Concerned to hear that the location might be closed. Tried calling at lunchtime on a Monday. Rings but no answer. Over the past 35 years, I have enjoyed the burritos, with my first experience being that of a jumbo Chile Verde. Fabulous and extremely consistent. In fact, the family that sold the restaurant passed on the recipes to the new owners and everything remained the same. Not one hiccup in the quality or the big flavors of authenticity. If they are still open, don’t be affraid to take on the SPECIAL burrito, with Chile Verde and a Chile Relleno. Have them hold the sour cream however. Get’s in the way of the authenticity and defuses the flavors.

My husband and I have been going here for 30+ years and always had amazing food. I am a picky person, but this place never disappointed. But, does anyone know what is going on? We have tried a few times in the past few months, but they are always closed.

I still come here on a regular basis. The breakfast burritos are awesome. The food is freshly prepared. I really like that you can get your food, sit down and pay after you eat, especially if they are really busy. I really don’t understand the poor reviews. This place is definitely not upscale but the food has always been consistent and fantastic. If you have a problem with people who have English as a second language I would suggest a reality check before Unilocaling.

The food was delicious but the customer service was horrible! After my burrito was made I had to wait 10 minutes just to pay. By the time I got to my seat my food was cold. I also ordered a margarita when I paid that I wanted to eat with my meal. I ate slow to give them time to bring it out but apparently they never started it! After 15 minutes I asked them if it was coming up and the lady said she had completely forgot! There was 2 other parties there so being busy was not a factor. I will go back for the chile relleno burrito but I would not recommend it if you are on time limit.

This taqueria is a great option if you live in the japantown neighborhood and you want something other than Asian food. I think Guadalajara is good bc they have a lot of meat choices including nopalitos and pork. Good quality meat and runny but flavorful salsas. They have bottled beer no draft here too. Try it! Fantastic mural on the outside of the bldg is reason enough to visit. Enjoy

OMG, got really sick from the food. Had lunch here, it was the only food I ate, so no doubt about the origin of the illness. Don’t believe me, go look at the bathroom before you order, wish I had, would have saved me money and time. My companion has the menudo, he loved it, didn’t get sick, however, he has a cast-iron stomach. This place is not for people with a low germ tolerance, but apparently the food is enjoyable if you can keep it down.

Guadalajara on Empire in San Jose = terrible Mexican food. we had a disgustingly greasy carne asada quesadilla made with shredded cheddar cheese and nothing but some lettuce and watered down sour cream for $ 8. the suuuuuuper salty shrimp ceviche was served on a stale tostada with very little shrimp and no other seafood for $ 7. the carne asada fajita plate came with over salted and very greasy meat, dry old rice, lukewarm beans, and ONE tortilla for $ 10. never again going back there.

The only real reason I go here is the Guadalajara Burrito which is super fat. Two types of meat… all the other good stuff, guacamole, sour cream. This thing is hefty. The owner is a nice lady. There are usually several specials going on and they also serve beer here which would have made it my go to Taqueria years back…

I honestly hate giving bad reviews, and I was going to let this one go until I actually got sick and spent half an hour in the bathroom because of the poor food handling practices at this place. Something really seemed off and I was right. :( I’ll keep it short — things that were supposed to be cooked were raw in the middle, things that were supposed to be fresh were more than a day old and microwaved, things that were supposed to smell nice and appetizing made me very suspicious and it just felt like the food was made by someone who had no idea what they were doing, no love, no skill and absolutely no interest. That’s all. Will not be back. Too bad because I love hole in the wall places.

Our company had a catered lunch from this restaurant and all the food was great. The vendor was setup in the back of our building and they served all the food. We had multiple meat options and they were all filling and delicious.

While I’m not a huge fan of their burritos, I just took their tamale-making class and it was wonderful! Classes are offered every Monday and Wednesday night. They are taught by Margarita, an expert«tamalera» who can make 100 tamales an hour. She explained how to prepare the masa(corn meal mix) and the hoja(leaf) and taught us how to roll the tamales ourselves. The meat was prepared in advance to save time. For the cost of the classes we got to roll a dozen tamales, your choice of chicken, pork, or for vegetarians like me, I made cheese and jalapeño(the masa does have lard but I was told that when I do it at home I can just use olive oil). While we waited for them to cook(about 45 minutes) they gave us each our choice of a margarita. I did this class with 3 other friends(we all bought the groupon) and we had a wonderful time hanging out. After they were cooked, they were packaged up and we got to take them home. The one thing I wish they had done was give us written recipes for the meat mixtures and the masa to take home, but it’s not much of a problem because I can Google that stuff. It’s the rolling and steaming technique that I wanted to learn. I’m now feel much more comfortable making them at home! Thanks, Margarita!

