Unfortunately, what started out as terrific deal, transaction, and experience, has turned into a poor investment.
Bob is a very nice guy and has an old fashioned way of doing business, but unfortunately, his product does not hold up. We bought a refurbished washer and dryer from Bob about six months ago, and we’ve already had problems with both. The igniter went out in the dryer, and now the washer is leaking all over our garage. Bob said that there was 90 day guarantee, which we were past, but also that if we brought the washer or dryer to his shop, that he’d fix it anytime no charge. Well, when I told him I would bring the dryer to his shop, he retreated and said he’d be happy to give me a discounted rate, not free. So, long story short, what started out as a $ 300 investment, has turned into a $ 300 investment plus two $ 100 service calls.
Bottom line: Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s worth the risk buying a refurbished product without a bigger store’s warranty. I was trying to save a couple hundred dollars here as rent is so expensive. If I could go back, I would have just bought something for $ 500 at Best Buy knowing that I’d have a one year manufacturer warranty and whatever else Best Buy offers.

What a crook. First he promises that he’s 95% sure about the issue with the appliance, then is generous enough to offer to waive the service fee if the appliance in somehow in the 5% chance that it’s some overcomplicated, unable-​to-​fix problem. Friendly, outgoing, professional.
Then he CANCELS on the scheduled appointment date (after numerous back and forth and we confirm that we’ll pay for the repairs and service fees if the mistake falls into 95%), saying that there’s on ACCIDENT on 85. It’s 10:18. He lives in Blossom Hill. The appointment is 10:30. He cites that the accident is apparently so bad that as soon as he gets on 85, he’s canceling because it’s too much work to apparently drive 10 – 15 minutes.
So we reschedule immediatly. Then he calls again to CANCEL the whole thing, because he regrets the promise he made of waiving a $ 69 service fee if he can’t fix it because he doesn’t want to lose money. Throw in some excuse about how busy he is. Cites how difficult it is to get out to West San Jose and not make any money without a service fee.
Says its too much work and he can’t handle it. Keep in mind he hasn’t even looked at the appliance… or even driven halfway to our home.
So busy that he regularly takes whole Wednesdays off.
It is a 20 minute drive from his house to our house with traffic. What a joke.

Bob is the goto man whenever I need my washer/​dryer repaired or replaced, he is very professional, courteous and very reasonable prices, he is the illuminati guy and has vast knowledge outside his profession too.

Absolutely as good as it gets. Old fashioned service at old fashioned prices. I will never buy new again! This is truly way better than new.
The washer looks great (way, way better than I thought it would at that price!), is massive, and most importantly works like washers used to work… I can’t ask for more!
My last two «matching set», front load, all electronic snazzy washers died way before their time. The first died after 4 years and the second after 1 year and 1 month. Then I was DONE. Never again am I buying a new electronic washer with «built in obsolesence». I Opted for an old fashioned, massive drum (can wash all those washable carpets now!) all mechanical washer and cannot be happier with the fabulous price, or fabulous service from McElligotts! Thank you!

I had issues with the dryer not heating up anymore. He was very responsive and was able to meet the next day. Bob worked with my schedule during my lunch hour to troubleshoot it and change the part the same day.

I just purchased a washer and dryer set from Bob today. The service he provided was fast, convenient and affordable. It literally took him 10 minutes to install the set and then test them.
He was very responsive to my phone calls and was able to deliver a set within 2 days (I am leaving for a trip in one day, and he understood the urgency).
Bob is friendly and reliable, and the set comes with a 90 day warranty!

I bought a used Kenmore washer and dryer from Bob and they have worked great. He was in and out in 30 min! Great deals if you don’t have a lot of money to spend and don’t need a brand new set. I highly recommend him.

Bought a used washer and dryer over two years ago from Bob. As you know, they still can break down. Unfortunately, he had a faulty part… but came back with a better one asap! Bob is also very upbeat and honest! I would highly recommend him.

We bought a refurbished Kenmore washer/​dryer combo from Bob last August for a very reasonable price. He delivered and installed them with utmost professionalism.
I had zero problems with the machines for 8 months now.
Bob was very responsive to my emails. The washer made a loud noise a week ago. I emailed Bob, and was willing to pay him to repair it, but through email, he found the cause of the noise, and explained to me how to prevent it from happening again.
Last note, I have a toddler. And we’re potty training these days, so I run the washer/​dryer daily. And they’re working perfectly.

I’ve got to say, probably the smoothest transaction I’ve made in a long while. Bob, of McElligott’s Appliances was able to set me up with a great refurbished washer & dryer set, with delivery and removal of my old set as well. The roommate and I are extremely happy with the new set, and can’t be happier with every step of the process.

Moved into a new house about a month ago and my roommates and I wanted to get a washer and dryer. I found a couple of Bob’s ads on Craigslist. I called him on a Sunday and was surprised to hear that he could come by in a few hours. He came on time and quickly set up the washer and dryer. He was great!
He gave us a 1 year, but since we don’t live in the San Jose area he said that we’d have to bring them to him. So far we haven’t had an issues, and I hope we don’t have any in the future!

