Hertz Rent A Car

Made a reservation online, showed up, no car. Seinfeld would love it. They’re good at taking the reservations, but not holding them, and holding them is really the most important part.

James, Frank & Jihan have amazing and phenomenal customer service! I’ve been here about 10 times and every time I’ve come in I have received nothing, but kindness and great service. Thank you guys for being always being attentive!

This place is robbery beware if Hertz Business Practices. State Farm paid them for what they asked for $ 792.00, and they never bothered asking for an extension which we still had funds available for. They also charged a $ 99.00 refueling charge for a gas tank that takes $ 25 to fill. Do the math. The $ 11 dollars per day on coverage cannot be paid by your insurance so that was $ 475 dollars out of pocket. They will get you one way or another. We didn’t even use the vehicle. Total out of pocket with Rental Car Insurance is $ 675.00. Watch out for these rats.

Picked up a car for insurance replacement at the Hertz on Cottle Road. Waited in line for 48 minutes while the employees slowly snailed through the customers. Which is still OK in my books.
What is NOT OK is the UNETHICAL behavior demonstrated by the middle-​aged female employee on the counter. 1) Lied to customers ahead of us about unavailable cars and then offered to us saying its been just sitting in the parking lot for a while (but told customers ahead of us that the xyz models were unavailable). 2) Lied to us about inclusive charges (Despite my double checking) and then backed off on her words during the car return (I have witness to confirm what she quoted during car pickup).
Overall I refuse to do business with this franchise that allows for Unethical and unprincipled behavior by its employees. Incompetence and slow service is also a constant at this branch of Hertz. But Definitely keep an eye out for lies and deceit.

This rental place are the worse, specially the women full of make up the words that she only knows I can’t do that. We’re asking to replace the car we rent cost the starter is not good she can’t even give as replacement.

I went with my girlfriend to help remove the damage waiver on her rental car because there was an extension of my car not being finish repair until 1÷18÷16. I did not wanted to pay damage waiver fee knowing that I would not being use the car a lot. I waited for almost 40 minutes until I was helped. The person that helped me was Joan. She had a hard time trying to remove the damage fee and eventually did it with a help with a co-​worker. After she went outside to re-​inspect the car and said that I was good to go. No new receipt was printed or any note was inputted except the computer she was using. When I went to return my girlfriend rental car to 3076 Alamden Expressway, San Jose, 95 118 on 1÷18÷16, the person who helped me I don’t remember her name said I have to pay the damage waiver fee from the day I picked up my rented car which was total of 374.00 USD. I told her the damage waiver was removed on 12÷21÷15 paying only 66.00 USD. She called Joan to ask her to recall on the day if she made that adjustment and answered no adjustments were not made at all nor my contract was ever access into that day (12÷21÷15) to make that change. I am very disappointed about the service given. I came in, waited 40 minutes, was told I was good to go and was done, and now I was misled end up having to pay 300.00 USD (fee adjustments were made by manager). I asked if the store have camera’s that are available to show that I was present on that day (12÷21÷15) in the store and was helped, I was told the location on Cottle Rd have no camera around the store. I have my phone bill showing the day (12÷21÷15) I called to Hertz on Cottle Road before bringing in my rented car to have the damage waiver removed and an email with Ameriprise instructing me on how to remove the waiver since it is under the contract of Ameriprise. I would not want this to happen with anyone else. General Manager did call and said he could not give a lower discount than it already is which I was not asking for. He also said that Joan was fully trained when removing the damage waiver; my girlfriend was supposed to sign some paperwork on the day of the removal, which that didn’t even happen and was not aware of. Nothing got resolved. Still waiting on Hertz corporate to response…

