Old Port Lobster Shack

Out of the ordinary mall/​food court food! Enjoyable if you don’t mind paying $ 28 for a lobster roll, fries & soda. You get A TON of lobster meat and it’s quite tasty!
Please try it!

The one good thing I can say about this place is that it’s convenient because it’s at the Valley Fair Mall. To start, the prices are bit much, which in my book is ok if the food is good. However the food doesn’t match up to the high price tag. I’m being nice to give it 2 stars. Perhaps 1.5 stars would be more appropriate.
I tried the lobster mac & cheese and some of their fries. The lobster seemed fresh. However it lacked the flavors I would expect. The mac & cheese portion was just terrible. They didn’t add enough cheese and everything tasted dry. I didn’t get the ooey gooey consistency that I would expectd from a good mac & cheese.
Of the other choices that I can have at the mall, this wouldn’t be the place I would come back. I’d rather have Panda Express.

Was here 6 months ago and the fish ‘n chips was very good — decent portion of fries and nice chunks of fish with a good battering. Fish almost looked hand cut. Came back after Christmas and the amount of fries had shrunk and the fish was a small, very symmetrical rectangle. Not great.
Something has changed, and not for the better. Disappointed.

I got the Maine Lobster Roll and it came with potato chips, some potato salad and a pickle.
The Lobster Roll had lots of chunks of lobster and a good amount of mayo, but not too much mayo where it overpowers the taste of the lobster.
I don’t know what else to say except that it was hella good and if only lobster didn’t have as many calories, I would probably eat this every day.

I’ve walked by here numerous times and had always wanted to try this place: Now I realize why I shouldn’t have. Overpriced and mediocre. A $ 20+ naked lobster roll that was slightly larger than a slider and was as enjoyable as dating a 10 model with the personality of a 1. When it came down to it, $ 30 for the amount of food that you get in a McDonald’s mini meal only not as good, just so you get some perspective.
Among the other food court options here, I would only rate it better than the chicken spot at the opposite end.

If you don’t want to drive out to Portola Valley or Redwood City for their lobster roll, you can come here instead. The lobster rolls here are still tasty and so are their fish and chips. I think their fries are the best that they’re so addicting! They also offer beer and wine and I like that they have their own private seating area.

Loaded with lobsters, fries and coleslaw are okay.

oh boy. I used to enjoy my visits to get some tasty seafood at Old Port Lobster Shack when they had a real restaurant place downstairs by the parking garage at Valley Fair. (didn’t get much traction going so it closed down fast.)
I will say the service is good at the front counter. however, the food is becoming what it is. just another mediocre food stall at the food court.
cup of Clam Chowder: just so so. came warm. can get free oyster crackers at the condiment bar. tastes kinda like Progresso canned Clam Chowder. I’d rather have the one at Sam’s Chowder House. (their’s have bacon! mmm…)
Fish n Chips: came with cole slaw n tartar sauce n a slice of lemon. the piece of battered fish was kinda on the small side. the fries were not as crunchy as I hoped they were. i wouldn’t order this again. the Fish n Chips at Race Street Market r still the best.

First off let’s throw some info onto the table, to get a clearer picture of this place. I’ve been to the original Redwood City one many times, so I’m able to weigh this out.
–This is a small shop inside a food court IN A MALL. Albeit a clean and nice mall, you still have to walk into the mall space to get here.
–Menu is condensed by more than half. Mostly sandwiches (including their famous Lobstah Rolls), salads, some deep fried items and chowder. Fried clams here are the strips, while they use the whole bellies at the RWC location. Not bad, but loses the authenticity factor here.
–What they do offer is still pretty much the same as the other locations, including the prices. I don’t mind paying these prices because it is pretty good seafood, but dropping $ 30+ for a meal here does seem a bit strange in the mall environment.
For example, once ordering you can sit either in their small dining area or in the common food court area. We chose to sit in their area and there will be peeps sitting next to you eating super cheap Chinese food from a Styrofoam box from the stand in the same court. Not a big thing but super noticeable.
I guess I am still a fan of this particular location only because it breaks the mold on mall food court fare. To be able to nosh on legit lobster in a sea of cheap, disgusting mall food is kinda refreshing to me. Don’t know if it’ll work out entirely, but I’m on board with this one.

