History

Established in 1989.

Guru Electronics was established by Gurmukh Gambhir (Guru) over 20 years ago when he started selling car electronics equipment at local flea markets and trade shows in the late ‘80s.

Guru’s knack for business, enthusiasm for car electronics, and hard work paid off when he was finally able to afford his own car electronics warehouse in San Jose, CA in 1993. After that, for several years, Guru mostly supplied local Bay Area car audio businesses with wholesale car electronics equipment.

Over the years, Guru acquired all of the most popular car electronics brands and equipment and built a reputation for having the best prices and selection in the Bay Area. Recently, in the past 10 years, Guru Electronics has become more focused on retail sales and services (installations).

I’ve been in car electronics for over 25 years and it’s been one heck of a ride. I started out in the late 1980s as a small-​time vendor at local flea markets selling a few stereos here and a few speakers there, making barely enough money to keep my family afloat.

A short while after I got started, I took a risk and leased a warehouse in San Jose with the hopes of expanding my product line and customer base. I called it «Guru Electronics». Today, over 20 years later, I am happy to say that this was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. Starting out with just a few stereos and speakers here and there, I now own a vast retail and wholesale car electronics store with everything from car alarms, car stereos, subwoofers, amplifiers, backup cameras, installation accessories and more. Not only do I supply local shops with the car electronics they need for resale, I am a prominent player in the retail market, offering very competitive pricing and on-​site installation services

My boyfriend got me a new stereo along with labor for Christmas, gave them a call on a Monday and they said to come by at any time. Got everything installed and taken care of in under 45 minutes. The technician showed me how to program my new stereo, link up my bluetooth, and take a phone call through the speakers, and answered all of my questions. Very happy with the service, and very happy with the new addition to my truck.

Good:
–Cheap.
–Quick turnaround time.
–Good customer service from the two guys behind the counter.

–A lot of inventory.
Not so good:
–Technicians should have uniforms to look more professional.
–There’s always something that I have to go back or fix myself after leaving this place. Usually cosmetics such as not putting back the panels correctly or tucking in the wires that’s dangling.

Fantastic customer service! Prices are very fair! And work was clean.
I swung by, chose a stereo and in less than 40 minutes it was installed. The owner was very kind and sat and explained to me how the stereo functions work and we made sure that my phone was paired and BT was operating properly. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking to replace their stereo, instal a rear camera etc.

I went to Guru’s around 2:15PM and Sunny approached me with a deal since I emailed him on a quote for my 95 Integra. We got the process going right away and I paid a reasonable amount for a Pioneer deck with an AUX port!
The process only took about 15 – 20 minutes for my car. It may take longer depending on your car and the stereo you get. They have seating inside for customers to wait while their car is being worked on. I had a really great experience and I was in and out of there within 30 minutes. Definitely recommend this place for your stereo, speaker and other installations!

Guru was great to work with. I was looking for a way to add an auxiliary port to the sound system on my 2004 Toyota Sienna, and if possible, blue tooth capabilities. I thought I would need to replace the entire sound system. Guru’s price for the unit I was looking at even beat Amazon, so I sent an online quote request on a Sunday. Since they are closed Sundays, I was surprised to get a response within a few hours. The quote was good, but with all the add-​ons needed to do what I wanted, the price was more than I could justify for this vehicle. I sent back a note stating this and they suggested an alternative that I didn’t even know existed for less than half the cost. I had talked to several other places and no one had even hinted that there was something like this. I appreciated his willingness to work with me, and I was able to get the module installed that day.
I was very pleased and will remember them for future needs!

I’ve been to Guru 3 times. Today, I had some difficulty with a feature they installed almost 2 years ago. They fixed it quickly, and declined the opportunity to sell me new items, focusing instead on fixing the existing system.
These guys are knowledgeable, honorable, and do great quality work. I recommend them to everyone.

I would highly recommend you to buy your own aux cord if you want it installed. A high quality one. I have had to go back twice to get it fixed because of their cheap aux cords they use from china. If I’m going to pay $ 100, I shouldn’t have to keep coming back due to cheap wires.
My second cord barely works now and I always have to move it around in order for it to play my music. Also it’s staticky. Do not tell me this is my fault because it has not even been a full year and I already had to go through 3 cords.

One thing I can say about this place is they gave me respect and traditional American service ! I stopped at different stereo shops from moutain view to downtown San Jose and I wasn’t treated well at any place, no I contact no respect and horrible prices ! I came in to guru and they took the time to help me customize my car for a double din DVD player, and gave me a competitive price, they have a waiting area, and offered me a cold bottle of water, another thing you must know is they supply every stereo installation store in the southbay, so there is no way other places would be able to beat the price since they to shop form the source.

Went to a different shop before going to Guru’s. Guys their seemed legit but when I decided to them work on my car I was told that they were busy and would have to pay for the service and come back the next day. That was very shady and didn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Went to Guru’s not knowing what might or might not happen or their prices. Had to get my amp and sub wired and installed. Dealt with a guy named Sunny he was extremely professional and answered any questions I had. My car had to have some extra wiring done because of some features the car had, Sunny and his crew knew exactly what to do and how to fix it. Told me it would take 2 hours, only took 50 mins. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I found this business on Craigslist so I e-​mailed them and asked some questions about an issue I have with my car alarm. I sent two e-​mails in a span of three weeks and I did not get any response. I assume they are either too busy or they ignore my messages. I give 1 start to this business for customer service and communication.
The business replied to this bad review within hours. It learned that their «mail server goes through a lot of spam emails and it marked» my messages «as spam by mistake». If this is true they have a serious software problem or they never check the spam folder.

I got two touchscreen radios fairly cheap on Amazon and I thought I would be able to install it myself after a few friends told me it would be easy. I looked into it and thought I wouldn’t want to risk something going wrong so I went on Unilocal to find a location that would be able to do the installation.
Their business had a good amount of reviews and highly rated so I went onto their website. They had an option to email them with your requested work and they’d email you back with an estimate. Several hours later I got an email with both estimates which were very reasonable.
I arrived at about noon and they started working on one of my vehicles right away. After they completed the installation, a worker had me come outside to look over the work before starting the next car. Both cars were finished within a hour and a half which was remarkably fast. Cost me under $ 170 for both installations; much less than other places quoted me.
