Business Representation

Dowell LLP is a law firm that counsels individuals, corporations, partnerships and LLC’s on shareholder/​member matters ranging from formation, governance, breach of duties and dissolution. It has represented shareholders in management disputes, as well as companies and majority groups against shareholders alleging breaches of minority rights. Because many of our clients are privately held businesses without in-​house legal departments, we often serve in that role and work with other exceptional firms to ensure that all of our client’s needs are met.

Insurance Coverage

Dowell LLP represents policyholders in disputes with their commercial and property insurance carriers. It has successfully represented individuals in disputes arising for failure to pay benefits following a fire loss, as well as companies who were denied defense and indemnity from their commercial general liability (CGL) carriers.

Proposition 65 Defense

As one of the only firms to have two former Proposition 65 plaintiffs lawyers who defend companies against Proposition 65 actions, Dowell LLP brings a unique perspective to its counseling of clients. Our lawyers use their knowledge of representing plaintiffs to ensure that we do not create unnecessary legal fees that can result in increased monetary demands for our clients.

History

Established in 2014.

George and Lisa Dowell formed Dowell LLP with the vision of providing sophisticated, client-​focused service. With this guiding principle, they approach each client and matter with the same formula — listen to the client’s goals and deliver results that meet those goals in the most efficient manner possible.

George has spent 10 years representing clients nationwide ranging in size from garage-​based entrepreneurs to billion dollar companies. He studied law at Santa Clara University where he has also been a guest lecturer and is currently a mentor with Entrepreneurs Law Clinic.

Lisa’s experience includes legal and nonprofit work. After graduating from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004, she practiced family law at Whiting, Fallon & Ross in Walnut Creek. Upon returning to Silicon Valley, Lisa was a contract attorney for a plaintiff’s litigation firm specializing in Proposition 65. She went on to spend several years in development and fundraising before returning to law.

George D.

Business Owner

George has spent 10 years representing clients nationwide ranging in size from garage-​based entrepreneurs to billion dollar companies. He studied law at Santa Clara University where he has also been a guest lecturer and is currently a mentor with Entrepreneurs Law Clinic. Prior to law school, he was a teacher in Western New York working with kids with dyslexia. George attended the University of Washington where he obtained a degree in economics and won a national championship as member for the rowing team.

George lives in Willow Glen with his wife, Lisa, and two sons. When he’s not working or coaching, George enjoys golf, cooking and almost anything related to the outdoors. George focuses his practice in Corporate Governance, Business Litigation and Transactions, Insurance Coverage and Proposition 65 Defense.
