I had my wisdom pulled here as a teenager in probably 2008 or 2009. It was the only place that accepted my insurance that would put me under. Well I got new dental insurance from work and the website had Coast Dental listed as accepted. I schedule my appoint and asked if I could be in and out within an hour because it was on my lunch time. The person who scheduled me said yes. The office hours are the same as my work hours so it is the only time I could come but I work 2 mins away so no biggie. I get a call the day before my appt that they needed more information about my insurance because they had never heard of it before. I provided them with what was on my card. I arrive to my appt on time & the receptionist calls my insurance for eligibility. What was the point in calling to get more info if you were going to wait until I arrived to contact my insurance?! 35 minutes later I’m still waiting. I said I had to reschedule because I knew nothing would get done in the 25 mins remaining on my lunch. I told the girl that the office hours were the same as my work hours so I can come any day at 1pm on my lunch. She asked if I want to come in at 11:30am on a Wednesday. I just looked at her and said, «I’m going to say this one more time. Your office hours are the same as my work hours. I can come in any day but it has to be at 1pm on my lunch.» So clearly she did not pay attention when I told her my availability. The receptionist sitting next to her asked how long my lunch was so I told her an hour but I work down the street so it only takes 2 mins to get there. She told me the visit would take about an hour and a half. I was so annoyed at this point since I specifically asked when I scheduled if I could be in and out within an hour. I just said I’ll call them another time and walked out. Thanks for wasting my time, Coast Dental! See ya… never!
P.S– Their website states weekends are by appt only but they are not even open on weekends!

This is the worst dentist office I have ever worked with. This is also the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They have constantly rescheduled appointments with minimal notice. We always wait at least 40 – 60 minutes when we arrive. They have charged us for services that have not been performed and they will not reimburse us. This office is horrible. Don’t waste your time. They will scam you out of several hundred dollars. I am shocked they are still in business.

I wish I would have read the reviews prior to coming so I would not have had to deal with the stress this office has added to my life.
The office staff do not communicate well with eachother and their scheduling is horrendous. The appointments are booked far in advance and then they call to reschedule appointments for nearly every appointment. I know that seems absurd considering the amount of time they spend doing this, I’m not sure how they stay in business. It’s a corporation, there are dentists coming in and out, they don’t take ownership or pride in their work or put their patients first. They are more concerned about doing work to charge you as much as they can. Find a dentist that has his/​her own practice.
It is not worth your time or money to deal with such a poorly run place.
You may also show up for an appointment and have to wait 45 min plus to be seen, that to me is not acceptable when you are pulling your child out of school to be sitting waiting to be seen for so long.
You may also show up to your appointment to find that they can do the cleaning and not the exam like originally scheduled.
Super frustrating place to work with. Be warned and don’t give them a chance. I have given them way too many chances.

Called and left 5 messages and they never returned my calls. I paid $ 700 for my daughters retainers and they never gave them to me. I’ve been calling with No response.

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a dentist office before. I read all the reviews before coming in and I still decided to give them a try. I had an appointment at 2pm, I showed up 30 minutes early because I knew I would have to fill out paperwork since it was my first time, I finished with the paperwork, waited in the lobby until 2pm and wasn’t called, continued waiting until 2:25pm when I finally decided to ask how much longer it would be, continued to wait until 2:35pm when I finally got called in. I was taken inside, waited, someone came to explain everything to me, left, came back to do X-​rays, left again, finally at 3pm I decided to just leave because nobody was coming back with the X-​rays and I was so tired of so much waiting already. I had to pick up my son from school at 4 which is why I scheduled an appointment 2 hours before that time but with so much waiting it was basically useless. I would definitely never go back to this place so if you’re looking to going here, save yourself the hassle and listen to everyone’s reviews on here.

