This is about as poor service as it gets. In fact, I urge all of you considering employing this company to avoid it at all costs because of potentially dangerous situations.
Here’s a breakdown of the major issues (before going into my story):
–Severely overpriced
–Lack of professionalism by (high ranking) employees
–Refusal to leave upon being asked several times
–Lack of information prior to showing up (i.e. inspection charge of $ 90)
–Overall scam
–Dangerous/​Suspicious vibe from repairman
My mom had been home, awaiting the arrival of the repair man, who later claimed to be a district manager of some sort, and showed up to give an estimate of a garage door repair, including replacing two different springs. As you can ascertain from the other reviews, this company has terribly overpricing issues. Firstly, the estimate (coming out and «inspecting» the garage) wound up costing $ 90, but what was even more mind-​boggling was his estimate that it would cost us upwards of $ 1300 to replace the two springs through them. As you can imagine, this didn’t sound right to my mom and she attempted to get the man out of the house quickly.
From the get go, my mother didn’t have a good feeling about the guy who came to the door. He did not show up in a marked car, instead showing up in a generic U-​Haul Van, and had no form of identification on him. Although he was asked to leave several times, he insisted on staying and continued giving lower and lower quotes, dropping to about $ 1000 before his «cutoff». When my mom texted me to come over and help her get this guy out of the house, I rushed over, sensing that there was something sketchy about this guy, and asked for a business card. He gave me a card that had no name, no address, and just a phone number on it. The entire thing was sketchy and after enough pushing, he finally left the house, but continued to sit in front of our driveway for upwards of an hour. His «manager» called us minutes later and pressed on about the issue, continuing to nag us.
Looking back, he was probably bummed that we didn’t help participate in the scam.
We ended up going to a different company that ended up doing the job for $ 230 or so.
You can find far better deals with far better customer service and far less scamming by typing «garage door repair» on Unilocal,blindfolding yourself, spinning around ten times and putting your finger on the screen to choose a repair service so long as you are fortunate enough NOT to land on this company’s page. This was an absolute joke of a «service» and should be avoided at all costs.

Stay away from GARAGE DOOR SERVICES (GDS) !!
GDS or Garage Door Service company is a bunch of frauds and liers. They came for a no obligation estimate on my home garage door repair. their estimate began from $ 1300, I said no, then they applied some discounts ($ 1000), reduced lifetime warranty to 5 years ($ 700). I couldnt believe how can they come down to almost 50% of quote. I thought it seems to be a great deal but still I wanted to verify so I asked them if they come in the evening of the same day. the repairer Shaun and his so called manager Mark (over the phone) said that if I want to hold the price I have to give them $ 100 check but if I decide to go with someone else, they will not encash my check but rather destroy it. there was no guarantee or obligation that I had to go with them. Finally A&J Doors repaired my garage door for $ 250 all inclusive 2 days later. I had cancelled my deal with GDS beforehand and asked Shaun the repairer to destroy my check to which he agreed. I was surprised to see the same $ 100 check been encashed by these people 14 days later. When I called them they kept on transferring me from 1 person to another and finally told me that it was a non refundable advance .
As you can read from my experience, their quotes are unreliable and unrealistic, their repairers and other people are not trustworthy at all and they bloody flunk at customer service and satisfaction .
Stay away from GARAGE DOOR SERVICES (GDS) !!

Wish I had checked them out on Unilocal before I used them. As others have said this company is a scam located in Texas I think. You call an 800 number and they dispatch an installer. Stay away! My cars were stuck in the garage so I went with this company which I found in an AmazonLocal deal. Does Amazon check out and vet these companies? Obviously not. I was quoted $ 129 to replace a broken garage door spring by the 800 number dispatcher. I reconfirmed twice saying is this all inclusive and he said $ 129 plus tax. The installer shows up late after 6 PM and does the work and says $ 489. I said no way $ 129. He checks his iPad and on the notes it says $ 129 plus tax. He says the estimator is new and made a mistake the springs alone are $ 200 each or $ 400. $ 200 for a garage spring each? Really? He said I also tuned your garage door which is $ 99. I said I did not approve a garage door tune for $ 99. I said let’s call the company and he says no one is there. We go round and round on the price finally we settle on $ 289. This company is a negotiation after the fact and the installer tries to get you to pay more on site. So the installer tells me how great these galvanized springs are he just installed so I research them on the internet and oil tempered springs are what most companies use. I find out that galvanized springs lose 9−15% of their tensile strength after 90 days and require additional maintenance requiring tensioning every 6 months until they finally break. So now I have the additional cost of servicing these springs every 6 months. They build in additional maintenance. These con artists need to be shut down.

