Specialties
We specialize in residential projects, from additions and remodels to custom homes. As ‘Architects for Homeowners’, we design for your needs not our ego.
History
Established in 1987.
Hometec Architecture began in the dining room of our home and quickly grew to the point where I had to have an actual office.
My niche has always been residential. Alhough I’ve worked in other fields of design, such as jails, hospitals, and shopping malls, I prefer helping homeowners create their dream homes.
Meet the Business Owner
Richard H.
Business Owner
Rick went to school at San Jose State, studying Music, before realizing his love of design and transferring to West Valley College for 2 years. After that, he and his wife, Holly, moved to Southern California, where he attended Cal Poly Pomona.
Upon graduation, he lived in SoCal for a couple years before deciding to move back to the Bay Area.
He started HOMETEC Architecture in 1987 in the dining room of his home and within a few months realized that the business was threatening to take over the house. With twin babies, that wasn’t going to fly, so he opened up his 1 man shop in Willow Glen on Lincoln Avenue.
After several moves to different rented offices — all in the Willow Glen area — we fast forward to 2005 when Rick and Holly bought a run-down historic house on N 1st Street at the edge of Japantown. They took a year to renovate the house and turned it into a mixed-use building where HOMETEC is on the ground floor and they live in an apartment above.
