Nava Fathi, DDS

She deserves ten stars.
In November my son Max had an accident and knocked out an adult front tooth.
We rushed him to ER and they sent us on to an emergency dentist who re-​implanted the tooth.
Unfortunately the implantation did not go well and that dentist referred us to an endodontist. Things got worse as he probed the area without anesthetic (very traumatic for an 8 year old), really did not seem to understand what was wrong and couldn’t communicate with us. He did want to do a root canal though, even though he didn’t understand the situation.
We asked our usual dentist for a referral to an endodontist. This endodontist felt that a full root canal was required and a complex procedure as well (that she had only done twice) to close the root of the tooth. She wanted to start immediately.
We turned to Unilocal and found a great pediatric dentist (who I will also write a review for). She looked at the situation and referred us to Nava Fathi.
Going to Nava’s office was a completely different experience.
Nava has an excellent bedside manner with kids and Max was much happier. Rather than rushing into a root canal she carefully assessed that the tooth could be alive and that the infection might be above it.
She has a CAT scan machine in her office and that was able to show that the bone in front of the tooth had been damaged. That meant that the root canal probably wouldn’t be successful. She suggested trying to drain the infected site and a course of antibiotics.
Nava also connected us with a dental surgeon who was also excellent, good with kids and not rushing into doing anything. Able to explain the options clearly.
This worked (at least for now) and Max still has his tooth seven months on.
Nava has the right equipment (we didn’t see another endodontist with a CAT scan machine).
She is great with kids.
Going to Nava meant that Max avoided having at least three operations to have a root canal that would almost certainly have been unsuccessful.
She is connected to a network of other very competent dental professionals and was happy to use them to get the right advice.
She had every opportunity to persuade us to go for more expensive options and surgery but she recommended the right medical choice instead.
The bills for the CAT scan and consultation where reasonable and were way less than we would have paid to have the root canal done.
Every time we have seen her she has taken the time to explain and we have not been rushed at all.
All of the staff in the office were very nice as well.

I just would like to say I was impressed with Dr. Fathi !!!
She started my root canal yesterday… She gave me The numbing shots and it was the VERY BEST SHOT I HAVE EVER, EVER, EVER had!!!

I had a great experience and felt no pain. While I fortunately don’t have any other root canal procedures to compare this with, I’d give her a call if I ever needed to see an Endodontist in the future.

Dr. Nava Fathi is extremely talented at what she does. She handled my fears about having a root canal with a very calm and reassuring demeanor. She explained everything she did every step of the way. She has an excellent rapport with her assistant which made me feel calm. My recovery time was minimal and she explained the recovery process in detail. Every aspect of my experience was a pleasant one and I will recommend her to anyone needing endodontic services. Her office and treatment rooms are spotless and beautiful which added to the calming atmosphere that she and her staff embody.

I was referred to Dr. Fathi by my dentist to evaluate an old root canal for retreatment. She is super friendly. She answered all my questions and just puts me at ease (a definite plus when you’re about to get dental work done!). I only had some x-​rays taken and a crown removed, but everything was done painlessly. After removing the crown, Dr. Fathi told me I had 2 options: 1) Get the tooth extracted and put in an implant or bridge, or 2) redo the root canal, but at some point in the future, I would probably end up needing the tooth extracted. She could’ve been greedy and told me to get another root canal, since that would be more money for her. But instead, she recommended option 1 (which would not be done by her, but by an oral surgeon/​dentist). Good to know that not all dentists out there are just after our money!

Wish there were minus stars. my daughter had a very bad experience with Dr Fathi and shge was in the emergency room and hospital for 1.5 days. eventually the tooth was pulled at the hospital. Dr Fathi never completed the root canal and crown. I paid for this and it was never completed. They offered to refund the money but wanted my daughter to sign a waiver releasing them of any responsibility. she refused and Dr Faithi kept my money.

The quality of service was EXCELENT. The entire process was pain free with minimal discomfort. They used the jaw-​saver on me. The jaw-​saver (what I called it) was a rubbery wedge that kept my mouth open while relaxing my jaw muscle. This eliminated the horrible task of keeping my mouth open.
Dr. Fathi allowed me to relax and listen to my iPhone during the entire procedure. Dr. Fathi was more thorough in his diagnosis and treatment than any other DDS I have ever been to. I have been to more than 5 DDS in the past 5 years (due to moving to different cities).

They treated me like family. Everyone knew my name and seemed genuinely happy to see me throughout my visit. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and with enthusiasm. In addition to learning everything there is to know about my procedure, I also learned that Dr. Fathi’s wife is a dental professor. It turns out she was the professor for my regular DDS. Anyways, I would recommend Dr. Fathi to friends, family, and strangers!

The payment process was easy. The only reason why gave 4.5 stars was because I had to call my insurance company (Delta Dental) to force full payment. Apparently, the order in which the procedures were billed to DD caused a coverage issue. One call with DD solved the issue and Dr. Fathi’s office sent me a reimbursement check quickly.

Excellent experience. Service, manners, and cleanliness were EXTRORDINARY! I highly recommend Dr. Fathi and his staff.

When it came to needing a root canal I asked my oral surgeon to give me the name of an Endodontist he thought I would like. (I was not impressed with the Endodontist my regular dentist had referred me to in Redwood City.) It was well worth the drive (30 minutes) and I was very impressed with the exceptional care I received in the office of Dr. Nava Fathi. She listens to her patients and makes certain they are comfortable and not experiencing any pain during the entire procedure. Her staff is professional and concerned about their patients. They even called the next day to make sure I was alright!
In addition, Dr. Fathi asks patients to return 6 months following the procedure to take x-​rays and make certain everything is alright. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Nava Fathi for anyone considering having a root canal. I’m thrilled that I found someone who is outstanding and cares about ME and not their next game of golf.
