Nickel City

I had fond memories of this place when I was young, so I figured I’d be optimistic and believe the reviews that said only 2 – 3 machines were down. A lot more than that were down, and many machines only had 1 of 2 players workable.
Place smelled like a locker room.
The games were all terrible. Bought $ 10 of nickels and struggled to spend half of them.
Terrible old games is one thing — you can’t make them stop being terrible, but you can make sure they work!

Great place. Most reasonably priced. The staff are really nice. There are a lot of free play old arcade games :)

I took my son here yesterday. We got in free by checking in on Unilocal.The rep also gave us 2 free admissions for the next time. We had a lot of fun here. A lot of the games don’t work, but there are some gems here. We played air hockey, shooting games, racing games, and my son had the most fun playing ski ball. I played some of the free games like Ninja Turtles or Street Fighter that brought back a lot of fun memories as a kid. The prizes aren’t that great. Seems like a lot of things you can grab at the dollar store, but who cares? The kids have fun playing, winning tickets and getting prizes. We spent $ 10 on nickels here and before I knew it, an hour and a half went by. The place is pretty beat up, but I think with a solid investment, some love and care, and a slight tweak in business strategy, this place can be the gem it once was again.

Super awesome. My son really likes this place. Don’t let the name fool you though, the games usually cost more than a nickel to play. But, to offset that, there are a lot of games that can be played for free. My son really loved playing the ticket-​generating games like Break the Bank and Smokin’ Token. There are some games here that are broken which is a little disappointing. This place is a fun way to spend part of an afternoon.

This place gets the job done. If you want to have some good, cheap fun and kill some time with your kids and like classic video games like Tetris, Burger Time, Arctic Thunder, Marvel, fighting games, then this is the place for you

Not going to waste my time at this place ever again. For one, its waaay too hot in there. For two, it stinks and is dirty. For three, half the games in the whole place are out of order and all of the games are worn out and falling apart.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is because I didn’t waste too much money being as its nickles (most of the games are not just a nickel, its actually 3 or more).
They need to stop being cheap skates, then the place would be a lot better.

This place is dirt cheap. A $ 5 bag of nickels and $ 2 entry fee will get you at least a couple hours of solid entertainment. That being said, you get what you pay for. Back when I was younger (and when Capcom owned this establishment), this was the best deal in town and it was much more maintained. Nowadays, I think they have given up. I’d say about 90% of the games are malfunctioning in some way. Around 40% are inoperable completely. Not very fun to play with a friend, as it’s almost guaranteed that one of the joysticks doesn’t work. Don’t expect a game newer than 2006.
I do like the free classics, but some have been broken for months. I don’t even think they have a technician. Some simple fixes like a burnt out CRT monitor don’t even get touched.
All that being said, I did spend a few hours there and I can’t complain about that.

One question, why would you have a rated r movie playing in the lobby of a kids arcade? Not like they haven’t heard the work fuck before, but I rather avoid them watching a movie in which one scene they manage to say it an uncomfortable amount of times.
Despite that, it’s a realistically priced arcade to take the kids for one/​two hours because it’s raining.

What happened? This place used to be a pretty fun place to bring the kids for some relatively inexpensive fun. I think the owners have just given up and are going to wait until all the machines break, then close up shop. I honestly counted more than 30 machines that did not work. Many not even turned on, and the rest with broken screens or «out of order» signs on them. There was an entire row of machines not even on. Then there are broken down machines just shoved into dark corners. Some machines haven’t worked in the 3 years we’ve been coming here. Which really makes me believe that they don’t repair anything.
I almost feel bad giving a nickel arcade a 1-​star review, because you don’t expect much from the get go, but this place has seriously turned into a total hole. When you turn off a 7 and 5 year old, you know you have problems (everyone knows how easy it is to entertain a 7 and 5 year old).
I could go on, but I think you get what I’m trying to say. We won’t be going back. It’s too bad, it used to be pretty fun.

The first time I came to this place was about 3yrs ago for my little cousins birthday party. All the games worked and the service was great. They had great deals for birthday parties or big group events. Since than I have brought my two girls three times and every time we come this place seems to get more and more pathetic and depressing. Half of the games don’t work and the ones that do work often times the machines are out of tickets so you have to ask for assistance to claim your tickets which usually takes about 10 – 15 min to be helped because there is only two employees in the entire building assisting all the customers. They do have classic games which I love like pax man, street fighter, donkey kong and those games are great to play here but only if they are not out of order which most of the time they are.
I DO NOT recommend this place for a group function, birthday party or too even bring your kids here to play. They will be disappointed.

I went there with my 4 yrs old boy to check out the arcade. The price is very affordable for his age especially he is new to play arcade, a good way to practice! I spent about $ 5 for two full hours, also checked in Unilocal offer to waive the admissions.
The place is kind of dark for a Sunday afternoon and there are a lot of machines… Although some are broken. There were games reminds me of my high school years.
I deduct one star due to the lack of lights and in door air flows, it got stuffy around 2pm due to too many ppl. I will go back but definitely on a slow day or less foot traffic hours.

This place has been here since I was a lil girl n I’ve never come here but we randomly came and it’s a lot of fun.
They have good parking. $ 2 admission fee (or check in to get free admission) & $ 5 & $ 7 bags of nickels. Lots of games but today a lot are out of order which is the only real downfall.

If you’re looking for an affordable place to spend an afternoon, then this is it. It’s not the most glamorous location or set-​up but it’s way more affordable than other arcades in the area, your money goes a lot further here.
They do have some free games that are old school that you probably haven’t played in years but I like that it’s a nice treat for the adults.
A lot of the games are older and heavily used… be aware there are a lot of games that are broken. I do wish they would mark them more clearly.
The prizes aren’t amazing but what places offers amazing prizes?
All in all for the very cheap admission price ($ 2 or $ 3 bucks) and nickel games/​free games it’s a cool little spot.