If you are looking for a filthy exam room, seedy customers, and terrible dentistry this is the place for you!
My husband and I recently moved from MI with our 3 boys and needed a new dentist. We are a professional family so I was hesitant to go to this dentist after reading the reviews, but as we are double insured, it was tricky to find a dentist that took both of our insurances. I took our two boys (6 and 4) in first. The staff was all very friendly and great with my kiddos. We barely had to wait at all. The lobby is sparse in regards to reading materials, and NOTHING for kids to do. I found it a little strange that they didn’t have even a small book basket for kids. Another thing I found strange was I had to ask for a toothbrush (??) We faithfully go to the dentist every 6 months and have always received a toothbrush, travel toothpaste, and floss at the end of the appointment. When I asked about it they did give the kids a great little bag, but it was all adult products for someone that just got braces… so off to Target we went to get kid friendly toothbrushes. So weird. After the appointment my son told me that they had his brother sit on the floor while he was waiting for him to be done. What kind of place is this?
Fast forward a week — to my appointment. Again, the front office staff was very friendly… but the good experience ends there. Let me preface this by saying that I have faithfully gone to the dentist every 6 months for the last 30 years. I have seen a gum specialist for my receding gums and have NEVER had a problem or been told that I needed some kind of special service. Luckily, I read the reviews on here so I saw it coming as soon as she started doing the gum check. The first thing I noticed when I got to the exam rooms was how FILTHY they were. There was dirt and grime all over the floor, the chairs were falling apart, the equipment was all chipped — it seriously reminded me of pictures you see of seedy abortion clinics. Had I gone into the rooms with my kids I would have NEVER had let them stay there (mistake #1, never again!). So disgusting. Prior to the hygienist even coming in the room, I texted my husband and said we are never coming back here. I wish I could say it ended there!
As I’m waiting in the dirty room I can hear a young child (probably 7 or 8) and his dad in the next room swearing up a storm — are you kidding me?! Thankfully it was me in here and not my children.
The dentist came in and, as I expected from other reviews, said I needed this «special deep cleaning.» I told them to throw the paper away and that was that.

Absolutely terrible. I’ve been there twice and the first time I waited about half an hour to get my daughter’s X-​ray taken and then it was an hour long wait for the doctor to check her teeth for 5 minutes. Second time we waited 45 minutes to be seen, and after a quick cleaning, spent another half an hour waiting for the doctor. We take our 4 year old daughter there so you can imagine the frustration kids (and parents) feel when there is such a long wait. We are looking for another pediatric dentist. It’s a waste going here and waiting and waiting and waiting. They don’t even care that you’re waiting so long, no info is given on what’s going on and of course, no apologies. Never going back. I have to wonder– doesn’t the owner read all the bad reviews here? Why won’t they do something about it??!

