This is my regular haircut place for the past couple of months
1. The haircut is nice. No fuss, plain and simple decent haircut
2. I can watch tv all the while, individual tvs for every chair which was kind of cool
3. very cheap
4. dont generally need to make an appointment.

Randell and I are very sad to learn that Jack will be closing this salon due to an incredulous rent increase by this landlord with very little notice (although he offers his cell phone number 510 585 7960, should any follower would like to continue to avail of his talented services).
It feels like a death since there is no one else that had given my husband such a top notch look each time he gives Jack free reign! — and we regretted the two times that we didn’t.
Ever since my husband’s first hair cut here, we were so amazed at how someone could have a great eye and study of one’s face and features. I appreciated how my husband’s hair was still in good shape even as it grew and always making him more handsome and sharp. And my husband always raved abou how JJ is so great.
When we moved to Pleasanton from Campbell, we still never hesitated to make the 45 minute drive.
today was the first time I had Jack highlight and cut my hair (Since I had not
colored nor styled my hair for a year and a half due to growing it for our church wedding and wanting to grow it some more). Despite all that, I was sure to go to JAck when the time to color n style had come. It’s also the same day I found out he was closing!
He had put careful attention in each cut —- straightening each section of my hair first before cutting. And my hair is so soft, awesomel, and modern.
I regret waiting too late because there were other services that were are very intriguing to me like the steam straightening, deep conditioning, skin services, and other variety of treatments.
We are sure to support and follow Jack as we are decided to keep him a constant in our grooming needs! Meanwhile, a sign up on his shop announces this closure and provides his cell phone number (510 585 7960) if you’d like to arrange services with him. Since he lives not too far from Pleasanton, he mentions he can come to our home for the meantime.
I trust that he should emerge again as the other Unilocalers chronicled his progress from Fremont, to Milpitas, to The Alameda. Jack shared that he is eyeing a spot in Sunnyvale.
I wonder why he would not want to rent a chair for the meantime or as an alternative since it surely seems he has a solid group of following anyway. I learned from a google search that renting a chair will take care of scheduling, promoting, and other things for him. All renting a chair gets to do for him is let him do what he loves without administrative worries. Anyway, I really don’t know the real deal behind it all; although I understand how a $ 700 rent increase within 4 weeks can drive one away.

He confesses that his limited English is quite the weakness in his business. This was never the issue with us with the talent he has in this.

Great spot if you want to keep your hair in check.
My usual hair spot was closed one day so I checked this place out instead, and I was not disappointed, in fact I have been back and at this point may have switched my go to hair spot…
I’ve been lucky both times and there was no wait. The same guy was the only person there both times and he cut my hair. He doesn’t talk much which I kind of like. In fact each station has a TV so you can just watch while getting your hair done.
The price is $ 20 for a haircut (no idea what it would cost for a girl) and it goes pretty quick. It’s also pretty clean inside.

Came here on the recommendation of Sabrina C. Definitely did not regret it. Where else can you get a good ladies cut, shampoo AND style for $ 30 these days?! Jack has skills; he’s been cutting hair for years and years in Hong Kong and hasn’t looked back. He uses scissors to carefully cut each layer and measure their lengths to ensure they’re even. He doesn’t just haphazardly hack through your layers with a razor blade.
If I asked him questions about how he thinks I should style my hair to frame my face better, he gave me an honest and helpful answer. His English is ok, but not the greatest, so he told me that he does turn on the TV (situated right next to your salon chair) to fill in awkward silences if the customer doesn’t want to talk. Gotta give bonus points for that kind of effort to make people comfortable.
At the end, he can either give you a blow-​dry style or a flat iron style. Overall, a super great experience. Jack has great skills, and if you want to practice your Cantonese, he’s good for that too! :)

I know Jack since he was working for his previously salon; I like how detail he is when giving me a haircut and giving honest opinion.
The price is very reasonable as well; for the style I get, I would def. go back there again for future hair cut.

This salon is a gem and I think more people need to discover this place. Jack, the owner and stylist I frequent is an amazingly skilled hairdresser. I have seen him on numerous occasions and have walked out like a million bucks afterwards.
At first I used to live in the complex across the street so I initially went there out of convenience. However, I have since moved much farther but am still drawn back because of Jack’s skills. A shampoo, haircut, and blowdry is $ 30 which is a great deal in this area. Jack does not waste any time on you hair either. I think each time I’ve gone in he’s never been done in less than an hour because he really takes his time washing your hair, analyzing the texture, giving you the perfect cut. He’s given me a lot of advice on how to care for my hair texture and length. At the end, he does a fantastic job flat ironing as well, which I love.
I have seen him for hot oil treatment too on several occasions as well to treat the dry ends on my hair. He really seems to know what he’s talking about each time I go see him.
I have not gone tried any other treatment (e.g. hair coloring, perms, etc) there but from what I have done (cuts, hot oil) I believe everything else must be just as good.
Also, each seat at the salon is equipped with a flat screen television so you are kept entertained while he is doing his magic. However, I have never really watch the TV there since Jack himself is a very entertaining conversationalist which is a plus!
If you’re looking to switch stylists, I would highly recommend this salon and to ask for Jack.

