly, courteous and available when I called. Referrals for needed specialist care were approved immediately and care. I am definitely staying with my physicians and this medical group.

As a past patient of PMGSJ, I can say I truly miss not having them. (New company benefits don’t allow for the option any longer) The staff at Excel was always so helpful when it came to getting an authorization that I needed and the process was painless with payment and made my transition so much easier after having lost that coverage. Even when calling in stressed out worried I would finish my call with the comfort of knowing that all would be done correctly. Hoping with open enrollment soon I’ll be heading back to PMGSJ where the Dr’s that I had were friendly and truly made a person feel like more than just a number.

Great Staff — My dad after having a knee replacement could not find a doctor who could take 2 minutes of their time to answer any questions he had. He would come home frustrated because the doctors would never give him the time of day. After trying out about 5 different doctors he was referred to Physicians Medical Group in San Jose by a friend. Melissa Correia, their assistant there helped him with everything that he needed. Filling out paperwork, getting them their authorization for services, answering any questions he had, and even called to check up on him periodically. He felt so comfortable there and for once felt like a valued patient.

My doctor changed medical groups and to stay with her (I was with her for 16 years) I had to change medical groups. PMG is the worst ever!!! I fell off a bike and my doctor sent me for xrays — the xray showed 3 possible fractures in my back and I was in a lot of pain. It took PMG 3 weeks for an authorization for me to just see an orthopedic doctor. Even the doctor’s office will tell you that they are horrible about their referrals. PMG says it takes 5 – 10 business days, UNTRUE! Then I went in for a knee exam (had knee surgery, and I have bone on bone/​arthritis on the knee) — they denied an injection for this reason «no history of taking Tylenol» !!! WHAT??? My MRI shows that taking pills will ease the discomfort but I was denied treatment for my knee because I have no history of taking Tylenol??? Don’t use this medical group, they shouldn’t even be in business. I will be switching back to SCIPPA — great medical group, they do referrals in 24 hour turn around and I’ve NEVER been denied a procedure. Believe me, I’m bummed to change doctor’s but having a broken back and 3 weeks to see someone, to me that isn’t health care.

Maria returned my call about two hours after I left a phone message with her. To be completely fair, I didn’t leave her a lot of information to work with except my name, subscriber number, birth date a phone number.
My call was to get approval to go to a provider outside of the direct HMO network, but apart of Blue Shield’s PPO network. She gave me different information than Blue Shield did, did not clarify the explanation of benefits (EOB) and was trying to get me off the phone. When we were disconnected due to cell reception, I did not receive another call back until about 10 minutes later.
The information was brief, incomplete, inconsistent with my prior understanding of my EOB and possibly incorrect. I was unsatisfied, and while asking for more information, the phone disconnected again. I waited an hour before calling back for her to return the call to answer my questions, but that did not happen. I called (at 11am) and left a message with a request to have a call back with no response. I called and left another message this morning…
I am unsatisfied as a customer, but the reason I gave 1 star was because I felt PMG is not doing their job in explaining benefits and catering to my request for services.

PMG is awful! The staff is rude and not helpful in any type of way. It’s already bad enough having to get the run around when you’re sick, but when you have to call them– forget it! All bad. The only reason I stay with PMG is because I don’t want to switch doctors, otherwise I would totally change.
They had to authorize a boot for me last month due to a fractured toe. The specialist I went to had put it on «urgent» for me since I was limping around in a lot of pain. When I called Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics (place I was referred to), they told me that PMG had taken it off of urgent. When I asked why, they said they didn’t know and that I would have to call PMG to find out. So I call and the woman that answered was extremely rude! She told me «You’re not going to die from it, so it’s not urgent!» She then proceeds to tell me that I will get the boot the following Wednesday (days later). WTH?! So I’m supposed to continue limping around with a fractured toe?
She tells me to call back in an hour, then hangs up on me. I was so close to telling her off but held back because I needed the damn boot. I call back in an hour and she says «The authorization went through! You should know this by now!» How the hell am I supposed to know? Am I psychic all of a sudden? No one was following up with me or anything. Whatever… people like that irritate me. Why are you going to work with people if you are not a people person? In the wrong field people! And all the staff that work there are like that. :/
