Consistently delicious. Take out or eat in is fresh and tasty. Owners on site and very gracious. Mai Tais are the best!

80’s style restaurant which needs a major facelift. Nice friendly service, but the food was mediocre. The chicken salad was not as good as other reviews suggest. The dressing was mustard base and the chicken pieces inside the salad was not fresh. The chicken chow mien lacked flavor and the Kung pao chicken was more veggies to chicken. Friendly staff, but still wouldn’t return for the food.

Some of the raving reviews on here really vex me. I have had better Chinese food from the freezer section of my local grocery store. The meat they use is probably commercial grade quality. Came her once and I will not be returning. And to boot our waitress was actually telling my child what to do and what not to do. Thanks but no thanks for trying to mother my son. Eat here at your own risk, be prepared to leave still hungry and very disappointed.

Their Chinese chicken salad is the BEST! In fact, we would LOVE to have the recipe. Definitively worth the drive from Tracy every time we go.

The food quality is disgusting. The chicken was actually chicken as far as I could tell. But the «beef» is honestly the worst I’ve ever had. I literally spit it out and returned it for a chicken dish.
Two stars only because the server was nice and kept the water filled.

The food was good and the service was good as well. The place just needs a little more cleaning and upgrade. Other than that everything went well.

Good, reasonably priced food, friendly bartender (Zack), and old skool appeal. What’s not to like about this place. Eating at the bar is appealing. I had the wonton soup and even though it came out alarmingly quickly, it was good. The wontons in particular were very well seasoned. Apparently, this place has been around since the 60’s.

Worst Experience Ever!!! My family and I ate here two months ago and it was the «House of Hell.» We were seated by our waitress, she was polite and doing her job. While we were seated, we were given our glass of water. My 10yr old daughter was drinking her glass of water, while she was drinking she found a large clump of food particle size of a quarter. My daughter while drinking had an internal dialogue in her head that went like this. «I know I didn’t eat yet to have backwashed my food… what is this?» My daughter alerted us and was in shock. We alerted the waitress right away and she was given a replacement. My daughter was pacified with her pineapple drink which she requested another glass. When the waitress came back with her new glass, she spilled the pineapple drink on her lap. My 10yr old was very calm and we admired her for this. The waitress was very apologetic but was beginning to lose her credibility. On top of all this, my girlfriend was mistaken for a «man.» I can understand why, she is 6’3″ and has a very athletic built, a professional athlete she is. At this point we where all anticipating «Murphy’s Law,» looking for the exit door. But my girlfriend’s brother convinced us the food was worth it. After eating the food… it did not help us forget what had happen. I wound not visit this place again.

This was my favorite chinese place. not anymore. First of all everything we ordered was gross and weirdly chewy meat. We learned they don’t devain the shrimp (which is disgusting and lazy) but on top of that when we quietly asked the waitress about it she got the manager. The manager came out and rudely said we dont devain here. She took one of shrimp items off our bill, but not all of them. We didnt touch our food after that and they asked if we wanted to go boxes. absolutely not. They were all together very rude. Our waitress was so sweet though, she deserved a 5 star review. I wouldnt recommend anymore.

This is my go to spot for Authentic Chinese food. Their Chinese Chicken Salad, Hot and Sour Soup, Chu’s Special Chow Mein, Barbecued Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, Tangerine Beef, Brocoli Beef, and Walnut Prawn are my go tos. Their food has always been consistently tasty. In addition, Kevin the owner and his staff, always take extremely good care of me every time I’ve dined there which is huge bonus!

We had the Chu dinner, which included egg drop soup, sweet n sour pork, orange chicken, and pork fried rice. The rice was the highlight. Everything else was ok. Even the egg rolls, which should taste amazing because everything fried does, didn’t. They were just ok. It was very cheap though, $ 17 per person. I would come back if I’m not able to find something with more flavor.
Why is Buddha in a rocking chair? Why is that picture hung crooked? Just little things to remind you that you aren’t at a fancy restaurant.
The food came out very quickly but we had to wait a long time to receive our check (they had taken our food away and were aware that we were done and ready to go home).