This dental practice seems to attract a lot of 1-​star ratings. We’ll add ours.
My family (wife, son, and myself) had our first appointments with Coast Dental yesterday. For what it’s worth, we think we’re the kind of folks a dental practice would like to work with — we’re prospective new patients, fully-​insured, healthy with no dental complaints, seeking our regular every-​6-​month cleanings. We showed up 15 minutes early with all our new-​patient paperwork already completed. Our previous dentist, that we had used for about 10 years, retired earlier this year, and we were assigned to Coast Dental by our insurance. No bad experiences making us jump to a new dentist, no weird baggage, nothing. Just looking for a nice dentist to clean our teeth.
I made our appointments 2+ weeks prior to yesterday. I provided all our insurance information to the receptionist, and answered all her questions on the first phone call. Two days before our appointment, I got a call from a lady at the practice, telling me she was having some trouble verifying our insurance. I again answered all her questions about our policies, and she said she would «take care of it» and call me back if there was any other issues. No further phone contact from the practice.
So, yesterday, we arrive early, paperwork done, ready to be seen. The lady at the front desk reviewed our account and told us that our insurance had not been approved — specifically that, while Coast Dental is an in-​network provider for our son’s Anthem Blue Cross insurance, the specific dentist he was to see, was not. My asking why this wasn’t figured out prior to our arrival resulted in apologies, but no solution other than to re-​schedule with another in-​house dentist (we initially did, but then cancelled his appointment after what I detail below). As a result, despite doing everything right on our end, our son lost his second semi-​annual teeth cleaning this year, as the benefit expires today. Frustrating enough on its own merit, but only compounded by the care provided by Dr. Gosavi, whom we were scheduled to see.
Straight up, we didn’t like her. We both quickly began to feel the same «upsell» behavior so many other Unilocal posters have mentioned about this corporate practice. When we challenged her on this, she rapidly devolved into defensiveness and repeating the phrase «compromised care». My wife and I are licensed veterinarians that practice locally, and when I eventually divulged this to her (as a mark of my own frustration with her behavior), she became even more short with me.
Specifically…in the last 21 years my wife and I have known each other, we have been 100% consistent, with every dentist we’ve sat in a chair for, in getting our twice-​yearly cleanings. We take our preventive dental care seriously, and as I’ve mentioned, are fortunate to have our health, and healthy mouths. I don’t have a single cavity. EVERY dentist we’ve used has come to the same conclusion. All have scaled/​polished — NONE have recommended anything more interventional.
But yesterday, my wife was told that because she had «marginal gingivitis» and several 4 mm periodontal pockets (just a few), that she needed more than a prophy — and that all additional services would not be covered by insurance. This included «fillings» for «deep grooves» in some of her crown’s occlusal surfaces, not evident on the dental radiographs, and not covered by insurance because, well, they weren’t actually «fillings» anyways, because the lesions weren’t cavities. Um, what? My wife said, «No thanks, just the regular scaling and polishing please». Dr. Gosavi refused. My wife got up out of the chair.
Dr. Gosavi also told me that she was «on the fence» (again, her words) about whether to tell me that I needed more than a regular cleaning too, despite her stating that I had no gingivitis. After some back-​and-​forth, we settled on the cleaning only. But not before I asked her for clarification on my wife’s care.
Dr. Gosavi made it clear she refuses to clean a patient’s teeth if there’s any additional care she’s recommending. She told me that either we allow her to do everything she’s recommending (and can’t be confirmed by anything other than her impression, and not covered by insurance), or there’s no dental care.
Dr. Gosavi, health care should not be an «all-​or-​nothing» endeavor on the part of the provider, except in rare/​unexpected/​NON-​ELECTIVE instances. Realizing this can be morally invigorating for our best doctors. Others fall short.
She then had her hygienist polish my teeth, BEFORE Dr. Gosavi scaled/​cleaned them. This is beneath the VETERINARY standard of dental care! Any tartar/​calculus I may have had got professionally polished before it was removed, leaving an unpolished crown surface.
We spent 3 FULL hours at the practice (from 1:30 — 4:30) because, apparently, on top of everything else, they were «short-​staffed». In return, we got ONE, BACKWARDS polish-​then-​clean.

Long story short (kind of)