I’ve only ordered the lobster sandwich here and I love it every time. The lobster tastes fresh and it comes with a side of french fries. Yesssss please! They’re also not cheap with the amount of lobster they stuff your sandwich. You really do get what you pay for. This place definitely comes to mind every time I’m shopping at the mall and looking for something to eat.

The lobster roll is an absurdly small portion for the price. Service is slow and there was a piece of shell in the roll, so nothing great to say there.
The fish and chips was alright and not a bad value for the price, but nothing amazing. There are a lot of better options in the area for this type of food.

This restaurant was kind of a classy restaurant. The fact that it was in a food court took away the luxury of it though because the food here are kind of pricey.
I ordered the fish and chips and the fish pieces were HUGE! I was full after eating one and since it came with fries, I tried to finish that as well. The fries were great. Crunchy and fresh.
I heard that their lobster rolls are amazing it’s something I would like to try next in the near future.

The first problem with Old Port Lobster Shack is that it’s super spensy, and like… what on earth is it doing in the mall?
While I’ll admit it can be very tasty, the seafood: price ratio is just plain bananas. $ 19 for a lobster sando that’s not even that big.
When I wanna ball in the mall I’ll definitely still hit it up for some of that shellfish, but damn does my pocket hurt after a trip.
Also don’t get the bisque, while you get a pretty hefty amount of lobster the soup itself is pretty meh, and mine in particular was broken and sort of bland.

I have a confession. I love to get fancy from time to time. Break out the Roederer Cristal Rose and lets wine n dine it for the night. Ah the good life but can you really blame me? Popping all that bubbly you start to feel like you’re in a Puff Daddy music video but sadly since my status isn’t lifestyles of the rich and famous and my everyday activities aren’t narrated by Robin Leach, unfortunately my hard earned skrilla scratch can not be thrown at 5 star Michelin restaurants daily. If I could have it my way lobster would be be on the menu all day every day.
If you never had lobster before and are noob to the whole lobstah scene, just a fair warning that lobster isn’t cheap. So with that being said expect to pay around $ 10-​$ 20 for your meal. It still beats the 50 – 90 dollar price tag you get at a restaurant. Fresh, real lobster yes ya heard right REAL Lobstah meat without fracturing your wallet. Grab some bibs and bring your appetite and call it the best of both worlds, city life and a great lobster roll! I think I just hit the jackpot with this one.
My intentions when coming in was to order the Maine Lobster Roll. That’s right, Maine Lobster in California. It’s not Maine but it’s good for what it is. The Maine lobster roll which consists of (mayo, green onions, salt & pepper). Along with the roll you receive salty crispy fries, slaw and some awesome sweet pickles. The lobster was cooked perfectly and as you can see they give you a generous amount. I paid higher prices at restaurants that skimped more out of my meat.
Tender, fresh lobster meat is hard to refuse, especially when it is cradled lovingly in a butter bun. Old Port Lobster Shack you definitely filled that lobster-​shaped hole in my heart!

When coming to Old Port Lobster Shack, I always make sure to order The Double Play Lobster roll. But, before that, I always make sure to get a double prescription of Zocor before I do! Let’s face it, 2 buttery rolls filled to the brim with lobster meat and served with a side of french fries isn’t going to exactly lower my triglycerides. Might lower my HDLs though.

Anyway, the lobster rolls is utterly delicious here. They have 2 versions: The Maine Lobster Roll and The Naked. The Maine is made with the lobster mixed with Hellman’s Mayo. The other isn’t, but is served with a side of drawn butter (See. Told you the Zocor will come in handy). I like both, so why decide. If lobster isn’t your thing, they also have crab rolls, which aren’t as good, but still decent.
While my go-to’s are the Lobster Rolls, they also have different «chowdahs» like white clam chowder, red clam chowder, and lobster bisque. I typically like red clam chowder better, but both are decent options here. The bisque is equally as good.
As for pricing, mind you, this is still real lobster. It’s not going to cost $ 6.95. It’s about $ 20 a sandwich. Not cheap, but really, you aren’t going to be buying lobster rolls every week. Also, this location is in a food court. They do have minimal reserved seating for OPLS customers only, but there is tons of seating out in the main food court. It’s there that you can enjoy your frooffy, schmoofy lobster roll, while the guy next to you is eating his orange chicken from Panda Express.