Hadn’t been to HOC in over a decade. Went in for their «imperial» dinner combo as it had two things I loved to try again. They did remodel a little bit. I wouldn’t say it was dated, it was spacious, mirrored walls with outer perimeter of vinyl booths, white tablecloth tables, but
Unlike the stereotypes of most Chinese restaurants. Our waiter, Michael, was very friendly, accommodating to our requests, conversational and offered refills «before» we could ask ;) (in fact we never had to ask)
Imperial dinner combo included:
Shredded chicken salad was great. It was tasty, crunchy with nicely seasoned bits of chicken. The fried cello noodles gave it extra crunchy. Nuts were crunchy and chopped tiny. It was topped with a lot of cilantro, but you can easily remove as well. Served with a side of medium spice Chinese mustard. It very different then other restaurants version of Chinese chicken salad, which makes it my very best to me.
Snow pea mix included snow peas, water chestnut and baby corn. It was simple stir fry but a nice addition to the meats in this combo. Crunchy, not overlooked, guilt free lol
House special beef was tasty in flavor. Bunches of sauced/​stir fry marinated beef sat on top of fried glass noodles that are white when fried. The flavor was uniquely delicious however I think cut of meat was not tender. It was cut in all shapes from strips, to triangles and it was very fibrous like long strands, so it was easier to tear like jerky. It was like overmicrowaved beef by a few seconds, still delicious just a bit tough.
Swert and sour pork was very good. Nuggets of pork were fried perfectly and sauce was just right in taste and viscosity. Lots of vegetables, but did not take away from fried tender pork peices.
Yang chow fried rice was seasoned well. Lightly salted or sowy sauced and rice was tender and meats and veges were fresh and render., I like that we can add soy sauce to taste, if needed. It was yummy.
Definetly on our list of favorite Chinese restaurants to enjoy. Both staff (Michael) and dishes are worth the drive.

So disappointed.
I’ve been coming to House of Chu for years. The food is always beyond amazing, melt in your mouth, authentic Chinese food. In fact, this restaurant holds a special place in my heart. It is where my soon to be husband took me on our first date, it’s also where he took me the night he proposed. However, after the experience I had tonight I’m sad to say I won’t be eating there anymore.
I’m not sure if they had a change in ownership, new food distributer, or new cooks in the back, but the food I picked up tonight was disgusting.
We ordered beef and broccoli, beef chow mein, orange chicken and egg drop soup. The «beef» and broccoli looked more like the white mest from a chicken and broccoli and tasted like fish. There was no sauce and Im not sure why it was so rubbery. The same thing with the beef chow mein, extra greasy with no flavor. The orange chicken was too spicy also.
When I called back, the Asian man who always works the front, who I imagine is the owner answered and all he could say was «I promise its beef, you can trust me». I’m sorry but that doesn’t fix the problem or give me any kind of satisfaction.
It sucks to see a place that was always so good, had such amazing authentic food and friendly staff go to crap.

We went there on Sunday a little after 5pm. I was surprised to see a few tables of people already there. The food was pretty bad. Not to mention the waitress was really sloppy dressed with collar sticking up, hair was a mess and looks like she is wearing somebody else coat. And when she was serving the food, it was dripping everywhere and was very unappetizing. Our food also took 45 mins of waiting. I was just about to say just box it up. We got Beef with Broccoli, but I thought it was chicken. Called the lady over and she said that is beef. The only way that white looking piece of meat is Beef is if they broiled their meat then throw it in whatever sauce for the dish. Chow fun was bad too. So we hurried up paid the bill and left. Needless to say, we will not be back.

So disappointed.
My family loves Chinese food, so we were hopeful for dinner at House of Chu after reading generally positive reviews. Sadly, it did not turn out so well.
We were not offered any drinks, so when we asked and finally received water and tea it was truly the worst tasting «tea» I’ve ever had. Re-​used tea bags? Blech.
The food was mediocre at best. The egg rolls were greasy and the filling was gross. The pork fried rice looked like rice with chopped up lunch meat ham. The beef with broccoli was an odd shade of beige. The kung pao chicken didn’t taste very fresh.
Panda Express would have been better.

I generally order only take-​out for lunch from House of Chu. They have it hot and ready in 15 minutes. A couple of lunch special dishes I really enjoy are the General Chicken ($ 8) and Chu’s Special Beef ($ 8.75) Their chicken salad is also very good. The entrée size is plentiful served with a side of rice and an egg roll (on the greasy side) Usually enough food to split with another person, unless your really hungry. They also mix a terrific Mai Tai.

