This is a really great place to bring your VW. I’ve always been leery of any shop I take my ’04 bug to even if it’s just to get an oil change. It’s like any time an auto shop sees a woman in need walk through their door they hear the «ch-​ching» go off in their head. Bruce is always pleasant and fair and explains everything, doesn’t try to sell other services or add on unnecessary expenses unless you ask him to check something out. Also, after he had a new starter put in my car last month and it unexpectedly failed this month, he was able to put another new starter once my car was towed there within a few hours. I was SO happy! Remember, this isn’t a dealership where they’ve got 10 lifts going. Sometimes they get really busy but I think they’ve got a good system prioritizing their work in order to get people off and running asap. Also a great friendly staff, I highly recommend.

I called in last Thursday to get a quote on a wheel bearing change for Audi A4. I was told between 180 and 200 for parts and labor depending on if it were to be the front or rear wheel (70 – 90 for parts and 110 for an hour of labor). So I made an appointment online and called today to verify my appoint time, only to hear that he doesn’t check online appoints and 2 whom ever had told me that quote at their establishment was wrong. He then expressed that it would take several hours to change the bearing trying to make it sound much more elaborate than it actually is. I know this job only takes about an hour if not an hour and a half to pull parts, press the bearings and reinstall parts. It makes you question what they are really honest about if they can’t even stay true to a quote and a description of a job.

We took our «new» 1978 VW bus in to Bruce so we could get it smogged for CA. There was a lot of work that was needed, oil leaks, no exhaust system, etc. it just passed smog and is now registered in the state of California! Thanks Bruce and team, our bus is running better than ever! Bruce was always patient with what needed to get done and explained everything to us, so helpful! He also came in exactly at what he quoted to us!

These guys are awesome! Everytime I have walked into the store, I have gotten exactly what I was looking for … whether it is some specific gasket or bolt or something more complicated. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. I have not had my vw worked on at the shop but they would probably be my first stop.

brought my car here for the first time because my check engine light came on. When I arrived I went over a few things with Bruce and he reassured me that my car was going to be in good hands.
Im used to most mechanics jerking me around and charging high prices, But Bruce only looked at what i asked him to fix, he did not try to find up sale any other maintenance for my car.
I got my car back in one day 6 hours later. Not only did it run perfectly but it also was a very cheap fix. Bruce definitely made me feel calm and comfortable about the situation the whole time.
If you need work done on your VW I would highly reccomend taking your car here!

Amazing place. Been going there to have my bug serviced for about two years now. These guys know their stuff. Friendly staff and knowledgeable. Ask a question, and get a solid answer. Won’t sell you stuff you really do not need unless you are fixed on getting it. Will bend over backwards to make things right. I am a happy camper and have no issues at all. Would recommend highly. (Ask for Bruce… He is a great guy to deal with along with the other staff.)

Been here a few times for parts, work and assistance in restoring and repairing my Manx style buggy. Staff is highly knowledgable, friendly, willing to help and prices are reasonable for parts.

Was looking to get a specific part for my mk2 and didnt want to hassle with shipping. Bugformance came to the rescue. They have a large inventory of VW parts and vintage items. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and offered great advice for what I wanted and how to get it done (installed). Next time Im working on my dub and need a part I would not hesitate to call these guys for help. Prices are fair too.

Bruce is the owner and has always been friendly, helpful, knowledgeable about anything under the sun, especially of that having to do with the motor or transmission in a car, the fender, the year they started or stopped something on your car and they are always professional and pleasant. The mechanics always take the time to explain to me what is going on with my car and make sure I understand how it all works
which is awesome because I like to know what’s going on with my car.
In all of the years my family and I have frequented bug formance we have never had one complaint or one bad experience ever.
They rock!

There are a lot of VW Bugs in California. To keep them running, you need parts and people who know what the heck those parts even are.
That’s what the Bugformance dudes are for.
If they don’t have it, they can order it. This is handy because if you’re like me, you have a 90% understanding of what you actually need so these guys can help fill in that gap to ensure you get the right parts.
They also have sets of service manuals for classic bugs in-​house. If you have an old bug and don’t have the service manuals, you might want to take care of that.
It’s fairly easy to find – within spitting distance of the Curtner VTA station.

I have a VW, this is the only place I take my car because they know what they are doing. They are fair & friendly, which is all I ask in a auto repair shop.