Service was great, as the employee was generous enough to supply me with an air fan for the DDR machine as soon as he saw that I was playing on it. I spent less than $ 5 on my first visit and plan to spend much more in the near future. You can bring your own nickels, or purchase them at the counter. Highly recommended for fans of arcades who are looking for the best bang for their buck!

This is a great place to teach your kids a life lesson.
Yes there are nickel games, and free games. There are also many broken games — including some that are broken and not yet labeled as such. The redemption games are about what you would expect, but the prizes are extremely limited in selection and mostly crap. It’s clean enough, it’s got some good games, some classic games, but it’s definately the retirement home for old games that are just chugging along to make a buck.
The life lesson: Take your kids here, let them experience it — then take them home and have them mow the lawn, do chores and save their money to go to Dave & Busters or Round 1. They will have a better time, and learn about value for their money.

This place does not have the cleanest and the most up to date games but come on most of the games cost a nickel, a NICKEL! It even has FREE games! If you are willing to pay a buck or more per arcade game then feel free to go D&B and spend a fortune. This is a true local mom and pop shop which wants to bring some affordable arcade games to community in this ever-​inflating area.
And yes quite a few of the games are out of order but you get what you pay for. I can’t complain. It’s a good place to practice arcade games and you can still walk out not empty pocketed.

I came here on October 4 around noon just to kill some time.
The quality of this place has gone down since I last visited. There were at least 10, maybe 15 games that were broken or just off, and the games look like they haven’t really been maintained. Some of the guns for the gun games are held with tape, and the guns aren’t even calibrated.
What happened to this place?

Good times! We decided to spend our Labor Day by feeding Jeffersons into Japanese made video game machines form the 80’s. Three stars because many of the racing games were boot paired, many games out of order with a sign, and some out of order with no sign (coin eaters). No skee ball. What makes up for the broken games are the free ones (Tetris, gem fighters and galaga)
No snack bar, but they have ice cream in a freezer and some vending machines. Place got pretty busy after 5.

I remember going to a punk show here back in the day, several years back, with my friend Aaron B. He and I have since parted ways, but the memories live on. Several bands played in the small adjoining room reserved for birthday parties and such. I had a rowdy, rockin’, moshin’ good time.
Fast forward to 2015, and this place is a powerhouse. Who would have thought that arcades would still be popular? Friday night at 7pm, and it was hoppin’. There were mostly kids and teenagers, but several older guys hung out in pairs, and a few other folks my age were playing the Deal or No Deal game.
Chad J. and I had just had an overly-​indulgent meal a few doors down at The Happy Bamboo, and he suggested we check this place out. I saw that they charge a $ 2 admission, which at first I kind of hesitated at. A charge to get into a place to pay more money for games? Okay, I was being a cheapskate, so Chad offered to cover my cover for me (what a gentleman). He also purchased a $ 5 bag of nickles for our gaming pleasure.
Just about everyone plays games these days, whether it’s online or on cell phones, on their Xbox or Playstation or whatever other consoles are hot right now. Obviously, I am not a gamer. I am so out of touch with that world. Back in my childhood years, I was all about the Sega Genesis. Gosh, those were the days.
Bittersweet nostalgia aside, I had a fun time here. There are plenty of free games towards the middle, the old-​school classics like Pac-​Man and Street Fighter. I had fun playing as Chun-​Li and kicking all of the boys’s butts.
The air hockey table was my favorite; I believe that costs somewhere around 25 – 50 cents. It got very competitive, but in the end, Chad won, 6 – 4. It was a close match, but I was a gracious loser and did not whine (too much).
We played more games: Dance Dance Revolution was exhilarating! While the game’s music selections were not the best, the faster techno songs proved to be very challenging and we both were sweating after «performing» four dances all in a row. I could have played this one all night! I think they may have had to wipe down the machines if that were the case, as the stomping around the machine considers dancing is quite the workout.
Several games also spit out paper tickets, which you can cash in for silly prizes: little plastic frisbees and trinkets and other assorted knick-​knacks. I say forgo all of the plastic crud and just opt for the candies. You probably won’t ever earn enough for the stuffed animals, although they are very, very cute. Bring a date here and let them attempt to win you one.
Several of the machines are old and don’t work properly (especially the Skeeball games). A handful of them have the sad «Out Of Order» sign pasted on. Most machines cost somewhere between 4 – 6 nickles, which is pretty darn cheap, so I don’t expect them to work on fixing the broken ones. I say just go here for the $ 2 entry fee, spend $ 5 – 10 on nickles, and then enjoy this blast to the past. It’s fun to feel like a kid again.

Arcade games for only nickels? How awesome is that. This is the second time I’ve been to nickel city and the novelty of the concept has only slightly worn off on me. Nickel city has pretty much all of the classics (sometimes for free!) and also relatively good prices on games for the
Regarding ticket games, they have all the common ones, and they’re not terribly difficult to win on once you know the tricks. But, the selection of prizes are pretty awful. They only have really cheap candy, extremely cheap looking toys and that’s pretty much it, for exorbitant ticket prices as well. I definitely wouldn’t recommend going for the ticket games. But for the classic arcade games, racing games, and cool shooters, it’s well worth the experience.
Another quick note, a lot of the machines get their coin slots stuck, don’t recognize credits, or ticket output stuck as well. Definitely not the best maintained shop especially when they’re understaffed and trying to help out people at the entrance, redemption counter and service machines. It’s just such a novelty shop though that I hope stays for at least a while!
