John Xxiii Multi-Service Center

John the 23^rd Service Center provides a lot of services for the community. I am only familiar with the program that tutors elderly seniors with English and citizenship. I actually volunteered with Project SHINE (Students Helping In the Naturalization of Elders) and the seniors are a joy to work with. I volunteered with the program through SJSU, but you can also volunteer independently. The schedules are flexible, but you should be able to make it every week at a certain day and time. You are expected to stay throughout the semester. You need a TB test upon the starting date of volunteering. It was fun because I created my own lesson plans and was able to see how they fell through. I see ballroom dance classes going on and other English classes as well. With Project SHINE, you work with 1 – 6 seniors at once. There are a lot of other programs and services here, and Project SHINE is amongst the many.