I made the worst girly mistake!!!, didn’t call around, didn’t get other estimates and went with the first Garage Door Service listed on the website. I learned a very pricy lesson!!! GARAGE DOOR SERVICE CO. has the worst customer service. Yes, they came on schedule and did the job quick, but once the job was done so were their customer service. I realized the next day that when they removed my old garage door opener, they not only removed the old working light bulb, but they didn’t replace it either. I called the following day and was told by a very rude man that in order for them to come and put a new light bulb I would have to pay $ 89.00 dollars because the job was already done and this will be a separate service call. I was outraged. I called again and when I asked to speak to the manager, I was told he was the manager. I got the run-​around. On my third call, a fictitious appointment was made to come and replace the light, but no one ever came. I went and bought the light bulb and put it myself. The worst thing, I found out my next door neighbor had hers stalled for two hundred dollars less… not point on dueling on that anymore. Lesson learned… WOULDN’T RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS TO ANYONE!!!

terrible experience!!! after scheduling an appointment and structuring my whole day around it… I call them after waiting an hour past the scheduled time and they told me they don’t service my area… very unprofessional! and a waste of time!

Granted, two years ago they came out and installed a new motor and pull. Everything went well. So +1 star.
When the two rollers broke on the door I called them and the repair person came out and we agreed the door needed to be replaced. He gave me what I thought was a fair quote. My door was stuck half open so it needed to be replaced ASAP. The best that could be done was the next day. So I put of tarps and barricaded the opening as much as possible. The next day I get a call that they need to reschedule to the next day. So another night worrying. Then the next day, they call me again and need to reschedule to TWO DAYS from now! No WAY. I cancelled and found a different company. Good thing, because the new company came and replaced the door same day and at almost half the cost of the quote from Garage Door Service. This company is OVER-​priced and under staffed.

Please be aware, like so many others, I too purchased a $ 39 LivingSocial deal for garage door tune-​up without looking into their background and reviews.
So this is what happened today. I called them at 5 pm when no one showed up for their appointment between 1 to 4 pm. The guy who answered said someone had already left a voice mail a few hours prior letting me know that they’ve changed my appointment to between 4 to 7 pm. When I told them I never got the message and it’s unprofessional for them to change appointment time the day of, he said it was my responsibility and fault that I didn’t get the message in time. As a result, I had to postpone my dinner with a friend at 6.
So at 7:10 pm, a guy showed up. He simply looked around and told me that I needed to replace pretty much everything when my garage door was running smoothly just the day before. When I asked him to tune-​up the door, he said he has already done his job by driving to our house and taking the time to look at it. He refused to even open the cover and take a look inside.

Avoid at all cost!
Horrible service! Unprofessional and cheap! Overpriced crappy opener that they put in my house broke after precisely 1 year! NOBODY wants to fix it because there are no part on this model and Guardian is off market many year ago.
Alfonso, the technician that did the installation did very sloppy job, wires hanging, loose screws. And on top of everything this guy kept texting on my cell some weird messages for some time after he visited my house !