Cassandra is very unprofessional and Danisha too. I wanted to give them NO star and request to everyone please don’t go there for any treatment.
I went there in July and i have DHMO plan. When first time i went there then i asked them for my moral teeth root canal re-​treatment. Doctor suggested me for full examination as well. They also charged big amount from my insurance company for examination etc.
And after i again went there for moral teeth examination and then doctor referred Tanya Zaghi (endodontist) for re-​treatment of root canal. They gave me date after 1 month and when i went there in August then Doctor Zaghi referred me for Oral to extract the teeth.
When i asked for coast dental for Oral then they told me there another branch name is SmileCare in Hayward, CA. Cassandra also told me that i don’t need any approval from my insurance company because they already got approved and i have care credit. And she also told me that she don’t like to call my insurance company because its very long processor.
And here is mistake because my plan is DHMO and they have to asked my insurance company before send me to any other location for any type of treatment.
After that i asked for dates and they told me that they have sent the all the approval to Smilecare and i can go there.
Cassandra gave me wrong quotes for teeth extraction as per my insurance and they told me bone graft not covered under my insurance and i have to pay whole amount.
When i went Smile care, Hayward for treatment then at the time of treatment doctor told me about some biosophy oral tissue lab test. And they told me that its not covered under my insurance and i have to pay more than $ 300. But they guys was wrong. Its under my coverage but they charged me huge amount.
After one day when i called to my insurance company then my company told me about that treatment codes and they confirmed that its under coverage. My cost would be $ 600 as per copay instead of $ 959 they did charge.
And from last 2 months i am keep calling Coast dental and Smile Car Hayward. But no one telling me clearly.
Coast dental saying me i should contact to Smile Care because they done my treatment. But Smile Care told me that they won’t refund if my insurance company won’t accept claim.
Its not my fault then why i am paying more money? Coast dental should have called to my insurance company and will get approval first before referred me to go SmileCare Hayward as per my plan (DHMO).
So guys please don’t go to Coast dental and Smile care, Hayward.

They do a good job, but really annoyed of how disorganized they are. I’ve been waiting far too long to get an appointment only to find out they can’t take me in the day of or to reschedule me. They do not give much priority to patients they know in need of assistance the most.

Update: my cleaning appointment went very smoothly. They saw me early, and so I was done only 8 minutes into my original appointment time. The hygienist was a really sweet, friendly young woman who did a great job. She didn’t judge or interrogate me, but made a useful toothpaste recommendation. The price was a bit steep — about $ 160 — but that’s at least partly my insurance’s fault for not covering it when they should have. My teeth feel super-​smooth. And again, the staff were really friendly.

I happen to be on Unilocal today, and came across Coast Dental’s reviews, and I’m shocked to see a low rating, I had a great experience with this office, super friendly staff, from the dentist, hygienist, root canal specialist, to the office manager (Dameshia) sp?, whose been exceptional, not only did she accommodate my busy schedule but she was very professional and knowledgeable. I’ve been around the dental industry for years, growing up with my Dad whose been a dental technician for over 40 years so I know the good from the bad, and this office is definitely the good.
Highly recommend Coast — Keep up the good work

DO NOT GO HERE! My daughter used this place to get her braces and the service has been ok but now they are showing their true colors. She was kept waiting to see her dentist to get some work done on her braces and then they told her she couldn’t be seen because they didn’t have enough time to do the work. She skipped her college class to be there and wasted her time and gas for their in-​ability to do their medical job. What kind of medical practice does this? It’s to late to switch now but I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. DO NOT GO THEIR! I give them NO STARS! All they want is your money.

I am a cancer and HCV patient, and have a very limited income. Due to the medication I was given my teeth failed and I had all of my teeth extracted on March 7^th, 2015, just over a week ago. Prior to that the dentist took impressions of my bite, etc. This was in order for the lab to create the custom dentures to fit my mouth.
Last week I had a follow-​up visit. At that time I was told that the dentures in my mouth were ‘healing’ dentures and that I would have new impressions made after my gums healed for the permanent dentures.
Today I visited my dentist. I have not been able to wear the ‘healing’ dentures since I last saw her. They actually caused several lesions in my mouth. Not a good fit at all. She sanded them and sanded them in a vain attempt to get them to fit, but to no avail. She told me that she would see me next Monday and we could try again.
I walked out to the receptionists desk for my appointment card. The dentist was conferring with the office manager. I asked the dentist for a prescription for an oral rinse, which she gave me, then she left. The office manager then came to the desk and told me that if I wanted the dentures re-​lined that I would have to pay $ 126.00, to which I replied «I don’t have that kind of money.». She told me that was my problem and walked away.
Of course I walked away in a state of fury. When I came home I phoned my insurance who told me they had already paid for dentures. I explained what I was given and now have a complaint packet in the mail to me. I was told by the supervisor in my insurance office that there was no such thing as ‘healing’ dentures, and she has worked in that office for over twenty years. I also filed a complaint with the State Dental Board. I then phoned the dental office manager and gave her an opportunity to make it right. She told me, ‘Those are your dentures. Live with it.’, and hung up. They intentionally misled and lied to me.
While my children have offered to pay the $ 126.00, I have refused. The ‘healing’ dentures are certainly not worth it. They look like they were made in a third world country to be sold at a Dollar store.

