I still love this place. I’m really sorry the rent was raised. Guess they’re expecting more shopping because a Safeway is opening. Busy days are really horrible. Don’t bother showing up mid day to get your hair cut. You have people leaving, coming back and then expecting to jump in line even thou they left. By the way if you have a favorite person. Ask their name and ask for them again.

Called in at 920, and guy told me the wait would be 1 hour so I came at 10 to be a little early. It’s 11 and I’m apparently next in line. I’m sure the haircut will be good but you can’t waste people’s time like that.

Been coming here for the past several cuts and I must say I’m glad I decided to check them out. Probably the freshest cut I’ve gotten. The wait is often long because they take care of your hair and there is always a constant line. I would say go in the early morning midweek to avoid lines. I’ve had a few different of the ladies there cut my hair but I think the guys know your style better. Regardless they are all skilled and know what their doing. They use lots of different equipment and techniques including cleaning up your lines with a razor blade amongst others. Have not been disappointed and will continue to go back.

This place is my one of the best barbers around everyone has skills here, Linda is great at fades and everything else, she takes her time making sure it’s done right, she doesn’t rush to get to the next customer which is what most places do when they are busy and this spot is always busy from open to close.

Been procrastinating on writing a review for this place although I’ve been coming here for over 2 years now. Why? Because this place is BUSY as it is and I don’t like disclosing my secrets. There has probably been only 2 occasions when I didn’t have to wait. Sometimes the wait can be 1+hrs and there’s no appts taken. There are only about 10 seats in the waiting area so my routine used to be: jot my name down and browse the aisles at Fresh & Easy (which sounds like a whorehouse btw). Now that the whorehouse closed next door, I am left trying to kill time by browsing IG, FB, and catching up on my games on WWF.
I never request any particular barber because I’ve pretty much used every one of them and they are all legit. All of them cut very consistently and all take their time to give you a great cut. Steve the owner is Cambodian and his workers are either related or referred to by family members. The other ladies speak VN and all quite nice.
They take credit cards but prefer cash. Cuts are either $ 18 or $ 19 and has been charged both so depends on the barber and how they feel that day. LOL. If you do charge your cut, make sure you bring cash for the tip as that isn’t credit cardable (yes i made that word up). Not sure why but after my haircut the song «Staying Alive» from Saturday Night Fever always plays in my head. That’s the feeling I get and now I just shared two secrets with you in one review.

It’s the 21^st century, who doesn’t take credit cards? At least put some sort of notification it’s cash only

If you want to look and feel great, come here. They cut and fade my hair the way I want every time, I can’t say that for other places.
Prepare to wait awhile on the weekends.

Little backstory here. Moved back to San Jose in June and have been going through barbers like it was going out of style looking for someone to get my haircut right like my guy in SoCal did, it seemed like wherever I went they would always mess up on something. Not today and not with Kelly, she was well worth the wait and cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. Thanks and I’ll be back!

Mission barber offers more than just a haircut, they offer an experience with satisfaction. Been cutting here for the past two years, and rarely do they ever do a bad job. From what I learned… I prefer the guys cutting my hair because I feel like they have a better feel and knowledge in the hairstyles I want. Steve and the other guy barber who’s new and I forgot his name always gives the freshest clean shave cuts ever. The rAzer blade finish really does make an impact on the haircut. The fades that they do are on point and generally the line to get cut could be up to a hour +. I would recommend coming weekdays in the morning, especially Tuesday, Wednesday. Those times generally seem the least busy but regardless… You will be greeted with welcoming arms but the barbers. Also I appreciate the television with sports on while getting my cut/​waiting to get cut. Keep it up mission barber!

Slightly disappointed this second visit, EVER. This is the second time I have come for shave n cut and been let down. First time the cut was okay, the shave process was not worth the time or money. The gal used an electric razor, dollar shop razor, and very little straight.
This time same desires, only slightly better cut and DENIED my shave. The other guy was asked to shave me an refused. He said «I gotta go. «
Perhaps this is not the place for me. I have given you TWO tries.

Kinda sad that I have to update to a 1, but it’s only for one of the lady’s that works there. Next time, if I do decide to come in, I’ll get her name. I know it’s not the newer lady or Steve’s wife. Brought both my boys in to get cut. Both got a cut from 2 different ladies. One charged me $ 17, the other $ 16. What?! They both had the same haircut. Was it because I look young and look like I don’t tip well and she needed the extra $ 1? Maybe, but damn. I’ve always tipped close to 40% every time! I should have brought it up, but was in a hurry since I had all 3 kids with me. I definitely don’t want her cutting my son’s hair anymore if that’s how she wants to treat me.