So I called a guy to come fix the garage door & he tells me all the things that are wrong & that it would be $ 650 to fix.
I pointed out that he failed to notice the missing cable which was likely the root cause of the difficult to open the door. He disagreed with my assessment but said it wouldn’t be any problem and he would fix it as well.
I told him I just wanted the cable fixed, so he called his boss & authorized the repair for $ 125 because the bottom rollers were very rusty and must be replaced for just the cable to resolve the issue. I agreed to the charge.
He opened the door and found the first cable from the bottom of the door around the first pulley back to the top of the door was too short. I asked what length the cable is on a normal door & he let me know 8 or 9ft. I suggested at this point we’d likely want a 16ft cable because the spring with the torsion wheels are at the top end of the door when it is open. He mentioned that he thought a 9 footer would work so I let him install it.
He had the cable installed & as he got off the ladder, I mention that since he has a cable with no excess wire around the torsion pulley the door can’t close because it would need to be twice as long. He sees my point and doesn’t bother with his attempt at closing the door.
He gives me the rollers in the door & suggests everything would work better if I replace the torsion spring (the one that only has one wire on it). I thank him for his time and let him go on his way.
I got all this helpful service for a $ 39 dollar deal on livingsocial.

I had purchased a tune up special from Living Social back in Nov. but their technician was not only incompetent and diagnosed an incorrect problem (for which I had to call another garage service company) but also messed up the motor chain by applying the wrong lubricant.
I have called this company for a refund several times but have always gotten the run around. Last time I spoke I was told they would send out the check within the next week (that was 1 month and a half back).
Clearly an unethical and incompetent business. I would given them 0 stars if I could.

If you can afford to take a couple of days off from work, go with this company… otherwise, go with someone else.
GDS does not seem to care about customer service. When I called with my concerns, there seemed to be no follow through.
My garage door broke over a month ago. I called them and they were able to show up the next day… I was thrilled. They gave a 3 hour window from 9am-​12 noon. They called at 12 to say that they would be there in half an hour. At 1pm, two guys arrived, and after an hour they told me that I could either replace a piece of wood to fix the door, or buy a new garage door. They discouraged the repair option and seemed to push the «buy the new door option».
I didn’t really want to buy a new door, but in the end, it was presented to me in a way that made it seem that buying a new door would be easier, and my old door was over 60 years old, so I ordered a new door. I scheduled the installation for a date two weeks later… again, I was given a 3 hour window, from 9−1pm. If I had known what would happen next, I would have called another company and had the minor repair done.
On the day before the install, I called to confirm my appt. On the day of the install, no one called. At 11:30am, I called them. I asked, is the installer on the way? They told me they were experiencing high call volume and could they call me back? At 12 noon, no one had called back, so I called them again. This time a woman told me that the installer was on his way, and would be at my house in half an hour. Then at 12:30 another woman called to tell me that no one was on the way. Supposedly, the installer went to the «warehouse» and discovered that my door had been damaged and needed to be «fixed». We re-​scheduled the install date for the following week.
I called customer service to complain. Customer service is an office in southern california. The woman said that the situation sounded odd, and she would have a supervisor call me back. However the person that called back was the dispatcher that had given me the run around in the first place.
Finally, on the date of the install, I was given a window of 8−11am. At 8:30am the installer called me to tell me he was on his way. This was a good sign… except that at 9:30 he still hadn’t shown up. I called him back, he said he was at the «warehouse» and he’d be leaving shortly. I wondered where this «warehouse» was… he said its in West San Jose. I said, «Oh good, that’s not far.» For some reason, it took him an hour to drive 10 miles… but I was happy to see someone actually show up at 10:30am.
He told me that it should only take an hour to install this simple and small garage door. It took him over 7 hours!
7 HOURS!
What was that guy doing in my garage for 7 hours?
I kept checking on him. He seemed nice enough, but I began to wonder if this was the first time he had installed a garage door! Why wasn’t there a mentor or supervisor with him? He needed to borrow my tools! He asked to use my nails… He wondered if I had some spare 2×4’s to complete the install! Really?
I began to think that I would have been better off doing this job myself…
Finally, at 5:30pm he left.
Garage Door Service Co. clearly does not care about the quality of service… there has been no follow up with me. Given that I had called earlier, you would think that they would have sent their best installer, and called me to ensure that the job was done…
I had to take three entire days off from work to get this done.
Never again.

