Dr. Andrew B. Fong has been providing quality dental care to families in the San Jose area for over 15 years. Dr. Fong is the third dentist in the practice since it was established in 1965. The practice originally opened in Campbell, CA before moving to its current location in west San Jose, CA. Prior to practicing dentistry in San Jose, CA; Dr. Fong served as a United States Air Force dental officer at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, Osan Air Base in the Republic of Korea, and McClellan Air Force Base in California.

Dr. Andrew B. Fong has been providing quality dental care to families in the San Jose area for over 15 years.

A native of Campbell, Dr. Fong graduated from Prospect High School and Santa Clara University. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University of Chicago, School of Dentistry in 1990. Dr. Fong then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency with the United States Air Force. Dr. Fong served as a dental officer at Sheppard AFB — Texas, Osan Air Base — Republic of Korea and McClellan AFB, California.

Dr. Fong is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Santa Clara County Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry. He keeps abreast of current techniques and materials through continuing education courses and professional publications.

In his free time Dr. Fong enjoys geocaching with his family. Dr. Fong also enjoys being a volunteer coach for his son’s soccer and baseball teams.

Dr. Fong saw me on short notice for tooth pain I had on a root canal I never had finished. This was his first time seeing me, he did an emergency tooth extraction before the tooth would cause me any other pain. I didn’t follow the instructions very well after the tooth removal and ended up getting some food caught in the empty socket. Dr fong came in on his holiday time (christmas/​new years) to make sure I had a tool to clean out the socket. Dr. Fong went above and beyond to make sure I was in no pain. I will be returning to him for all future dental visits. His staff is very friendly and professional as well.

My family has been going to Dr. Fong for a long time. After high school I went almost ten years avoiding the dentist and my mouth was in shambles. I had a phobia of the dentist. I hated the pain and I hated being shamed for whatever was going on in my mouth. Once enough was enough, I started work with Dr. Fong and his staff and they have squashed that phobia for good. I had a ton of work to get done and they were always encouraging, never shaming. I take my kids there and they love it! I repeat, my kids are not afraid of the dentist! They have taken great care of my family and it’s overdue that I share the appreciation back to them!

Dr. Fong has been my dentist since I was little, he has been a great doctor and friend. I have to say thank you to Dr. Fong and his staff for all their hard, extensive work they preformed on my teeth over the years. I really have to reach out and thank Dr. Fong this past year. November 1, 2015 I broke my top four front teeth. Three of the teeth were badly cracked and One tooth broke in half. Dr. Fong and his staff preformed a series of procedures to correct my teeth. I was fitted with two crowns and two veneers. I was worried about how my teeth would look after all this work, but after seeing the final results I was relieved to see that my teeth looked better then my orginials. The best part was having a perfect smile just in time for Christmas. I really have to hand it to Dr. Fong and his staff for all their hard work. Thank you so much Dr. Fong

This was the first dentist I’ve seen since moving back to the bay area. I am very suspicious of his dental procedure recommendations.
In February, I went in for a cleaning using a groupon special for $ 30. He used an oral camera to show me what was wrong with my teeth. i liked that process but there were no xrays.
He showed me black spots on my teeth that he said were cavities. He said I should get 5 of my cavities filled including some of my old resin cavities to be redone. my old resin cavities were only about 3 years old. he also recommended a wisdom tooth extraction (i could feel the hole in my wisdom tooth with my tongue).
i take good care of my teeth and was slightly suspicious that i had 5 cavities. So i decided to get a second opinion at Winchester Dental Place. The rest of my family goes there. I paid for the xray, cleaning. The diagnosis was that i needed my wisdom tooth extracted (no surprise) and that I had no cavities. I asked about the dark spots on my teeth. Dr. Vu explained those were just stains that could be scratched out and were not cavities. Cavities are soft and when he pressed the dental pick on the tooth, it was hard. He removed those stains using a dental pick in less than 5 seconds.
I asked Dr. Vu about my previous diagnosis of 5 cavities from a different dentist (Dr. Fong). Dr. Vu said that different dentists have different opinions and that some are more aggressive in their treatment but that I definitely did not have any cavities.
I am not sure if Dr. Fong was trying to scam me or if it was overly aggressive preventative treatment. Either way, I sought a 2nd opinion that included a panoramic xray that PROVED I had no cavities.
Overall, I am very happy I did NOT go through with any recommended dental procedures advised by Dr. Fong.
If anyone is interested I might link online a copy of my diagnosis from Dr. Fong and my 2nd diagnosis from a different dentist and maybe a copy of my digital xrays too.

