Arcadia, A Modern American Steakhouse by Michael Mina

Amazing filet mignon. No knife needed as it literally melted under my fork. Also got the wedge salad which was really nicely done. Fresh and creative. I’m not big on hotel restaurants, but this place was excellent. Good service at the bar too. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality.

Complimentary starter of French fries with 3 sauces– yummy. Had «melt in your mouth» short ribs –sooo delicious! With carrots and soft baked onion. They brought a pitcher of bernaise sauce to pour over top. Wedge BLT salad. So much food it is easy to share.

Came on my birthday did not love the food it was pretty expensive I can’t say that I will be coming back to celebrate or eat here anytime soon

Am already not liking this place, 40 minutes and still waiting for chicken sandwich:(

Michael Mina has a reputation for innovative takes on old favorites and outstanding food. Arcadia, which is located inside the Marriott hotel in downtown San Jose, does Mr. Mina’s reputation proud. Each time I’ve visited I’ve had a wonderful meal and a great experience, with elegant, upscale ambiance and exceptional service.
On my last visit, our server was particularly attentive. When he introduced himself, we told him the five of us were heading to a show, and needed to be out the door (with our bill paid) by 7pm. I began to worry a bit when it took quite a bit longer than it should have for us to get menus and for our drinks to arrive. I completely relaxed after it became obvious that we’d be done in time for our show without rushing the meal. Our server was on top of everything — totally attentive without being overbearing. He even gave us a fifth beignet because there were five of us :-)
On to the meal!
Our appetizer course was crispy pork belly and Oysters Rockerfeller, with hand-​cut beef tartare that was prepared right at our table. For the entrée course, we had a skirt steak, a Wagu hanger steak, and the braised short ribs. Everything was beautifully present and cooked exactly as requested; the meats were all well seasoned, juicy, and delicious! The sides included asparagus, whipped potatoes, and cream spinach. All were tasty, though the portions were a bit small.
As good as our meal was, I find it difficult to give Arcadia five stars because the prices seem high even for such an upscale venue. After all, at the end of the day Arcadia is simply a high-​end steak house, but it’s much more expensive than similar venues (like Morton’s and Ruth Chris). This time out, with just a single glass of wine each, the bill came out to about $ 110 per person (including tip). That’s a bit much for a steak dinner, unless you’re fortunate enough to be able to expense it to your company. Maybe I need a new job? ;-)

Food is still consistently great! Steaks are great… I always get the strip or ribeye… Medium rare extra char.
Ask for Charles to be your waiter if possible. He is amazing! Very attentive and friendly.
We also made the mistake of going to dine here when there was a protest going on down the street… The staff here pulled out all the stops to make it still an enjoyable dinner. Well done!
Love this place.

During a break at the conference I was attending, my wife and I had a great lunch at Arcadia. Even for lunch the staff here are very professional and the food is on par with what I would expect by the dinner chefs.
I had the crab cake sandwich ($ 23), which was chock full of crab and had a great light flavor. The fries that came with it were excellent as well. My wife had the market salad with seared tuna ($ 24) and she enjoyed her lunch as well. There was a nice amount of tuna as well.
I’d like to try Arcadia for dinner as lunch was excellent.

We came here the night before the Super Bowl and ended up sitting next to the Panther’s head coach! Food was SUPERB! Steak was perfect and the service was amazing. The seafood platter was huge and thoroughly enjoyed at our table. My boyfriend claims this is one of the best meals he’s ever had.

I am surprised this is a Michael Mina restaurant. The décor is nice and the service is very attentive.
We came in around 9:30pm on a weekday to order some light appetizers and drinks.
Ordered:
1) Cheese and Charcuterie Board: 2.5÷5: True disappointment. The board itself was OK, but for the price, I would expect some more cheese and meat.
2) Ahi Tuna Tartare: ³⁄₅ fairly good
3) Iceberg BLT Wedge salad: 2.5÷5 eh, pretty plain and not exciting