I have been wanting to get my 14 month old a legit cut at a barber shop instead of a kid’s salon. After extensive googling, Mission Square seemed like a good choice.
This morning I loaded the kids up and headed over. I was a bit hesitant when I saw the amount of people waiting, but I figured that’s a good sign so we stayed. It was a 15 – 20 minute wait, nothing crazy.
Ben called my son’s name, and I asked him if he was comfortable doing a cut on a baby. He said he was, so I trusted him… and I’m glad I did! I showed him a couple pictures, one of which was a hard part with a comb over. I figured the hard part was probably not an option since it requires sitting still, and he agreed. My son was being really good and not too wiggly, so Ben said he wanted to try it. He insisted actually. I think it was his mission at that point! He managed a very clean hard part and a great cut on my son, and I’m so happy with his first real hair style. We will be back in a few weeks to get his cut cleaned up.
Major props to Ben for taking on this challenge! Five stars all the way!

I’ve never taken my son here and I usually leave haircuts to his dad, but if you want something done right…
I found this spot on Unilocal and liked the pictures so decided to give it a go. We put his name on the list and waited our turn. They are so detailed and meticulous, it’s definitely worth the wait and price. I don’t know anything about men’s haircuts so I just showed the woman a picture and she did her thing. My son fell asleep while she cut his hair and she still did an amazing job. Everyone there seemed to be really good, you can’t go wrong. I’ll be making this a regular stop for my son now that’s he’s outgrown the kids salon.

A lot of people complain about the wait but THIS HAIRCUT IS WORTH THE WAIT! And with any top notch barbershop especially in this part of the bay, you will have to wait at least an hour during busy times. get used to it!
Steve and dice are the guys that do it best! And kellly is one of the only girls I allow to touch my head !
Steve is so incredibly skillful and has built an excellent business based on good family values. Definitely the most respected barber in the bay.
Try calling ahead to see if it’s a good time or wake up early!
You aren’t the only person in the area who needs a haircut so expect to wait for the best.

Steve is the best. He gave my one year old son his first haircut and did a great job. Gave him a fohawk. My son did quite well also, he didn’t cry at all. It looked like he was actually enjoying the haircut lol. Steve is a true professional and is good at what he does. Thanks Steve for making my son look cuter than he already is lol .
If you have kids, and want to give them a nice haircut, Mission Square Barbers is the spot. They fix 8 dollar haircuts lol

Dear Steve,
Your staff changes often and it is still clear that the establishment doesn’t have a good system down for all of your clients despite the fact you have more than 4 or 5 stylists/​barbers.
Although it’s imperative for the client and barber to have a great relationship to look their best, waiting 1 – 2 hrs based on a first come first served basis is getting out of hand where people are just overflowing into the shop. Some folks disappear making the list longer and magically show up.
The barbers also look tired and rush through many of the clients. This is a great place since there aren’t many barbershops around in the area but you will risk losing a lot of customers shortly. I’ve waited 1:45 today at the opening time of the shop. Not the best use of Sunday and 7.8 people were gone then some showed up afterwards and made the list even longer.
Advice: invest in an appropriate appointment based system that allows your barbers to pace their clients and give customers the best experience.
You’ve raised your prices on cuts and then charge $ 1 for requests that most consider standard. Why? Times are never consistent and you can tell you are losing your long time clients slowly.

Found this place by a fellow Unilocalers check in and reviews of this place. I’ve been taking my two sons to different barbers over the last year and have finally found a place that always cut my boys hair right. The wait may be a little long but it’s worth the wait.

After coming here a few times I had to take my business elsewhere. I came to see Brian a few times and he usually does good work. Although … The few times I would go see him I would have to wait over 2 hours or more to see him.
Not to mention the times I would show up early so I can be first in line, Brian wouldn’t show up on time.
I’m this place does good work but I feel the customer service could be way better. For $ 20 a cut, there are other places that will do way better.
Also the card machine is always down so you have to go to the ATM in the grocery store next door and pull out money ($ 3 fee)
Sad to leave but I couldn’t take the halfass customer service anymore!

I’ve been to a lot of barber shops since I’ve chopped all my hair off but this barber shop tops all of them! Love the service and the vibe here.
When you walk in they have a little tablet by the door where you can add your name to the list. Be prepared to wait though cuz there are always a lot of people here who come to get their hair cut. I don’t blame em though. This place is amazing.
I’ve come here so many times not knowing what kind of style that I wanted but whenever I leave I’m always satisfied.
They really go out of their way to make everyone happy with their service. Love this place.
I would give them more stars if I could.