I went in with a voucher from LivingSocial for a Dental Exam, Cleaning, and X-​Ray.
Dr. Fong cleaning session was a bit different from the usual dentist visits I had had in the past with other dentists. He did not performed the X-​rays but instead, took pictures of my teeth and then showed them to me.
His assistant started by polishing (?) my teeth. This usually happens after my teeth have been cleaned. Then, Dr Fong started the cleaning with a horrible tool that made a piercing awful sound and splashed water all over my face (they did not give me a tissue for this). Then, he did a few scratching with a hook and that was it!
He asked me if my teeth were clean but did not offer me a mirror to check them out. I got up from the chair and check my teeth on the mirror wall.
Also, I had trouble doing a jaw movement that he was directing me to do, and he got impatient and condescending because I could not do it the way he wanted.
I went to my car and was about to leave the premises when I noticed two of my front teeth were still stained. I went back in and had to convince the receptionist to tell Dr Fong to see me, again. Good thing there was no other patients.
When Dr Fong came out, I tried to show him the still stained teeth, unsuccessfully because I had no mirror, while he looked at me as if I were a joke and said he did not know what I was referring to. But, he took me in and scratched out those stains out with a hook.
Overall, I would NOT recommend Dr Fong if you are looking for a dentist who is professional, approachable, patient, friendly, and thorough with his job.
At the end, I left with mixed feelings, uncomfortable, and with no refreshing mouth feeling!

I just started with Dr. Fong, because I just moved to the area to go to Stanford. If you can find a great mechanic and a great dentist when you move to an area then you will be OK. So, at least now I have a great dentist. Dr. Fong has a great way of giving the novocaine shots – a method that he developed himself. You don’t feel a thing. The filling I had was painless, too. In fact I fell asleep a little during the process:) I have never done that in a dentist office before. If he can make a filling that painless for me, then he is probably great with children, too. Another thing: his prices are reasonable and are competitive with area dentists, but not super expensive like some dentists in the area. Also, his exams are very thorough. I look forward to continuing with Dr. Fong:)

Oh my! This dental office has been the worst experience I have ever had. First, I called to make sure they took my insurance. They said yes. However, they didn’t tell me they weren’t a provider which in the future would cost me hundreds extra in deductibles and extra fees each year we see them.
Once there the receptionist Malorie, tells me there is an extra charge for floride. I tell her no my insurance covers and she said just my kids. No big deal I will pay the $ 7. And, when I leave she makes me pay $ 21??? What the! She says «I told you we charge for floride».
«I say not my kids, you said the insurance covers them».
She says «I never said they cover your kids». Whatever I pay the $ 21.
After I get my teeth cleadned. They hurt so bad. In all my life I have never left a dental office with my teeth hurting and a headache. Dr. Fong uses an ultra sonic to scrape every thing, including my poor enamel, of my teeth. Then tells me I need to replace a number of fillings, get a few crowns and put new fillings in other teeth. I have gone to the dentist religiously and at the last appointment, 6 months prior, everything was perfect.
My little 5year old needs a filing in what my previous dentist called a dimple in his tooth. Dr fong tries to say he is proactive. Another would for do whatever I feel like cause you don’t know. I worked in dental before and was very annoyed at how he tried to justify what needed to be done.
Finally, leaving they didn’t give me the option to say no we don’t want this filling or that. They just wanted those things done, period.
Once home I called my insurance company and have never liked an insurance company more than I did at that moment. She told me they did cover everyone’s floride! Talked to me about fillings they cover on kids, amalgam vs composite. And made my day.
Now, trying to get records emailed (a free way to send things) I am told they charge $ 50 to do that. She even tries to say I told you that before. Whatever, use that excuse on someone else. I have heard that way to many times!
I would never reccommend this dental office and have no idea how he has great reviews!

This is my review after my second visit with Dr. Fong, and I have to say he is just a great dentist! The minute you walk in the patient service is incredible! The welcoming aspect of the office is wonderful. Mallory and Tran are great, you can tell that they care about the office and the patient just as much as Dr.Fong.
I have had a cleaning and some other dental work so far and it has been an amazing experience every time.
Dr. Fong is:
1. Very very gentle (Talks you through everything and how it will feel, I am not exaggerating – he is very gentle through out the whole procedure)
2. Friendly (with a good sense of humor and professionalism)
3. Outstanding/​specialized dental skills
4. Great time management skills (Appointments are exactly on time)
5. No insurance hassle (Benefit verification was perfect, making sure that I knew exactly what I would be paying before the visit)
6. Location is phenomenal easy in and out (Parking is always available-​than again I always take the 7:30am appointments so its not packed at all)
7. Early appointment times (I start work at 10am and I am able to go in for my appt and get out by 8:30am have breakfast and go to work)
I moved from San Luis Obispo 9 years ago and have not had much luck in finding a dentist that I really felt comfortable with until now. I am definitely going to refer my friends and family to Dr. Fong and will be seeing him for many years to come.

