Aby’s Custom Upholstery

When I moved out on my own, my dad let me take my grandmother’s orange velour upholstered chair with me. She had upholstered it herself decades ago. I loved the chair so much, but the cushion was breaking down, and the fabric needed an update.
I did my homework and spoke with several upholstery people in the San Jose area. The stores offered me ranges of estimated quotes, and they were all expensive. What it came down to for me was the fabric. I knew I wanted an updated modern look but something that could also be considered a classic piece. I also wanted to stay in the orange family as a memory of my grandmother.
Aby by far had the best selection of fabrics… books and swatches galore! I marked fabrics that I liked, and she pulled information on price, durability, details about the material, etc. You won’t have a better experience working with anyone else buy Aby and her team. I fell in love with a beautiful love bird pattern, and decided I didn’t need to look any further.
The fabric took about 2.5 or 3 weeks to arrive from the time my initial order was placed. Aby let me know when she received it, and her driver came to pick up my chair the next day. In less than a week, my chair was finished, and I love it! The new cushion is amazingly comfortable, and the pattern of the chair is more than I could have hoped for. Her upholstery team truly does amazing, professional, excellent work. I am so happy I found Aby! You won’t have a better experience anywhere else.

Aby is SUPER friendly and helpful, and her staff were really helpful with loading and unloading my furniture. I brought 6 dining chairs and one cushy chair to get new upholstery, and Aby was very patient in helping me pick the new fabric, etc. And although she said it would take 2 weeks, it barely took 1 before she called me to pick them up. And the results are GREAT!

Aby called back in response to my review and left a message asking if she could help make things better or at least apologise. She did not want to end the year on a bitter note.
I hugely appreciated her calling. We chatted and it definitely helped both of us feel better. There was nothing else I could do with the rocking chair but after the call I decided to give us both another opportunity with each other with a future project.

Our office is so happy to have found Aby’s. Her shop reupholstered a dental chair for us, and it came out good as new (and only took a couple days). Due to some unfortunate circumstances, we needed to repair a sectional sofa. We did some research and found Aby’s. They had great reviews and were conveniently located in SJ.
They had a great selection of fabric but we could not find the exact match we needed. Luckily we found the exact fabric from pottery barn but it would take some time for it to be delivered. Aby offered to hold the sofa until the fabric was delivered and then start working on it after it was received. This made it easy for us because we didn’t have to ship the sofa back and forth.
The work the provided was really good. During the walkthrough, there were some minor adjustments that had to be made and they corrected it on the spot.

I live in San Fran, But we come down to San Jose on weekends to visit my Mother in law in her assisted living. We stay in her home on these weeeknds (she doesn’t want to sell until she moves on)
So here is this house — stuck in the 60’s and 70’s décor, It could be a fantastic mid-​century modern with a renovation, but I am digressing.
His mom said that I could have this one chair in her bedroom I have always loved. BUT it was old stained and faded. I was looking on Unilocal for an upholsterer. Aby’s came right up with good reviews. About a year ago I sent aby a photo of the chair and asked for a quote — she got right back to me.
Since we are only in SJ on weekends, and Aby’s closes at 1pm on Saturdays — it was a struggle to get here. BUT we finally did, and we brought the chair. ONE YEAR After the email quote and she pulled my email right up without a problem — I was impressed!
We looked at her extensive fabric selection — but I wanted to pay homage to the chair and re-​do it in the same pink velvet. Aby didn’t have exactly what I was looking for — but about a week later she sent me several samples that her fabric suppliers got to her — Super nice. One was gorgeous but $ 100 yard. So I found my own fabric at Britex. We got that to her about 5 Saturdays after the original drop off. And less than 4 days later she called to let me know it was done. IT IS SOOO PRETTY.
Aby was very communicative during the process, letting me know she sent samples, that she was going to be out on vacation for one of the weeks it was there.
Now this was not an inexpensive project. But Aby did such a nice job and was so sweet I would not hesitate to have her work on another project for us.
Her «store» is not on the road and a little rough — but don’t let that stop you from using her business.

I found this place online and sent a photo to get the estimate. They change the cover of our table in a medical office. They were fast and efficient. I really like the job they have done specially being right on time. I recommend this place to whoever wants to have a quality and efficiency

Aby and her team are AMAZING. From Aby’s patience, accommodating, and kind personality, she went above and beyond to help me out. The team that worked on my headboard made it FLAWLESS. And the delivery team was so nice both times!
I want to have to have stuff reupholstered just so I can return to Aby.

The work was done in about a week, as promised, and Aby communicated with me throughout the process to make recommendations on the direction of the herringbone fabric and the size of the piping. They are very good to work with. I had a tough upholstery challenge in my car and they spent a lot of time and effort to match the texture color of the leather. They are interested in a good outcome above all else.

Great customer service, high quality and quick work! It’s not cheap but why would you want your nice furniture in the hands of someone who didn’t know what they were doing.

They did a great job restoring our couch cushions.
It is a modest place, but we spent about $ 500 for 4 large cushions. We can now use our couch for another 10 years.

Excellent work, amazing selection of fabrics, knowledgable staff – Aby is expert and friendly and well-​spoken. And you get all of that for a very fair price.
To get all of that though, you have to first find the store which is hard to see from the street, and then not be intimidated buy a very cluttered and grungy-​looking shop. Don’t be intimidated – the quality is worth it. I have tried three other shops in San Jose (and they were all grungy – it’s the nature of the work I think). But I won’t go anywhere else now – Aby is the best

I was in need of installing a very large zipper onto the side of a storage tent. I called around and Aby’s was willing to attack this job.
Because I neglected to mention a detail of the job, there was a minor hiccup, but Aby’s stood behind me and remedied the situation immediately.

The building looks like a run down shed and despite the sign out front, it’s not clear that there’s any door or whether the business is open. I nearly drove off. Drive halfway down the parking lot and enter from the side where you see people working from open bays. You won’t be sorry — ignore the building, the people here do first rate work, and much quicker than other places, without the attitude!

Couldn’t be more pleased! Aby helped me restore my vinyl chair into something more valuable. Before I came, my cat scratched this chair senseless and made it look like an eyesore.
Aby’s Custom Upholstery not only took a tired-​looking chair and restored it, they also gave it great quality leather and new seating foam. A+, I definitely recommend this place.
