Specialties
We offer the taste of Mexico the «taste of Tradition.»
Our specialty you ask? Authentic hand made traditional tamales.
Tamales have been a meal on the go in Latin America for thousands of years, kind of like a sandwhich is to North Americans. They are an edible tradition passed on from generation to generation. They can be made of pretty much anything you like. Lucy learned to make tamales from her mother and her mother from her mother and so on.
We offer 5 types of tamales on a daily basis (Pork, Chicken, Jalapeño & Chesse, Sweet, and corn). Our tamales take aproximetly 8 – 9 hours to make/cook from start to finish. Slow is the only way to go. Many of you who have made tamales in the past know it is a very tedious process. Save yourself the hazzle and the mess drop by and pick up a dozen (or two) today.
Let your taste buds be the judge of the «Best Tamale of Silicon Valley» two years in a row.
History
Established in 1995.
My mother Lucy was a stay at home mom while we (her three children) were growing up in San Jose. My father worked in construction building most of the overpasses you see on 101 from San Jose to San Francisco he even worked on the Bay Bridge after the Loma Prieta Earthquake. With only his income and a mortgage, car payments etc. my mother wanted to do help out financially around the house.
She began making tamales the way her grandmother taught her in Durango Mexico. Selling them door to door, at schools, at store parking lots and dragging us along with her. Soon it became evident that people really liked her tamales and at the time there was no businesses in San Jose were you could walk in and get fresh tamales.
A few months later Lucy’s Tamale Factory was opened!