This is the worst place to rent a vehicle. If I could give them no stars I would. My husband rented a car because he was in an accident and the insurance said to go rent it from them. He had the car for a month while we searched for a new vehicle. Ours was totaled. When he rented the car the rep advised him to purchase the insurance then check with our insurance agent to see if we need it or not. If we didn’t to call her, Gina and cancel it. My husband checked and we did not so he called Gina the next day and canceled it. She said okay no problem she will take care of it and hung up. Well come to find out she did not remove it, did not make notes and can’t remember the call. We were charged for the insurance which is close to 1000.00 for it. We spoke to the area manager Wes who could do nothing about it since my husband didn’t sign the cancelation and he didn’t even bother to give us any options. Gina’s inability to do her job properly has cost us 1000.00. Had she told him what he needed to do we would have done it. I even have the billing statement from my phone company showing the call made to their office. I honestly think they are being deceptive to ensure their office meets their sales quotas. I will be sharing this on other social media and with every client I work with to ensure they know what a horrible experience we have had. I have worked for the same company for 17 years and if we did something that was incorrect we fix it. It seems as though this company does not share the same values. This was truly insult to injury. If you value your wallet don’t rent from them.
Update 12÷15÷15
After many conversations with corporate and the area manager they have partially refunded the insurance. It took time, negotiations and a boatload of frustration. The resolution is not exactly what we wanted but they did refund some of the insurance. It still should not have taken such a fight to do so and should not have happened originally.

Well after looking at the ratings for this place I knew my chances weren’t good. First experience trying to get a live person on the phone. Took quite a few calls before someone answered the phone. When someone did answer they advised they would look up my information and be right back. I waiting 15 minutes on hold and finally hung up and called back. I was then told that they were busy at the moment and I would need to hold. I asked for an estimated time and he could not give me one. I asked for a supervisor or someone else he could transfer me to and all I got was dead air. Not sure if I’m still on hold or he hung up? Thanks AAA for this reference it’s going quite well as you can read!
Update: while I’m on hold the collision company called them and was able to get my information before they came back to the line to help me. Gotta love that.
Once I did get in contact they referred me to the Hertz at a different location since they didn’t seem to have a vehicle available?

I made a reservation online the night before for a noon pick-​up on a Saturday. However, when I arrived at 12:10 to get my car, they were closed. They were also closed all day Sunday, so I would have been forced to do an after hours drop off and pay for an extra half day. The paper tapped to the window announcing a change in hours doesn’t help with an online reservation. Luckily, another location across town honored my reservation.

Giving a lowest rating possible. This location has lots of customers stopping while we had to wait there for over 90 min as they did not have our car ready. This location is unequipped to be in car rental business here. It’s in strip mall where I don’t see how other businesses would allow rental cars to be parked at their spots. They do not plan ahead with existing reservation as customers waited for cars to be brought from other location. They can do a bit better by planning ahead as most customers make advanced online reservations. Sorry Hertz you can do better.

Dropped off my rental car today and had quick convient service from the staff. It was honestly the easiest drop off for a rental I have ever had. So from other reviews maybe pick up a car at a bigger spot, but definitely drop it off at this place!!!

If I there’s an option for negative ZERO stars to the nth degree, I would select it. Twice.
Made an online reservation about 3 weeks ago and tried to pick the car up today only to be told that they have no vehicles available. They called another location to see if they have any cars & long behold — there’s a whole lot of nothing. Not that it would help me considering I have no extra time to trek to another location.
The employee’s lax attitude towards the situation made it worse for me.
«I’m sorry, had I seen your reservation, I would’ve called you & could’ve saved you some time driving here. The other location didn’t have a car available and that lady right there (pointing to the lady in the waiting room), she’s been waiting for 20 minutes for a car too». — Hertz Employee that hates life.

Physically visited the Hertz on Cottle Road in San Jose on 7-​April to reserve a Chevy. Insisted on an American comfort ride and was promised I would get either a Malibu Or an Impala. When I got dropped off with my party of Senior for our trip to Brentwood, I was given a Kia Optima with stiff seats instead. Upon contesting, I was told «YOU GET WHAT WE HAVE.»
Hertz is unreliable! They had three days to accomodate my need! But they totally disregarded! I will never do business with these folks. When I asked for a settlement discount I was offered a coupon for «next» time.
No next time for me! There are other car rentals that offer options so will never go there again!

I came here a couple of times and had smooth transactions. I would suggest to work with ANTHONY. He’s the best Hertz employee I’ve ever dealt with. Great customer service, and all around great guy… I’m sure I’ll be back but only on a day my guy Anthony is in the building!!!