This is hands down one of the best restaurants in San Jose. If I’m honest, the pickings are pretty slim, so we tend to frequent places we find that are good. We were spoiled living in NYC for 11 years, and are always looking for foodie spots to fill our void. You definitely can find them in San Jose, and this place does NOT disappoint. It is a Michael Mina restaurant, but a bit of a hidden gem as it is usually easy to get a table. We personally love to sit at the bar. They have incredibly inventive cocktails and an amazing wine list. If you order food, you get their duck fat fries and dipping sauces for free which are to die for. In my opinion the scallops and tuna tartar (Michael Mina staple) are the best things on the menu. Oh, and did I mention truffled mac and cheese? I could just go on and on, the beet salad, the asparagus, it is all delicious! We have had great experience with the service as well. The bartenders are always friendly and accommodating. Oh, and did I mention they bring you free DUCK FAT FRIES? This is a staple for us when we have date nights and want to stay close to home. Don’t go thinking this is a bland hotel restaurant. This place is not to be missed!

The boyfriend surprised me for our 5 year anniversary and made reservations that were quite flexible as we arrived 40 minutes late. We called them to let them know in advance of course. They only validate if you park at Mariott apparently, I forget which one. It was a little awkward cause we went through the door where it wasn’t the main entrance I suppose and the host desk was facing the bar. No one was there and we made our way up, eventually a host came and greeted us to confirm that we had a reservation.
We got seated in the back by the clear glass windows. Loved that it was dim and candlelight by the tables. Our server took some time to get to us. Menu was simple and straight forward. Kinda wish they talked about popular dishes and what not. Pricy and small portions. For a Saturday night, it wasn’t that busy at all. Pretty average.
Their drink menu had so much to choose from though. They gave us complimentary fries with 3 different sauces, nothing special. I didn’t realize that we got the beef and ahi tuna tartare… Apparently my clueless boyfriend didn’t know what tartare was. I hate raw fish and the beef was even worst, he was trying to be a gentleman and order for us. Well that backfired: X He ended up eating majority of the beef and I sucked it up with the tuna. It could use a lot more flavor though. For entrees, I got the braised short ribs, it literally cut like butter when you barely touch the meat. So tender, but sadly some fatty pieces were found in the middle. The dish looked messy with the horseradish sauce, some sprinkles of seasoning and the carrots and onions. Meat was good, presentation needs some work! The boyfriend got the skirt steak that looked burnt even though it was medium, tasted flavorless. He said it was salty. We had a side of mac n cheese that had a metallic taste to it unfortunately, it also had broccoli in it, interesting…
The staff was nice enough to say congrats to our anniversary though and even brought out a card that was signed and written by them, so that made up for things sorta. Overall, overpriced food for small portions. I definitely could have made the exact same skirt steak though, LOL. I wish we would have gone with the Lobster Pot Pie instead. I was scared to order the more expensive dishes like the Porterhouse /​:

Located right inside the Marriott in Downtown San Jose, Arcadia is a solid steak house and a great place for a quiet dinner. I came by here a few weeks ago with my good friend for a celebration dinner. I called at 5 PM that same Friday to see if they had any openings and was surprised when they said they had 7:30 PM available. I decided to take the spot considering how lucky I was because these places always get packed on Friday nights.
Ambiance: The restaurant is very classy like I expect most upscale steakhouses to be. It is very spacious in terms of seating room which is nice because you can enjoy your meal and conversation without being talked over or bumping shoulders. There is a variety of seating to choose from depending on your party size: lounge seating towards the front with leather seats, long tables for larger parties, smaller tables for your two person parties. The wine racks around you, nice leather booths, hard wood tables and chairs make this place perfect for a nice dinner.
Food:I decided to order the New York Strip Steak with the Dungeness Crab Oscar (crab topping over the steak with a Bearnaise sauce) while my friend ordered the Filet Mignon with a side of whipped potatoes. We were also served complimentary 3 sets of Duck Fat Fries each specially seasoned and served with an accompanying sauce. Our steaks were cooked beautifully and tasted absolutely amazing. The Dungeness Crab topping on my steak made it just 100 times more delicious, rich and flavorful. The whipped potatoes were creamy, delicious and a perfect side to our steaks. The Duck Fat Fries are super addicting and can easily fill you up if you don’t watch yourself with them.
Service: The service here was top notch and I couldn’t have asked for more. Our server was very courteous and helpful with any questions about the menu. He made sure to check on us regularly without being too overbearing. He also made sure to keep us informed on the status of our requests (food, drinks, etc.). I was very impressed with the service here and it definitely played a part in making my meal more memorable.
Overall Experience: Arcadia is a solid steak house with a great menu and amazing staff. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice upscale dinner.

