DTP Smog Test Only Center

I think this place is great for a smog check. They open on time, are professional, courteous, give you a clean place to sit, and get your car in and out as fast as they can. I failed my first test because I got a new battery installed yesterday. The gentleman explained that I need to drive my car 70 miles and then return for a free follow up. He explained it clearly and politely. This will be my go to smog test station in the future.

Yes this establishment is old and yes there is a language barrier but the service is friendly and fast. Took the fiances car here for a smog check and his car failed. He needed a new knock sensor and the price quoted here at DTP was $ 300. Of course I called around looking for a better deal but other places quoted $ 550+. We decided to have DTP replace the knock sensor and redo the smog check and his car passed! That same day, I asked if he could take a look at my serpentine belt because when I start my car it squeals like a pig. DTP looked at it and repaired it for $ 80. It was ready within an hour or 2 from when I asked if they could check my belt. I am no longer embarrassed to turn my car on because the squealing sound is gone!!! I’m not really sure why others have given this place bad reviews because my experience was great.

These guys ran the test, I passed all the functional requirements to get cleared for smog and they failed me because my car overheated, stating there was CEL. But there was never a CEL light, I have a diagnostic tool and it never read the code. Long story short, I returned for a re test and they still failed me. I went to another place and they passed me no problems at all the very next day. I had told the other shop what happened and they said they should have never failed me for a CEL light. The DTP guys also took forever and when I asked how I can correct it they were unclear and basically I left very confused. I Do not recommend.

This place is run by a couple of old idiots that just want to get you in and take your money. They are really slow and bad at their work. First they charged me $ 65 for smog, told me it was going to take 30 minutes but it ended up taking 90, and at the very end they failed me for visual inspection.
Upon returning with the right part installed, they tried to charge me $ 65 on top even though they knew it was a retest after I’ve waited what seemed to eternity, for the 2 of them to finish an Oil Change on a Scion xb. God knows why an oil change takes them so long but the owner of the scion did not look happy at all as he was waiting.
After arguing and wasting several minutes of my time with them, they agreed to charge me $ 10.25 for the retest. At this point, I had seen enough and left without investing another second with those dirty rip offs.
I still remember at one point I was like «Yo you can’t rip off your customers like that or your business will go down.» To which he said, «I bet you it won’t»
Don’t waste your time, you can tell from the outside that this business is falling apart. I only went there because I live down the street from them. Do yourself a favor and drive another mile and save money and valuable time.

I came to this shop on a recommendation of a friend who has only used this shop for minor repairs. I asked them to replace my clutch… By the time they botched the job:
1) I had to tow my car back from Oakland to San Jose a day after the repair
2) My car died on the middle of the 880 at night because they did not replace the cable to my battery properly and I had to have the car towed again!!!
3) They LOST or BROKE SEVERAL PIECES of my car’s computer, transmission, break fluid monitor, AND the clutch pedal
4) They wrecked the brand new clutch and the next mechanic showed me the parts that were destroyed.
5) They told me I was wrong about my clutch going all the way to the floor because that is the way it is supposed to be!!! What they should have said is that they have no idea what they are doing.
6) When I came back for the FIFTH TIME!!! To get my money back rather than waste anymore time and energy on them ruining my car… wait for it… They charged me the full amount and then gave me the refund!!! So they didn’t give me back a dime until I came back for the SIXTH TIME!!!

This establishment is a huge rip off central, especially if you try to get any work done other than smog test (Yes they do happily provide other services despite what their name suggests). They asked for
$ 95 to diagnose a Check engine light (it’s free at many other near by shops), $ 180 for something that would have been fixed just by me driving the car around for a few miles (another Smog test place told me about this and it worked!), $ 400 to replace a window regulator (I got it done for $ 200 a mile away)…you’ve been warned.

We own three cars. My regular smog guy at San Carlos and Race St (best ever) is no longer there so I Unilocaled for a location close to home. I called and they said I could come immediately. Very fast, very courteous. It cost $ 50 for our Sentra. I will definitely come back with our other cars. Btw, based on the other reviews: 1. a legally operated business is allowed in a residential area (better than tons of liquor stores) and, 2. if you leave your mechanic with a check engine light on the problem is your mechanic, not the smog check place. And now Unilocal will conveniently offer to remove these incredibly dumb reviews for a small fee (spelled e x t o r t i o n)

These guys are great. Had my car smogged in what seemed like 15 minutes. They’re friendly too, and have an inside waiting area.

All i can really say is that they got the job done.
Initially, my ’93 Jeep Wrangler did not pass Smog. And i’m not sure that i would have passed smog without some serious work. I did recently have the catalytic converter changed, but the seals are definitely not good and it’s an old engine.
Bottom line, these guys took care of me. For about $ 200 (on top of the $ 60 smog check fee) my jeep passed smog and that’s all i care about.