After hearing great things about this place I decided to take my 68 autostick beetle here, thinking that they were the best in the area. I traveled and hour and a half to take it here but was told it would be worth it. The problem was that my beetle wouldn’t idle. That was the reason I called and what I had told them I wanted fixed. I also needed them to check out the fuel gauge because it was not reading, but told them that it was NOT my main concern. When I got there they checked it out and told me that it should shift much more smoothly so I had them fix that as well. They assured me that they would call me before completing the work to make sure it was still in my budget, which they did not, I called them and he told me what he had already done to the car.
Now when I picked up my beetle they told me they had done a valve adjustment to fix the idle problem, they also told me they ‘thought’ they fixed the fuel gauge in which I responded with ‘but you fixed the idle problem right?!’ and he replied with ‘we hope so’.
I thought that was a funny response seeing that I took it there for that reason only.
So I get the bill and they charged me an hour for bleeding and adjusting the brakes. I had my new mechanic look over it and he said it was a fair charge, but the problem is that I did NOT ask them to touch my brakes. I never once mentioned them to him and they definitely did not ask me or tell me that they were going to do it. They also charged me a half hour for the fuel gauge which wasn’t fixed, the valve adjustment was an hour as well as the checking the autostick shifter which was done nicely.
And get this, the car still idles. They didn’t fix the one problem I had asked them to fix. Once I got home I called and told them and they told me to locate and take off a screw on the carb and clean it and see if it helps, it did not. Now the only positive thing I have to say about this place is that they did a quality job at fixing the shifter.
I now have my go to mechanic specializing in import vehicles much closer to where I live. He actually fixed the idle problem and adjusted my brakes and fixed a couple other things and only charged me an hour. Once he looked at the car he pointed out a few things that were wrong and said these guys should have seen them and told me about them. He also said the brakes were wayy too tight and said these guys should never have had them that tight.
Thus the reason for one star, they fixed one problem with my vehicle and charged me for things I did not ask for.

Extremely knowledgeable people with a passion for Vdubs
Had a CEL (check engine light) that was preventing my ’06 rabbit from getting smogged. Found out I had a pump leak. Replaced unit, quick turnaround time. My final bill was way less than what I was expecting to pay. Also took the liberty of taking my car to smog station to assure it passed.
Going here for all future car needs

These guys are top notch. The core guys in the shop have been there a long time, which shows stability. They all know their stuff and are very helpful. I’m currently in the process of building a mean street motor for my bug and went to them with brain overload from all the things I’ve read in magazines and on the internet. They helped me sort through all the information and are building me an engine based on my budget, power requirements and particular driving habits. I know it’s going to be good. They’ve done work for me before on my offroad car and it was top notch! I’d recommend this shop to any VW owner!

If you own a VW, this is the place to go.
They’ve replaced my clutch and a headldight, both times they were easy to deal with, fairly priced and delivered on time.
I won’t even consider going anywhere else when it comes to my VeeDub.

I’ve been bringing my bug here for years. I think the customer service is great, and they treat you really well, especially if you’ve been going to them for a long time. John and Bruce always give me decent advice when I ask them questions and are always fairly honest and upfront. They have lots of parts in-​stock for the do-​it-​yourselfer as well. Nice shop, fairly organized, and good service. :-)

I love this place. Great prices on parts and service, and a very experienced staff that will bend over backwards to make sure you’re happy. Compare their prices to the dealership and you’ll quickly realize what a great deal you’re getting by having these guys (who are VW trained ex-​dealership mechanics) work on your car.
Sure, you can find cheap Chinese aircooled VW parts cheaper online, but they won’t come with the priceless suggestions on how to install them right, make them last as long as possible, etc. that you can only get after several decades of working on these cars.

I don’t know what happened to them. It was really terrrible.
I had a plan to go short trip for the labor day weekend so I wanted to fix the AC before the relatively long drive.
I asked them to fix the AC and changing engine oil, however,
1. they couldn’t fix the AC. they don’t know the reason. they charged me the labor for several hours. which is ok but I am disappointed.
2. they put back the windshield wiper wrongly. they installed the right one to the left and vice versa… I don’t even know why they removed them once. this is unbelievable but is ok because it didn’t cost me any.
3. one of the fuses was removed so the moon roof didn’t close.
I needed to go to a car shop to buy the fuse because they didn’t have it in stock. Thanks my friend who found out that one fuse was missing. otherwise I would need to go to a dealer to diagnose why the moon roof didn’t close.
4. The car didn’t start when I picked the car up. I needed to replace a parts which costs over $ 600. They said it’s just the coincidence but I doubt it due to the other things they did for me. They charged me the labor, too.
plus, I needed to pay for rental car for the short trip.
One thing I hate this place the most is that they didn’t apologize though #2 and #3 are obviously their mistake.
it was really bad bad bad experience and I don’t even want to remember.
