Greg (owner) and his crew did amazing brick work on my house. These guys are a perfectionist! Also, after the 3 day job, they fully cleaned up, no garage left behind. This company is «Highly Recommend»!

I always refer my clients to Jones for chimney repairs and inspections. My clients have all be very impressed and I have heard nothing but good things about their work.

Two walls of a 25′ x 12′ red brick planter collapsed because the original builder did not make the walls thick enough 50 years ago. I found two masons through Unilocal.Greg came up with a great idea on how to rebuild the planter that would save money, so he got the job.
It took a month to get on the schedule, but many good contractors are busy so no stars deducted. I’m really pleased with their first-​rate brick work. Because they were repairing an existing brick walls, they needed to put in extra effort to match the bricks, the pattern, and the mortar. If they did it wrong, it would be really obvious, and this is in the front of the house. They did it right and it looks great.
The new planter has drain holes to help prevent future problems. It’s a tiered design that solves the stress problem that caused the original to collapse. Greg’s son spent some extra effort to build decorative caps on the corner posts, which look great.
I postponed writing this review because the new mortar was initially much darker than the old, but they said that it would lighten up and match after a couple of weeks. It’s now two weeks later, and the new and old mortar do match quite well now.
Next masonry job I have, they get the first call.

We found Jones Masonry via Unilocal.We needed a large ($ 10k-​15k) brick job done on the front of our home that included doubling the size of our front porch, laying a wide, long walkway across the middle of the yard out to the sidewalk, and building a garden wall around the entire front yard perimeter. We called Jones Masonry and two other places that were all highly rated on Unilocal.Greg showed up ON TIME for the estimate (first win). He was very patient with us as we explained our plans to him. He walked us through the various things to consider about our goals that we hadn’t thought of. I had several specific questions about the foundation work, re-​grading of our porch (it was sloped incorrectly), and how the brick would ultimately be laid. Greg was patient and thoroughly answered all of my questions. After receiving the bid, we selected Jones Masonry as their pricing was competitive and we liked the answers Greg had provided to our specific questions much better than the other estimators that we spoke to. One example: the other guy wanted to to use half-​bricks on the porch and lay them on top of some tile that was previously installed on our porch. Jones Masonry told us the tile needed to be removed in order for proper adhesion and recommended full bricks for the best visual quality of the porch step. These subtle yet very important things gave us confidence that Greg and Jones Masonry knew their stuff.
They did not disappoint us after the job got started. They were on time each day, work progressed as promised, and the finished product looks amazing. We had some mid-​project scope changes and Greg was accommodating and more than fair with the incremental costs associated with our changes. The crew was clean, very respectable, and my wife never felt uncomfortable being home alone with them working in our yard. At one point I had some uncertainty about whether irrigation pipes had been laid under the concrete foundation and Greg was willing to speak to me late in the evening to assure me that they were properly installed as we had agreed upon. After speaking with him I grabbed a shovel to double check and sure enough everything was exactly as he said it was. Nothing I asked for throughout the entire project was forgotten. This is quite an accomplishment in my opinion as I am used to reminding contractors of things over and over (and over) to ensure they get it right.
The finished project looks amazing. They ended up using close to 2,000 bricks on the job. The solid concrete foundation for the brick walkway and porch is several inches thick and I bet I could park a semi-​truck on it and the brick would not move. We enjoyed getting to know Greg, Matt, and his entire crew and would happily recommend Jones Masonry to our friends, family, and fellow Unilocalers.

Jones Masonry came recommended from the place we purchased our stone at. I did quite a bit of research to find the best in quality and reasonable price. Greg was very helpful in design suggestions and ap, erasure to work with. They were on time, clean (fireplace resurface) pleasant and best of all they cleaned up after leaving! When the job was done! Highly recommend and the fireplace looks amazing!

I had the same experience as Cheryl and LH did … terrible work. (See photos). Greg was a nice guy, seemed very knowledgeable. We wanted a contemporary fireplace. It was an unmitigated disaster. His workers didn’t know what they were doing .didn’t even use a level. He gave the job to his son but wouldn’t back it up. We had Greg come three times to try to fix it … this is in the living room of our home in Almaden! When he couldn’t fix it, he got impatient. Announced he was «staying until 1pm» and then leaving. He realized he was going to lose money so he bailed. When we went to sue him to get some of our money back, the script rolled out and he offered to do everything legally required (protect his license?) I did some research and found many others who filed complaints. He knew the legal drill from experience I guess. Quickly realized we weren’t going to get a penny back. But we were never going to let him back in. Big time FIRED! We got a disaster left in our living room. We had to have the whole thing chiseled off … other professionals apologizing to us … embarrassed that someone in the trade could do such awful work. He cost us a few thousand dollars. My advice, NEVER hire him. See the photos for yourself. I’ve attached some above.

Jones Masonry was recommended to me by a coworker of mine that has used this company in the past and he was very happy with the work that was performed at his house.
My chimney is approximately 80 years old and it was in need of repair. I contacted Jones Masonry and the owner Greg Jones came by that day to look at it and give me an estimate as to what needed to be done. He was professional and knowledgeable and gave me a reasonable quote. I agreed to the price and he stated that he and his crew could be there in two days.
They showed up at the agreed time and finished the job to my complete satisfaction. they covered everything in the area that they were working and cleaned up and left my house in perfect order.

