I do not know what happened to my favorite Mexican spot. We were there last night the chips were stale salsa still good. We order margaritas lets just say it came in s water glass and she put sangria in it they were bad. Then we ordered chimichanga it came to table like a taco salad open on top and they put the salad that comes on the plate inside it. My chicken soup which is great had a sad thigh tomatoes celery onion and a very fatty broth. Never going back bad food bad service. Have to find New Mexican place.

The salsa and chips were good. the beer was good, nice place. but the food SUCKED! How is there no flavor coming out of a wet burrito? Not to mention the wet burrito was HELLA dry. tasteless food. you can tell this place really doesnt care. Also no passion or enthusiasm in service. Good luck

Definitely a hole in the wall gem! Met up with friends here and right away Roberto was cracking jokes and making us feel welcomed! Ordered carne asada and carnitas tacos since they were freshly made. Food comes in big portions and the free chips and salsa will get you full! My friend ordered the plate which was huuuuge! Now the drinks, for sure am coming back for their Cheladas! Made to perfection! Roberto makes them so yummy!

This place is right in my neighborhood hidden away. Its small in the from the outside but long and narrow once inside. I wanted something to go and was not in the mood of for the Asian restaurants that are all around in the area. I didn’t know what to do(there wasn’t anyone to greet me or directions to seat myself) so I asked for a menu and had a seat. A nice gentleman asked if I wanted chips and salsa. And he obliged to my togo order(Super burrito with chicken). I was told it wasn’t going to be chicken breast… I wasn’t expecting it to be. I thought the comment was kinda weird. I’m Latino so it was weird getting told that, maybe I don’t look it. It took less than 15 minutes to take my order and for me to be outta there which was nice. I get home and there is literally a newborn baby size burrito greeting me with a side salad. I thought it was weird that all the toppings(sour cream, guac, cheese) were outside the burrito but alas the chicken blindsided me. It has been slow cooked and/or shredded in a savory rich sauce. It reminded me of Thanksgiving turkey with gravy. I obviously couldn’t eat all of it but this is a good place to get a some Mexican food when you’ve got the urge.

Dude what happened to this place?! This was my favorite place to go when I wanted some comfort, homemade, authentic Mexican food which basically means this place WAS bomb. I come here often and every time, the food and service are on point but today the servers were a #mess. I ordered fajita plate and the plate wasn’t even hot or sizzling… and the steak had teriyaki sauce on it. One of our plates got sent to another table and we also got someone else’s order instead of our plate… the place was not even packed. Lastly they were playing disco music… Guess I have to find a new spot.

Ordered an asada burrito from here yesterday, since I was in a hurry I got it to go. Ate it at home about an hour later and it was still pretty good. I especially like the spices on their steak. They slow cook it in hot sauce from what I’ve heard and anyone who knows me knows I love spicy foods. My biggest complaint about my burrito is that it had way too much lettuce in the middle. I would be taking full bites of just tortilla and lettuce, not something I really enjoyed very much. Ended up taking out a lot of it to be honest. The service is also something to be desired. All I got was a nod after thanking the guy who handed me my food and it seems like most of the employees like to avoid new customers. A bit disappointed with my burrito, but it was still good. I’ll probably end up giving this place another shot.

I’ve been a regular customer for at least 15 years and this joint used to be my favorite. Hand’s down, their salsa is the best in San Jose. There are also too many favorites for me to name off. With that being said, the business is just not the same since the owner died a few years ago. My understanding is that it’s currently being run by her children. Both food quality and cleanliness are way down. They are consistently understaffed and I feel bad for a couple of the waitresses and how they are treated. Plus, their bar is not regularly stocked. The only reason I give this three stars is for the previous good years, otherwise it would be a solid two.

«No le pidas peras al olmo” – Mexican Proverb In an intersection that has x3 Phở houses, x2 Bánh mì shops and an Asian Supermarket, Lupita’s sticks out like a sore thumb. They are the only bastion of hope if one is looking to satisfy their Taco Tuesday craving while in this area. I actually used to come to Lupita’s many years ago for breakfast, when I had a boss who loved to eat breakfast. However, as of late, I’ve been coming to Lupita’s mostly for lunch. They’ve never been what I call«authentic» Mexican food, as they definitely serve up a Gringo version of your typical Mexican fare. Normally, I would avoid places like this, but Lupita’s always had one thing going for it that always drew me in: Fresh, Homemade Corn Tortillas. I’m a sucker for them, and I’m more than willing to put up with subpar food just to get some. Unfortunately, my last visit was so beyond mediocre that I doubt I’ll be back again. I ordered x3 Tacos(Lengua, Carnitas, & Al Pastor): Lengua– This was the best of the bunch: Soft, tender and full of beefy goodness. For a moment I thought I was in ESSJ… Carnitas– Dried-out, bland and definitely not«authentic.» If you’re going to serve up this slop, the least you could do is fry it up and make it a bit crispy. At least I’d get something out of it? Al Pastor– Tasted old, and a bit livery? Not sure what this was, but probably the worst Al Pastor I’ve ever had. Toppings– Cilantro and onions. That’s it. No salsa. No nothing. Oh, wait… They did throw a handful of tomatoes on my Carnitas. Probably in a desperate attempt to add moisture. It didn’t work. Tortillas– Usually the one thing that makes a trip to Lupita’s worthwhile was sadly pretty blah. I’m not even sure they were homemade anymore? If they were they were made 2 – 3 days beforehand. Not good. #fail Service & Ambiance– The location is pretty bad, as the street and parking lot they’re located in is in terrible disrepair, and full of homeless living in RVs. The service was really bad, as well. Took forever to get menus, let alone place the order. After dropping off our food the waitress was in the wind like a bandito. Value– Tacos were a bit on the high side at $ 2.50/ea, but they were pretty loaded up. However, value means nothing when the taste isn’t there. I’m actually a bit sad writing this review, because I used to like this place. If I had written this years ago it would’ve been at least a 3, or possibly 4, star review. Now I can barely justify making it a 2-star. For those reviewers that jock this place as «legit,» you really need to get out of the house more. Seriously. I guess if you’re in the area and just *have* to have some Mexi, then I say go for it. «I guess it won’t kill you» is the nicest thing I have to say.

