Kgo Newstalk Radio Am 810

The new generation KGO is a joke. Armstrong and Getty is plain annoying, and their sound quality is weird and very uncomfortable. Except Ronn Owens, everyone else is not worth listening to. The station is killing itself. Give one star, because there is no zero.
I am deleting it from my car!

Gave it a week — had enough! Format sucks starting with those two buffoons in the AM.

Have listened for 20+ years. It’s gotten worse! Very few shows I can stand to listen to anymore. Nights and weekends are the worst. Infomercials, really? Never liked each and every show host but could stand to listen as they would have listeners call in. Why when you have a host like Drex for instance isn’t it his show? Why would you have some ditsy woman constantly interrupt? It is very annoying. If you have female co hosts can you at least find some mature women?
For now I turn in to Ronn, as I know when he’s on. I do like Brian Copeland, don’t know when he’s on.
Is there someplace to find out when Pat Thurston, Christine Craft, Maureen Langam and JenniferJones Lee are on air?

I’m giving the lowest review for this radio station due to its management’s actions under the severely idiotic guidance of Cumulus Media and its ilk. Many if not most of regular radio listeners of the SF Bay Area and around the beautiful state of California have lost an icon of greatness with its beginning before WWI. It is in the last 30 – 40 years that this station’s call letters were known for their news and content. All the award winning and outstanding performance has now been silenced. Justin Wittmayer should have resigned in protest.

KGO sucks, it was a great channel and then management wrecked things in 2011 and went all news. They finally get good talk going again and Bam the f-​up again.

How is Chip Franklin on the air? Unbelievable this guy gets paid to blab about nonsense for 3 hours! His voice is like nails on a chalk board, can’t stand to listen to him. He is so out of touch with reality it’s comical. I listen to Ron but as soon as Chip comes on I have to turn off KGO.
When a caller says something Chip doesn’t agree with he cuts them off or over talks them or just plain hangs up!!!
His words like REDNECKS, KNUCKLE DRAGGER, and WHORE is just NOT right.
Fire this idiot immediately!
Truly unbelievable KGO employs this man.

I love KGO 81 and have listened for more than 30years.

I used to listen faithfully to KGO radio until they did a
wholesale personality cleaning and fired virtually
all the on air talent except Ronn Owens who I will
listen to occasionally. My problem with his show is
that it has so much advertising. It will start about 6
minutes past the hour and then at 12 minutes past
they launch into about 5 – 6 minutes of advertising.
Then back and forth between talk and ads. I would
bet these is more advertising than talk every hour.
I find this so distracting and as such rarely listen
to him and almost never to the other hosts.
Cumulus totally destroyed a great station by
their actions since purchase. Too bad they did
not know to leave well enough alone. From
what I read, they are suffering mightily
for their arrogance.

Ronn Owens is the only bright spot left. Why are the exact same news snippets played throughout the day? And why is Kristen Hanes, with the most annoying voice and delivery, still on the air? Nobody else on radio or TV tries to distinguish themselves with such an offputting delivery.

Up through the mid 80s KGO was an issue driven talk radio station that had multiple personae addressing topics with their own personalities.
In the late 80s there was a shift in media direction to cater and factionalize audiences by behavior, and therefore cater not to issues for audiences, but to audiences who had perhaps skewed thinking and energy enough to make issues seem worse than they were.
A lot of this came around with a realization from health experts in the government that there was a large demographic in mainstream audiences whose thinking was perhaps different from most everyone else’s.
Therefore KGO placates to an audience that is «less calm», to put it politely.
I remember the shift in programming when fewer and fewer issues were being presented, and the ads on the radio seemed to be more of a tabloid nature. This was around 1986 or thereabouts (perhaps a year or two earlier). Then the station shifted more and more in the 90s, until I could no longer listen to it.
KGO currently placates to a variety of audience members who have issues, and operates hand in hand with health experts to see that issues relating to that said same audience.
In other words, the audience KGO addresses are not mainstream people, but people who have issues. That includes that casual listener who may be outraged about something, or feeling guilty about something. KGO, in fact and essence, is now designed to be an outlet to ease psychological burdens and as an investigative tool to tease out troubled members in society.
That’s true of a lot of media now, and much of it is design to ease tensions between social circles.
How unfortunate.
Ergo it’s why you don’t hear real issues being discussed much anymore. It’s why the War on Terrorism doesn’t get much coverage, it’s why when China or Russia breaks more international agreements, you don’t hear much of it, or it gets superficial coverage.
Two things will happen; someone will fill in the gap, or someone, a lot of someones, will get fed up eventually, and shift the nation back to a less demarcation of media populations.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Love Ronn Owens but everything else is pretty bad. I swear this station has more commercials than any other AM news station out there. Every time I turn on 810 it’s a commercial with that terrible Australian accent guy from system pavers.