Greg totally scammed us on the repair of our chimney. We bought a house with a Chimney he inspected and quoted for repair, after we bought the house we had him and his guy do the work. We knew right away it was wrong. It looked terrible and was something we never saw before sticking out of the chimney. We had an inspection of his work by a reputable Masonry company and showed his work to an inspector for the city of San Jose and both told us we need to take action because what was «repaired» was «useless, not up to code and unsafe». Also, his employee that came to do the work didn’t speak English, left dirty hand prints all over our white walls and damaged a shelf he used to lean his ladder on. Greg didn’t even care when I told him all of this. He listened long enough to get his money and that’s it.
I don’t know if Agents are using him for inspections because he down plays issues or what but I highly suggest calling another company for a second opinion if he did the inspection. We trusted that he was licensed. Also, Look up his license it also says he doesn’t carry workers comp because he has no employees. He does have employees and his web site says «carry workers comp and liability insurance» I’m glad I found out after you had a guy on my roof with no safety equipment. We did confront Greg and were offered no apology or refund at any point he just got mad and continued to lie. Please do your homework before hiring this company.
UPDATE: I would like to mention that since this review I have been notified that they do carry Workers comp, even though at the time the work was done the State Contractors Board told us they did not, I guess they didn’t report it to the board till now??? Still no talk about refunding or apologizing for the work just angry phone calls and a letter saying I will be sued for $ 75 000 if I don’t take down this review.

My husband built the structure for a new mailbox but didn’t feel like he had the experience to tile it.
Greg’s son worked our job, along with another of their crew members. They’ve done a lot of mailboxes and knew exactly how to cut the veneers so the seams were staggered and all edges were finished. Honestly, the mailbox is so nice-​looking now that our house (which is badly in need of a paint job) looks dingy in comparison.
We especially appreciate that they came back to grout the seams for the mailbox door so it was watertight.
Very nice to work with and definitely on our recommended contractors’ list. They have a waiting list, so you probably want to call them sooner than later when planning your project. The other thing we learned is that some cities require permits for even a structure as tiny as a mailbox. Something to check on beforehand!

After meeting with and discussing our front and back yard stone work with several Masonry companies, we decided to work with Jones Masonry. The owner of the company Greg is happy to come by for an estimate and we found him to be very knowledgeable and really pleasant. Our job included a slate porch, stone pillars and low level landscape curb wall.
Another thing we liked about Jones Masonry is that they bring 30+ years of experience to the table, so they were helpful to us in figuring out the final details of what we wanted for our project. We also really liked the fact that once they gave us a start date they stuck to it and completed the work quickly. Another aspect that we liked about them was their entire crew has been with Jone’s Masonry for many years so we felt comfortable with them.
The finished product turned out beautiful! They cleaned up quickly and were a pleasure to work with. Not only will we be contacting them for future projects but we have recommended them to friends and family and they have done a great job for them as well. I would definitely recommend contacting them for all stone work projects.

Top notch! Greg Jones, Matt and Crew did an outstanding job. Stuck by their bid on a large job. Showed up with a full crew everyday and finished on schedule. Honest, great attitude, easy to work with, and a remarkable finished product. Job included: Flagstone patio, stone veneer walls, stone veneer house, flagstone steps, pizza oven with stone veneer, outdoor fireplace (stone, not an insert). Will post pics when possible.

I left Jones Masonry two message (was after their normal hours at around 4:30PM) and no one ever returned my calls. They originally di an inspection on my house and the inspection seemed fair, price seemed fair (although there was an out of area service charge but my area is included in their map here on Unilocal).
Not even going to bother calling again. Maybe the job is too small for them but that should have been told from the beginning.

Jones Masonry refinished my fireplace in Nov of 2011. Greg knows a lot about masonry and fireplaces. He’s very personable, was helpful planning the refinish of my old brick fireplace and helped me learn about fireplace inserts as well. He and his assistant were very clean — they put up plastic sheeting around their work area and cleaned up each day. The new fireplace is truly beautiful and I’m very happy with how it turned out. However, there were a couple of problems and I hope you can learn from my experience. We agreed on a job calendar, including the date he would order the tiles and a date to start the job (around my travel schedule). My mistake was that I didn’t write it down for him and remind him, and he forgot to order the tiles, which delayed the start date. This caused headaches at my job as I had to reschedule a business trip. In addition, I had to pester them multiple times to get the remaining tiles in the order (the «extras»). So I shouldn’t have paid in full until the job was completely done. But, those two things aside, I’m glad I had Greg do the fireplace and am pleased with the results.

Jones Masonry is at the top of our list for any fireplace work. They did our inspection before we purchased our home about six months ago and gave us a reasonable quote for some minor repair work. In the meantime, we decided to remove the rock from the top part of our fireplace, replace with drywall, and add a mantle. Great experience working with Greg, Matt, and team. Very fair quote for that project. The guys did an awesome job protecting our hardwood floors, covering the furniture, hanging plastic sheets to control the dust, and cleaning up. We’re so thrilled with the work they completed.

Greg did a good job for us. We wanted a row of bricks removed from our mantel and they took care of it. They hung plastic everywhere to minimize dust and cleaned up after themselves when they were done. My husband had a question about the work after it was done so Greg came out and redid it without us even asking him to. His subcontractor accidentally broke a lamp while he was finishing the second repair and Jones Masonry reimbursed us for the expense.

Jones is the best around at what they do. Anytime we need a chimney inspection this is who we call!
