H&R Block

When I tried to do mine and my husbands taxes online it showed we owed a considerably amount of money. We thought it would be good to see a tax professional. I called to see if they would simply review what I had entered and the woman said no. I then asked how much it would be for someone to file them for us, she said depending on the forms I needed it would be about $ 140. This was fairly close to my limit but we decided to go anyway.
Once we got there, Jennie, put our taxes together and was helpful. (only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one) at the end though the price for them to file was $ 238.50!!! I asked if I could just pay the $ 140 I was quoted, she tried to work something out but wasn’t able to bring it down anymore than $ 212.
The lady at the desk (yevette?), I found out, was the one who made my appt. and therefore the one who quoted me prices. She claimed she never gives price quotes. Then my husband and I asked if we could split the $ 212 payment onto two cards, she said yes. Then when we go to pay she says «oh sorry, but the system won’t allow me to split it onto two cards.» (obviously lying is something that is second nature to her)
This place is a rip off if you don’t itemize your taxes or have a bunch of equity. All Jennie did was enter in the same amounts I did on my computer. Although we were actually going to get a little money back the majority of it went to them (we now just get about $ 60 back, not counting the $ 23 we owe the state). I never would have gone there if I knew I would have to pay them so much.

Horrible. I have always done my own taxes and decided to try H&R Block this year to see if I was missing any deductions that I wasn’t aware of. The «consultation» consisted of her entering my forms into the computer, and me telling her which deductions I should get. Including an alternative fuel vehicle credit that she assured me on 2 separate occasions didn’t exist. So I called the IRS myself, and sure enough, $ 650 credit. The price:$ 450, and the explanation I got as to why I was charged for unnecessary forms: «They were on the computer so I had to fill them out». Don’t waste your money.

Uhm Yeah… He’s not there anymore :(But we had a new guy and we were happy with him as well. I’m glad H&R block is close to us and we’ve never had trouble getting an appt. Good experiences so far. I can’t even imagine trying to figure out all of our tax stuff. Headache overload.
