Had the campechana de mariscos was really good my wife had the caldo de camaron and man on both they were prawns not shrimp. Most definitely coming back

Love the salsa and chips. Pozole, menudo, albondigas, enchiladas are on point. I also really liked the chilaquiles for breakfast. Service is slow but the yummy food makes up for it. This is now one of my go to Mexican spots.

Mediocre Mexican food. Plenty of other Mexican food places that are much better in the area.

I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while, so when we were headed to SJC airport to pickup grandma, we stopped in to get our taqueria on.
Ordered the machaca. YES.
Bro ordered the cheese enchiladas. SAME.
Place has a lot of parking — lot + the street. Is clean. Very nice.

This is a little Mexican joint in the heart of San Jose. The atmosphere was nice and my burrito was decent, but there was just too much wrong with this place for me to award it a decent review. First, the salsa was way to spicy for the average person. I personally love spicy food, but when my company is not pleased I won’t be please either. They had two more options, but one was labeled «habanero»… so you tell me if the average person would be able to handle that? Second, the only water option they had was littered with cucumber flavor. I know some people would enjoy this, but not me. Third (and I know this may be a stretch) why are additional baskets of chips and salsa extra? Lastly, it was WAY too pricey. If your are going to be a pricey Mexican place you should not be charging for extra chips and salsa. We were pulled to this place for the free margarita with a check in. Please do not do the same… find another place!
P. S. — they do not have queso dip

I don’t want to be a downer but this place has messed up my order 4 too many times for me to just stay quiet about it. The food is unbelievably good, but I always get different ingredients in my breakfast burrito. I’ve had to had it sent back twice. Two other times, they overcharged me (once for an additional large agua fresca that I didn’t order or receive, once for the wrong dish that cost $ 4 more). For me, consistency and price accuracy is a big deal, and unfortunately this makes me question coming back on a regular basis.
If they can improve these flaws, it would be a 5 star restaurant.

This use to be my spot until the lady with the thick black eye brows and glasses opened her mouth. She was very rude and has a huge attitude. She should not be working in the service industry. She’s very unhappy to be there and needs to go else where with that attitude. I asked for bbq chicken and she gave me barbequoa instead. I also asked for some salsa because I usually get salsa with my order and she told me to get my own over there. You’re better off going to the taco truck, because it’s not worth coming here anymore. The end.

I’ve had Las Cazuelas on my radar for a while after reading so many positive Unilocal reviews. I happily report that the hype is true! Unilocal scores again!
My boyfriend and I have been here a few times in the past month. So, my own review is definitely due.
I love that this place makes its own tortillas. So many store bought tortillas — particularly corn tortillas — are so mealy that they fall apart really easily. The tortillas at Las Cazuelas are thick, tasty, fresh and made the RIGHT way.
The portions are very filling, and they keep the fresh chips and salsa coming while you wait for your order.
I really enjoy the chocolate chicken mole because it’s made fresh and has almost burnt aftertaste to offset the sweetness that I find typical of well made chocolate mole.
My boyfriend prefers the chile verde super tacos because they are very filling AND really yummy. They also only cost $ 3 each, and after eating only two he’s already full. Score again for value, Unilocal!
The bartenders make some killer margaritas, and the beer selection is solid.
Overall, for the money and quality, Las Cazuelas hits all the right spots without emptying your wallet.

Las Cazuelas is home to slightly overpriced food, customer service that is lacking, and a nice front porch to take in the surrounding area.
I ordered Arroz Con Pollo ($ 12.95), one Chicken Tamale ($ 3.75), and Flan ($ 3.50). Prior to my main course being brought out, I snacked on some of the complimentary chips and salsa, which were okay (³⁄₅ stars). As soon as my main course was brought out, I tackled the chicken tamale first, and I’m happy to say that the masa was moist, and the chicken was flavorful (⁴⁄₅ stars). Regarding the arroz con pollo, it was everything the chicken tamale was not; the entire dish needed extra spices added to it, and it looked like it was thrown together in a hurry, even though I was one of only two customers inside of the main portion of the restaurant (²⁄₅ stars). The flan was easily the worst part of my meal. My server never brought out my flan, so I had to go to the register to ask another lady to bring it to my table when she had a chance. Furthermore, when the flan was brought to my table, it was in a square plastic container, the type of containers you see at grocery stores that hold almonds and dried fruit… WTF??? I only finished half of the flan because it was stiff and tasted cheap (1 star).
Regarding the customer service… …I was only greeted when I walked up to the counter to order my food. And, when it was time to leave, I walked past the two female employees talking near the entrance and I said «Thank You,» which they noticed and then quickly mumbled something in my direction, and then went back to talking to each other. Greeting a customer when they enter a restaurant, and thanking a customer when they leave a restaurant, is the standard type of respect you give a paying customer in downtown San Jose. Hopefully the ladies at Las Cazuelas improve on this.
Due to the mediocre food and poor customer service, I won’t be back to this restaurant.

An adorable place to look at and yes, #14 chicken enchiladas are the absolute best!!! We will be back for sure! The staff is so friendly and everything is do clean and cute

First time here, would come back again. I ordered a regular carne asada burrito and it was pretty good. Nothing bad I can say about it.
The atmosphere was pretty chill, I enjoyed sitting outside and enjoyed the music they were playing. Service was efficient.