After Sandy C. and Sabrina C. recommended Jack, I’ve gotten my hair cut here twice here. The reviews about his haircuts are very accurate. He does a good job layering asian hair. My hair is naturally a bit wavy, and the way that he cuts it does not disturb the natural wave were I to let it dry naturally.
I prefer that to people who say they can «cut your curly hair straight» because I get more variety then with my haircut. (I also get away with not looking the same as Sandy C. and Sabrina C. when we all three hang out, despite having the same stylist, which is great).
Nice work with the layering. I’m also quite picky about my haircuts because though I have «asian hair,» it’s not the typical thick asian hair that many women have, which (IMO) makes it more difficult for me to find a good stylist. At $ 30 a cut (no shampoo) this is a great find.

I have lived in the neighborhood for a while. I had been going for haircuts in Willow Glen, sometimes Los Gatos but just couldn’t find consistency in the haircuts I was getting. Then I found JJ Hair Studio after looking up reviews here on Unilocal… of course!
Jack is super nice, friendly and remembers how you like your haircut. You don’t have to remind him everytime you come in. Jack takes his time, is very detail oriented, his prices are very reasonable as other customers have mentioned here on Unilocal & the salon is always clean with very modern décor. Did I mention the little flat screen t.v.‘s at the workstations?!?
I get at least 3 compliments a week on my haircut & a few other local salon owners have asked where I got my cut. Truly a GEM!!! Yep… I always leave JJ Hair & Spa with a smile!

It’s been two months now since I had my hair done and I wanted to give it a fair chance before providing my honest feedback. At first I thought my hair might be okay but I find that the treatment was terrible.
I did the hair straightening (thermal rebonding) which is an expensive and lengthy procedure which I have been doing for the last 10 years. When it began, it was great because the stylist seemed nice. We chatted a bit and he told me he had been doing this for more than 8 years so I felt better. And there was a TV there to keep me occupied (watching cooking and travel shows) during the 4+ hour treatment.
However, two months later I am extremely dissatisfied. In comparison to the many other times I’ve done it:
— My hair is definitely not as smooth as it was in past treatments and it is very dry
— My hair does not lie flat (too much volume). Usually it looks like this 6 months after once my hair has grown out.
— The chemical smell stayed in my hair for more than 2 weeks
— There is a kink near my scalp which usually goes away much earlier
— My hair is falling out more than before which makes me concerned about future treatments which I will need since this one did not fit my needs
A few weeks after the treatment, he asked me how my hair was but when I emailed him back with my concerns, I received no response.
Also, when I asked initially about the price, I was quoted one price, and then after he completed my treatment, he told me there was an extra charge for my hair. I felt cheated but paid anyways. I probably would have been fine if my hair had turned out okay but I still think he should have mentioned it before starting.
I would never go back to him for hair straightening.

I just moved to the area and had no idea where to go to get my haircut. This salon is right off The Alameda, located near some restaurants.
After dealing with uncut, unstyled hair for over a year, I decide to give J. J Hair & Spa a try. I was not disappointed. Jack, the owner, cut my hair. He was very caring and precise with my hair. He even offered me some tips for care and maintenance. My hair has never felt better or look so good :) His prices are really reasonable. For a female, it’s only $ 30 PLUS while he’s cutting, there’s a TV at every station to keep you occupied.
I’d definitely go back, hopefully before my hair grows too outta control.

I got my haircut here with Jack. I didn’t really know what to expect, but had time to kill so I went. I have passed by the place before and noticed the Chinese on the window along with English, so I thought «oh cool, maybe I can repeat my Hong Kong hair cut experience!» I had a good experience because I got to practice my Chinese with Jack. He also straightened my hair during and after cutting, so I got a really precise cut. The price was pretty good too, $ 30 total for a haircut that took over an hour.

I first got my hair cut with Jack when he was located in Milpitas Square. After he moved, I decided to follow him, since he’s the only stylist I trust after moving to the Bay Area 1.5 years ago.
Jack is super friendly, and the one quality that I appreciate most about him, is that he’s very detail oriented and takes his time to do your hair right without rushing. For example, I don’t like using electric clippers on my hair, so after telling him this, he now only uses scissors (which I’m sure takes him a longer time, but he’s more than happy to oblige).
His new place is new, clean, he has flatscreen TVs located at each chair for your viewing pleasure, and to top it off, he also gives you a nice head/​temple massage when he washes your hair! Finally, his prices are also very reasonable.
I highly recommend trying out Jack’s services at least once, after which you’ll probably go back for a 2^nd… 3^rd… time.

My fiancé and I have tried many different hair salons in the Bay Area, but we want to say that Jack is really one of the best we have had so far. He is very friendly and has very good taste on the style! He is also very detail oriented, he normally spends ONE hour just for the hair cut, even for the men’s hair cut! Jack has been in business for many years, he recently opened this new Salon located in the central San Jose. The store is really nice and clean, and of course Jack is always as skillful as before!