I had the super quesadilla. By far the best quesadilla I’ve ever had. Tender meat packed with flavor.

Man this place is hella bomb. I love the super micheladas and everything else I can pretty much eat. It’s closest to my apartment so it’s very convenient. They always seem to be open too. What more could you ask for? Good drinks, good food, and close by. The best waiter is Robert!

Well it looks like Lupitas must have paid to have my review filtered. Their customer service sucks when they’re actually attentive to their customers and there was a roach in the restroom last time I was there. It’s like they hate everybody that walks in the door but really they should be upset themselves when it comes to sanitary issues. The food is OK but I will never go back, don’t trust them! No Bueno!

got a chicken chimichanga craving, and dang it was good. the guac was fresh, wrap was light & crispy, chicken was flavorful & moist, and they make their own corn chips, which they even give with to-go orders, quite a good deal.

I was brought here for a lunch meeting last week, and at first I was a bit skeptical, as the exterior and décor seemed kinda dive-ish, but the waitstaff where personable, portions where huge and the food tasted great. I was not able to finish my meal, which is a rare occurrence. Will definitely come back

I find this place to be legit. I loved the fry on the chips, the salsa was fresh and had some kick to it, and their lunch special was affordable and hearty. The Chimichanga had what I believe to be a machaca inside, and it was beautifully moist and succulent with a great smoky flavor. I highly recommend it. This place has an authentic feel, a fully stocked bar, and turns your order over quickly. I will definitely be back! 4 Stars.

Stopped in around 11 just before the lunch rush since I had time to kill at school. There salsa to me is on point had my nose running a little really good amount of spice and flavor, Ordered #21 I believe ! chicken enchilada with a steak crispy taco. Huge plate of food everything was piping hot. I enjoyed every bite the chicken was juicy could of used a little more enchilada sauce but I dumped some salsa on it and it was ok. Would diffinetly go back… no complaints here and one happy stuffed customer!

Good hearty, tasty food, and friendly service. The home-made white corn tortillas are to die for, be sure you order them as your choice, even if they do take a bit longer! Clean ambience and well-stocked bar. Only reason I take away a star is because our waitress, who happened to be the mom of one of the workers, did not know the menu well at all, we asked about the spice in the mole sauce and she had no idea(nor did her son), and when I also asked if another dish came with onions, she did not know that either. A little more training and the place will be top-notch.

Had the chilequiles with red sauce! The best! Came with beans and rice! Great taste! My friend ordered a breakfast plate and I noticed she got fresh corn tortillas made by hand! I love handmade tortillas! My friend shared of course! This place has a great atmosphere! Clean floor and tables! That’s one of my pet peeves is cleanliness! Gave this place 5 stars because it met all my expectations!

I have been coming to Lupita’s for years. If I did this review like 3 years ago it would’ve been a solid 4.5 stars. I think it has something to do with food costs. Prices go up and food quality goes down. But that’s not a fact just my opinion. Who knows why the food isn’t as good as it used to be. So with that said Lupita’s is one of our go to places when all else fails. Except for lunch time. Lupita’s has a lot of businesses near by and gets busy for the lunch rush. Other than that its usually slow and service is pretty quick. My fiancé usually gets the enchilada Mexicana’s. But beware it comes with French fries. She always subs them for rice. I on the other hand always switch it up. The sopes are good, the enchilada suizas are good, and the list goes on. Overall it’s a good place to go to. Nothing fancy but I think it’s worth a shot. I would recommend this place.

This place is delicious! I am always looking for solid mexican food/sit down dinner and this is one of them. I live on N Capitol, therefore it’s very convenient to my home. I ordered: Enchilads Nuevo Mexico(I think that’s what it’s called?), one chicken and one cheese. It comes with rice, beans, and a salad(thousand island dressing). It was very good! Good portion size, definitely didn’t finish the whole thing. My BF got a chile verde burrito with green sauce over the top. I had a bite of his, also delicious! We also got a side of guacamole, which was a small portion, but super fresh. Their salsa is super spicy, but really flavorful. We also got margaritas, which were great. The staff, is one woman running the whole show! Bartending, waiting, running up the bills etc. She was very tentative and fast. I was definitely impressed. Will be going back here.

Want to lose 10lbs without dieting or exercising? Go to Lupita’s, where you’ll throw up everything you ate due to food poisoning! I ordered the carne asada nachos, a ginormous plate of fresh tortilla chips, topped with carne asada, mozzarella cheese, guacamole, sour cream and plenty of jalapenos. Looks delicious, right? I thought so too, until I saw it the second time that night, coming back up(TMI). I was only able to finish half my food, since the portions are so generous, and took the rest home to snack on later. After a few hours, I began to feel incredibly ill, with an awful stomachache and unbearable nausea. I threw up 4xs that night. And lost 2lbs! Woohoo! I didn’t even have to go to the gym. Only a few more visits to Lupita’s, and I’ll be ready for my upcoming trip to Hawaii!