I stopped by Bob’s place and even though they didn’t have a washer and dryer for me at the time I was assured a call back when they did. Not even two days later I got a call and a time for delivery/​installation. Bob came over and did the instal quickly and quietly (my son didn’t even wake from his nap!). Overall, very pleased with Bob and would recommend him to anyone else that is looking for a good used washer/​dryer at a great price.

The washer that McElligott supplied to us (a Kenmore 70) was questionably ‘refurbished’ and I think it ended up being a lemon at best. First of all, the washer would always need an additional spin cycle to drain out the water. Then, after six months of normal operation, not even filling the washer to capacity at times, the belt decided to give out thereby leaving us without a working washer. We called McElligott, fully willing to pay for service on the washer out of the warranty period and he decided to ignore repeated calls and send them to voicemail. I don’t really know what kind of business this guy is running, but I would trust a used washer or dryer on craigslist before I ever use him again.
I honestly hope that no one else gets duped into using this person.

Bob is extremely helpful and polite. He delivered a perfectly nice used washer to my house, sight unseen, and checked all connections to make sure things were in working order. As others have said, he checks to make sure the washer fills correctly, that both the hot and cold water work, that the washer agitates, and that everything drains without leaking. He is very thorough.
I even asked him to check to make sure that we had connected our dryer correctly (we already had one, didn’t buy it from him), and he checked for gas leaks, and put on a new vent hose for us – only $ 10 for that!
Great experience. The best part is that I simply called, asked for what I wanted, and he delivered it about 2 hours later. Seriously convenient. =)
Edit: Follow up, 2 years later. Washer still works. =)

Fantastic experience!
Our dryer was not getting hot and had been making weird noises for awhile. We were debating whether to just buy another dryer or have ours fixed but after calling Bob we decided to have him come and check it out. He said the problem was more than likely one of two things and sure enough it was! Not only was our dryer fixed in less than half an hour, but it is working like new and it was originally bought used!
Bob is super personable and handy!
We will absolutely recommend McElligott’s Appliances to all of our family and friends!!!

Aside from being a bit surprised at the location of the «showroom» I was impressed with the fact that Bob McElligott has been operating his business quite successfully as the second generation owner in the original location.
I followed leads for used washers and dryers on Craigslist for a week. After being worked over repeatedly by opportunists that collectively knew less than ten complete sentences in English and wanted to charge up to a dollar a day for warranties beyond a week I was just about to head for the Western Appliance scratch ‘n dent barn even though it wasn’t likely we could afford to buy anything there. Then I stumbled on the other Unilocal reviews for McElligott’s Appliances.
Bob and his crew were very easy going and showed me exactly what I’d been searching for at much better prices including tax, same-​day delivery/​installation and a 90 day parts and labor warranty.
I’m pleased I found McElligott’s Appliances. As I said the price was right and since I’ve repaired major appliances in a «former life» I can tell they did a very decent job refurbishing the machines. I think you’ll find McElligott’s a great source for pre-​owned appliances.

I was shopping for a replacement washer & dryer for our rental house. Our existing ones were old and didn’t work right. I wasn’t about to pay full price for brand new units. I was looking on Craiglist and came across Bob’s ad for refurbished ones, with warranty for just $ 350. This sounded great to me, so we called him and he said he would come out the next day.
Today Bob came to the rental on time, when promised and not only delivered the new units, but hooked them up and made sure they were both working before leaving. He also hauled away the old washer & dryer.
Bob is a VERY friendly guy, and I can’t recommend him enough. He is both very honest and efficient. You can’t go wrong here. I am a VERY happy customer! 5-​Stars!

Found Bob’s appliances services via craigslist when it became clear that my washer had to be replaced as it was leaking water all over the garage floor. Even though I was a little worried about getting a used appliances, I felt a little reassured after checking his feedback on Unilocal,and talking to Bob about his warranty: 90days. Basically, delivery and installation are included in the price of his washer (which you can get for under $ 180), and he makes sure that both the hot and cold water settings work and the load drains properly before leaving.
You can go and pick out a used appliance or you can trust Bob to bring a decent one via a phone order. Bob charges $ 10 to haul away a malfunctioning appliance. Bob’s pretty efficient and everything was done in less than 30 min, and Bob even cleaned up the exess water with his own towels. His service is great! I would definitely recommend him.
I’ll update my post when I run more loads through my new washer this weekend.

I found Bob through craigslist today and I was very impressed. I was shopping around for a good deal on a washer and dryer. I tried a few places on craigslist before I called him. As I was leaving the other used appliance store not sold with the value, I called Bob. He answered the phone and told me he would be available in a couple hours and when we arrived at his house he was ready for us. he had many clean washers and dryer set. They were all very clean and much less expensive than the other stores. He could really charge more. I bought one in less than 5 min.
He delivered the machines, installed them and tested them within an hour of my wife and I meeting him.
Great Value. Great service. Really great experience if you don’t mind that Bob’s store is his garage.
Bob guarantees his machines parts and labor for 90 days and I believe him.