This review is long over due like 3yrs over due! Sorry Robert I’m now starting to Unilocal :) this is my all time favorite steak house! Best service from the only and only Robert of course! He made sure our course meal was perfected! And took care of all of us sometimes there’s 20+ of us girls and he was on top of it! My favorite is the filet mignon. No where else makes it this flavorful and cooked just perfect! The fat duck fries are so addictive! I loved the tuna and steak tartare always asked for 2 quail eggs. Loved how they mix it in front of us. The oyster rochafellers are delicious! Thank you Robert for hooking us up with great service!

If there is one thing I don’t need in my life, its complimentary Duck Fat Fries. Really? Complimentary? Of course I ate them. Since, you can eat as many fries that you didn’t order and the calories don’t count. Right?
The cocktail list is creative and so well balanced. I loved the Oorey Long Cocktail. It was a delicious coconutty concoction.
I started with an order of the Butternut Squash Soup. It was phenomenal! Along with my soup I had the Scallops and Scallions. So delicious. The flavor combination was so rich and new for me.
I also had the Pork Belly. It was so succulent and crispy. Keep it crispy should be everyones new motto.
I have to add that while my waiter was great and friendly. The service was slow for a Wednesday night. I was alone and did a lot of reading on my phone in between dishes.
I saw a young mom and dad with a one year old sit, wait. Then leave. I think they felt uncomfortable about bringing a baby into such a nice place. A tip to new parents, don’t be afraid to bring as many home snacks for babies when going to a restaurant. Especially a very nice place. There isn’t always food a baby will eat on the menu. And definitely don’t forget the toys. Ive take two children 5 and under into some fancy places. Keep them snacking and playing and no one will even notice. Heck, bring bad snacks. Anything to keep em quiet.
Back to the food. The Beef Tartare was oh your god amazing! With the Quail Egg on top, stop it with the goodness already!
The only thing that was bad were the Fried Brussels Sprouts. They were extremely salty and it hard to chew. I told the waiter. I usually don’t do that. I usually just keep it to myself, but these were so bad. Like they let someone back there who had no idea how to cook, cook these.
He was awesome and said that they had the same complaint earlier and that they would take them off my bill. Again, I never do that, but they were soooo bad.

Went for dinner with 3 guests on a Friday night. Enjoyed that it wasn’t crowded and that there was a lot of open space between tables. Relaxing atmosphere & fantastic world-​class service. The food was great — 5 Stars for Arcadia. Sharp attention to detail. Beautiful, fresh ingredients exquisitely prepared. Highly recommend our waiter Charles who was knowledgable, discrete, prompt and anticipated our wishes. I will ask for him again.
Below is a summary of all the dishes we tried.
1) The meal began with a pleasant surprise… Instead of boring bread, the Duck Fat Fries are introduced in a trio of imaginative preparations with a trio of distinctive sauces. The fries are perfectly crisp on the outside and incredibly light. The tzatziki yogurt sauce paired with the Ras el hanout spiced fries. Interestingly I later looked up and learned that —Ras el hanout is a spice mix from North Africa meaning «head of the shop» (similar to the English expression «top-​shelf») and implies a mixture of the best spices the seller has to offer. The traditional ketchup with a twist of dill-​pickle influence is paired with the fries prepared in fine herbs. And there is a spiced fries paired with a delicious classic BBQ sauce.
2) The asparagus salad with crispy serrano, ricotta, pistachio streusel crumbs and lemon zest is yummy. The combination of pistachio crumbs and ricotta give a rich textural counterpoint to the asparagus.
3) The caesar salad comes with chicories, pickled onions and anchovies. The romaine was a standout ingredient, both incredibly crisp and tender. The portion was quite generous.
4) The braised short ribs with glazed carrots and horseradish gremolata was superb. The tender meat was cooked to perfection with a memorable flavor. Comes with additional pinot noir reduction sauce to pour over. The carrots were just the right complement. Again a very large portion.
5) We ordered the black cod with romesco, squash and saffron emulsion. Although I did not taste that dish — it received high marks from my guests.
6) Adored the trio of 3 baby yams with pumpkin and sunflower seeds as a side.
7) For dessert had a classic molten lava cake and also tried a strawberry ice cream that was non-​dairy and made with soy. Our waiter, Charles told us that one of the chefs had been working all day yesterday «breaking up blocks of tofu.» The essence of the strawberry came through beautifully, but it felt super light and healthy. Very different. Also did not taste the crème brûlée but it received kudos from my guests and I like that it was paired with rhubarb.