I was told a driver would pick me up in 30 minutes. I called 50 minutes later and they put me on hold for 10 minutes, so I hung up and called back. Then they told me I was out of their 5mi pickup range, which they should have just told me when I first called. (insurance made the reservation for me, so I didn’t know about the 5mi range).
They transferred me to another Hertz location (Los Gatos), and said I would be picked up within 15 minutes since it was 2 miles away. I called 20 minutes later, and they said their driver was on the way. 40 minutes into the transfer, I just asked my repair shop to take me there, where I waited another 1.5 hours for my car.

I’ll never go here again. Because they did not have a equal size car as mine they tried putting me in a fiat size vehicle. Then charged 5 days of $ 15 a day insurance If I upgraded to a full size. I can see if I wanted an upgrade but the fact is they could not accommodate me with what I should have received in the first place. Bunch of crooks.

My body shop had told me that Matt would help me in getting a rental car. The body shop called Hertz and spoke to Matt to see if there were any cars available and if there was any full size cars. Matt said that we had alot of full size car that would be under my $ 30 a day limit. He mentioned an impala to my body shop guy, So I went ahead and went down there to get a car.
When my friend and I walked in it smelled awful in the office, it was about 2pm so I’m assuming they were having a late lunch. There was a guy helping another customer he didn’t acknowledge us when we walked in, but thats fine. we were next, I told him that my body shop spoke to Matt and if he was there. The guy went to the back and I could hear him tell Matt that he had a customer in the front. My friend and I waited for 25 mins meanwhile we can hear a group of people joking around and laughing. finally Matt comes out and just looks at me and starts telling, about how this one time he almost got hit by a big dude and how he was gonna kick his ass despite the dude being bigger than me, my friend and I were just puzzled. I thought why do I need to hear this? He then asks for me DL, so before I gave it to him, I explained who I was and that my body shop guy called him a few hours ago. I then asked him what kind of full size cars he had. He said we have a Corolla and called out the guy in that back to get it from a diff location. I told him that wasn’t a full size car and looked out the window asked if the 300 parked in front was available he rudely said NO! He said the Corolla was the only full size car. I thought to myself im pretty sure a corolla is not a full size car. I told it was ok and i’ll head to Enterprise.
Rude Service, and customer service sucks!

Dumbest and slowest people ever.

ADDENDUM: Yesterday, 9÷6÷13, I was about 5 miles out on 101 before crossing the Golden Gate & was pulled over by a CHP. I knew I wasn’t speeding so the first thing I asked the officer was what I did wrong. He said the tags on my car were expired. I told him I had been in an accident and the car was a rental from Hertz. So I took a picture of the license plate so you could see for yourself! When I took the car back, I was almost to the point of being livid. I let them know I wasn’t happy with the dirty windows & the lady said she saw the guy cleaning the windows before I left but I told her he only cleaned the side windows because the front & back windows were filthy with a bad film. I had to clean them myself. Totally UNACCEPTABLE experience!!!

It’s a very small place with 2 employees helping you while answering the phone & coordinating for one of them to go and pick someone up, drop off, etc.
The guy that picked me up & did all of the paperwork was great but the car they gave me was unexpectedly dirty, with handprint marks and dirt film on the windows. I complained & the guy (I forget his name) who’d been helping me said he’d clean the windows while I went to get some coffee. When I got back the front & back windshield had a thick film. I’m going to have to clean them myself in the morning.
I’ve used Hertz many, many times and have always received nice clean cars so this was an unpleasant surprise. Next time I’ll go to the other locations to see what selection they have. I was given the only selection which was a little funky dirty car. He tried to talk me into the 9 dollar a day insurance but what for? My insurance is paying for this so this insurance is a racket if you ask me.

This was my first time renting a car and I expected it to be a hassle filled with paperwork and forms but it was very simple. I reserved a car online the previous night and even changed my expected pick-​up time an hour before I was to pick up the car.
When paying the bill, I asked if they gave a student discount and they removed the $ 45 charge that normally would have been given for someone under the age of 25.
The staff was especially friendly and helpful and when I told them where I was going for the day, I was given a list of places to go see and different restaurants to try out.
I had a good experience and I would definitely rent from Hertz again, specifically the one on Cottle Road, the next time that I’m in San Jose.