SUMMARY: I bought a Living Social deal and made an appointment. I was promised at least 5 different time slots for a rep to show up, and waited for hours, but the company is unreliable and never showed. A search by business name on the CSLB website yields no results for Garage Door Service Co. For details, read on…
I called the Garage Door Service Co via an 877−386−4416 number from Living Social voucher on Friday, November 15 to schedule an appointment, and I was told by «Steel» that a tech would be out between 1 – 4 p.m. Steel said they would call 30 minutes prior to arrival.
At approximately 3:30p.m., I called and spoke with Steel again. He told me that a tech would be out by 5p.m. (and that «dispatch» had changed the time slot to 2 – 5 p.m.). After 4p.m., I received a call from Steel, and he told me that the service tech was running late because he had to go to the warehouse to get parts and tools for my job, but the warehouse was locked and the person in charge of the warehouse was nowhere to be found. (This made NO sense because the tech and «Garage Door Service Co» had NO INFORMATION about what type of garage door I had, so any parts would have to be a generic fit, and those parts should be on the truck anyway.) After some prying, Steel told me that they were overbooked and had too many calls with too few reps. I responded that they then should not make promises to appear within a certain time window. Long story short, Steel told me that he wouldn’t be able to make it to my house until 8p.m. (Please keep in mind that this is approximately a 7-​hour wait from the original time I was told.) Since it was a Friday night, and I had been sitting around all day waiting for Garage Door Service Co, Steel made the offer that I could be the first call on Saturday morning. Steel said that the time slot for Saturday morning was between 7 – 10, but because it was first call, the rep would be out by 8. I agreed.
It’s now Saturday. No rep appeared by 8 a.m. I called «Garage Door Service Co» at 7:30a.m. to get an update, and «Robert» was of no help. I called again a few minutes ago (7:50a.m.) to cancel my appointment (because nobody called 30 minutes before 8 to let me know they were on their way), and was told by the agent that the rep would be here by 8:20 a.m. I informed the agent that if the rep is not here by 8:20 a.m., I would cancel (not let him perform work). I have been waiting around for this company for too long. It’s now 8:22a.m., and I just received a call from «Tina» at «dispatch» (877−469−1416). She stated that the rep was in an area where his cell phone wouldn’t work and was having some sort of GPS issue. She assured me that the rep would arrive within 20 – 25 minutes. I told her to cancel the call. I then called the main number 877−386−4416 and spoke with Scott to cancel the call. He stated that Tina had already done that.
It’s not just that the company is unreliable in terms of showing up for the job, but it is also that the company is questionable in terms of conducting business. They don’t post their CA contractor’s license information on their Living Social deal advertisement, and a search on the CSLB website for «Garage Door Service Co» yields nothing. On the CSLB site, the company name comes up as «Global Development Strategies Inc.» which is dba «Garage Door Services.» The company is actually out of San Diego. Long story short, it is a convoluted path to find out who you are actually doing business with.

Got great service from «garage door services» in San Jose. Sales rep named «Jack» was very personable. I will definitely request him if I need their services again. He was very good at answering all my questions and concerns. GDS seems like a trustworthy company and Jack was a great representative for them.

This company was all about service, first of all they had all materials needed stocked on the truck, I was quoted $ 149 a spring, But when the Tech Jack came out he saw that the spring I told them I have was not right and he ended up charging me only $ 119 a spring and dropped the labor $ 30 bucks to help me as well. I did not feel ripped off, taken advantage of or took for a ride at all. all professionalism the whole way with a great smile and personality to go with it, We even found we have the same motorcycle… Nice!
All in all I give his company a 2 thumbs up because everyone else could not come out same day rushed unless I paid them a $ 150 fee extra. Screw that… Not in my book at 10am you cant come, The hell with you then… You must have bankers hours… anywho. They did great and still running WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY yeahhh BUDDY!!!

They charge $ 189 per spring + installation fess. There are much more reasonable priced quality companies serving the bay area. Shop around and ask what is the price of the spring.
The service man was professional and qualified. Job was done correctly. But,…you can get a much better deal.
These guys are over priced.