The place is huge, and there is a bar section as well. But I don’t think they could handle too many customers. From the outside, the place looks really dark. It is an old building, so it is not very clean and modern, and the bathroom was pretty grimy. But…
The Customer Service: In general, the servers were pleasant and nice. But it took forever to get our food. I went here with my mom, and there were only two other small parties in the restaurant, and somehow it still took 30 MINUTES to get our first entrée. The servers were pleasant, but during this 30-​minute period they never walked by to explain why we were waiting so long for our food or to check up on us.
The Food: We ordered the seaweed soup, the salt baked fish, the Peking pork, and the fried banana dessert. The seaweed soup was good and the price was worth it, as well as for the salt baked fish, which was great, I would recommend ordering that. But the Peking pork was chewy and the Peking sauce tasted more like the orange chicken sauce. It definitely didn’t taste like any Peking pork I’ve ever had. The fried banana dish was OK, it tasted OK, but the gross part was that it was like a 3 pound bag of sugar had just been randomly poured on top of the dish. The sugar hadn’t been cooked or anything. It was just dumped on. We had to scrape most of it off.
Oh one more thing: my mom was really upset about the soup takeout. We had barely eaten our soup, so we asked to get for a container to pack it to go. The waiter offered to pack it up for us in a paper bag and everything, but when we got home, the soup was in a tiny 2-​oz container. Where was the rest of our soup?! We felt gipped.

When your workplace has a dedicated day for House of Chu, you know it’s real. Every Tuesday (Chus-​day… LOL) we all get the lunch specials here. It’s super cheap — $ 7 – 10 depending on you entrée with fried rice and an egg roll.
The food isn’t mindblowing and authentic, but it’s a step above Panda Express. House of Chu is definitely catered more towards white-​folk. It has the Chinese-​American staples, but nothing too crazy. This is greasy, delicious Chinese food that hits the spot every time I want something bad so if you’re on a diet stay away.
I love the string bean beef or mongolian beef, both made extra spicy! The pot stickers are consistent and the hot and sour soup always makes me feel better when I’m sick.

Went here for lunch on 1÷5÷2015. I live in the area, so I’m looking for a decent Chinese restaurant. I drive by here all the time, so I decided to stop by and give their lunch a try.
A couple of words come to mind when I think about my experience here.
dated, dirty, uncaring, rundown, forgotten…
The first thing I noticed when I sat down is that my chair was rickety and felt like it was going to implode under me. I’m a h/​w proportional guy — so this was interesting. I swapped for another chair, better, but still rickety.
The next thing I noticed was the level of uncleanliness everywhere.
My tea pot literally had tea crust in the metal seams and just looked dirty. The soy sauce bottles were grimy and had residue inside the bottles. The little condiment/​bottle holders on the table had food crumbs everywhere. The salt and pepper shakers were disgusting.
I’m not OC or anything, but I shouldn’t feel like I have to use hand sanitizer whenever I touch anything either.
I ordered the Sichuan Beef lunch plate.
3 minutes later the waiter comes by with his cart and serves my meal.
Here are my observations.
First, it only took like 3 or 4 minutes between the time he took my order and when he rolled my food out. What does this tell you???
Like others mentioned, the egg-​drop soup was thick, starchy, bland and worst of all, barely warm. I really take issue with this. Please, if you’re going to serve soup, please serve it hot…
The egg roll was oily and the ingredients could not be determined. I did taste a slight hint of cinnamon which I have experienced at other Chinese restaurants. This tells me there’s a recipe there somewhere, but the execution went horribly wrong.
Also like others mentioned, my main course (Sichuan beef) was mostly vegetables and only a few scraps of actual beef made it into the meal.
My meal was also served at room temperature, meaning, my meal was not prepared for me/​cooked to order. Rather, It was assembled out of some larger serving tray of pre-​made food.
While eating my meal, I did take note of the general restaurant atmosphere. The carpets are distressed from years of wear & tear and food. There were small flies hovering around (I believe one other person mentioned this in their review).
I can smell cigarettes from the bar area (I’m not sure if the place lets people smoke in there late at night — or — if the is a leftover odor of when it was legal to smoke inside food establishments — either way — ickkk).
Maybe it was good a long time ago, but based on the my lunch experience — it’s not good now (or at least at lunch).
Lastly, my stomach felt «off» for the remainder of the day. I suspect it was my meal.

if you have any care left, you NEED to invest in your restaurant. It is in dire need of an upgrade and your food quality needs to be brought up to a higher standard.
I would try your place again if it was a) thoroughly cleaned and updated and b) I had confirmation that food is made to order.
I’s a shame cause there really are no good Chinese restaurants in the area. You could own the Chines food space — but it seems like you’ve just given up.: (