!:!:! WARNING WARNING !:!:! A bill 26 months after the exam that our insurance covered. A bill that was not sent until the 26^th month. The bill is for the dentist explaining to us what he did to our at the time 5 year old daughter. Maybe they expected her to relay the information to us. So we end up with «A bill for talking to you.» Caution to all.

I had a great experience at the dentist office today. Had deep cleaning done and it was painless. Jacklyn, the hygienist was quick and I felt no discomfort. If you need a dentist i definitely recommend you go here

I would give them no stars if I could. We waited 6 weeks to see their specialist. We discussed insurance with them and under our policy we were happy that our insurance would cover an expensive root canal.
When we arrived they informed us that all of their dentists do accept our insurance except for the one we needed to see. If my daughter wanted her tooth fixed it would cost $ 1500. I was shocked by their extortion, bait and switch tactics. Since we had waited so many weeks to see them and my daughter was suffering we moved forward to get her tooth fixed. They had us over a barrel!
Their specialist quickly performed the root canal, in record time I thought, a small bright spot but short lived because when my daughter walked out, they then asked her to schedule a crown for that same tooth! I was floored to find out «fixing» her tooth for $ 1500 did not include fixing the entire tooth, that another $ 1800 would be required! What an unethical disception!!! Disgusted by them and their practices.
Someone needs to sell these people a car and not include the engine or wheels… oh, those items are extra.
Stay away.

Warning. Do not go here, unless you want an obscure bill two years later.
This place was bad enough during the 4 hour visit for a routine cleaning that takes 1 hour anywhere else.
But to get an obscure bill with no explanation (except «debit adjustment»), nor the date of service.
Coast Dental has a history of sketchy billing practices, and mine will be one more complaint to the FTC and BBB.

Ugh. Never going back here. Had to choose a new dentist when we changed insurance, gave this place a try. My 13 year old needed her teeth cleaned. This normally takes half an hour at other places — took over two and a half hours.
The hygienist left the suction tube in daughter’s mouth, and left the room for several minutes while the suction thingy got lodged under her tongue and created a very painful blister. Hygienist roughly yanked it out of daughter’s mouth, causing severe pain, and was not even apologetic.
They have an orthodontist who only comes in on Mondays (huh?) but no thanks — we’ll go to a REAL orthodontia office, where I can trust that they won’t hurt my daughter with their clumsiness.

Don’t ever come here!
I made two appt. for my husband and I. My husband told the dentist that he just wanted his teeth cleaned. They tried to sell him the deep cleaning, which cost a fortune. He said no, and they just let him go like that. 3 hours wasted.
I came in for fillings. I just wanted my teeth filled with silver fillings in my molars, which my insurance would cover most of the cost. They kept on pressuring me over and over again to get the white resin fillings. Two hours in, and the assistant kept on going back and forth. Finally I gave up, and said fine. Two more hours in, I got my teeth filled, and also a long long sale pitch of everything under the world.
My dentist, Dr. Goyal, was very rough on my teeth. After the numbing medicine wore off, I noticed my fillings were very rough and sharp. I had resin residue in my mouth and between my teeth, bruises and pain on my right cheek. Mind you, this is right before Thankgiving. Now, I have to make another appointment to have her file down my sharp teeth. But then again, I don’t know if it is worth it, or should I just go to another dentist.