Gloria our waitperson, was a delight. She was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Attending to everything with great haste.
Our meal was fine, not great, just fine.
My husband had the American breakfast, ham wasn’t that great, he ordered eggs over easy, and they did not come that way. I ordered eggs Benedict with the crabcakes which was mediocre.

I would love to update this review since the primary reason I wanted to eat here was for the lunch.
I was invited back here after the experience we had during the convention and this time the experience was phenomenal.
A big shout out to Adrian for being an excellent server — he was attentive, funny, and thoughtful throughout our lunch time. He managed to relate to us and mentioned the little things like my brother’s allergy to seafood and that we initially came here for the Silicon Valley Comic Con (you getting to meet Stan Lee was absolutely brilliant).
If anyone is coming here for lunch on a weekend, seek out Adian and say Hi!
This time around, here is the breakdown for our lunch.
Seasonal Soup — Mushroom Bisque: Delicious and a must-​have! It has Enoki mushroom, truffle marscapone, and crispy kale. Mixed together with the broth and it is to die for. Highly recommended for those who want a light appetizer to start everything off before the entrée.
Hummus Platter: This was pretty good but can definitely get filling pretty fast because the naan mixed with the hummus is oh-​so-​good. You can ask the server for more naan, but I wouldn’t suggest it if you want room for your entrée and dessert.
8oz Angus Prime Filet: Medium rare. The steaks come with duck fat fries, side salad, and a special house sauce. I normally do not use sauce on my steak because If they are already cooked well — why bother ruining the taste with a sauce? However, in this case I decided to try it out because it is affiliated with Michael Mina and it is supposed to be a special sauce, right? So I went for it, and I have to say — you should try it out. The sauce was perfectly blended with the filet. And the steak by itself is well cut and cooked to perfection. The fries themselves are fried to perfection.
12oz Angus Prime NY Strip: Medium rare. My brother ordered this and I got to taste it. It is delicious, and he enjoyed it well enough. However, I still stand by the Filet.
Iron Horse Champagne: if you want to feel fancy while dining here, check out the champagne. I don’t normally drink alcohol, even on special occasions, but this one was so good I practically finished up the flute.
Chocolate Molten Cake: This cake is heaven! The lava cake comes with salty caramel ice cream and hazelnut praline. Combine the lava cake, the ice cream, and the whipped cream and it feels like everything is perfect.
Carrot Cake: The carrot cake arrives with candied walnuts and crème fraîche sorbet. It was pretty good but between the desserts, I adore the molten cake more.
Overall, the lunch was perfect and extremely delicious. I would definitely come by here again for the next convention or if I am ever back in the area.
As a tip, for those who do not know, you can valet with Marriott and get your ticket validated by Arcadia. Just drive in to valet, say you are here for lunch with Arcadia and you can get parking for $ 6 for 3 hours. Then it is $ 14 after that.

Horrible horrible horrible. One of the worst dinners I’ve ever had! I came here for dinner with my co-​worker after a training in DTSJ. Given there isn’t much to choose from walking distance from our hotel, we chose Aracdia.
What we ordered:
— Ahi Tuna Tartare: This had an overwhelming amount of sesame oil and came with regular sliced bread which was not a good pairing at all.
— Seared Foie Gras: Worst foie gras I have ever had. Very poor quality, poorly cooked, poorly seasoned/​paired, worst presentation I have ever seen. We barely touched it.
— Beet salad: Very small portion, very bland.
— Seared Scallops: Worst scallop entrée I have ever had. Again, poor quality, poorly cooked, and poorly seasoned/​paired. I also tasted eggshell like pieces in my scallop, I have no idea why… after tasting the scallop, we could not eat anymore of the entrée.
— Black truffle mac and cheese: Very disappointing! After each bite, the mac and cheese left a metal like taste in our mouths. Similar to the taste of a penny.
— Duck fat fries: These were complementary and were sadly the only decent item we had here.
Overall, this place is beyond disappointing. I have no idea how they have managed to stay in business! Not only was the food awful, but it was overpriced and service was extremely slow. Michael Mina, you have made a really bad impression.

