History

Established in 1990.

The original practice owner, Dr. Earl Koberlein, practiced at this location for 15 years before retiring. His philosophy of family dental care has continued to this day. When Dr. Koberlein retired, he trusted the continued care of his patients with Dr. Tadesse Tesfamichael, better known as Dr. T.

As a believer in continuing education, Dr. T took many courses and kept up on all the latest materials and techniques in dentistry. Though Dr. T enjoyed caring for his patients in the beautiful Rose Garden area, his true calling has always been education. Knowing he only wanted the best for the patients, it was not easy for Dr. T to find a dentist who was a right fit.

Dr. Karan Mody grew up watching his father work in their community as a family dentist and was inspired to follow in his footsteps. Dr. Mody appreciates the opportunity given to him and is thrilled to continue on the legacies of Dr. Koberlein and Dr. Tesfamichael.

Dr. Karan Mody grew up in Southern California. After years of watching his father work in their community as a dentist, Dr. Mody was inspired to follow in his footsteps and pursued a doctorate degree in dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco.

After searching around the Bay Area for the ideal location to start his dental practice, Dr. Mody found everything he was looking for in the Rose Garden neighborhood of San Jose. He is thrilled to continue on the legacies of Dr. Koberlein and Dr. Tesfamichael at Bascom Family Dental.

Dr. Mody now resides is Santa Clara with his wife of one year, Tiffany. While they envision children in their future, they plan to enjoy married life for a while longer before growing their family. Outside of the office, Dr. Mody enjoys being outdoors, playing board games, and discovering new places to eat all over the Bay Area.

This is the best dental practice I’ve been as a patient. Dr. Mody is kind and caring and keeps on top of my dental issues. His office manager Kaye is almost worth signing up for –she is always so helpful and friendly and goes the extra mile. Because I can be scattered, she makes a special effort to remind me with an early morning text of my appointments. It’s very personal there. And I like supporting a neighborhood dentist who can grow old with me! My kids are very comfortable here, too. I have a history of tensing up at dental appointments, but not here. Dr. Mody is gentle and puts me at ease.

Hygienist — gentle touch, thorough and gives recommendations based on any changes from prior visit
Dentist — Dr. Mody is very personable and shows you digital images of your teeth and explains all procedures/​recommendations.

My wife and I had a wonderful first experience with Dr. Mody and his team. From scheduling the initial appointment to the cleaning to the follow up, the communication was timely and thorough with a personal touch. Both Jennifer and Tammy were great Dental Hygienists and Dr. Mody was extremely knowledgeable and personable. My wife and I felt very comfortable. Kaye has also been great to work with, from scheduling to working with our insurance company. The communication has exceeded our expectations. We are looking forward to a long relationship with the team at Bascom Family Dental.

Be it bad genetics, a sweet tooth or no fluoride in the well water growing up I have had many, many dental issues. I have quite a large number of crowns, bridges, and fillings. I have also had a couple of teeth removed.
Making matters worse I have a pronounced gag reflex. I gag just thinking about having dental tools near me.
During my past 40 years of experience with at least 10 dentists, I can unequivocally say that Karan Mody is at the top of the list.
I needed a lower back left crown replaced, an upper back left filling under a crown bridge combination, and then that crown/​bridge replaced.
Dr. Mody knew that the molding is the worst part for my gag reflex, and that this would require 5 molds (6 if you count the one I messed up).
He researched the shortest set time compound and had it ready.
He had a count down clock ready so I would know how quickly it would be over.
He talked during the set up time so I had something else on which to focus.
He worked at telling me what he was doing and trying to keep a minimum number of things in my mouth at any one time.
He never once showed any resentment when I needed to take some deep breaths. When you have as bad a gag reflex as I have, you have seen irritated dentists.
Karan Mody has my highest recommendation.

If a few years ago you’d have said I would be promoting a dentist, I’d have said «you bumped your head!» My girlfriend needed a dentist and hers put her off. I called Dr. Mody’s office and they made an appointment for that day Dr. Mody took the time to explain the procedure, and make her comfortable. When she was done she was really happy we saw him. His staff is very nice and professional. I will recommend him to anyone I know who needs a dentist. Thank You all very much.

Went in for check up and cleaning. Dr. Mody was very friendly and explained everything very well. He took his time and I didn’t feel like he was trying to sell me on anything which was nice! Front desk lady was so helpful and knowledgable in insurances — I needed some recommendations since I am looking to change once the year starts over. Highly recommended!

Dr. Mody is the best! He is extremely knowledgeable and kind and generous with his time. He continues to find time and explain his procedures and systems before we start and I find that incredibly helpful. He makes it easy to understand dental health and preventative measures that really are helpful. He knows what is needed to keep teeth heathy and overall, makes it an enjoyable experience. He is always professional and prompt and his staff makes it an environment that is comfortable and relaxing. I have recommended all my friends and family to Dr. Mody, because I know he will take all measures to make their experiences as pleasant as mine.

Everyone in the office is so friendly, made me feel very comfortable and spoke to me as if they were talking to a friend. Dr. Mody is very professional and personable and really makes an honest effort to get to know his patients and connect on a personal level. As a result, the appointments are NOT quick, but they are efficient and you’ll leave with a smile. I also really liked that both the Dr. and the hygienist explained everything to me as it was being done. Definitely recommend this practice!

I would definitely recommend Dr. Mody at Bascom Family Dental for all your dental needs. Not only is it located in a great area (right off the 880 freeway) but there is also parking available!
The facility is clean and well-​maintained. The staff is very professional and friendly. They really care a lot about you, the patient, and they will try to accommodate to your needs the best they can. Don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Mody about any of your dental concerns because he’ll explain it thoroughly in a non-​medical fashion. He only performs dental work as he sees necessary as opposed to pushing excessive unnecessary dental work.
Give them a call and make an appointment! After all, we all should visit the dentist every 6 months. We might as well make it pleasant!

Dr. Mody and Bascom Family Dental has cured my fear of dentists! Well, not quite — I still have a general anxiety when it comes to dentists… But after my last few positive experiences at the new Bascom Family Dental, Dr. Mody has actually inspired me to be more proactive about my teeth!
The staff is very friendly and appointment timings are not just guesstimates as I’ve experienced at other dental practices. I also like the fact that Dr. Mody and his staff take the time to get to know their patients on a personal level and most importantly — they are honest! It’s refreshing visiting a dentist that isn’t pushy about getting more work done than required just to maximize my insurance.
The facilities look a bit dated but still has a welcoming, family dentistry feel. Which isn’t surprising given how many families and young patients I have run into in my few visits there so far. Their tech also needs some help and they are working on modernizing that as well under the new management. I actually started getting text alerts for my last appointment!

Dr. Mody is so awesome! He is great with my 2 kids, who are 4 and 6 years old. He has such a likeable personality. I highly recommend this dental office!