Expensive but food is good! Their lobster and crab roll were a bit small and comes with an ice cream scoop size of meat, but it was good; their bread was also delicious. Their popcorn shrimp was a bit salty for my taste.

During lent, I gave up meat and rice, and there was one day where I absolutely NEEDED lobster. I just didn’t want to go to Red Lobster.
So I randomly took my brother out for dinner at this godsend of a food court location, and boy was I surprised. I didn’t know there were places in the food court that charged as much as $ 25 for a single food item.
I spent about that much on a lobster roll for my brother, another $ 25 on my lobster macaroni and cheese, and another $ 18 or so on some lobster bisque.
Like The Lego Movie so gleefully says, «Everything was awesome.» The sandwich was full of lobster. The mac & cheese was dangerously cheese and had its own generous portions of lobster, and the bisque was just so creamy – of course topped with lobster as well.
Not everybody is going to go crazy and spend $ 70 on a whim, but that was a damn good $ 70.

I don’t expect a lot from mall food. But I was starving and craving seafood, so I decided to try Old Port Lobster Shack.
I ordered the Maine lobstah roll ($ 17), which came with fries and a small container of coleslaw. The lobster in the lobstah roll was good, but with three bites, I was done! Granted, I didn’t eat the bread, but still, shouldn’t I have more than three bites of lobster for $ 17?! I will give them this though. The three bites were really good. The lobster was sweet and tender. The fries were okay and passable. Nothing to write home about. The coleslaw was awful. And it had raisins. Am I the only one that thinks raisins are a weird addition? Even without the raisins, the coleslaw was bland and watery.
So in all, my $ 17 mall meal didn’t really fill me up. Maybe I should have ordered the lobstah caesar instead. It was the same price. Hopefully if I ever come back, I’ll get more lobster for my money!

I’ve been meaning to try this place, although I’m not a fan of restaurants inside malls. Nonetheless, today we went there for lunch while at the mall and enjoyed it thoroughly. The customer service here is fantastic; the cashier was super helpful and very friendly. We even talked about an incident that I witnessed a few weeks back when some lowlife stole their tip jar! I like the fact that this place has its own segregated dining area with few tables and bar style seating, making it more of a restaurant than a kiosk within the food court.
I ordered the 3 piece fish and chips, as it’s been a while for me. It was very delicious and perfectly prepared with moist and flaked fish within crispy batter. The french fries were awesome, as well as the coleslaw that was included. My partner had the lobster roll, which was very tasty with a nice balance of mayo. I like how the thick bread was grilled and sliced down the middle, really helped consuming the roll without a mess. The lobster was very fresh and sweet. Several reviews complain about the portion and how pricey it is; I totally disagree as lobster is expensive and it should be expected unless you want the imitation crap. I will definitely come back if at the mall yearning fish.

Finally tried this mall rock star yesterday. I’m not much of a sandwich person. The few that I like I tend to revisit often.
This is probably on my number four list to revisit. I say this only because I’m on the fence about the price. I understand that lobster is one pricey meat. That they use real lobster meat. That you get what you pay for.
So– if I feel expensive and want to splurge on a sandwich then this will be my go to place. On most days I will always head to my usual top three sandwich places: Zanottos, Feshly Baked Eatery and California Sourdough. Because I’m cheap on most days. Asian gene working full speed ahead.
Their sandwich is nothing to complain about. It’s filled with lobster meat and really epitomizes the lobster role to perfection. Fresh roll loaded with fresh lobster meat. Awesome tasty golden brown fries on the side that also came with a small helping of cole slaw.
So come here when you’re in the mall and want to impress your date. Their properly prepared lobster role that’s sliced in the middle for your dates easy consumption. Makes for much less of a mess. A private seating area that’s cozy. Or choose the bar seating for the über up close and personal conversation.
I like the staff as well. One day their tip jar was invaded by a douche and ran away with the money. In full view of everybody. The poor girl was screaming for help. The bad douche jogged his way out to freedom away from the mall cop that showed 15 minutes after the third world crime. My thoughts on that? Did it really happened in that mall? I momentarily forgot where I was. Never in my life this type of crime happened in my vicinity.
Especially not where this rock star resides.