—Amuse bouche: duck fat fries 3 ways with 3 sauces. Good & perfect since we were going to order the full dish of this to try anyways
—oysters rockefeller: nothing special
—chilean sea bass: nice light dish, loved the crispy layer encrusting the melt in your mouth fish
—wagyu: a flavorful & tender piece of beef from the grill menu
—truffle mac & cheese side: good but nothing ground breaking
—smashed potatoes side: GET IT, perfect crust on the outside, nice & salty! way better than eating mashed potatoes (although i havent tried arcadia’s mash)
—complimentary chocolate bon bons for my birthday: a pleasant and delicious surprise with a candle! loved the one with the frozen inside. never had a bon bon like it!
NOTE: there’s also a bar area if you’re looking for a casual night, i wonder if you can order the smashed potatoes there

My husband and I took my parents and his mom here for dinner on a Saturday night with reservation. The restaurant was still pretty empty when we arrived but full when we left.
Not sure because it was empty when I came that I felt it was very spacious or the class wall showing street view gave me that feeling. The light was dimmed creating a very romantic vibe.
Food– we kind of shared our food just so everyone can have a taste of everything.
Arcadia sald — it carries the restaurant’s name so better be good. I’m not a fan of blue cheese so I don’t appreciate this dish as much as my dad who loves blue cheese. I thought this salad was okay.
Grilled salmon — we all enjoyed this grilled to perfect salmon dish. Salmon was still juicy and not dry at all. The fish was definitely fresh.
Bay scallop — not the best i’ve had but pretty good.
Ribeye steak — my husband didn’t think it was that great but I thought it was good or one of the good ones that i’ve tried. But I have to agree that I’ve had better ribeye elsewhere.
Lobster pot pie — Michael Mina’s signature dish. I think it is definitely the high light of our dinner. I was impressed with everything about this dish. The skin of the pie was so perfect and the inside was so good. It is very rich thou but so delicious.
Lamb Rack — a little too rare to my liking but juicy and tasty.
Excellent service. Great food. Nice restaurant. I would highly recommend.

Came here for a work lunch. I got the cobb salad. For the price, it should have had more chicken. I mean, Costco salads are cheaper and have way more chicken, just saying. I also felt like they were being a little stingy with the avocado. ¼ of an avocado for a $ 16 salad? Come on.
The wait for the food was a little longer than I would’ve liked, but not unexpected considering we were a large group. But my water glass was always filled before it emptied, so thumbs up for that.
For a restaurant with such nice décor, it should have good food to match. At least I didn’t get food poisoning though. 2.75

It’s the restaurant inside the Marriott. A pretty big one, I must say.

Was there on a Wednesday afternoon and it was pretty empty. They have a valet parking and you can even get it validated.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW THEY ALSO HAVE BREAKFAST??? And it’s a pretty dam good breakfast. Like was I the last to know? So we all know how great this place is for dinner, but it’s also a great go to for breakfast! Especially because they open early at 6:30 am, it worked out when we wanted a really good breakfast with a cool atmosphere at 7:30 am.
We were seated right away by the wonderful hostess and ordered the crab cake Benedict and southern fried chicken and gravy. So let me tell you that the photos do not do anyyyyyy justice to the amazingness that happened with every bite. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I would definitely definitely definitely recommend them both, but ESPECIALLY the fried chicken w/​gravy!
So we’re enjoying our meal then our waiter and the manager come up to our table to check on us and they start to apologize for the long wait. It honestly caught us off guard because I kept watch on time and we literally did not wait that long (17ish mins) but maybe it was long to their standards? So before we know he just sets the check on the table and turns out they gave us 50% off our entire meal to make up for the «troubles.» On a serious note, even if they were to actually take long, I don’t think I would mind because of their friendly service and great food. But I definitely appreciated their efforts anyway!