Huge portions. Food was amazing. Fajitas were on point. Like the best fajitas Ive had in a really long time. I think the combo fajitas was around 10 bucks. We will def be back again when we come to san jose.

I want to come back here soon! The food here is excellent and at a great price. Service was also great. I had a groupon for $ 25 which fed me and 3 other friends. We each got a burrito and a drink. The flavor of the carnitas was very tasty. The food is oily but it still tasted good. I usually get headaches and stomachaches from oily foods since my gallbladder isn’t that great, but I didn’t get sick here. We each only got a tiny portion of chips but it doesn’t matter to me because I couldn’t even finish my burrito. The horchata was really good too. We all left very full and happy. The location of this restaurant was in the middle of nowhere in a residential part of downtown SJ, but finding parking wasn’t a problem at all.

Went to Guadalajara Bakery & Market for the first time and I have to say, I was a little disappointed. I am normally a huge fan of hole in the wall Mexican places, so I actually liked the place when we first walked in, it wasn’t your cleanest place, but definitely had some charm. The woman at the counter was really sweet, but she didn’t speak a lot of english, so ordering was a little challenging, nonetheless, this was fine as we were able to get our message across and order our food. Everything is prepared ahead of time and then«prepared» when you order it.(Plated, sauce and cheese added, and then nuked in the microwave.) I had an enchilada plate with a chile relleno on the side. He had a Chili Verde combo plate. He enjoyed his chili verde, but the rice was tasteless and a little undercooked. My enchiladas were just ok. The red sauce was tasty, but there was no spice to it and they only gave you a little tiny container of Salsa. The beans were quite good and the plate also came with a small salad with sour cream and guacamole on the top which was not bad. The Chile Relleno was inedible. They were definitely made in advance and maybe it was because it had been sitting around, but it had a stale almost foul taste. I even tried removing the outer batter/coating and just eating the chili and cheese inside and that was pretty bad as well. This place wasn’t super close to our place, so I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to go back. The food was ok, but nothing special and not something I would ever crave or go out of my way to get. There are so many other great Taquerias in the South Bay, why would you settle for a place that is sub par???

Corner Empire and 10th Street 452 E Empire St San Jose, CA 408−294−0545 One of two restaurants run by the same family for 30+ years serves the best burritos on the planet. The beans are heavenly smooth and fresh every day. Their rellenos are made fresh every morning with fire roasted Poblano chilies. Suits come from South San Francisco to dine here. The fire department and the police congregate at lunchtime around a sparse number of tables. I have been dining here for 30 years. Chili Colorado, Chili Verde, BBQ beef, Carne Asada, Carnitas, chili rellenos burritos are all top favorites. These are embellished with guacamole, cheese, beans, lettuce, chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes, and onions, Pinto beans, Mexican rice, and hot sauce. Jalapeño are available on the side. Have a homemade pineapple or pumpkin empanada for dessert Very highly recommended. I have eaten here since the 1980’s. I eat the smae thing: The Guadalajara Special chili rellenos burrito made with two rellenos.

Guadalajara is one of those long standing places that has been around for longer than I can remember. Even though it’s gone thru an ownership change, the quality and portions remain the same. Order the special burrito and have them heat the tortilla on the grill longer than normal for a nice charred taste. If you’re a big eater, get the two meat combo and you’ll be fulfilled. For an added kick, have them put a charred jalapeño in your roll. I did notice a drop off in customers; I used to have to wait in line at lunch, and it was all worth it. I’ll still make that trip across town to eat one of my favorite burritos in the South Bay.

Huge burrito and pretty tasty! Authentic as they come. Came here today with FY after the library across the street. I almost forgot how big and tasty their burrito is. That and a small horchata total was: $ 8.00. ALl worth it! You should see the size of that thing. In my haste I forgot to take a picture of the burrito ;( A little bit of language barrier but we got it figured out fast. Clean place and no nonsense service. Mucho Gusto!