Ummm… DELICIOUS! I love that this place definitely makes it worth the drive. They have very good portions, give out chips, and allow you to pack your own salsa. Who doesn’t love chips and salsa?
I’m picky about my Mexican food and can’t find any good taqueria’s out this way. I love coming here but my husband hates the drive. He’s sweet and picks it up for us anyways. I think he really likes the way they make the carne asada. So good! They messed up a few times but nothing we couldn’t handle. We are all human, no harm in that!

Stopped in for a something to eat after a concert across the street at SLG. Got the #14, Chicken Enchiladas Suizas combination plate.
I can’t speak for any other items on the menu, but these were two of the best enchiladas I’ve ever eaten. No exaggeration. The refried beans were decent, the rice was good, the salsa nice & spicy — but seriously, the enchiladas were absolutely amazing. Would come back. Nice little taqueria with friendly service, Sábado Gigante on the TV, and amazing enchiladas for a reasonable price. Can’t beat that.

This place was OK. For the amount of space and parking this restaurant has, I was honestly expecting better quality food and service. When I asked for a little more sour cream because we (my boyfriend and I) got enough sour cream for one taco, they said an extra dollop costs 95 cents. Seriously? Good service goes a long way. Anyway– I also don’t particularly like Refried beans in my tacos– I felt like this place skimped on the meat. Overall the food wasn’t that bad but the next time I get tacos, I’m not headed to this place.

Absolutely great food. I only wish the service was a little faster. Overall awesome experience.

This review is long overdue since I come here about once a month. By far my favorite Mexican restaurant in San Jose.
The food is always fresh and delicious, and they have the best sangria I’ve ever had at any restaurant.
The servers are always polite.
The patio is beautiful with lots of seating.

Another hidden gem of a taqueria! I was doing a paint nite across the street at the Art Boutique and the event suggested bringing dinner over from Las Cazuelas and I’m glad they did! Normally I’d go for a carne asada burrito but today I was feeling the carnitas (I think I saw a pic of it on Unilocal and I became fixated on it). It was one of the better carnitas that I’ve had — sometimes it’s too salty for my liking but this one was just perfect.
The guac was really gooood. Apparently they run out of it sometimes? That would have been a major bummer. Salsa was on point too.

I have been working in the Rose Garden area lately and, hence, exploring the local food scene at the same time. One day my cohort and I decided that it was time to add some Mexican to our diet. After doing some Unilocaling, we decided on Las Cazuelas (LC) to feed our Mexi-​Jones. I’m not entirely sure why we chose LC over the other options, but I’m certainly glad we did. We’ve been here three times over the last few weeks and, since my job is wrapping up, I thought this would be the right time to review.
Tortillas– As soon as we pulled up, I saw a sign touting «Hand Made Tortillas». This is always an excellent clue as to whether a Mexican place will be authentic or not. The tortillas were very good, but not as good as my favorites at Lupita’s or Casa Vicky. 4*
Salsa Bar– They have three kinds of salsa: Hot, Hotter, and Holy $#¡+. If you can’t handle the heat, I’d recommend sticking with the chunky Red Salsa as it’s on the lower end of burn-​o-​meter. Personally, I don’t care but I’m sure somebody might. So, consider yourself warned. 4*
Super Tacos– I ordered three of LC’s Super Tacos and that was one too many – those bad boys are fat! Two would be the perfect amount and, at only $ 3/​each, they’re a fantastic value. I ordered the Barbacoa, Carnitas, and Chile Verde. Out of the three, I’d say the Chile Verde was the hands-​down winner. 4.5*
Shrimp & Octopus Cocktail– I ordered this during a recent heat wave and it really hit the spot. It was cool, refreshing, and packed with meat. The menu only states Shrimp, but if you ask, they’ll throw in the Octopus (aka Pulpo) at no additional charge. My only qualm with this dish is the high price tag; at $ 15/​large it’s a bit over-​priced, but at least they didn’t skimp on the good stuff. 3.75*
Chicken Mole– Very good rendition of this classic Oaxacan dish – not as good as my current champ of El Tule, but still quite good. They only have the standard Mole Negro, which is made with Chocolate and Chili Powder (amongst numerous other ingredients!). LC’s Mole has a nice, strong flavor that just teetered on the edge of burnt, but brings it all together with that nice sweetness at the end. 4*
Drinks– LC has a nice selection your typical Hispanic drinks (e.g., Watermelon Water, Horchata, etc.); cervezas; and some Margaritas that look pretty good but, unfortunately, I was on duty while I visited. I have to give props to LC on their sodas though. As an avid soda junkie I really appreciate a place that has a fountain soda machine that allows you to refill it yourself, and this is especially rare for a Mexican place. 5*
Service & Ambiance– The service at LC is always sound and the staff very friendly; no complaints here. LC is located in a bit of a dubious area, but the store itself is clean and comfortable. There are several TVs that are always playing the latest Telenovelas, which are always amusing – in more ways than one! 4*
Value– This is LC’s one weak spot: while some things are a good value, others can be a bit on the pricey side. However, they do serve up quality food, so you are getting what you paid for. 3.5*
LC is a nice find in an area not usually known for their Mexican food. While I wouldn’t drive out of my way to come here, I would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area and looking for good quality, authentic Mexican food. ¡Arrrrriba!