Used to love KGO — listened whenever I can. Loved Pete Wilson and was shocked when he died during the surgery. Loved Gene Burns, Dr. Bill, Dr. Edell, Ray Tillem, Ronn Owens, Money Talk, Gadget Talk, Dining Around and countless other reporters. Now I stopped listening cold. End of Golden Era of News Talk. RIP

I used to listen to KGO all the time. Then a couple of years ago, in someone’s infinite wisdom, they got rid of the most interesting hosts & went to news. Now, I choose not to listen to KGO. Too bad.

Really hate the direction that KGO went a couple of years ago. They pretty much fired everyone, save for a few personalities.
I can only listen to Ronn Owens for so long before I snap off the radio and am glad that Dr. Bill Wattenburg (Whattajerk is more like it) is gone –glad that I don’t have to hear his annoying know-​it-​all opinion anymore.
This is the station that had that pervert Bernie Ward on it so in an odd way this station has always been interesting. Karel got fired after having an on-​air (didn’t know it at the time LOL) hissy fit but is back. I like his show, but again –after a short time I find myself tuning out b/​c he never stops interrupting!
To me, this station died after Gene Burns was fired (why the hell they ever did that is beyond me… the man was one of the best). I called and spoke to him once and loved hearing his opinions and discussions on the air. As a long-​time listener I knew he had a long history of health problems & I’m sure that didn’t help at all.
RIP Gene: you were the heart and soul of this station.

After 30 years listening to KGO they fire everyone late last year who is good in favor of telling us several times an hour about a traffic issue 100 miles away or about a persistent dog pooping incident that has some neighborhood far away that I have never heard of up in arms. Whatever.
I am now a AM 910 listener. They brought over all the good hosts that KGO tossed. KGO just kept all the liberal wieners and Ronn Owens who is a good host but still a RINO no matter what he says. In the old KGO days both the liberals and the conservatives enjoyed the banter. We all got along and enjoyed the stimulation.
Now only the pooping dog gets the stimulation.

What a hopelessly foolish programming mistake made by the new owners! I’ve changed my preset on my radio from KGO 810 to 910AM which has the whole gang there (the wonderful people fired by KGO810. Basically KGO radio now recycles the same tired (and very few) stories, over and over and over again. Ronn Owens is left the manage that pitiful sinking ship of a radio station. Guessing when his contract is up he may head over to 910am too.
Go to 910AM to hear the old gang — 810am is a has-​been, a wonderful station that was razed to the ground by foolish new management. Foolish, foolish, foolish.

Changed the format and fired all the hosts (except for Ronn, and I’m sure he’ll be gone once his contract is up).
I used to listen on a daily basis but now I can’t stand the rehash of the same boring news all day.
Way to alienate your long time listeners. After 20+ years I will no longer support your station.

GADZOOKS! WTF HAPPENED??? What a complete cluster-​f*%$# disaster!
I started listening to this station the day of the the ’89 Earthquake, and listened daily ever since …NOT NOW. The programming and personalities were always top-drawer…NOT NOW.
You FIRED Gene Burns, Karel, Len Tillem, Dr. Bill and the rest a few weeks before Christmas– and have even stated ‘on-​air’ that Ronn Owens would be gone too. — if he hadnt had an ‘ironclad contract’ .again, WTF?
Congratulations Cumulus !! You bought the #1 station in SF (since forever) and turned it into a complete steaming pile.

KGO’s new ownership made a stupid decision to go to an all news format and clumsily dismissed talent much appreciated by regular listeners. The community loses big time and so will the new owners as they’ll get their butts kicked by the very good news stations in the bay area market.