My last teeth cleaning was in 2009. So when I saw an online deal for a dentist I knew I had to buy it. The deal was for a number of different dentists, but luckily I picked Dr. Fong.
The entire experience was great. He first took pictures of all of my teeth and explained what he was going to do and answered all of my questions. Dr. Fong has great «chair-​side manner.» The cleaning was flawless. He never caught my gum or used too much pressure. After the cleaning, he recommended that I fill two small cavities. He again took pictures so I could actually see the holes in my teeth. He also explained how it was not totally necessary and let me choose whether to do it or not. No pressure, just the right information so that I could make a decision for myself.
I will recommend Dr. Fong to anybody looking for a dentist.

I have been going to Dr. Fong for over 8 years. My wife and mother-​in-​law have been going forever. Dr. Fong has been the absolute best dentist I have been to for general check-​ups and dental work.
Dr. Fong and his team are courteous and spend the time with you to insure you are getting the proper care. I can truly say that I have Dr. Fong to thank for the great health of my teeth. Simply a fantastic dentist… my highest recommendation!

I had a slightly off-​center midline before I had it fixed at Dr. Fong’s. Now my teeth look perfect (but not «kitchen appliance» perfect, as Dr. Fong likes to put it) and I can’t stop smiling :) I’ve enjoyed every visit here. Just started going to Dr. Fong this year after my manager kept getting on my case to visit a dentist. I hadn’t been to a dentist for over 10 years (probably closer to 15), not necessarily because I was afraid, but more because I was just plain lazy. Now that I have started going here, I will definitely be going to the dentist regularly! He is great at doing dental work, and he makes things so easy that I actually fell asleep in the chair while he was taking care of some fillings! He is very knowledgeable & skillful with his procedures, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist! The rest of the staff is very friendly, every time I’ve gone in I’ve been greeted by name. They helped me with my insurance plan to figure out how best to take care of my fillings, so I’ve gotten the worst ones out of the way and will be waiting until my insurance starts up again to take care of the rest.
I have been very happy with Dr. Fong, he is great at making you feel like a valuable customer… no, scratch that, he is great at making you feel like a valuable friend, because he truly takes care of you!

I have been seeing Dr. Fong for over a year now and I absolutely love him! He is the best dentist I have ever had. Matter of fact I fell asleep this past week twice while he was giving me a filling, that’s how relaxed I was! He is a great dentist. If you are afraid of the dentist or if you have been avoiding them for awhile trust me, Dr. Fong will change your mind about dentists!

When I first came to see Dr. Fong I was very self-​conscious of my smile. As a child I had a large gape between my two front teeth. I had braces for several years which reduced the gap, however by the time I was in college and beyond I was tired of having to wear a retainer to keep my two front teeth together. About three years ago I went to a Dentist in Texas (where I lived at the time) and explained my issue with my front teeth. The dentist put veneers on my two front teeth (a very painful and scary process as they grind down your teeth in order to place the veneers over the teeth). After many, many visits I finally had my two new front teeth — to me they seemed too bright and too large compared to the rest of my teeth, but I decided to deal with it. Three years passed and by this time I had heard of Lumineers — as fate would have it I cracked one of my front veneers and decided to see a Dentist and have a consultation about having Lumineers placed on my teeth.
I could not have been more thrilled with Dr. Fong and his staff, they are extremely friendly, they LISTEN to your concerns and desires and make every visit a pleasant experience. I explained my aesthetic problems with my two front teeth to Dr. Fong and we discussed what would be best for me to get an even, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing smile. After a few visits my new smile was in place, now I’ll admit after my last experience having veneers placed on I didn’t expect much and didn’t get my hopes up. However, when I saw the finished results I was shocked and thrilled with how great my smile looked! I had been so self-​conscious of my smile with the two giant veneers on my front teeth, but Dr. Fong worked with me to make my smile look natural and proportionate! Two days after Dr. Fong put my Lumineers on, I was at a concert with my sister and we took many, many pictures. Looking at the pictures the next day, I was in love with how great my teeth and smile looked, I just couldn’t believe how easy the whole process was! I only wish I would have known about Dr. Fong and Lumineers three years ago before I had those hideous veneers placed on my two front teeth! Thank you Dr. Fong and your staff for such a wonderful experience!

After a few visits with Dr. Fong, my whole outlook on dentistry and dentists was radically improved.
For 30 years, I feared dental work. I feared Novocain shots, I feared the drilling, I feared the cleaning, I even feared the x-​rays… and I now understand it was all because I had a horrible dentist. Everything he did was painful.
Dr. Fong, on the other hand, is very mindful of pain. how to avoid it when possible, and how to manage the unavoidable. He has special techniques of tricking your mind when administering shots. He believes in early detection and treatment. And he has the latest technologies which minimize the need for Novocain in the first place. In fact, my most recent filling required NO Novocain whatsoever, and it was painless!
Dr. Fong is knowledgeable, gentle, and friendly.
I can honestly say I am relaxed when I’m in Dr. Fong’s dentist chair.
